DMX Is Reportedly Hospitalized In Critical Condition After An Apparent Drug Overdose

Famed Harlem rapper DMX was reportedly rushed to the critical care unit at a White Plains, New York hospital after an apparent drug overdose, according to TMZ. The publication reports that the incident, which also triggered a heart attack, occurred around 11 p.m. on Friday night at the rapper’s home. News began to circulate after Eric B, one half of the rap duo Eric B. & Rakim, shared an image of himself and DMX with the caption, “Please pray for my brother DMX,” and the hashtag #DMXhospitalized. Rick Ross also sent prayers to DMX in a post to his Instagram story, saying, “Prayers up for DMX the legend, let’s put that in the sky.”

DMX has struggled with drug addiction for much of his career and has been open about his battle. Back in 2017, he checked himself into rehab to “be a better father, friend, and entertainer,” according to Rolling Stone. He once again returned to rehab in fall 2019, less than nine months after he was released from prison on tax evasion charges. In an Instagram post from the latter incident, the caption read, “In his ongoing commitment to putting family and sobriety first, DMX has checked himself into a rehab facility,” adding, “He apologizes for his cancelled shows and thanks his fans for their continued support.”

The rapper was currently working on his upcoming album, which he confirmed had appearances from Griselda Records, Pop Smoke, U2’s Bono, and more.

Trump Is Reportedly Being Advised To Steer Very, Very Clear Of The Matt Gaetz Scandal

Matt Gaetz, as you may have heard, is in deep doo-doo. The Florida representative is under investigation by the FBI over possible sex trafficiking involving a minor, and even his attempts to elicit help from old friends isn’t working. His appearance on Tucker Carlson tonight was instantly notorious, and he even enraged the controversial host when he tried to rope him into the scandal. And it looks like he won’t be getting help from another close ally either.

As per The Daily Beast, former president Donald J. Trump is being advised to steer very, very clear of the Gaetz scandal. This is despite Gaetz being one of his biggest and most stubborn cheerleaders, sticking by his side even after a mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol in a failed but deadly siege.

“I don’t hope for anybody to be guilty of anything, but it sounds like he’s got a lot of explaining to do,” said Barry Bennet, a longtime GOP operative and lobbyist, who was among those who advised Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign. “For something like this,” he added, “a ten-foot pole is not long enough. The former president should stay as far away from this as possible.”

It’s not just the sex trafficiking investigation. On Thursday it was revealed he’s also being looked at for potential improper use of campaign funds, that he has shown naked pictures of women he says he’s slept with to other lawmakers on the House floor, and that he may be involved in a sex ring with an indicted Florida politician.

But Gaetz isn’t entirely alone. Among those who’ve publicly come to his side are Jim Jordan, with whom he’s been dubbed “Beavis and Butt-head,” and the conspiracy theorist Marjorie Taylor Greene. That’s it. Only two lawmakers are on Gaetz’s side. And, for now at least, he won’t even get that Trump boost.

LeBron James Enters The Matrix In The First Trailer For ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’

A few weeks back Space Jam: A New Legacy — the very belated sequel to the basketball-and-Looney Tunes original — became the most controversial movie of 2021. It was back when conservative media was distracting itself with fury over children’s entertainment. Grabby Pepe Le Pew had been removed. Lola Bunny was now feminist. Suddenly it wasn’t just another franchise entry that people might be able to actually watch on a big screen.

But ignore all that for now: The sequel now has its first official trailer, and it’s not controversial in the least. We’ve been promised it will involve far more the just Bugs Bunny and gang. It will involve the entire, vast Warner Bros. catalogue. We only get a taste of that here, starting with star LeBron James happening upon some mystical portal. “Is this some kind of matrix?” he asks, a winky-winky nod to one of the company’s most beloved film series.

He’s then plunged into a computerized world, where an evil Don Cheadle informs him he has to win some CGI basketball game in order to save his son. We see Bugs, we see Lola, we blink-and-miss appearances from Porky Pig, Yosemite Sam, the Tasmanian Devil, and more. And we see some slam dunks. One item not there: Bill Murray, who it appears will be sitting this sequel out, much as he did Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.

Space Jam: A New Legacy hits theaters on July 16.

Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire Submitted Emmanuel Sanchez To Win The Main Event Of Bellator 255

Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (32-4) submitted Emmanuel Sanchez (20-5) to successfully defend the Bellator featherweight title and move on to the finals of the Featherweight World Grand Prix Tournament in the main event of Bellator 255 Friday night from the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.

https://twitter.com/blue_fighting/status/1378185520388452356

Sanchez spent much of the first round shredding Pitbull’s inner and outer lead leg with stinging leg kicks. As Sanchez came in for a left hand midway through the round, Pitbull caught him on the jaw and sent him to the ground. Sanchez tried to get to his feet and Pitbull locked in the guillotine, wrapped his legs around his opponent and choked Sanchez unconscious to successfully defend the belt.

With the win, Pitbull became the first fighter to finish Sanchez. He’ll now move on to fight AJ McKee, unbeaten at 17-0.

The win also makes it seven consecutive for Pitbull, who has his eyes firmly planted on earning the $1 million prize for winning the Grand Prix Tournament, then moving on to a cross-promotional fight.

“The ones that have the belt, Volkanovski, Holloway,” Pitbull told Uproxx Sports before Friday night’s main event. “I’ve beaten Chandler and that’s that. I don’t need to fight Chandler. (Bellator) is just like me. We like to do these things to prove we are the best. We’ve done cross-promotional fights with RIZIN. Scott (Coker) would like to do that with the UFC for a second time.”

The Raptors Set A Franchise Record With Their Epic 53-Point Blowout Win Over The Warriors

It hasn’t been a great season for either the Warriors or the Raptors. Pascal Siakam was recently fined for an apparent confrontation with head coach Nick Nurse, and by the trade deadline, all signs pointed to it being Kyle Lowry’s final days with the franchise. That never came to pass, however, and now Toronto is faced with trying to sneak into that 10th spot in the East to try and make the play-in tournament.

For the Warriors, things just keep going downhill. They’re now 1-7 without Steph Curry in the lineup, and on Friday night against the Raptors, they sunk to a near-historic low as Toronto put a 53-point drubbing on them, 130-77. It was the largest margin of victory in franchise history the Raptors and the second-worst loss for the Warriors, just behind a 63-point loss to the Lakers in 1973.

Siakam led the way with 36 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and a pair of steals, while trade deadline acquisition Gary Trent Jr. added 24 points, five rebounds, and five assists and made six of his nine three-point attempts.

Both Curry and Draymond Green were out on Friday night, and the Warriors didn’t get much help from anyone else, as they shot a brutal 26-of-79 from the field for the game. Golden State trailed by as many as 60 at one point and have now lost 11 of their last 15 games. They currently sit in the No. 10 spot in the West, just a half-game ahead of the Kings for the final play-in spot.

Stanford Is Headed To The National Championship After South Carolina Missed Two Layups At The Buzzer

It’s that time of year again, so that means pretty much anything goes when it comes to the NCAA Tournament. This season has already seen its fair share of upsets through the first few rounds, along with wild finishes. On Friday night, we got our latest thrilling conclusion as the Stanford Cardinal took on the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Final Four of the Women’s NCAA Tournament.

With under a minute remaining in the fourth period, Destanni Henderson knocked down a three to give South Carolina the lead, but Haley Jones followed that up with a two to put the Cardinal back up. Leading 66-65 with under 10 seconds to go, Stanford was attempting to inbound the ball when the Gamecocks came up with a steal and bolted down the other way.

What happened next was heartbreaking, as Aliyah Boston and Brea Beal both missed two back-to-back attempts right at the rim as the buzzer sounded and let Stanford escaped with a narrow victory to earn their ticket to the Championship game.

That’s a tough ending to the season, and those missed shots are ones that they won’t soon forget. For Stanford, it’s their first appearance in the title game since 2010, and they’ll play the winner of UCONN vs. Arizona.

Report: Conor McGregor And Dustin Poirier Signed On For A Trilogy UFC Fight

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier have reportedly signed on to settle their score in a trilogy bout — just as they promised they would back in January — scheduled for July 10, according to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani.

While it would have made sense for Poirier to be in consideration for the fight for the vacant UFC lightweight title taking place in May at UFC 262, the contender opted for what’s certain to be a nice payday against McGregor, opening spots for Charles Oliveira to face off against Michael Chandler for the belt.

The third bout between McGregor and Poirier comes after the latter used a round and a half to put McGregor down, using stifling leg kicks and precise strikes to TKO the former double champion. Poirier’s first fight against McGregor came in 2014, where he suffered a first-round knockout at the hands of the former two-division champion.

This time, both fighters see what is a clear opening in the lightweight division to earn No. 1 contender status. With Khabib Nurmagomedov retired, the gap is razor-thin between Poirier as the UFC’s top contender and McGregor, who sits behind Justin Gaethje, Oliveira, Chandler, and Tony Ferguson in the rankings.

McGregor-Poirier currently has no venue, but with states opening up certain capacity seating in the coming months, UFC president Dana White could have his choices when it comes to another blockbuster fight.

A comic published in 1997 predicted online schooling in 2021 with eerie accuracy

In 1997, we used the internet primarily for email and for the novelty of being able to look things up on the “worldwide web.” The internet wasn’t even 10 years old and was a tiny fraction of one percent the size it is now. Speeds that seemed fast then would make us throw our laptops at the wall now. There was no Google, no social media, no Zoom. This is what the top search engine looked like:

Wayback Machine

We knew the internet had some potential, but we had no idea how reliant we would become on it for pretty much everything. Our vision of what the future might hold still looked like the Jetsons in many ways. Flying cars. Bulbous architecture. Inexplicably pointy clothing. Some kind of cool communication devices that would allow us to see one another’s faces in real-time.

And yet, Archie Comics got one thing eerily right in a 1997 Betty comic titled “High School 20201 A.D.” Virtual, online school.

Of course, it wasn’t happening due to a pandemic, but was simply the way school happens in their imagined future.

“Kids today are SO lucky! They’re able to go to school in their own home!” says Betty’s Dad. “They never have to carry books to school…and they never have to worry about the weather!”

Flashback to this winter, when schools contemplated whether or not to have “snow days” for kids doing school at home.

“‘Scue me, folks!” says Betty. “Class is about to begin!” She sits in front a definitely-not-2021-accurate computer with a hilariously huge camera atop it, but the basic gist is spot on. Especially when we see the sign on the wall that reads “VIDEO MONITOR MUST REMAIN UNCOVERED AT ALL TIMES.”

Kids turning off their cameras was one of the hundreds of challenges teachers have had to deal with through the 2020-2021 school year. Phew.

Screenshots of the first page of the comic have gone viral on social media as people point out how bonkers it is that the comic pinpointed this year for their online, at-home schooling idea. Snopes had to do a fact-check as people asked if it was real, and Archie Comics themselves wrote up a page on their site about the prescient comic.

They wrote:

“The 6-page story, originally titled ‘Betty in High School 2021 A.D.’ was written by George Gladir, with art by Stan Goldberg, Mike Esposito, Bill Yoshida, and Barry Grossman. In this story we find Betty and her friends in Riverdale dealing with the struggles of virtual home schooling!

When this story was reprinted in 2015, the year in the title was changed to ‘2104 AD’ (probably because we didn’t have flying cars yet) but rest assured, the original story was published in 1997 and eerily predicted elements of virtual home schooling now commonly found across the world!”

Archie Comics went ahead and shared the rest of the comic on Facebook, and it’s fun to see what was eerily accurate and what was hilariously not.

“My video phone is flashing!” Betty thinks, as her pink magic-mirror-looking phone rings. Remember, most people didn’t have cell phones at this point, and smartphones with cameras were a more futuristic idea than flying cars, oddly enough.

And as bizarre a year as it’s been, I don’t think any schools have instituted “closet detention” for at-home schoolers.

Betty’s friends’ “special video screen” she puts behind her to make her feel like she’s not alone in class is pretty funny, and not terribly unlike the Zoom backgrounds we can virtually put behind ourselves.

They actually overshot a little with the super short skirts, as the micro-mini actually made a comeback in the early 2000s.

And yep, there’s the good ol’ futuristic flying car. Is there anything we’ve been more wrong about than the likelihood of flying around in cars by now? I don’t think so.

The rest of the comic is the teens checking out the old high school museum, where they could see the cafeteria and bulletin board and “an actual classroom.”

And Betty ultimately saying she wished she could “go back to the days of our old and obsolete high school.”

Yep. That part’s accurate for a lot of actual 2021 students as well.

Virtual schooling has been a mixed bag, with some kids thriving at home without the pressures and social drama of in-person school, while others have struggled without the structure and social stimulation of it. But no one was prepared for the sudden shift to online learning. The past year has been one long stretch of trial and error, forced flexibility, and constant adaptation. And it definitely wasn’t the future—or present—any of us had hoped for.

Hopefully, we’ll get those flying cars one of these days. In the meantime, we’ll settle for basic in-person schooling and some semblance of normalcy.

Greta Thunberg celebrates Autism Awareness Day by proudly calling it her ‘gift’

April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day where hundreds of thousands of landmarks, buildings, homes, and communities around the world come together to light up blue in recognition of people with autism and those who love and support them.

It also kicks off World Autism Month, featuring 30 days of Autism-friendly events and educational activities to increase the understanding and acceptance of people with autism and inspire a kinder, more inclusive world.

About one in 59 children has autism spectrum disorder, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Anyone who has experience with someone with autism knows the disorder is seriously misunderstood. So if there’s one message we can share with the world this month, it’s this: People with autism think differently.

Not better or worse, just differently.

People who think outside of the box are the greatest innovators and their spark of unique inspiration pushes the world forward. In fact, it’s believed that some of the world’s greatest minds such as Albert Einstein, Thomas Jefferson, Charles Darwin, and Michaelangelo may have been on the autism spectrum.

There’s no clearer example in this day and age than the work of environmentalist Greta Thunberg. Thunberg credits having Asperger’s, a profile on the autism spectrum, for her tireless devotion to stopping climate change.

People with Asperger’s are known for their ability to hyper-focus on a subject of interest.

“That makes you different; that makes you think differently,” Thunberg said. “Especially in such a big crisis like this one, we need to think outside the box, we need to think outside our current system, we need people who think outside the box and who aren’t like everyone else.”

She credits Asperger’s for giving her the ability to speak truth to power like when she dramatically chastised the United Nations General Assembly for its lack of action on climate change.

“How dare you,” she said. “You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words.”

She’s credited autism for giving her the power to ignore her critics. “I have Asperger’s, I’m on the autism spectrum, so I don’t really care about social codes that way,” she said.

To commemorate Autism Awareness Day, Thunberg shared a series of tweets about what it’s like being diagnosed with autism and how it’s unfortunately misunderstood by many. She also shares why her diagnosis is something she accepts with a sense of pride.

Thunberg’s unapologetic embrace and openness about living with Asperger’s is a wonderful example of promoting the positive aspects of being neurologically atypical. It also shows people on the autism spectrum and those who support them that being diagnosed doesn’t necessarily limit their abilities.

People with autism think differently. Hopefully, World Autism Month can push people across the globe to openly embrace those who think differently, because they may be humanity’s greatest hope for solving our biggest problems.

The CDC Said Vaccinated Americans Can Travel With Low Risk To Themselves, But Still Doesn’t Recommend Vacationing Just Yet

Eager travelers got some good news from the Centers for Disease Control on Friday, though that news came with a bit of a caveat and a warning from health officials that staying home is still the best policy as the COVID-19 pandemic continues this spring.

As CNN laid out on Friday, the CDC detailed guidelines for those who have been fully immunized by a COVID-19 vaccine and hope to travel. The good news: there’s much less risk to themselves for those vaccinated, but some uncertainty remains for everyone else.

Fully vaccinated people can travel at low risk to themselves, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said Friday, but travel still isn’t recommended at this time because of rising numbers of coronavirus cases.

The agency said that as long as coronavirus precautions are taken, including mask wearing, fully vaccinated people can travel within the United States without getting tested for Covid-19 before or self-quarantining after.

News of little risk for vaccinated travelers was initially seen as a green light for travel by many, but the CDC later clarified that it doesn’t recommend traveling just yet.

But being vaccinated, while helping bring America one step closer to ending the COVID-19 pandemic and hopefully reaching herd immunity, does at least in theory make travel a bit less of a hassle than it would if you’re unvaccinated. Not needing to quarantine or acquire a negative test before a trip is good news, though proper masking and staying away from crowds is still recommended for the foreseeable future.

And despite the good signs that vaccinated people are unlikely to contract coronavirus, the science is still unclear just yet about whether it can be spread to others who are unvaccinated, which is why the CDC has not officially recommended for anyone just yet.

“We haven’t changed our guidance for nonessential travel at all. We are not recommending travel at this time, especially for unvaccinated people,” Walensky said, emphasizing that the update is meant for those who are vaccinated — only about 20% of the adult population.

“I still continue to worry that with 80% of the population unvaccinated that we still have a lot of work to do to control this pandemic,” Walensky said.

With vaccine safety still being studied in children under 18, many families won’t be able to travel fully vaccinated for some time. But for those dreaming of a travel-filled future in a post-coronavirus world, the sense is that we’re finally getting a bit closer to actually making that a reality.
