Month: April 2020

For the foreseeable future, tours and one-off concerts will reside on the backburner as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and its worldwide impact. With these tours and concerts nixed, many artists are reluctant to share their completed projects as touring serves as a very important piece of an album’s rollout.
Last month, Cardi B revealed that the lead single from her upcoming album had been delayed as a result of the virus. Kehlani also said her sophomore album would be pushed back from its original April 24 release date due to the virus during her recent Joe Budden Podcast appearance. While artists like The Weeknd, PartyNextDoor, and DVSN have shared quality projects after the widespread cancellation of tours, not everyone is so willing to do so.

Voicing his frustrations on Twitter, JID explained the struggles of attempting to release a project in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. JID is preparing the follow up to his 2018 album, DiCaprio 2, but has seemed to reach a roadblock in its rollout as he tweeted, “this sh*t no fun no mo.”
A fan responded to JID asking if new music was on the way and JID, with a bit of frustration, responded “man idk what to drop, this sh*t all weird now man.”

After a fan posed the idea of JID sharing “slutty rap tunes,” he revealed that the music itself was not the issue at hand, but rather the inability to tour and see his fans enjoy the new music. “Ok we do that, then what, no tour? Not getting to see u guys and celebrate, the content and intention of music is way more important now, I’m tryna line it up perfect cuz it’s hard to create is uncertain times,” he said.
With many artists certain that their best project to date is awaiting release, the question remains is it worth sharing with the world without being able to see the world enjoy it?

Josh Brolin apologized after sharing an Instagram photo that featured his family paying a social visit to his parents’ house. While everyone is clearly seen wearing masks, including Brolin’s father and step-mother Barbra Streisand, the Avengers actor was chastised by his fans for violating social distancing guidelines amid the COVID-19 pandemic. After deleting the photo, Brolin posted a video apology where he fully agrees that bringing his wife and young daughter over to his parents’ house was irresponsible, and he thanks his Instagram followers for their passionate responses.
According to Comic Book, Brolin was taking his daughter over to briefly see his parents’ pool (the Deadpool 2 actor doesn’t have one at his house) and not be near them. But he takes full responsibility in admitting that the plan fell apart leading to a longer visit, which is a struggle that parents who are trapped indoors with young kids and grandparents nearby can certainly relate to.
“You know, it’s hard to be honest sometimes,” he continued. “It’s hard to be honest and say, ‘maybe I screwed up’ and I knew that that was in the air, not because of the responses, but because the responses brought me back to my own truth and it’s humbling as hell, man.”
Brolin went on to say that he felt responsible to his “fellow man” and apologized, noting that it was more important to get through this even if that means going “overboard” with safety measures, a message that helped to explain just how serious he really is taking the pandemic before thanking followers for helping to remind him.
You can watch Brolin’s full video apology:
While Brolin deleted the photo from the visit, his step-mother Streisand hasn’t done the same. Although, her photo simply shows Brolin’s wife standing safely outdoors while holding an adorable message for the two grandparents, which is way less controversial than a full family gathering around the pool.

As the One World: Together At Home festival created by Lady Gaga with the help of the World Health Organization and Global Citizen took place on almost all platforms Saturday, Babyface and Teddy Riley took to Instagram Live for a battle of their respective catalogs. As part of the Versuz series hosted by Timbaland and Swizz Beatz, battles from some of the music industry’s best have taken place over the past month, with the most recent one happening between RZA and DJ Premier.
Going up to bat against each other Saturday night, Babyface and Riley’s battle was originally supposed to take place on April 12 but was delayed as a result of Babyface’s coronavirus diagnosis. With both parties showing up to the battle as planned Saturday, viewers quickly realized that the only thing that went as planned was the battle itself happening.

With more than 400,000 viewers watching, Babyface and Teddy’s battle was soon riddled by audio issues.
“Doing too much,” as Swizz Beatz later said, compared to other Versuz battles. Teddy opted for an elaborate concert-like set up in his home. Unfortunately, the set up brought nothing but bothersome echoing among other issues. Through failed attempts at troubleshooting, the battle was eventually called off after an hour, hopefully to be rescheduled a second time.
Initial excitement for the battle from fans turned into sheer frustration at the absolute mess. Those who watched the battle fall apart right before their eyes shared their comical reactions on Twitter. Check out some reaction to the battle below.

A new date for the battle has not been revealed yet, but hopefully, the beauty of simplicity will be understood next time around.
