Kid Cudi Was Comfortable Wearing A Dress On ‘SNL’ Despite Knowing ‘It Would Piss Some People Off’

Months after sharing his most recent album, Man On The Moon III: The Chosen, Kid Cudi brought his talents to Saturday Night Live for a pair of performances. During the show, he performed “Sad People” and “Tequila Shots”, and while fans were happy to catch a live set from the rapper, Cudi’s decision to wear a dress while he rapped “Sad People” caught a lot of attention. It was designed by Virgil Abloh and made to resemble the dress Kurt Cobain famously once wore on the show. During a recent episode of LeBron James’ HBO show, The Shop: Uninterrupted, the rapper explained why he wore it and how it all came together.

SNL comes my way, so I immediately thought like, oh this would be the perfect opportunity to wear a dress,” he revealed on the show. “But, do I go to a store and just buy something off the rack, or do I go get somebody to make me some sh*t?”

After looking around for the perfect dress, he decided that having one customized for him would be the better move.

“I was at this point where I was looking on my phone, kind of looking at all these different stores and looking at dresses,” he added. “I was just like, this is cute, this is cute. And then I finally realized, yo, I’m gonna get Virgil to do this. I’m gonna see if he has time, ‘cause he’s crazy [busy], he’s got a lot of things he’s doing.” He continued, “And he hit me right back and was like, ‘Yes, let’s go. I got prints, what you want?’ I was like, alright, I want something floral, like a sundress. He’s like, ‘Perfect.’ He sent me prints like two seconds later. He had them sh*ts on deck.

Cudi was also asked if he was worried about the possible backlash in response to him wearing the dress, but the rapper made it clear that he was not.

I’ve never been someone who’s like thinking about the backlash. I don’t give a f*ck about what anyone thinks. You can’t when you’re doing this sh*t. I knew it would piss some people off, but I love that. Because hip-hop is so weird about sh*t. I’ve already seen people making YouTube videos where they’re just strictly talking about me and this dress. Like grown men angry, grown Black men angry. ‘He’s doing something against men and masculinity, it’s a big thing going on…’ And I just be like, yo, this is so funny, this is crazy that I’ve stirred it up like this.

You can watch a clip of Cudi talking about the dress in the video above.

Bill Maher Tried To Convince Quentin Tarantino Not To Retire From Filmmaking On ‘Real Time’

Count Bill Maher among the many who hope Quentin Tarantino’s movie career doesn’t end after his next film. The host of Real Time did his best to convince the director that things don’t have to end for him in Hollywood once his next movie,

Tarantino was on the show to promote his new Once Upon A Time In Hollywood book, which is based on the movie he made in 2019. But Maher essentially used it as a prop to illustrate not only how much he loved the film, but as proof that Tarantino’s career should be far from over.

“To me, your latest one is your peak. This is my favorite of all-time.” Maher said. “So what is this nonsense that you’re only going to make one more movie?”

Tarantino hesitated, trying to figure out exactly what to say while Maher flat-out said it’s a “bad idea.”

“You’re too young to quit, and you’re at the top of your game,” Maher said. To which Tarantino said “that’s why I want to quit.”

The host asked Tarantino how he knew it was time while the audience cheered for Maher.

“Because I know film history, and here on in directors do not get better,” he said. Maher called that “a terrible idea” and scolded him for comparing himself to others rather than evaluating his own work.

“I don’t have a reason that I want to say out loud that’s going to win any argument in the court of public opinion or the Supreme Court or anything like that,” Tarantino countered. “But it is, you know, at the same time, working for 30 years, doing as many movies as I’ve done — which is not as many as other people — that’s a long career.

“And I’ve given it everything I have,” he continued. “I’ve given it every single, solitary thing I have.”

Maher said that he’ll be “bored” in retirement, and tried his best to relate to the director’s sense of history and that you “acquire skills” as you get more experience to make movies better. Interestingly, Tarantino admits that he briefly thought about remaking Reservoir Dogs as his final movie, adding that “I won’t do it, Internet” before people get too excited about the possibility.

The rest of the conversation is equally fascinating but Maher’s discussion about his career, and his desire for it not to end, will certainly resonate with many of the filmmaker’s biggest fans.

The Trail Blazers Have Reportedly Hired Chauncey Billups As Their Next Head Coach

The NBA’s coaching carousel has begun moving quickly, with Boston (Ime Udoka), Indiana (Rick Carlisle), and Dallas (Jason Kidd) all filling their vacancies this week. That left Portland, New Orleans, Washington, and Orlando as the four remaining open jobs, and on Friday night, the Trail Blazers made their move in hiring Chauncey Billups from the Clippers staff.

It had been reported earlier in the evening that Billups had emerged as the frontrunner — which wasn’t a surprise given the initial reporting indicated Damian Lillard’s preference was either Jason Kidd or Billups — and the two sides moved quickly to finalize a deal. Billups has been on the short list for a number of jobs in the past and it was considered a matter of when, not if, he would get a head coaching job — it also wasn’t long ago he was considered a candidate for top front office positions as well.

The 2004 NBA champion with the Detroit Pistons is a well-regarded basketball mind and given his experience as a championship point guard, it’s not a surprise that the Blazers would look to him to help guide their team led by a superstar point guard. Now the Blazers can move ahead on the rest of their offseason, which could see a rather significant shakeup to the roster we saw exit the first round a month ago. With Billups on board, they can begin focusing on those efforts, although Billups has more pressing matters at hand with the Clippers down 2-1 in the Western Conference Finals. Once he’s in Portland, however, it will be all hands on deck to evaluate the needs of the roster and where they can go on draft night and beyond to try and finally build a title contender around Lillard.

The Bucks Demolished The Hawks To Even The Eastern Conference Finals At 1-1

Milwaukee rolled over the Hawks in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, 125-91, responding in impressive fashion to even the series at 1-1. As he has for much of the playoffs, Giannis Antetokounmpo rose to the occasion to open the night. After the Hawks stole one on the road to open the series, and Giannis came out hyper-aggressive in response, putting up a 17-7-5 line in the first half alone.

The Bucks were dominant on both ends, keeping the Hawks to just 42 percent shooting and turning defense and missed shots into points on the other end. Aside from a huge Giannis half, the other big difference for Milwaukee was the emergence of Bobby Portis, as he rewarded the Bucks’ coaching staff’s trust with seven points in his first 10 minutes.

But for the most part, Milwaukee just played an extremely high-level of its usual style, with Brook Lopez defending the rim much better than he did in Game 1 while also making threes and rebounding, and Khris Middleton playing well enough on both ends to keep the Hawks honest.

After a 26-5 run (including a 20-0 stretch), the Bucks went into halftime with a 77-45 lead.

On the Hawks’ side, Trae Young started the game 1-for-7, clearly frustrated by Jrue Holiday’s tight defense and Milwaukee’s overall fight. Young also had eight turnovers in the first half. We also saw Bogdan Bogdanovic back in the starting lineup after he missed Game 1, and the return of Cam Reddish, who appeared for the first time since Feb. 21.

To open the third quarter, the Bucks kept their foot on the gas, with Giannis scoring eight quick points and their defense continuing to squelch out any Atlanta momentum. Early in the period, Young also tied his career high with nine turnovers, a signal of how much Milwaukee stymied Atlanta’s offense.

The only question left to be answered by the time the fourth rolled around was whether Giannis, Middleton and Holiday would play at all, and the answer turned out to be no. But to keep the silliness going, we did get a highlight that didn’t count, from Thanasis Antetokounmpo.

The series heads to Atlanta on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. EST.

Chauncey Billups Is Reportedly The Frontrunner To Be The Next Head Coach In Portland

Soon after Dallas moved to hire the candidate that Portland star Damian Lillard went out on a limb to talk up in the media, the Trail Blazers seem to have responded by becoming more aggressive in their courtship of Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups.

Initially after Portland decided to part ways with Terry Stotts shortly after their first-round loss to the Nuggets, Lillard made it known that he wanted Kidd to replace Stotts. However, Kidd would soon drop out of the running, leaving the Trail Blazers without a clear frontrunner, though Lillard had also named Billups as someone he’d like. According to a new report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, along with Sam Amick and Shams Charania of The Athletic, all that changed late Friday when Billups became the lead candidate for the job.

Billups brings little coaching experience but enormous pedigree as the 2004 NBA Finals MVP. He was previously a serious candidate to run the Cavaliers’ front office as well as for a head coaching job in Indiana before taking a gig as an assistant on Tyronn Lue’s Clippers staff, where he is currently a key voice on a stacked staff for a conference finalist team.

Much is still expected to be explored in Portland, including the viability of the Lillard-CJ McCollum backcourt and looming free agency decisions on Zach Collins and Norman Powell.

Thomas S. Moore’s Port Cask-Finished Bourbon Hits The Sweet-Spice Goldilock’s Zone

Barton 1792 Distilling goes all the way back to Thomas S. Moore founding the distillery in 1879. Today, the distillery is part of the famed Sazerac Company that also operates key bourbon stills at places like Buffalo Trace, among many others. This is all to say that there’s a lot of heritage at play with these stills and warehouses and it’s all run by a company that cares deeply about Kentucky’s bourbon heritage.

That leads us to a new flight of releases that dropped at the beginning of the year from Barton 1792. The Thomas S. Moore line is a collection of three bourbons with “Extended Cask Finishes.” There’s a Cognac and a Chardonnay cask finish that we’ll get to in due time, but today we’re talking about their “Finished in in Port Casks” bourbon.

With cask finishing becoming all the rage in the bourbon scene lately (it’s been a trend off-and-on for decades), this new expression from Barton feels fresh-yet-familiar. Let’s dive in and see what’s in the bottle.

Thomas S. Moore Finished In Port Casks

Sazerac Company

ABV: 49.45%

Average Price: $80

The Whiskey:

Barton 1792 doesn’t release their mash bills to the public. Though it’s very likely this is a low-rye bourbon mash. The barrels are pulled from various, undisclosed age ranges and vatted. That juice then goes into ex-port casks for an additional maturation of one to three years. That whiskey is then married, slightly proofed, and bottled.

Tasting Notes:

The nose is beautiful — rich with hints of red berries, sweet and dry dates, a touch of vanilla tobacco, and a whisper of soft leather. The palate has a jammy presence with a plum compote spiked with cloves and allspice next to a touch of port-soaked cedar planks, vanilla cream, sultanas, and … I want to say … mulled wine cinnamon sticks. That spice does start to build towards the medium-length finish but doesn’t overheat. The fade is nice and mellow with more dried and red fruit leading towards a creamy veneer of spicy vanilla custard with a very distant tobacco vibe on the end of the tail.

The Bottle:

The design of the bottles is long and angular and pretty unique for bourbon. It definitely has an art-deco vibe with bespoke edges and length. The label is subtle with an embossed horse, drawing your eye. Overall, this is a classy bottle that deserves a prime spot on your bar cart.

Bottom Line:

This was such a pleasant surprise. It’s subtle and pairs sweet and spice beautifully while still packing smooth flavors that really hit the nail on the head. There are no rough edges and it delivers what it promises on the label. It’s also very sippable neat.

Rating:

90/100 — This is a damn fine bourbon. It’s rewarding while being very easy to drink. I’ll definitely be pouring another dram of this soon.

The Creator Of ‘The X-Files’ Is Skeptical Of The Long-Delayed, Just-Released Official UFO Report

The truth may be out there, but don’t expect to find it in the latest government report about unidentified flying objects. That’s according to the X-Files creator, at least, after the US government released a long-awaited report about objects no one seems to understand being spotted over the course of the last few decades.

As The New York Times detailed, Friday saw a new government report about unexplained phenomena that, well, remains unexplained despite the long-awaited details about unexplained sightings in the atmosphere. The conclusion, while extremely unsatisfying to anyone who wants a definitive answer about whether Earth has been visited by extraterrestrials, is that no one really knows anything for sure.

A total of 143 reports gathered since 2004 remain unexplained, the document released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said. Of those, 21 reports of unknown phenomena, involving 18 episodes, possibly demonstrate technological capabilities that are unknown to the United States: objects moving without observable propulsion or with rapid acceleration that is believed to be beyond the capabilities of Russia, China or other terrestrial nations.

There is no evidence that any of the episodes involve secret American weapons programs, unknown technology from Russia or China or extraterrestrial visitations. But the government report did not rule out those explanations.

That’s not good enough for Chris Carter, the screenwriter who created the X-Files. He also wrote in the New York Times on Friday that he’s “skeptical” of this new report on potential life outside of Earth coming here to check things out. His piece discusses many of the uncertainties of the report’s release, but mostly concludes (correctly) that we just probably wouldn’t get a strong answer one way or the other unless there’s a true smoking gun so to speak.

I think in all likelihood this report will come and go, and with it the mainstream chatter around U.F.O.s, until definitive proof is exposed. A planet that can’t come together on climate change or a global pandemic might not pay much attention even if wreckage or an alien corpse is discovered. The culture wars alone might eclipse it, so rabidly are we in their grips.

This comes after a report earlier in the month about the objects that said there was no evidence of extraterrestrial life being the explanation for what military pilots have seen. Barack Obama himself hasn’t shut the book on alien activity, mind you, so perhaps we should keep an open mind about it all. But it’s clear no one is willing to admit they know for sure what’s going on here just yet.

The Best New Hip-Hop Hip-Hop This Week

The best new hip-hop this week includes albums, videos, and songs from Doja Cat, Tyler The Creator, and more.

This week saw the releases of Jaden’s “Bye,” Jazz Carter and Buddy’s “Two Of Em,” Mick Jenkins’ “Truffles,” Joyner Lucas’ “Legend” with Rick Ross, Kyle’s “Love Me Like You Say You Love Me,” Big Sean’s “Freshman 10 Freestyle,” Rexx Life Raj’s “Lockheed Martin,” and EST Gee’s “Capitol 1,” along with the releases listed below.

Here is the best of hip-hop this week ending March 19, 2021.

Albums/EPs/Mixtapes

Doja Cat — Planet Her

Sure, it’s not technically a hip-hop album, any more than it is strictly pop, dance, or R&B. But Doja’s third effort features some of her sharpest rapping, tapping into a number of contemporary styles from Cloud rap to EDM, always with an eyebrow-raising punchline or clever twist on a familiar cadence. This is creativity personified; what’s more hip-hop than that?

Juicy J — The Hustle Still Continues [Deluxe]

Juicy has evolved over time into a shepherd and mentor of the modern-day, hedonistic trap rap scenes that take so much inspiration from his work with Three Six Mafia. This deluxe version of his 2020 album adds an astonishing number of new songs and collaborators, bringing in bright new stars like Lil Baby, Pooh Shiesty, and Rico Nasty.

MIKE — Disco!

Back in the late ’90s, MIKE would have been considered a backpacker. Now, he’s something of a contrarian presence, the rare traditionalist who isn’t pursuing an agenda to “bring back real hip-hop,’ instead locking in on his own iconoclastic trajectory of rebellious super rhyming style.

Ski Mask The Slump God — Sin City

The South Florida firestarter returns after a long hiatus to resume his campaign of punk-rap terror in a world in which he’s less of an exception than the prototype of an entire movement — a movement that’s closer to the mainstream than ever before.

Tyler The Creator — Call Me If You Get Lost

Tyler delivers his own version of DJ Drama’s popular Gangsta Grillz mixtape series, splitting the difference between gruff-voiced, braggadocious rhymes and the tender soul of Igor and Flower Boy. The effect is intoxicating.

Singles/Videos

ASAP TyY — “1990”

Yes, I know: There are soooo many members of ASAP Mob, you probably forgot all about TyY. Well, shame on you, because he’s every bit as charismatic and clever as his more mainstream favorite homeboys.

Beanz — “As Seen On TV” Feat. Benny The Butcher

Beanz, a truly underrated rapper, gets to shine alongside one of the more popular purveyors of straight-up, bruising bars, which may lead to her finally receiving her due when her debut album Tables Turn drops this summer.

Bfb Da Packman — “Weekend At Solomon’s”

Dropping his debut album this week, the hilarious Flint, MI rapper employs a number of hip-hop’s most hyped names on the tracklist, from XXL Freshman Coi Leray to standup comic turned rapper Zack Fox, but he goes for dolo here, and this track is all the more entertaining for it.

BlueBucksClan — “Rap City”

LA party rap duo BlueBucks has taken the city by storm, between their infectious beat choices and sports-related rap references, they’ve quickly become a favorite of the block party/house party set — whichever set they claim.

KenTheMan — “I’m Perfect”

Look at that title. KenTheMan’s name has been buzzing on the social media streets as the successor to the crown passed from Cardi to Megan to Latto to Flo Milli, and this track is the — ahem — perfect example of why.

Some Drama Between ‘Supernatural’ Brothers Jared Padalecki And Jensen Ackles Is Sparking Fights Among Fans

A recently announced Supernatural spinoff has reignited the show’s passionate fandom for the worst. Earlier this week, Supernatural bad boy Jensen Ackles announced he and his wife-turned-co-star Danneel Ackles have begun work on a prequel to the show called The Winchesters. According to Deadline’s report, the upcoming show follows main characters Dean (Jensen) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) Winchester’s parents John and Mary as it recounts the “epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.” Told from the perspective of Dean, Jensen naturally has a pretty big role in both the creation of the show and the show itself.

However, not only is Jensen’s on-screen brother played by Padalecki not appearing in the show, he apparently wasn’t even told it was happening.

At first, fans were quick to dismiss the tweet as a merely a strange joke. However, Padalecki doubled-down on his statement, replying to a fan message stating the tweet “has GOTTA be a bad joke” with “No. It’s not. This is the first I’ve heard about it. I’m gutted.” Padalecki further expressed his disappointment — and anger — in a since-deleted tweet directed at Robbie Thompson, the Supernatural co-executive producer who will be working alongside Jensen on The Winchesters. In his tweet, he told Thompson that his involvement and the subsequent removal of Padalecki’s character was a “truly awful thing” before saying “#Bravo you coward.”

Not only did drama quickly escalate within the Supernatural cast, but the community as well. Padalecki took to Twitter to beg fans to “please PLEASE don’t send any hate or threats. I care deeply about everybody involved and would be in true misery if any of them were harmed or threatened.” However, fans are still tweeting about the incident and quite clearly picking sides.

However, despite fans adding fuel to the fire, as of today Ackles and Padalecki have seemingly put the incident behind them after a “great talk.” Turns out that much like real siblings, on-screen ones also get into their fair share of squabbles and still walk away from the scrap thick as a pair of demon-hunting thieves.

If The Winchesters goes forward after all this drama, the CW will have both Ackles and Padalecki back on the network with Jensen on The Wincheters and Padalecki on a Walker, Texas Ranger reboot simply called Walker. However, it’s worth noting that even though Supernatural is the longest-running sci-fi/genre series in the history of American broadcast television, The CW has made two previous attempts to launch a Supernatural spinoff — first with Bloodlines and second with Wayward Sisters — with no success. Here’s hoping The Winchesters sees the light of day and the Supernatural community can put this whole thing behind them.
