Stephen Curry has been the shining star for the Golden State Warriors this season, putting up unbelievable performances on a near nightly basis and vaulting himself into the MVP discussion as he drags the Warriors to the play-in tournament. However, probably second on the list of Warriors that have brought joy to the fanbase this season is Juan Toscano-Anderson, as the young forward on a two-way has provided them with a little bit of everything this season and, most importantly, tremendous energy and effort.
While he got a big ovation from his teammates, the fall was much scarier than most anyone knew, as JTA suffered a concussion and needed 35 stitches to close up a cut on the back of his head. On Friday night, Toscano-Anderson spoke with the media after his return to action in a win over Denver, and explained just how scary that fall was, noting he was “lucky to be here,” while maintaining he would and will make that same play again.
Finally had the chance to ask Juan Toscano-Anderson about that fall in Boston that gave him a concussion/cut needing 35 stitches. He details the “scary” situation here. pic.twitter.com/gCAc7XTkIg
It’s obviously good news that JTA’s injury wasn’t as severe as it could’ve been and hopefully he’s fully past any lingering effects of the concussion. The way he talks about the play and still wanting to make it again is why Warriors fans love him and why he will soon be on a full-time NBA contract, not a two-way. That said, it it might be time for teams to look into the exposed steps they have now in the new configuration of how sidelines are setup and whether they should find ways to put some kind of cover over the steel edge to protect against similar injuries happening as players make plays for loose balls going out of bounds in the future.
Beyonc has accomplished a lot in her stories career, but one of her towering achievements is her 2016 album Lemonade, as well as its accompanying music film, which earned accolades as well. The 12-track effort highlighted the turmoil she experienced in her marriage with Jay-Z, and people are still talking about it on its fifth anniversary. Beyonce herself made sure to commemorate the album’s birthday with a touching post to Instagram.
“I’m grateful that this body of work has resonated so deeply with so many people,” Beyonce wrote in the caption, alongside images from the movie version of the album. “I’m so thankful for all the beautiful souls involved in making one of my favorite pieces of art. As I celebrate five years of LEMONADE, I encourage everyone to continue healing, loving, forgiving and uplifting.” She added, “I hope you find joy today.”
The anniversary comes just a month after she and Megan Thee Stallion became the first women to win the Best Rap Performance award at the Grammys. Her daughter Blue Ivy also became one of the youngest Grammy winners in history after taking home an award for Best Music Video, which she appeared in alongside Beyonce, Wizkid, and Saint Jhn.
Marvel heads were shocked when they learned that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the MCU’s latest show, had a special guest star: none other than Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The Seinfeld and Veep star played mysterious operative Valentina Allegra de Fontaine — a classic character who was supposed to debut in Black Widow, only for a certain pandemic to scuttle those plans. (You can call her Val.) Her appearance was a well-guarded secret — and we now know the producers went to great length to keep it that way.
Louis-Dreyfus posted a short video on her Twitter account, showing her being draped in a giant black hooded cloak, making her almost like a Druid preparing for an ancient ceremony — or, you know, to prepare for a Marvel show. “They snuck me onto set every day in this stunning hooded cloak,” the actress wrote. “I have worn it every day since. Obviously.”
It seems ridiculous, but apparently it worked! People had no idea the erstwhile Elaine Benes was going to hobnob with a Captain America, even if her famously Superman-loving Seinfeld co-creator would perhaps prefer she grace the DCEU instead. It’s yet another case of everyone at the MCU keeping a lid on some big reveal. After all, it wasn’t that long ago that people were doing epic double-takes when Evan Jones swung by WandaVision to play a character he’d previously played for Fox pre-Disney absorption. What random celebrity will be next to go MCU? Our money’s on Jason Alexander.
LeBron James has an uncanny ability to get folks very mad when he offers his thoughts on things beyond the basketball court. The man who inspired the “shut up and dribble” phrase and used that to fuel his “More Than An Athlete” slogan has never been shy about voicing his opinion and using his massive platform to speak out on issues facing the Black community.
The latest example came this past week when Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all counts for murdering George Floyd, but the same day word emerged of the latest Black American shot and killed by a police officer, as Ma’Khia Bryant, a 16-year-old girl, was killed by police in Columbus, Ohio. After body cam footage was released showing the officer shooting Bryant four times, James tweeted “YOU’RE NEXT #ACCOUNTABILITY” referencing Chauvin being convicted of murder, but those on the right took it as a call to violence against the officer. James would later clarify what he meant to remove any ambiguity, but as a regular target of right wing vitriol, that didn’t matter.
Among those outraged by James again taking a stand on police brutality and use of excessive force was an Ohio bar owner who posted to Facebook insisting he won’t show NBA games on TVs until James is “expelled” from the league — and also gave his own version of “shut up and dribble” saying no one wants their opinions. On Saturday, James caught wind of that story and offered a joking response that it’s a shame because he planned on watching Sunday’s Lakers-Mavs game from his bar.
Aww Damn! I was headed there to watch our game tonight and have a drink! Welp. https://t.co/RRfRksjckM
It wasn’t something James really needed to respond to — a bar owner getting mad online really shouldn’t have been a story national outlets were running with anyways — but if he did this is about as good a response as one could make. James has had sitting presidents go after him, so I don’t think an Ohio bar owner is really going to phase him too much.
Over the last week Scott Rudin has received something like a comeuppance. The Hollywood and Broadway producer is both legendary and notorious. On one hand, he gets tricky fare, such as No Country for Old Men, The Social Network, Lady Bird, and many more, made. On the other, it’s a well-known secret that he has long been abusive to his revolving door cast of young staffers — some of whom have finally been speaking to places like The Hollywood Reporter and Vulture about their traumatic experiences.
Now The New York Times has also published a lengthy Rudin exposé, focusing both on the abuse he brought upon his employees and even to name talent who worked with him. One of those is actress Rita Wilson. In 2015, she was set to appear in a Rudin production of Larry David’s play Fish in the Dark. But shortly before it bowed, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. According to Wilson, that didn’t sit well with Rudin:
When she told Mr. Rudin the news, she said, he complained that she would need time off during Tony voting season and asked to see her medical records, while Anna Shapiro, the director, grew upset about having to find a replacement.
A few days later, just before the curtains rose, Ms. Wilson received a call from her agent, saying her surgeon needed to call the insurance adjuster immediately, per Mr. Rudin’s demands. The memory still pains her.
“I felt like he was trying to find a way to fire me legally,” Ms. Wilson said. “He is the kind of person who makes someone feel worthless, unvaluable and replaceable.”
For the record, Shapiro did apologize to Wilson when she realized she had upset her, while a spokesperson for Rudin claimed it was her idea to open the show and then leave, and that both he and Shapiro didn’t want her to delay treatment. But that Rudin allegedly couldn’t keep his temper in check even around Tom Hanks’ wife says a lot.
There’s jaw-dropping stories in the Times piece, as well as in ones published by THR and Vulture, about the infamous producer. And now that the gates have opened after decades of silence and NDAs, there’s bound to be far more.
One of the best recent memories people have of DMX is his Verzuz battle with Snoop Doggz last July. The late rapper could be seen in high spirits as he and Snoop went back and forth, playing some of the most popular records from their catalogs. Alas, DMX tragically passed away less than a year later, after a reported drug overdose triggered a heart attack. In a recent interview with Hot97, Snoop explained that his battle with DMX is one of his favorite memories of him.
“He actually did his whole album at my studio when he finished Verzuz,” Snoop revealed during the conversation. “He never left, stayed in L.A. and rented my studio out and did his whole album. I cooked with him, I laid it out for him.” He added, “That was the best moment, that he felt comfortable enough to do his album at my spot, and didn’t leave L.A. until it was done.”
Snoop also spoke about another moment with DMX, one that involved old-school cars and music. “One night I’m sitting in the back and cuz jump in the passenger seat, and we’re just there chopping it up listening to old-school music,” he said. “If you know anything about DMX, you know he don’t f*ck with rap. That n***a don’t f*ck with no rap. So I’m playing all this old-school music, it’s turning this n***a on he’s singing all the words, he more into it than me!”
Snoop’s sit-down on Hot97 comes as DMX’s family prepares to hold memorial services. The first will be today, April 24 at 4 p.m. EST, while the second will occur on April 25 at 2:30 p.m. EST. Both events will be livestreamed, with the former airing on YouTube and the latter on BET.
Tobias Harris and Boban Marjanović are everyone’s favorite pair of NBA best friends. The former Pistons and Clippers teammates are off on their on in Philadelphia and Dallas, respectively, but have no fear: the Tobi and Bobi Show still goes on.
While Tobias is having a career-year to help the Sixers to the top-seed in the East, Boban is working to help the Mavs avoid the play-in out West, but the two were able to join forces once again in their new series of commercials with Goldfish.
On Friday, Harris and Marjanović spoke with Dime on behalf of Goldfish to talk about their partnership with the #GoForTheHandful challenge, and also talk about friendship, basketball, Boban’s love of soup, the Chicken Noodle Soup dance that started it all, that time Halle Berry said hi to Boban at the John Wick 3 premiere, and more.
This last year I think a lot of people have been kind of learning how to handle friendships remotely and not being able to see folks as often, and you guys have dealt with that in the NBA. Obviously you don’t get a chance to see each other during the season a lot; what have you guys learned about maintaining a friendship when you aren’t able to hang out in person all the time?
Boban: I think that like so far, right now it’s much easier because we have all the apps. Where they make like WhatsApp, Viber, FaceTime, you know like for like phones, it’s available. Internet like is our limit, you can do whatever you like, but back in the day it was like it was like we had to wait, I need to be staying home and wait for a call or to make a call to set up the meetings. Now it’s much easier. And basically, they say, what is far from you isn’t far from your heart. And I think that right now it’s not the thing, because like now if you have all these apps and all that stuff. And now I can stay in contact with my guy Tobias here, and really our friendship, it’s even more bigger and doesn’t matter if I live in Serbia, he live in Hawaii. Like whatever, we still stay in touch, we’ll still call, and we’ll always stay friends.
And then to talk a little basketball I mean, for you Tobias…
Boban: Wait wait wait, I want Tobias to answer this question [laughs].
Tobias: My friend Boban said everything.
Boban: OK [laughs].
Tobias, this has been a season that obviously for both you and the team in Philly that’s been tremendous. You’re playing with Doc again who’s a coach that you obviously had great success with in L.A., and what do you feel has really clicked for you and the Sixers team?
Tobias: It was a tough last year that we had, you know, playing, not playing. Going to the bubble then not having a full healthy team there as well, so I think it was just a new start for th group. For myself, knowing Doc and his system has helped this whole team, really, every guy, one through 15 — 17 really now, we have a lot of guys — but his style, his philosophy, how he views the game and how he wants the team to go out play. And just more defined roles, I mean, we came into this year and it was pretty much, hey we’re gonna play this type of style basketball. We’re gonna play as a team. We’ll go through Joel. We’re going to be the best defensive team in NBA, and guys roles are going to fall into place. For myself that was, you know — what was needed for this group was us understanding each other’s qualities on the floor and how to best fit together, and we’re able to do that. So it’s been successful, and we just got to keep at it.
Boban, for you watching Tobias from afar, seeing the criticism that he faced early in his time in Philly and seeing him have this kind of season. What do you think that says about about him as, as a person and a player to be able to weather that a little bit and then come out and have the year that he’s having?
Boban: I know Tobias and how he play and what he’s capable to do and I’m basically, like I know he can do that because he already done it. Like in this past year he produced his game every day like, you know, watching him, it’s some like new move and some great plays where he makes. And so I’m always looking like to see him on TV, to see him in person the other day, and of course shooting the commercial right now for Goldfish. You know, like it’s so fun, so fun enjoying him circling all over the internet, all over the TV, TikTok — 8.6 billion TikTokers. Everyone so far is loving it and like everything he is included with this is so good, and he has amazing year and I’m so proud of him and I know he’ll continue to play even more better and this his how he’s able to do and I’m not surprised, because he’s my guy.
And for you Boban, in Dallas it’s been a bit of an up and down year as you guys have had injuries and COVID situations. What’s the message in the locker room as you guys are pushing to kind of get one of those top six seeds and try to keep positive as y’all go into this this stretch run entering the playoffs?
Boban: Of course we have a couple up and downs because of coronavirus, a couple guys go here, couple guys go there. We have barely had a full team like one time or one game. We have, but you know like it’s really like then we were a missing couple guys like every game or so. And so far I think we need to keep like a great energy which is very important. But if we can play like we started to play like the last two games right now, of course it’s possible to be higher than a 6-seed and it’s like I think we do a great job and if we just play like how we play, playing every night coming out ready to play, and I think we will be good.
Tobias, Boban’s energy seems like something that everybody that’s on a team with him and really everybody in the NBA just just really loves being around. What does it mean having a guy like Boban in the locker room who brings that positivity constantly and what does that do for a team?
Tobias: Yeah, every team needs it. That guy that actually really controls the morale and the vibe of the team. You know, seasons are really long, they’re draining, every team goes through ups and downs, and you need positive people that are stable, like throughout a whole year. And that’s Boban, a stable guy. Comes in every day, really brings a joy and happiness to the game of basketball, and not allowing like — I know for him, he doesn’t get caught up in if he plays, if he doesn’t play, he’s gonna be the hardest worker on the team, work his butt off, and really bring people along to understand that, you know life is bigger than basketball. We’re really fortunate and have a great opportunity to play so that was a one thing I always loved about Bobi was, you know, he never had a bad day. I mean Stan van Gundy said that, he’s like Bobi never has a bad day and it’s a true thing he really doesn’t. He always has a good day, unless like you go to a restaurant and they don’t have soup then his day’s bad.
Boban: [laughs] The menu says soup, and they say no we don’t have soup. And everyone give it to me like, why you want to eat soup like that. I don’t know why, this is the only one thing, I want to eat soup. I understand that but, like, I like soup.
Tobias: He loves soup, actually.
What is your favorite soup?
Boban: Nothing, I eat all soups. All soup is my favorite soup. Like, of course, tomato, chicken noodle soup — oooh, chicken noodle soup that’s…
Tobias: Chicken noodle soup is actually his favorite.
Boban: And of course mushroom, all different stuff, but chicken soup is my favorite. Like this is how we started this is what we eat every single day. And this is because for the song, [begins singing] Chicken noodle soup. Chicken noodle soup.
Tobias: This is actually how we started all this [the Tobi and Bobi Show].
Boban: Tobias, do you remember in Toronto, we were getting ready to play a game there, I think we played with the Clippers in Toronto, and they really played that song?
Tobias: They played it.
Boban: They played it and at that time, everybody looked at me and Tobias, like…
Tobias: Yeah they looked at us like, ya gotta do it, ya gotta do it.
Boban: [laughs]
For you Boban, where does that positivity come from in you and kind of what is it that you have found this outlook on life to just stay positive and find that joy in every day?
Boban: I think that comes from the place when you were born. Like I’m coming from the small town, of course, coming from the family, to when I came here, like coming from my family, my parents, my family — like coming from my house right now my wife and my kids, mom, dad, sister, their kids. Everything can match, everybody has smiling face. I think this comes from like, I don’t know how to explain it, but I can say that, it’s like when you start, you appreciate your life and you’re supposed to appreciate your life because we do the best job in the world. And we enjoy it being allowed to play every night, play in front of cameras, play in front of fans and love playing basketball. Like, what you want more in your life?
Definitely. How did you come together here for this for this Goldfish partnership and kind of how did you to get on board with them for this #GoForTheHandful campaign?
Tobias: You know, Goldfish had reached out to both of us and really just came out and said, ‘Hey, we want to get the Bobi and Tobi back together.’ So for us it was a no brainer because we both enjoy the snack. It was a snack that I grew up on, you know, first, second grade I’ve taken Goldfish to school and my lunch bag. So then, once we sat down with the creative and the content team, they had this amazing challenge and the biggest thing for us was doing something that really brought people together, was going to be smart, and just allow people to just be active at the same time, of enjoying something. I mean, Goldfish is such a historic snack and brand that people know about. So for us, we were really humbled to get the opportunity and when we were on set, we’re just taking it all in and enjoying the process of filming this commercial and seeing it. And we wanted perfection, we really did. When we were on the camera we really wanted our spots and our scenes to look really clean cut, and they did. And the people love it, the people enjoy it. I mean, Boban, how many TikTok impressions do we got?
Boban: 8.6 BILLLLLIIIIIIOOOOOOOONNNNNNN.
Tobias: 8.6 billion, I mean people are going crazy over this challenge it’s historic.
Boban: It’s amazing, yeah.
I know there’s just a couple of days less left with the challenge, but how can how can folks get involved in and get in on those 8.6 billion impressions that y’all have?
Tobias: Yeah, #GoForTheHandful. Go to the store, get you a box of Goldfish, see how many you can get. Try to beat me, you may be able to, I got 73, but it’s just challenge, invite your friends to do it as well.
Boban: And it’s nice prizes just know this.
Boban, you have the acting experience of the two of you with your performance in John Wick 3. What was the advice that you were giving Tobias about being on set and being on camera as a veteran that you are?
Boban: Tobias already know that. We do Bobi and Tobi show, he does a couple commercial and, you know, I saw how he tried and I think he is already experienced. You know like I was thinking, I figured out for myself that I like to be in front of the camera. I didn’t know why, but they make me so happy. Before it was scary like, the lens from the camera then they scare you, but now like I really like it when it’s a camera there. I enjoy a lot to be around.
Tobias, one last thing, I mentioned the John Wick 3 appearance from from Bobi. What what was your review of his of his debut on the big screen?
Tobias: [sighs] My friend got his ass kicked. They did a good job [laughs]. He did a good job. You know it was awesome because — so like when we went to the premiere this is how I knew he did amazing job, we went to the premiere —
Boban: And Halle Berry say hi to us.
Tobias: Say it again?
Boban: When Halle Berry say hi to us.
Tobias: Yeeeeeah. Halle Berry, she knew Bobi, she knew Bobi. She was like “Boban heeyyyyy!” I was like, dang.
Boban: [laughs]
Tobias: But one thing I love about being on the premiere was that everybody knew and everybody like was going up to Bobi, like, ‘Hey, you did such a great job, such great job.’ Like, these really big time actors like Halle Berry, etc. down the line, and I was like man, that’s awesome. Like it’s your first movie and you’re getting your flowers from all these other people, it was a it was a cool thing to witness and be there like, as a friend, it was awesome.
Boban: Thank you, Tobias, because you support me that time and go with me.
While some people are still trying to wrap their heads around what NFTs even are, artists from all over the music world have been quick to take advantage of this growing digital realm. Names like Doja Cat, Jack White, and The Weeknd have all released NFTs of their own. Now Eminem is joining in on the fun. The rapper announced his own line of digital collectables after a Saturday Night Live segment that saw Jack Harlow and cast members explaining what NFTs are through a rap over the Detroit native’s classic song “Without Me.” Now, a day before he drops his line, Eminem has finally revealed what it will contain.
The upcoming release, which drops Sunday, April 25, is a part of an event Eminem has dubbed “Shady Con,” in collaboration with NFT marketplace NFT Gateway. He’ll release original instrumental beats, digital comics, and action figures. The latter will come in three forms, each capturing various Eminem’s rap personas: Marshall Mathers, Slim Shady, and Eminem himself.
“I’ve been collecting since I was a kid, everything from comic books to baseball cards to toys, as well as every rap album on cassette I could get my hands on,” Eminem said on his website. “Not much has changed for me as an adult…I’ve attempted to recreate some of those collections from that time in my life, and I know I’m not alone. I wanted to give this drop the same vibe of, ‘Oh, man I gotta get just that one or maybe even the whole set!’ It’s been a lot of fun coming up with ideas from my own collecting passion.”

On Friday, Joy Behar got into some trouble after she misgendered athlete-turned-reality TV star-turned-gubernatorial candidate Caitlyn Jenner on The View. Three times Behar called Jenner — who transitioned to a woman in 2015 and has become a trans rights activist ever since — “him,” all while critiquing her recently announced run for governor of California. When the show came back after a commercial break, Behar issued a formal apology. And on Saturday morning, Jenner accepted it.
Don’t sweat it, @JoyVBehar. I’m not about cancel culture. I know where your heart is. California has bigger issues than pronouns. https://t.co/epPedRAjW8
“Don’t sweat it, @JoyVBehar,” Jenner wrote on Twitter. “I’m not about cancel culture. I know where your heart is. California has bigger issues than pronouns.”
In the segment Friday, Behar laid into Jenner, a noted Repiblican, for hiring Brad Parscale, who served as senior adviser to Donald Trump’s failed 2020 re-election campaign. “He’s got this guy Brad Parscale running his campaign. What do you think about that?” Behar said. “I mean, that guy was accused of using campaign funds to enrich himself. That’s who is running his campaign — or her campaign, rather.”
Behar did catch herself at the end there, but she gave a big apology when the show returned. “So first of all let me apologize for my pronoun mixup. I think I just didn’t get enough sleep last night,” Behar said. “I had no intention of mixing them up, and I tried to correct it immediately, but whatever, it just came out. So I’m sorry if anybody was upset by that.”
Last summer, Logic walked away from the rap game with the release of his sixth album No Pressure. But rappers who say they’re retiring usually come back. Such as the case here. He came back quick, first teaming up with Juicy J for their collaboration “1995,” and then did the solo “Tired In Malibu.” Some even believed that the rapper’s new artist, Doctor Destruction, was actually Logic in disguise. While that has yet to be proven true or not, Logic is clearly back in action, as he announced he and producer Madlib have joined forces to form a new duo called MadGic.
The news arrived along with their first song, “Mars Only Pt. 3.” It sees Logic flexing his lyricism over a boom-bap beat provided by Madlib, even teasing a full album. “Logic and Madlib is MadGic, your catalogue tragic / F*ck a underground, f*ck a pop sound,” he raps. “Made this whole album in a lockdown, hip hop is our town / Hairline like Doc Brown but I’m killin’ it.”
Before the MadGic announcement, Logic joked during an interview with his friend Nick Huff Barili that Madlib was the only person that could make him reconsider retirement. By the looks of it, that’s exactly what happened.
You can listen to ‘Mars Only Pt. 3’ in the video above.
