Pooh Shiesty Bought A New House For His Mother Weeks After His Brother’s Death

Pooh Shiesty has accomplished a lot in 2021. Earlier this year, the Memphis-born rapper released his debut commercial mixtape, Shiesty Season, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard albums chart, and which features his most successful single, “Back In Blood,” with Lil Durk. Now he’s Shiesty added a very personal accomplishment to his growing list of feats.

Shiesty recently bought a new home for his mother and took to Instagram to celebrate, dropping a video that shows him and his mother enjoying the house. It’s a big deal after the tragedy that recently befell he and his family: In late February, his brother Tarrance Henderson passed away after a battle with brain cancer. The death prompted Drake to send his condolences to the rapper in an audio message that Shiesty shared with fans.

“I just want to send you my condolences, man,” Drake said in part. “In tough times like this, realize what you’ve been able to accomplish in this short time and what you have in front of you. I’m wishing you strength in these times, man.”

Check out Pooh Shiesty’s Instagram post above.

Pete Davidson Says A Press Release Alleging That He Got Married Is ‘Completely Untrue’

Pete Davidson has an interesting enough life that he can basically play himself on SNL, appearing with fair regularity on Weekend Update to talk about whatever’s on his mind. But this is next level strange: The actor and comic had to put out a statement that shot down a rumor that he’d gotten married. What’s more, the (fake) news arrived via a press release.

According to Entertainment Weekly, a production company sent out a news item on Tuesday, breaking two stories. One, that they were teaming with Davidson on something called “Bodega Cats Presents,” intended to help people break into the entertainment industry. Perhaps more shocking was this: Davidson had gotten married to Michelle Davidson, the company’s alleged co-CEO and purportedly his childhood friend.

But neither, it seems, is true. Davidson’s attorney released a statement to numerous outlets, among them Page Six, saying, “Not a word of it is true. Mr. Davidson has no idea who this person is. We are investigating and considering all legal and equitable remedies.”

It’s a strange turn of events, no less because the press release included a statement attributed to Davidson about his involvement. “I am really excited to be part of this company and help people get a start in this industry,” the quote read. “I never thought I would do something like this, but I met some of my closest friends doing stand-up, so I felt this was the right thing to do to give back to my community.”

Neither Davidson nor Bodega Cats have responded to outlets’ request for a response. But this could make for a very entertaining Weekend Update monologue.

Natasha Lyonne And Rian Johnson Are Making A Detective Show, Which Is Almost The ‘Columbo’ Reboot People Dreamed Of

It was almost a year ago that the internet got into a bit of an argument: Who should star in a theoretical reboot of Peter Falk’s detective classic Columbo? Is it Mark Ruffalo, who has a kind of nervous-aloof-eccentric energy to him that could work? Or how about thinking outside the box and going female with Natasha Lyonne, who has her own thing going? Jump to the present day and we still don’t have a Columbo 2.0, but we do have this: A detective show starring Lyonne, helmed by no less than Rian Johnson.

As per Variety, the pair are teaming up for Poker Face, which Johnson describes as a “fun, character driven, case-of-the-week mystery,” for Peacock. If your mind darted to Columbo, then let us remind you that TV was very different before our current Golden Age of Television, with its continuing stories spread out over multiple seasons. There were lots of detective shows and they were all comprised of self-contained, killer-du-jour episodes. Columbo just did it better than most, with a famous guest killer every week, from John Cassavetes to Janet Leigh to Johnny Cash to William Shatner (twice!), among so many more.

But again, this isn’t a Columbo reboot! And that’s for the best! It would be impossible, maybe even sacrilegious to try and copy what Falk and company did with the show, which was tailor-made for its star, who wanted to do TV work as infrequently as possible, all so he could be free to pursue his film and stage careers.

That said, it wouldn’t be particularly blasphemous if Johnson — already busy with his own detective film series, revolving around Knives Out’s Benoit Blanc, played by Daniel Craig — nicked that show’s main structural gimmick, in which we learned who the murderer was right off the bat, didn’t meet Columbo till the 20-or-so-minute mark, then tried to see how our secretly not-really-bumbling hero would crack the case. And Lyonne, who’s currently busy with the second season of Russian Doll, has exactly the dynamic and unique personality to make for a backdoor Columbo remake far better than an actually Columbo remake.

But upon hearing about this new dynamic duo, everyone was stoked, including Lyonne and Johnson themselves.

Others agreed that this is a better idea than a Columbo revival.

In any case, the only way this news can get better is if Mark Ruffalo announced he’s teaming with some other hot shot director for his own non-Columbo detective series. Two is better than one!

The Bears Signed Andy Dalton After The Seahawks Refused To Trade Russell Wilson

The Chicago Bears have needed a quarterback for what feels like forever, trapped in a Browns-ian cycle of mediocrity (at best) at the most important position on the field. The Bears quarterback struggles have put immense stress on their defense, which puts in yeoman’s work to try and keep the team competitive, but seemingly annually eventually succumbs to the strain placed on them by a woeful offense.

This year, there was brief hope on the horizon when Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson both put forth trade requests, with Wilson even including the Bears on his shortlist of teams he’d want to play for. However, on Tuesday, the Bears made a quarterback signing in free agency that left fans shaking their heads, as Andy Dalton was brought on board, which is a sharp turn from Wilson dreams.

According to Adam Schefter, the Bears were “aggressive” in trying to deal for Wilson but couldn’t get the Seahawks to bite, with Seattle refusing to trade him for now. As such, Chicago turned to Plan B, which was apparently the 33-year-old former Bengals starter and, most recently, Cowboys backup-turned starter after Dak Prescott got hurt.

It is an uninspiring move, one that even saw the Bears Super Bowl odds drop at some sportsbooks, as the hope of finally having not just a competent but actually good quarterback has, unfortunately, been dashed for 2021 barring something unforeseen.

The ‘hottest thing you can do’ on a dating app right now is to say you’re vaccinated

The world of online dating is competitive. Single people have to use every advantage they can to make themselves more attractive than the next person being swiped through. Right now, one of the best ways to stand out is to let the world know that either you’ve been vaccinated or intend to be.

It makes sense, who in the world wants to go out on a date and come back with COVID-19?

“Yeah, I had a great date with Eddie. The problem is the next day I lost my sense of smell.”

An OkCupid spokesperson told the New York Times that those who claim to have been vaccinated are being liked at double the rate of those who’ve said they aren’t interested.

“Basically,” he said, “getting the vaccine is the hottest thing you could be doing on a dating app right now.”

A Tinder spokesperson told Vice that the site has seen a 238% increase in the mention of vaccines in user bios, noting “a significant increase starting in November 2020 and continuing to rise in December.”

After OkCupid added the question “will you get the Covid-19 vaccine?” to its platform, it saw that those who answered “yes” get 13% more likes from potential partners.

Forty percent of Millennials and Generation Z say they would cancel the first date with someone if they said they had no intention of getting vaccinated. That number jumps to 80% when they’re members of the LGBT community.

Being fully vaccinated also means that you can date other fully-vaccinated people without having to worry. According to the latest CDC guidelines, the fully-vaccinated can “gather indoors with fully vaccinated people without wearing a mask.”

Because let’s face it, masks may be safe but they aren’t very sexy unless, of course, you have a thing for people with partially-obscured faces.

via Pexels

Aside from the practical health considerations of meeting someone in the COVID-19 era, learning someone’s opinions on vaccines is a great way to know what they’re really about.

“It potentially signals people’s approach to health care, to their relationship, to science, their trust, and expertise,” Sociology professor Jennifer Reich, told ABC.

“It can signal a lot of other kinds of things that might be an indication of whether someone shares some of your values and perceptions about things like their relationships, their community, and their personal lifestyle,” said Reich added.

The fact that getting vaccinated makes people more appealing may have a positive effect on the overall vaccination rate. If refusing to get vaccinated begins limiting people’s ability to hook up, they may just decide to get a shot in order to improve their sex life.

“I guess from a public health perspective, dating apps could help win the war on the virus, because people will go: if I want to date somebody, then I better be vaccinated,” Ivo Vlaev, professor of behavioral science at Warwick Business School in England, told Insider. “The more governments and other organizations require vaccination status, the more we are going to require from each other.”

6-yr-old expertly coaches his little brother through a tantrum-ending breathing exercise

Anyone who has raised children knows that helping kids navigate their emotions is a big part of the job. Humans have feelings, and feelings can be hard to manage sometimes. Heck, when a whole mess of adults have a hard time consistently regulating their emotions (as evidenced by countless grownups throwing toddler tantrums in public over being asked to wear a mask, among other things), expecting small children to be able to get a hold of themselves is a tall order.

That’s what makes this 6-year-old expertly walking his 4-year-old brother through a breathing exercise to fend off a preschool tantrum pure, golden goodness.

Ashley West, a California mom of three boys, shared a video that’s gone viral of her son Noah (6) talking to his brother Cory (4), who was on the verge of throwing a fit. Truly, it’s worth the 21 seconds.

The way Noah coaches Cory through taking deep breaths, giving him visual cues with his hands while modeling the breathing himself is perfect. The way he gets his attention when Cory starts ramping up by raising his fingers and calmly saying “Breathe,” before continuing to breathe with him is just awesome.

And then the positive reinforcement and pat on the back once he calmed down? Priceless.

It’s clear that Noah has seen these techniques modeled for him at home. West told Upworthy that she is studying to become a social worker, so she has a lot of background in social-emotional work. (Yay, social workers! Pay them more!) She says the family also does a lot of yoga together, which helps explain why Noah’s efforts seemed almost automatic.

West explained on Twitter that Cory was upset because the Nintendo had just gotten plugged in and wasn’t charged enough to play yet—a relatable psychological challenge for a young child. But Noah stepped right in when the meltdown began.

“Y’all would’ve LOST it had I recorded it from the very beginning,” she said. “My baby was all ‘I understand the pain, I do, but you just have to wait, it’s not done yet.”

Gracious. Nothing like a master class in empathy and emotional regulation from a 6-year-old child.

Once you see it, it’s clear why this video has gone viral. The world needs more emotionally healthy kids and adults in the world, and we all know it. While West says she’s not a perfect parent and doesn’t have all the answers, it’s clear that she’s doing a lot of things right with her kids.

It may seem like a simple thing, but intentional breathing can be an effective calming technique no matter what age you are. According to the University of Michigan, taking deep breaths mimics the way we breathe when we’re relaxed, which makes our body tell our brain to calm down, which prompts our brain to sends a message back to our body to relax.

However, when your brain and body are in a heightened state, it can be hard to remind yourself to breathe, so having someone there to guide you through it can be helpful. My son went through a period of having panic attacks when he was younger, and we would do “box breathing” or “square breathing” together. I’d slowly draw an imaginary square in the air with my fingers, and we’d breathe in together as my finger went up one side (about five seconds), hold our breath as it went across the top, breathe out as it went down the other side, and then hold the exhale to complete the square. After a while, I’d just remind him to “box breathe” whenever he’d feel anxious, and he could do the square himself.

Good for Noah for already developing such excellent skills at such a young age, and good for his mom for giving him emotional tools he’ll use for the rest of his life.

Now if we could just hire them to go around and teach the adults how to get a hold of themselves when they start pitching a fit, that’d be fabulous.

A Guide To Amsterdam, From ‘Below Deck’ Star Dani Soares

Ah, Amsterdam — the city of cannabis cafes, picturesque canals, great coffee, a famous Red Light district, and… good fries? Fries aren’t the first thing that comes to our minds when it comes to Amsterdam, but after we reached out to Bravo’s Dani Soares of Below Deck Sailing Yacht fame, eating fried potatoes while watching boats drift gently down a canal is all that we can think about. Put us down for french fries, pancakes, and exploration in Amsterdam as soon as the pandemic is over and we’re all vaccinated.

“Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities in the world,” Soares tells Uproxx. “The vibe is just so welcoming and the people are so accepting. You can be who you want and enjoy great wine or a handcrafted cocktail while feeling safe and enjoying the great atmosphere.”

Soares — who holds the position of second stewardess on Below Deck Sailing Yacht‘s Parsifal III — may be new to the limelight, but as her Instagram shows, she’s no stranger to traveling the world. In fact, she happened upon her eight-year career in yachting while “dock walking” during a visit to France.

With travel looking more and more viable in mid-to-late 2021, we asked Dani Soares for her ideal post-pandemic travel spot and she provided us with a guide for a perfect Amsterdam experience — whether you’re hitting the Dutch city for just a day or taking a full-on vacation in Holland.

What is the best breakfast spot in Amsterdam?

Pancake Amsterdam

Believe it or not, Amsterdam is well known for its pancakes — mostly the thin kind, like a crepe but also nice fluffy American style pancakes as well. Pancake Amsterdam has quite a few restaurants all over the city and I absolutely love it, would have my breakfast there every morning if I could.

What is the best way to enjoy the outdoors in Amsterdam?

Cycle through Leiden

Dani Soares

When here, you need to grab a bicycle and go experience it like the locals. Cycle towards Leiden, an amazing little town full of students and great cafés and you’ll experience all the flowers and a little bit of the Dutch countryside.

What is one thing everyone visiting Amsterdam must experience?

The Beer Culture

Two things that are very “touristy” but also super cool: Visiting the Heineken Factory to learn how the world-famous beer was created and crafted. Also, a Pub Crawl around the Red Light District. There are companies providing this service and they will take you around famous bars, along the way you can take in all the unique sights of the Red Light District.

What is your favorite thing to do in Amsterdam?

Explore

Dani Soares

The city has an amazing mix of cultures and the buildings have so much history with some of the coolest bars and restaurants anywhere. It is also my favorite city for shopping for local brands and unique clothing that you can only find in Amsterdam.

Where is the best late-night dinner spot in Amsterdam?

Vlaams Friteshius Vleminckx

Make sure you have fries with mayo from one of the many Vlaams Friteshius Vleminckx locations around the city after a night out. I swear these taste different than fries everywhere else.

What is the best bar or club someone visiting Amsterdam must go to? (after covid of course)

Tales & Spirits

My friend and I found this super cool cocktail bar called Tales & Spirits. As the name suggests, every cocktail comes with a little story and if you make it there, ask for a cocktail called “Barbie in the Bathtub.” It’s not on the menu but they’ll make it for you and I promise you’ll love it!

What is your fondest/funniest/most impactful memory from visiting Amsterdam?

Hunting for fries

People in Amsterdam are crazy about their fries! There are loads of little stores that all sell fries with mayo. One day my friend and I decided to have a girl’s night out and ended up getting too drunk and lost and were desperate to find some fries. We spent close to 30 minutes looking for a place to get fries, and we finally found one and it was the best fries I’ve ever had ever.

That was an amazing night with just the girls just having fun and enjoying ourselves!

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs on Mondays at 9 pm ET/PT on Bravo.

‘The Falcon And The Winter Soldier’ Will Set Up At Least Three Future MCU Projects

While Marvel fans were aware that WandaVision would directly lead into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Captain Marvel 2 thanks to the addition of Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, there’s been next to zero information on what happens next for the characters in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. But thanks to a new interview with head writer Malcolm Spellman, we now know that the upcoming Disney+ series will have a significant impact on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Spellman, the show will directly tie into multiple MCU projects, but good luck figuring out which those are.

“I can think of three that I’m not allowed to talk about,” Spellman told Entertainment Weekly. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige also refused to elaborate and simply said that talk of plans for Bucky and Sam’s future fall into the “spoiler realm.”

However, Marvel fans won’t have to wait long to see where The Falcon and the Winter Soldier might be taking the MCU. The show debuts later this week, and Uproxx recently sat down with director Kari Skogland who teased that the first episode will take an interesting turn that surprised even the show’s creators.

“Well, all I can tell you is that the ride that we go on is very unexpected,” Skogland said. “What was thought what was going to happen after Endgame – because we thought that we were going to go down a certain path – we did not go down that path. If there’s a door number one, two, and three? We definitely don’t choose door number one.”

What’s On Tonight: ‘Mayans M.C.’ Rides Again, And Michelle Obama’s On With ‘Waffles + Mochi’

Mayans M.C.: Season 3 Premiere (FX, 10:00pm) — This biker drama’s second-season finale aired in late 2019, and we’ve been waiting all this time to find out the identity of the SAMCRO member who was killed at the Vatos Malditos party. EZ is now a fully-patched member, so he can stress out even more this season, and basically, the whole club starts this season a few months after that party (and the purposeful killing of Dita) in a rough place. Fortunately, this season looks to be a lot less about personal conflict and more about club maneuvering that could lead to war. Not only are the two rival M.C.s coming no closer to peacefully coexisting, but the Galindo cartel is essentially f*cked in multiple ways, and real-world issues intrude to make a fine mess for all characters. Showrunner Elgin James is officially taking the show into the post-Kurt Sutter era of the Sons Of Anarchy franchise, and he’s promised plenty of fallout involving one of my favorite words, “reckoning.” Let’s ride.

Staged: Series 2 (BBC One series on Hulu) — This is the rare COVID-era comedy that’s worth tuning into because who can resist David Tennant and Michael Sheen shooting the sh*t together while playing somewhat fictional versions of themselves? This second installment spans eight episodes and basically follows the two Brits losing their minds during this crisis that’s also making the rest of lose our minds, too. The guest lineup includes Whoopi Goldberg, Ben Schwartz, Jim Parsons, Simon Pegg, Cate Blanchett, Christoph Waltz, Ken Jeong, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Waffles + Mochi: Season 1 (Netflix series) — Michelle Freaking Obama stars in this show about two curious puppets, (obviously) Waffles and Mochi, who explore the world through food and culture. This also doubles as an educational series about fresh-ingredient cooking, so learn how to become a chef, along with the puppets and a former first lady. Don’t resist this one!

RebellComedy: Straight Outta the Zoo (Netflix special) — Netflix is swinging back into the fresh stand-up game with this comedy collective full of versatile comedians, all of whom bring different perspectives that tie into a unique group identity.

The Flash (CW, 8:00pm) — Eva’s growing more powerful while Barry works to stop her, and the team is all surprised when Sue Dearbon risks everything to give n assist.

Superman and Lois (CW, 9:00pm) — The world’s most famous superhero and the most famous journalist are behaving as ordinarily as possible in this series, and one can guess how well that will work out. This week, Lois and Chrissy spie a fish out of water, and they don’t have a good feeling about this at all.

New Amsterdam (NBC, 9:00pm) — Max is working to launch new revenue streams for New Amsterdam, and Iggy is not here for the telemedicine thing, but Sharpe makes a discovery.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! — Michelle Obama, Adam Levine and Maroon 5

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert — Lupita Nyong’o, Martin Freeman

The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon — Benedict Cumberbatch, Madelaine Petsch, ROSÉ

Late Night With Seth Meyers — Joel McHale, Mark Harris

In case you missed this pick from last Tuesday:

COVID Diaries NYC (HBO, 9:00pm) — Granted, this subject matter might be something that you aren’t prepared to voluntarily absorb, but there’s more here than meets the title. This deeply personal film turns the camera on five young filmmakers in New York City, who tell their families’ stories during the pandemic’s first wave in the (best) city that (you know) never sleeps. Frontline workers and every day New Yorkers get real in their own very resilient ways, all while the U.S. continues to process and battle an invisible enemy while searching, somehow, for meaning.

Squid Preview Their Debut Album ‘Bright Green Field’ With The Experimental Ride ‘Paddling’

The members of Squid, a five-piece group from the UK, met at college and bonded over their love of ambient and jazz music. It’s unsurprising then, that Paddling, the latest preview of their debut album Bright Green Field, is an experimental number, which has shades of David Byrne, The B-52s, and punk.

The band says of the track, “Written from two different perspectives, ‘Paddling’ is a song about the dichotomy between simple pleasures and decadent consumerism. Recounting a familiar scene from The Wind in the Willows, the song reminds us that although we are humans, we are ultimately animals that are driven by both modern and primal instincts, leading to vanity and machismo around us in the everyday.”

In the description of the YouTube video for the song, the band also noted of it and of Bright Green Field:

“We started writing Paddling when we were but kids still living in Brighton. Last summer we really got into playing this together again. Straight away we started to work the tune into new places whilst we were writing at the Old Road in Chippenham, the track became an important part of Bright Green Field for us.

Recording Paddling was great, it was quite hot so naturally the tempo was upped a fair bit too. Dan Carey’s modular synthesizer is definitely the 6th band member in this one, turning Louis & Anton’s guitars into racecars from about the 5 minute mark.

Our debut album Bright Green Field is out 7th May on @Warp Records! This is the debut album we’ve always wanted to make and without a doubt the most ambitious thing we’ve ever done. We can’t wait for you to hear the whole thing. And especially to be able to play it to you in person…….”

Listen to “Paddling” above and check out the Bright Green Field art and tracklist below.
