Jimmy Kimmel’s Emmys Monologue Was Interrupted By An Ageless Nominee

The most unusual Emmys in the award show’s history kicked off with host Jimmy Kimmel and… a packed house?

I’ll admit that I initially fell for the bit, which used footage from previous ceremonies to make it seem like the Staples Center was full of this year’s nominees. “Hello, and welcome to the Pand-Emmys. It’s great to finally see people again,” Kimmel cracked as the camera cut to the crowd. “Thank you for risking everything to be here, thank me for risking everything to be here. You know what they say, you can’t have a virus without a host.”

Of course, the rich and famous weren’t actually there (for once, the celebs are like us, the not-rich and not-famous: they’re watching at home). With one exception: Jason Bateman. When the Ozark star, who was mixed among the cardboard stand-ins for Sandra Oh and Billy Porter, was called out by Kimmel, he left behind a cutout of himself as a teen; when asked when the photo was taken, he replied, “I don’t know. I don’t age.”

Earlier in the monologue, Kimmel admitted that it might seem “frivolous and unnecessary” to hold an awards show right now, but “we need fun. My god, do we need fun.” Here’s to a fun night.

‘Tiger King’ Did Not Fare Well At This Year’s Emmy Awards

Tiger King was the first big TV hit of the quarantine era, bowing on Netflix soon after the coronavirus pandemic took over our lives and sent us hiding in doors. In the six months since, the lurid doc series been a continued object of obsession, with hairpin twists involving jailed zookeeper Joe Exotic and arch-nemesis Carole Baskin continuing after its seven episodes and special ended. But while it has its critics, one group that wasn’t as impressed with it as others was the Emmys.

That’s not entirely true: They did give it six nominations, all in their “Creative Arts” wing, which were handed out before Sunday’s big, televised show. The biggest of those was Outstanding Documentary of Nonfiction Series. Alas, that one went to the Michael Jordan series The Last Dance. And when it was handed out Saturday night, it put the nail in the coffin of the idea that Tiger King would be an Emmy star.

The other five awards, which were handed out over the last week, included ones for documentary/nonfiction directing, nonfiction picture editing, documentary series or special music composition (original dramatic score), nonfiction or reality program sound editing (single or multi-camera), nonfiction or reality program sound mixing, and documentary or nonfiction series (single or multi-camera). It lost those, too. Well, at least Carole Baskin still has Dancing with the Stars, at least of this writing.

Zendaya Is Already Owning The Virtual Emmys Red Carpet To Support Her ‘Euphoria’ Acting Nomination

Get ready, because no one knows what to expect from tonight’s virtual Emmys, but it’s gonna be a weird one, no matter what. 150+ camera kits got shipped out to nominees, and who knows whether someone’s wifi will collapse in the middle of an acceptance speech. Or a hot mic fiasco might happen? Host Jimmy Kimmel is looking forward to the mayhem, and we welcome it as well. Nothing is guaranteed to arrive as expected with one exception: Zendaya, the 24-year-old former Disney star who’s now nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama series for Euphoria, isn’t letting the pandemic get in the way of her usual reign of the (virtual) red carpet.

Z is wearing a Christopher John Rogers dress, Louboutin heels, and a Bulgari necklace. Her stylist showed off the look on Instagram.

This is sure to be the first of several looks for Zendaya, and she just might pull off an underdog win in her acting category (which could mean a hazmat suit-clad presenter on her porch). Never say never, and people are definitely here for all the looks she serves up as the evening continues.

Check out the rest of our Emmy’s coverage here, and enjoy the evening.

Lady Gaga Detailed Her Struggles With Mental Health: ‘I Hated Being Famous, I Hated Being A Star’

Lady Gaga returned this year with her sixth album, Chromatica, her first in almost four years. While fans were happy to welcome the pop singer back, the singer admits that the process was not the easiest. In a sit-down with CBS Sunday Morning, she opened up about her mental health struggles and how Chromatica gave people an unfiltered look at her struggles with depression and her continued effort to love herself again.

“There’s not one song on that album that’s not true, not one,” she said. She cited her song “911” as an example, explaining that the lyric”Pop a 911″ is a “reference to the medication I had to take when I used to panic because I’m Lady Gaga.” She also said she “totally gave up on [herself]” when she was asked why that time period in her life was so dark. “I hated being famous, I hated being a star, I felt exhausted and used up.”

Gaga also said that it’s “not always easy if you have mental issues to let other people see,” adding, “I used to show, I used to self-harm, I used to say, ‘Look I cut myself, see I’m hurting.’ Because I didn’t think anyone could see because mental health, it’s invisible.”

She also revealed that she was often triggered when her fans approached her in public. “If I’m at the grocery store and somebody comes up very close to me and puts a cellphone right in my face and starts taking pictures, just total panic, full-body pain. I’m braced because I’m so afraid,” she said. “It’s like I’m an object, I’m not a person.” However, when she was asked if she had the desire to continuing making music, Gaga said, “This, I have to do it,” as she pointed to her piano. “Turns out, even if I don’t want to be alive, I still know how to write a song.”

You can watch her sit down on CBS Sunday Morning in the video above.

Twitch Streamer SypherPK On His Favorite Pastimes And Gaming Gear

Quarantine Kit” features interviews with our favorite actors, musicians, influencers, chefs, athletes, and artists about their personal methods for killing time, staying fit, and keeping social distance during isolation.

Ali Hassan, best known as “SypherPK,” is a professional gamer uploading content daily to Twitch and Youtube of his personal gameplay and insights. In this past year, his community grew to 3.7 million followers and 4.5 million subscribers on Youtube. There are damn TV channels who don’t have platforms like that.

These days, Sypher streams for anywhere between four to eight hours from his computer station — making him is no stranger to the “working from home” lifestyle.

“I love what I get to do and I love the community that we have built,” SypherPK said to Uproxx when we chatted. “I always wanted to be a content creator and I started to see people I know really make it a reality, so I knew it could be a possibility.”

The streamer’s success didn’t come without effort though, putting in long hours to play competitively and stack his channel with vids. During that time he’s found the gear that helps him stay sharp and healthy. We asked him to run us through his setup and his techniques for relaxing.

STAYING ATUNE: JBL Quantum ONEs (check them out here)

I have used a lot of headphones over the years. Getting good sound is really important to getting the best gaming experience, and being able to communicate with your friends if you are playing a multiplayer or battle royale. I found it helpful to have a set that goes over your ears, and shuts out any noise that might be around you, like my dogs.

The headsets from JBL really impressed me from the very beginning, and there are a lot of professionals in the business who are using them now.

STAYING ENTERTAINED: Naruto (watch on Netflix here)

I was recently able to convince my wife to watch the entire Naruto series with me, which has given us a lot of television to catch up on — it’s streaming on Netflix. There are so many episodes, it is going to keep us busy for awhile, which is great because we don’t have to worry about picking what we are going to watch for awhile.

It has been fun to start it over from the beginning for me.

STAYING CONNECTED: Twitch (check out his channel here)

I enjoy the community that I have been able the grow on Twitch, while making videos for Youtube. I play a variety of games on the stream, for a long time it has been Fornite, but I have started to play a few other new games that I enjoy like Fall Guys and Spellbreak. I have been getting more into Call Of Duty, too, playing in some tournaments with pros that I team up with.

I’m excited to check out the new Black Ops: Cold War when that comes out in a little bit.

STAYING FREE: Logitech G305 (check it out here)

I prefer using a wireless gaming mouse when I play over one that’s plugged in. Seconds matter when you are talking about response time in most of the games I stream, but I haven’t felt any timing loss when using this bluetooth mouse. I have it set up so that my whole desk is a mousepad, so my mouse can literally go anywhere. On top of that you don’t have to worry about a cord cluttering up your space.

STAYING FIT: Tonal (check it out here)

I have been working to put together a home gym so that I can get healthy and avoid the crowds. I found this system, that is pretty cool, it uses resistance instead of weights and has programs loaded in there. So it takes up a lot less space, and the weight that it can simulate is pretty high. I have found it nice to have a way to exercise that is really close, because it gives me a lot less of an excuse to take a day off.

STAYING DAPPER: Headband

I usually get a line up every week, I don’t want to do that anymore because I have to get a haircut every single week. I came to the decision to grow it out a little more naturally. There is an awkward phase right now, so I am going to wear a headband for a little while during that phase.

STAYING HAPPY: His dogs (check out their Instagram here)

I love spending time with my dogs, three Australian Shepards, whenever I have free time, and occasionally they will come and hang out with me when I am streaming. My wife and I started making videos with the dogs too, it started off as just something to do for fun but now their Youtube channel is really taking off. T

hey even got their first sponsorship, Ollie, which means they are hitting the big time.

A Fan Broke Into Fenway Park And Threw Things Off The Green Monster During Yankees-Red Sox

The Yankees and Red Sox met on Sunday afternoon in Fenway Park, and while the season has been a bitter disappointment for Boston thus far, they were able to thump their hated rivals in a 10-2 win.

While the Sox bats came alive, the most exciting thing to happen during the game was when a fan who had broken into the stadium — MLB is not allowing fans into games amid the pandemic — emerged from the Green Monster seats and began throwing hats onto the field in the top of the eighth inning to the dismay of players and umpires.

It was a bizarre scene in Fenway, with security eventually taking the fan into custody, and the good news is he didn’t try to do anything to endanger the safety of players or the camera crew that was near him. Still, Fenway security will have to look into how this fan snuck into the stadium to be able to do this, because they can’t have folks just slipping into the stadium for a variety of reasons, particularly during a pandemic where the league is trying everything they can — including playoff bubbles — to ensure outbreaks don’t lead to more teams having to stop playing and the season can be completed.

A Whiskey Writer Shares His Favorite Bourbons Not Made In Kentucky

Christopher Osburn has spent the past fifteen years in search of “the best” — or at least his very favorite — sips of whisk(e)y on earth. In the process, he’s enjoyed more whisk(e)y drams than his doctor would dare feel comfortable with, traveled to over 20 countries testing local spirits, and visited more than fifty distilleries worldwide.

Bourbon is special. Known as “America’s Native Spirit,” this corn-based whiskey comes with a handful of specific guidelines. To be called a bourbon, its mash bill must be comprised of at least 51 percent corn, it must be distilled at no more than 80 percent alcohol, it must be aged in new, charred, oak barrels, it can enter the barrel at no higher than 62.5 percent alcohol, must be produced in the US, and if it’s aged for less than two years it can’t be called a “straight bourbon.” If it’s aged less than four years, it also must be labeled with the months it was aged.

But one thing you’ll never see mentioned in the official bourbon guidelines is that it must be made in Kentucky. That’s because, while 95 percent of bourbon is produced in the Blue Grass State, it technically can be made anywhere in the US. In fact, there are countless, high-quality, well-crafted bourbons produced in all corners of the sprawling nation.

Below you’ll find some of my personal favorites.

Balcones Texas Blue Corn Bourbon (Texas)

ABV: 64.5%

Price: $79.99

The Story:

Balcones was the first distillery to produce whiskey made from blue corn (there are a few others now). Known for its sweet, rich corn notes, the use of a blue corn varietal makes this a truly unique, Texas-style bourbon that’s complex and full of flavor.

This limited-edition, whiskey is available once a year and is aged in new, charred American oak barrels for between two and three years to mellow out the heat — turning it into a highly sippable whiskey.

Tasting Notes:

Right away, your nose will be met with aromas of sweet corn, cinnamon, peppery spice, and sugary caramel. The first sip yields dried orange peel, cooking spices, sweet cream, rich vanilla, and toffee. The finish is long, warming, and filled with white pepper and brown sugar sweetness.

Bottom Line:

This bourbon is made in limited quantities and can be difficult to find at times. That makes it a truly special bottle that deserves to be slipped slowly on a cool evening.

Wigle Pennsylvania Straight Bourbon (Pennsylvania)

ABV: 46%

Price: $54.99

The Story:

If you’ve never heard of Wigle, now is the time to get on board. This Pennsylvania-based distillery makes a wide array of whiskeys, including its award-winning Wigle Pennsylvania Straight Bourbon. While we don’t know what exactly a “Pennsylvania Bourbon” is, we know this was the first bourbon made in the state in more than 30 years and it’s made with 65 percent Wapsie Valley corn, plus winter wheat, and malted barley before being aged in new, charred American oak barrels for two years.

Tasting Notes:

Since you’ve likely never had a “Pennsylvania Bourbon,” you might want to give this whiskey a good nosing before taking a sip. The first scents you’ll find are sweet corn, creamy vanilla, and honey. The first sip delivers dried cherries, candied orange peels, sweet cream, and butterscotch. The finish isn’t rushed — full of nutty sweetness with just a hint of toasted caramel.

Bottom Line:

This is a great bourbon for fans of sweet corn. It’s sweet, rich, and full of caramel and vanilla — a perfect after dinner sipper.

Wyoming Double Cask Bourbon (Wyoming)

ABV: 50%

Price: $63.99

The Story:

You might not think about Wyoming when you think about bourbon, but the folks at Wyoming Whiskey are doing some really exciting things. Their Double Cask gets its name because it’s first aged for five years in new, charred oak casks before spending a second maturation in Pedro Ximenez sherry butts.

Tasting Notes:

Like all whiskeys that spend time in sherry butts, the initial aroma is sweet sherry along with brown sugar and dried cherries. The first sip drops a cascading symphony of sweet cream, butterscotch, English toffee, and cinnamon notes. The finish is long, warming, and full of subtle Christmas spices.

Bottom Line:

This is a really complex bourbon. With the combination of oak and sherry cask aging, this well-rounded dram is perfect for sipping on the rocks after a long day of work (even if you’re working from home).

Woodinville Straight Bourbon (Washington)

ABV: 45%

Price: $38.99

The Story:

This award-winning small-batch bourbon gets all of its grains (corn, rye, and barley) from Omlin Family Farm in nearby Quincy, Washington. Everything else in the whiskey-making process (mashing, distillation, and barreling) is completed at the distillery itself. Once the whiskey is barreled, it’s shipped over the Cascade Mountains to be aged at the distillery’s barrel houses. Why does it travel so far? Well, the temperature changes in the area are known to aid in the aging process.

Tasting Notes:

After the first nosing you’ll realize you’re in for a unique experience. While the nose isn’t overly heavy in flavor, you’re met with hints of cinnamon, caramel, butterscotch, and dried cherries. The first sip yields subtle hints of charred oak, caramelized sugar, and cooking spices. The finish is mellow, warming, and filled with subtle tobacco, espresso, caramel notes, plus a final flourish of white pepper.

Bottom Line:

This is a classic slow sipping whiskey. It’s small batch, full of vanilla sweetness and should be enjoyed over ice while you watch the leaves slowly see-saw down to earth.

Widow Jane The Vaults (New York)

ABV: 49.5%

Price: $144.99

The Story:

If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on a bottle of Widow Jane: The Vaults, you’re in a for a real flavor experience. This limited release bourbon is made with the company’s “rarest and oldest” bourbons that were hand picked by Widow Jane from its barrel house. It’s a blend of bourbons that are all at least 14 years old and finished in American oak barrels that were air seasoned for 8 full years.

Tasting Notes:

A bourbon of this high-quality deserves a long nosing before tasting. The first scents you’ll be met with are cinnamon, toasted oak, and dried figs. The first sip is effortlessly warming with hints of sweet vanilla, chocolate, and caramelized sugar. The finish is long, warming, and filled with sweet honey, cooking spices, and long lingering final note of vanilla beans.

Bottom Line:

Anything besides simply drinking this bourbon with a single ice cube is unacceptable. You’re already paying $150 for a bottle, you should enjoy every single note.

Belle Meade Cask Strength Reserve Bourbon (Tennessee)

ABV: 54.1%

Price: $67.99

The Story:

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with the brand’s original bourbon. But if you want to kick it up a notch, grab a bottle of its Reserve Bourbon. This offering was made by distillers hand-selecting specific higher proof, richer bourbons — aged between 7 and 11 years. They’re combined in small batches and bottled at high proof.

The result is a subtly spicy, high-rye bourbon perfect for fans of complex whiskeys.

Tasting Notes:

Before you drink, give this whiskey a proper nosing. You’ll be met with hints of cinnamon, brown sugar, caramel, and just a whiff of peppery spice. On the palate, this gem yields dried fruits, candied orange peel, sweet cream, and creamy vanilla, The finish is long, pleasantly warming, and feels like a long fall hug with hints of allspice, toasted oak, and mulled cider.

Bottom Line:

This should be your go-to fall sipper. Instead of making hot cider, pour yourself a glass of Belle Meade Cask Strength Reserve. It will warm you inside and out.

The Falcons Blew A 29-10 Lead To The Cowboys After A Ridiculous Onside Kick

The Atlanta Falcons exist, exclusively, to torture their fans. Their ability to find new and (to those of us on the outside) hilarious ways to lose never ceases to amaze, and on Sunday they put together another legendary collapse in Dallas.

Atlanta couldn’t be stopped early on, aided by some Dallas turnovers, and at one point held a 29-10 lead. Now, Falcons fans more than anyone understand that no lead in the NFL is safe, but the way they managed to blow this one was truly incredible. Atlanta’s offense would score 10 more points, as it wasn’t an offensive meltdown that led to the loss, but suddenly the defense couldn’t get a stop. After a Cowboys touchdown just inside the two minute warning on a Dak Prescott quarterback sneak, Dallas still needed a successful onside kick to have a chance.

The result was one of the funniest things you’ll see in the NFL this year, as they hooked a snaking, rolling kick that for some reason Atlanta refused to pick up, until it barely got 10 yards downfield and the Cowboys managed to fall on it.

Atlanta certainly wasn’t thinking it’d make it 10 yards and didn’t want to touch it and not control it to give Dallas a chance, but even so, with how slow it was moving, to not have a bunch of guys around the ball ready to pounce if it did make it that far is just horrific.

A completion to rookie CeeDee Lamb got the Cowboys down near the 30, and from there they decided to play for a long field goal — which is always a dangerous move — with a pair of inside handoffs to set up a 45 yarder from Greg Zuerlein in the final seconds. The nice thing about having a great kicker is they can make incredibly conservative play-calling look good, and Zuerlein buried the game-winner as time expired to give Dallas a 40-39 win in the most improbable of fashion.

It’s a horrendous loss for the Falcons, who now fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Cowboys avoid that fate themselves with the most improbable of comebacks. When the NFC playoff race is being decided we may very well look back at this game as a very important one, and one the Falcons will kick themselves for.

Miley Cyrus Delivered A Passionate Cover Of Blondie’s ‘Heart Of Glass’ At The iHeart Radio Music Festival

Miley Cyrus is currently putting the finishing touches on her upcoming album, which is currently titled She Is Miley Cyrus. The pop singer began the rollout for the album with her “Midnight Sky” single, which she released last month. While fans have yet to receive a new single from her upcoming album, Miley has continued to perform covers to get fans excited about her next full-length effort. Adding another one to the list, Miley delivered a passionate performance on Blondie’s “Heart Of Glass” during her recent appearance at the iHeart Radio Music Festival.

Backed by a live band, Miley delivered the performance in a black body suit that sparkled with diamonds that laid around both her neck and wrist. In addition to the Blondie cover, Miley also performed a trio of other songs, which included “Midnight Sky,” “Who Owns My Heart,” and her collab with Mark Ronson, “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart.”

Her cover of Blondie’s track comes after she shared a upbeat cover of Billie Eilish’s “My Future” single as well as a cover of The Beatles’ “Help,” which she performed in an empty Rose Bowl stadium earlier in the summer. Miley’s iHeart Radio Music Festival performance serves as her second in as many months after she performed “Midnight Sky” at the MTV VMAs at the end of August. Watch her cover of “Heart Of Glass” above.
