Ted Nugent Bleating Like A Sheep At The Vaccinated (After He ‘Thought I Was Dying’ While Having COVID) Is Beyond Parody

The Nooge is back after a debilitating episode of COVID and, naturally, he’s got no respect for the vaccinated. What else could one possibly expect from the guy who proudly declared that he loved to watch Megyn Kelly during naked gun-cleaning sessions despite being disappointed by her old Trump beef? Ted Nugent is keeping things consistent, for himself (that is to say, inconsistent) by completely disregarding his horrific experience with the coronavirus, which he previously described as, “My God, what a pain in the ass. I literally could hardly crawl out of bed the last few days.”

How does Ted feel now? Well, he’s still as anti-vaxxing as his far-right reputation would indicate. The Nooge appeared on PBS’ Off The Record, where he literally bleated like a sheep. Yep, he thanked host Tim Skubick for “the opportunity to speak to the people that went ahead and got the jab. I speak their language. I will speak to them thusly: Baaaaaaaaaaah.”

When asked by Skubick if the “millions of people who got the shots” are “just stupid,” Ted had one word: “Yup.”

It must be noted that, although this is the first time that Nugent has imitated livestock on national television, he’s criticized vaccines on previous occasions. He’s been quite upset about how “nobody knows what’s in it,” even though the CDC and Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson have all been very upfront about what’s in their COVID jabs.

However and as Mediaite notes, Ted is all kinds of mad because, as he told Skubick, he feels, “The only ones that are taking it are either gullible or being forced because they’re gonna lose their job, lose their life, and lose their livelihood.” He characterized this as an “experimental shot” and insisted, “I don’t believe it’s a vaccine.” (Says the dude who bleated like a sheep on TV.)

Alleged Creep/Self-Proclaimed Murderer Corey Lewandowski Reportedly Refused To Resign From Trump’s PAC Unless He Was Paid Six Figures

When Donald Trump cuts you out of his inner circle for being a total creep (and possible murderer), you know you’ve got problems. But if you’re Total Creep™ Corey Lewandowski, you reportedly use the fact that no one wants you around to get paid to disappear. According to the Daily Beast, Lewandowski—a longtime Trump stooge who was got the official boot from MAGA-land about a week ago, after a major GOP donor accused him of sexual assault and stalking—attempted to leverage his ouster to squeeze one last paycheck out of Make America Great Again Action, the well-funded Trump super PAC he oversaw. It… didn’t work out the way that Lewandowski had hoped.

As Asawin Suebsaeng and Roger Sollenberger wrote for Daily Beast:

Lewandowski, at first privately and then publicly through a lawyer, denied the details of the alleged incident. When that didn’t work, he resisted leaving. Lewandowski then subsequently settled on pitching Trumpworld a not-so-modest proposal: in exchange for his resignation, the super PAC and the pro-Trump team would pay him a large sum of money to go away. Two of the knowledgeable sources said the former 2016 Trump campaign manager’s demand was for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

But even though that Lewandowski super PAC—called Make America Great Again Action—currently sits on $6.58 million, mostly from Trump megadonors, he didn’t have the leverage he seemed to think he had. His fellow Trump lieutenants gave him a hard no.

“It doesn’t matter if he’d asked for five dollars, it wasn’t going to happen,” one individual familiar with the situation noted bluntly.

While Trump had to be convinced to dump Lewandowski in the first place, the former president apparently drew a hard line when it came to parting with even one dollar of the cash in that super PAC. According to Daily Beast, “The twice-impeached ex-president didn’t want to see Lewandowski slinking away with any of that money—which Trump views as his money, despite the patina of distance that is legally required between candidates and super PACs.”

So Team Trump did what they do best: Abandoned ship entirely. After cutting ties with Lewandowski they set up a new super PAC—this one called Make America Great Again, Again!, which they clearly put a lot of thought into—then sent out a press release announcing its existence and declaring it “the ONLY Trump approved Super PAC.”

Neither Lewandowski nor his lawyers responded to Daily Beast’s request for comment.

Craft Beer Releases To Chase Down This October

October is a great month for craft beer. This is when the plethora of fall launches from the past two months meet with the upcoming winter drops sure dominate through the holiday season and push us into the new year. Plus, Oktoberfest and pumpkin ales have been on the shelf for two months now, yet still remain very present — well, the pumpkin ales do. Oktoberfest season is officially over so grab the last of those today if you still have a hankering.

With winter coming, we’re getting amped-up lagers, spiced ales, the hoppiest of IPAs, the haziest juice bombs, and some stouts as dark as the darkest black hole in the cosmos. What a time to be a beer drinker?!

Hopefully, the eight beers we’re giving love to this month will pique your interest and inspire you to explore exciting taprooms, beer halls, and breweries in your own neck of the woods. These picks represent regional craft beer releases from makers that we vouch for, along with some seasonally released bottles that we’ve been looking forward to trying again. Click on those prices if you want to give them a try!

PACIFIC NORTHWEST DROP: Deschutes Jubelale

Deschutes

ABV: 6.7%

Average Price: $12 (six-pack)

The Beer:

No list of October beers would be complete without Oregon’s Jubelale. The brew is a masterful mix of five malt and five hop varieties with a lean towards classic English dark ale. The finished product is the gold standard of an American winter warmer.

Tasting Notes:

This is a big beer with big notes of chocolate roasted malts next to subtle Christmas spices and clear toffee sweetness. Those sweet malts shine brightly as the spices offer a great counterpoint with a touch of hoppiness on the backend. The sip leans into the malts with a return of rich cacao powder on the final notes.

Bottom Line:

We don’t even care if the holidays are still well over a month-plus away. The faster we can get to the end of this year, the better. Thankfully, there’ll be plenty of this fine dark ale to help us get there.

SOUTHWEST DROP: Sierra Nevada Barrel-Aged Narwahl Imperial Stout

Sierra Nevada

ABV: 11.9%

Average Price: $20 (four-pack)

The Beer:

Sierra Nevada’s Narwahl is an expertly made stout that leans into heavily roasted honey and chocolate malts. That beer is then loaded into former bourbon barrels and left to rest for over a year in Sierra Nevada’s barrelhouse. The amped-up yet refined results are then bottled, allowing you to further age the beer in your own cellars. Though, now you can buy the beer in tall-boy cans to enjoy right now, if that’s your jam.

Tasting Notes:

Notes of oily espresso beans, bitter cacao, and darkly roasted grains are at the forefront of this brew. The cacao fades as a buttery, creamy nature brings along a rich dark chocolate tone alongside that coffee bitterness and malty cracker base. The hops kick in but never overpower that bitter-roasted nature of the brew.

Bottom Line:

I cracked open one of these from 2016 and it was magical. That being said, I also tried the can version recently and it was also a killer brew. Either way, now’s the time to crack one or two of these open while the rain patters outside.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN DROP: Upslope Spruce Tip IPA

Upslope

ABV: 7.5%

Average Price: $10 (six-pack)

The Beer:

It’s that time of year again and Spruce Tip IPA from Colorado’s Upslope is back on shelves. The brew has a subtle malt base that’s amped with Cascade and Simcoe hops. Then the beer is spiked with wild spruce tips from the Rockies to add a real wild and deep vibe to the beer.

Tasting Notes:

Bright, alive pine shines on the nose with a hint of candied orange. The malts create a solid foundation for the spruce/forest feel of the beer. There’s an earthiness to the crisp sip that blends well with the piney nature of the spruce.

Bottom Line:

This is one of my personal favorite wintry IPAs. It’s so light and crisp without being a hop punch to the face. It’s definitely worth tracking down a sixer for the fridge.

SOUTHERN DROP: Cigar City Spanish Cedar Jai Alai

Cigar City

ABV: 7.5%

Average Price: $12 (four-pack)

The Beer:

This is an interesting brew from down in Florida. The brewmasters at Cigar City have taken their very fruity hop-bomb Jai Alai IPA and rested it with staves of Spanish cedar to recreate a classic humidor vibe in the beer. And … it works.

Tasting Notes:

The orange citrus of the IPA is still very present on the nose and taste but is now supported by a clear sense of cracked black pepper, potpourri, and a touch of caramel malts. Those malts help drive the taste while the dried florals and peppery spice offer a nice counterpoint to the bright yet oily citrus-infused cedar planks, creating a deep wintry vibe.

Bottom Line:

This really feels like you’re drinking a holiday decoration display with a smoker puffing away next to candied oranges and spicy mulled wine.

MIDWEST DROP: Bell’s Cherry Stout

Bells

ABV: 7%

Average Price: $16 (six-pack)

The Beer:

It’s always great to see Bell’s Cherry Stout back on shelves. The beer starts off as a malty and chocolatey stout that’s then loaded with tart and dark Montmorency cherries from Traverse, Michigan.

Tasting Notes:

Imagine a brandy-soaked tart-yet-candied cherry covered in deeply rich and dark chocolate with a pinch of sea salt and vanilla and you’ll be on the right track. The sourness of the cherries cut through the sweetness on the palate with a bright burst of tart next to those dark chocolate malts and espresso bean bitter notes.

Bottom Line:

Dark chocolate and cherry sour should always be together. This is a great example of a unique and very American-crafty beer that just hits right this time of year.

NORTHEAST DROP: Samuel Adams Jack-O Pumpkin Ale

Samuel Adams

ABV: 4.4%

Average Price: $12 (six-pack)

The Beer:

Okay, one last pumpkin ale to toast out the season. Samuel Adams’ Jack-O is a very sessionable pumpkin ale that amps up the fruit by adding tons of savory pumpkin with just the right amount of nutmeg and cinnamon. It’s late fall in a bottle, folks.

Tasting Notes:

This opens with a pumpkin pie vibe that drives the whole experience. The spices kick up on the palate with a lean towards the nutmeg as the savory aspects of the pumpkin drive the taste away from the sweeter ends of the malts. The overall vibe is very “pumpkin pie” but in the sense of a homemade pie that you added a little salt to to keep the overly sweet aspects at bay.

Bottom Line:

This is a good cooking beer. Drink it while you’re cooking a big holiday meal. Or, use it to make a beer-y cheese dip or glaze for smoked turkey or something like that.

WILD CARD DROP: Stone Enjoy By 10.31.21 Hazy IPA

Stone

ABV: 9.4%

Average Price: $18 (six-pack)

The Beer:

It’s another year and that means it’s time for another Halloween-inspired IPA from Stone’s “Enjoy By” series. This year’s entry is a double hazy IPA that’s crammed with Citra, Mosaic, Amarillo and Nelson Sauvin hops. We’re sure there are some malts in there too, but that’s not why we’re drinking a Stone IPA.

Tasting Notes:

This is a tropical fruit bomb, through and through. The nice thing about this beer though, is that it leans away from the overly sweet fruits and has a nice savory and dry throughline that touches more on papaya and winter squash while the sweeter orange citrus is more relegated to an essence. The bitterness is strong, sure. But the beer reads more like a fruit salad that focuses on melon more than pineapple.

Bottom Line:

This is pretty bold and will knock your socks off with its ABVs. It’s also dialed into the current season, which is nice for a must-drink-this-month beer.

INTERNATIONAL PICK OF THE MONTH: De La Senne Taras Boulba

Brasserie de la Senne

ABV: 4.5%

Average Price: $4 (11-oz. bottle)

The Beer:

This Belgium Blonde ale is great year-round. But, there’s something about right now — as the rain starts falling more regularly — that just screams “It’s time for Belgian beers!” The light-ish pale ale is amped up with hops that ring with winter spices and orange citrus, adding to the “now” of this sip.

Tasting Notes:

That citrus is what comes through on the nose, with a sense of orange oils on dry wood next to grapefruit pith with a hint of old hay bales lurking in the background. The taste carries on in that direction while the wood takes on a very mild dark spice with hints of brewer’s yeast, wheat cookies, and a hint of an apple core. The overall experience feels very fall/winter from start to finish.

Bottom Line:

I just ordered a case of this stuff in case you’re questioning the seasonality of it. It’s the perfect sessionable beer for this time of year.

The DC Fandome Trailer Unveiled New Footage From ‘The Batman,’ ‘Black Adam,’ And ‘The Flash’

With a little over a week to go until this year’s DC FanDome, the fan event has dropped a new teaser that includes very brief glimpses at some major DC Comics film. As promised, The Batman will have a strong presence at this year’s DC FanDome, and the new teaser makes that point clear by not only sneaking in brand new footage, but also featuring stars Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz, who will make an appearance next Saturday.

The Rock was also prominently displayed, and if you watch closely, you can see some of the first footage for Black Adam tucked into the teaser. Rounding out the big stars was Ezra Miller who popped up in some behind-the-scenes footage for The Flash.

From there, the teaser did a good job of displaying the cornucopia of DC Comics titles that will be showcased at the main event. On the TV side, Supergirl, Superman & Lois, Titans, and Doom Patrol were clearly seen. As for video games, Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League were both shown as the delayed titles get ready to come out swinging in 2022. There are also appeared to be flashes of some additional properties, so expect some surprises as the fan event unfolds.

DC FanDome 2021 kicks off on October 16 at 1 PM EST.

Tom Cruise Is Already Learning To Fly A Plane Nicknamed ‘The Widowmaker’ For A ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ Stunt, Of Course

After spending a year training for an insane stunt where he literally rides a motorcycle off of a cliff and parachutes mid-air to safety, Tom Cruise is already prepping for his next death-defying act. The actor is reportedly learning how to fly a World War II-era military plane called “The Widowmaker” for a stunt in the soon-to-be filming Mission: Impossible 8. Via The Sun:

The plane is to be filmed in a chase with another wartime aircraft. A source told me: “Tom had started to learn to fly a Boeing Stearman biplane earlier this year for a major stunt scene in Mission: Impossible 8.

“It’s obviously a highly skilled task but as usual he has no plans to cut any corners or bring in a stuntman.”

Of course, Cruise has plenty of experience with flying thanks to his work on Top Gun and its upcoming sequel Top Gun: Maverick. However, those are state of the art modern fighter jets that are actively maintained by the armed forces. For this latest stunt, Cruise will be flying an almost 80 year old plane with a reputation for leaving bodies behind. Not only that, but he’ll be pushing the plane to perform in a chase scene where anything could go wrong, but it wouldn’t be a Tom Cruise movie if he wasn’t in constant danger of from falling out of the sky at any moment. The guy jumps off of skyscrapers as casually as you and I walk through a park.

Cat Power’s ‘Covers’ Album Features Songs By Everybody From Ryan Gosling To Frank Ocean

Cat Power dropped her latest album, Wanderer, in 2018, and now she’s ready to follow it up. Instead of a set of originals, though, the new project is a covers collection. The album, appropriately titled Covers (not to be confused with her 2000 covers album, The Covers Record), is set for release next year, on January 14.

After premiering her cover of Frank Ocean’s “Bad Religion” on The Late Late Show last night, she shared the studio version of it, as well as her rendition of “A Pair Of Brown Eyes” by The Pogues.

Marshall says her Ocean cover originates from when she would perform her own “In Your Face” (from 2018’s Wanderer) on tour: “That song was bringing me down, so I started pulling out lyrics from ‘Bad Religion’ and singing those instead of getting super depressed. Performing covers is a very enjoyable way to do something that feels natural to me when it comes to making music.”

She also noted her cover of Billie Holiday’s “I’ll Be Seeing You” was inspired by the 2019 death of collaborator Phillippe Zdar, saying, “When people who you love have been taken from you, there’s always a song that holds their memory in your mind. It’s a conversation with those on the other side, and it’s really important for me to reach out to people that way.”

Aside from the aforementioned tracks, another noteworthy inclusion is a cover of “Pa Pa Power” by Dead Man’s Bones, a duo consisting of Ryan Gosling (yes, that Ryan Gosling) and Zach Shields. Meanwhile, alongside the covers is an updated version of Cat Power’s own “Hate,” which has been re-titled “Unhate.”

Listen to Cat Power’s Ocean and Pogues covers above and find the Covers art and tracklist below.

Domino Records

1. “Bad Religion” (Frank Ocean)
2. “Unhate” (Cat Power)
3. “Pa Pa Power” (Dead Man’s Bones)

5. “A Pair Of Brown Eyes” (The Pogues)
6. “Against The Wind” (Bob Seger)
7. “Endless Sea” (Iggy Pop)
8. “These Days” (Jackson Browne)
9. “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels” (Kitty Wells)
10. “I Had A Dream Joe” (Nick Cave)

What To Watch: Our Picks For The Ten Movies We Think You Should Stream This Weekend

Each week our staff of film and TV experts surveys the entertainment landscape to select the ten best new/newish movies available for you to stream at home. We put a lot of thought into our selections, and our debates on what to include and what not to include can sometimes get a little heated and feelings may get hurt, but so be it, this is an important service for you, our readers. With that said, here are our selections for this week.

10. (tie) Worth (Netflix)

Netflix

It’s a hell of trick, the way Michael Keaton went from being just a little more alive and electric than everyone else on the screen to how he now fades into roles where he’s at the center of slow-burn David and Goliath stories that mythologize the dogged pursuit of justice. It’s like he pointed his jets inward to melt away any sense of movie star sparkle to become the son of Pittsburgh everyman that he was born to be. One expects we’ll see that in the upcoming Dopesick, we certainly saw it in Spotlight, and from the producers of that film comes this story about the effort to compensate the families of 9/11 victims and the fight to not have that effort lose the thread of empathy and respect when confronted by such titanic loss. Watch it on Netflix.

10. (tie) Cinderella (Amazon Prime)

AMAZON

It is time, apparently, once again, time for a new take on Cinderella, the classic story of a girl and her evil family and how magic and some rodents make her a star. This time around, we have Camilia Cabello in the lead role and Billy Porter as her fairy godparent and Idina Menzel as the evil stepmother and, look at that, Pierce Brosnan as the king. The whole thing basically puts a series of small twists on a story you’ve seen a few dozen times, but sometimes that’s okay. The cast is strong enough to make it all worth a shot. Watch it on Amazon.

9. The Starling (Netflix)

Netflix

What we have here is, on paper, a pretty decent movie. We’ve got Melissa McCarthy and Chris O’Dowd and Timothy Olyphant and a story about a grieving woman who learns to live and laugh and love again through an extended turf war with a combative bird that takes up residence on her property. No complaints so far. The tricky part is in the execution and, given some of the reviews, this all leans toward melodrama until it topples over. But it’s hard to argue with that cast, and you probably have Netflix anyway, so maybe give it a crack for yourself. Watch it on Netflix.

8. Diana: The Musical (Netflix)

Netflix

Here’s your reminder that yes, a musical based on Princess Diana’s life does, in fact, exist. And yes, there’s a song in it titled “Here Comes James Hewitt.” Filmed in an empty theater with the original Broadway cast before its official run kicks off, this show has it all: mechanical bulls, Spanish-language ballads, that fantasy trope where Diana crowd surfs during a cellist concert. The story’s not revelatory, and we can’t say it’s the best Diana re-telling we’ve ever seen, but it is the most … musical. Watch it on Netflix.

7. The Voyeurs (Amazon Prime)

Amazon Prime

What we have here is an old-school erotic thriller — think Basic Instinct or Fatal Attraction — with White Lotus star Sydney Sweeney as one half of a curious couple who spends a not-insignificant amount of time spying on their exhibitionist-type neighbors. Things get weird and twisted and steamy, as they do in these kinds of movies, which were super popular in the 1980s and 1990s and have since just about disappeared. Might be worth it to give it a try, but think about closing your own blinds first. Watch it on Amazon Prime.

6. Cry Macho (HBO Max)

Warner Bros.

Clint Eastwood is back as an actor and director in Cry Macho. A movie with a razor-thin plot, where nothing much at all happens, but is still strangely enjoyable. There’s something irresistibly pleasant about the whole thing – which is just an excuse for Clint to star in a movie that could loosely be described as an “action” role. (Though, Clint does make sure he gets to throw a punch. With the assistance of a rooster named Macho.) Watch it on HBO Max.

5. The Guilty (Netflix)

Netflix

Based on the Oscar-nominated short film of the same name, The Guilty is a single-location thriller shot during the pandemic that stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a disgraced cop who’s been demoted from patrolling the streets to answering 911 calls. Riley Keough, Paul Dano, Bill Burr, and Ethan Hawke lend their voices, but this is Gyllenhaal’s film; he fills nearly every frame of the 90-minute runtime. It’s his best showcase as an actor since Nightcrawler. Watch it on Netflix.

4. Black Widow (Disney+)

Marvel Studios/Disney

Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff finally gets a proper send-off in this actioner that aims to go back-to-basics but succeeds more on a personal level. The film fills in plenty of blanks following the events of Captain America: Civil War, but more importantly, we receive butt-kicking ladies in well-choreographed fight scenes and an emotionally resonant story that introduces us to the inner Natasha, as witnessed by Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova. She’s perhaps the only person in the world who’s allowed to tease Natasha, and their dynamic (and the chemistry between Scarlett and Florence) rules. The film also allows David Harbour to perform grunt-filled face work with a wild accent while the ladies swirl around him in hand-to-hand combat. It’s a winner. And it’s now available to subscribers with no extra fee. Watch it on Disney+.

3. Malignant (HBO Max)

HBO

James Wan, he of the Saw and Insidious and Conjuring movies, is back with a new horror film. This one focuses on a woman who has terrifying visions of brutal murders, which are ruining her life a little (as terrifying visions of brutal murders will do) and are also –surprise — actually happening in the real world (which is bad). None of it sounds like a good time for her. For you, though? Maybe. Watch it on Netflix.

2. Muppets Haunted Mansion (Disney+)

Good news: The Muppets are back. Everyone’s favorite collection of fuzzy rascals take to Disney+ with a new spooky Halloween story about a haunted mansion. The Haunted Mansion, if we’re being technical. It might be a nice opportunity to fall down a Muppet rabbit hole again. There’s never a bad time to watch The Great Muppet Caper, after all. Watch it on Disney+.

1. The Many Saints of Newark (HBO Max)

HBO

The Sopranos are back. Kind of. The Sopranos are kind of back. Series creator David Chase’s long-rumored, long-awaited prequel movie about New Jersey’s most famous fictional crime family is finally here. What do we got? Well, for one, we’ve got Michael Gandolfini filling the role of a Tony Soprano and playing a younger version of the character his father made famous. We’ve also got a bunch more Moltisantis and 1960-70s fashion all against the backdrop of the 1967 riots in Newark. There’s a lot going here. You’ll probably want to check it out, if only to bask in a little nostalgia for a while. Watch it on HBO Max.

10. (tie) The Haunted Museum (Discovery+)

Discovery

Eli Roth has so much going on over at Discovery+ this month (following his recent real-life horror/Shark-Week film on the streamer) that one has to wonder… is he running the joint? It’s a valid question, but more to the point, he’s teaming up with Ghost Adventures host Zak Bagans for this scripted anthology series, in which they illuminate nine of the world’s most cursed artifacts. These relics are actually in display in Bagans’ Vegas museum, but here, you’ll get the historic commentary in addition to having the pants scared off of you.

10. (tie) One of Us Is Lying (Peacock)

PEACOCK

The New York Times bestselling novel comes to life when a group of give teens (the brain, the beauty, the jock, the criminal, yes, this sounds like a John Hughes imitation) go to detention, and one of them (the outcast) does not emerge. Hey, it happens. Was the death an accident? Not likely. Naturally, the four remaining students all become suspects, and all of them are looking sketchy. Again, it happens! Watch it on Peacock.

10. (tie) Foundation (Apple TV+)

APPLE

Sorry to Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos but Apple TV+ is actually winning the space race right now. They’ve already delivered the terrific For All Mankind and now they’re taking us further, to the very borders of the galaxy for this sci-fi adaptation. The story follows a mathematician who develops a formula for predicting the end of a future Galactic Empire before devising a way to save it via a rebellion (of sorts). Yes, there’s a lot going on here, but prestige TV king Jared Harris is a pro at making us care about really complicated science – see Chernobyl – and the casting department has another ace up its sleeve in case you’re on the binge-watching fence. Four words: Lee. Pace. In. Space. Watch it on Apple TV+.

9. The Morning Show (Apple TV+)

Apple TV

Critics of season one of The Morning Show won’t have an easy time credibly claiming a lack of action or interest in a second season that picks up the thread from the last while also servicing even more characters and the lingering threat of COVID. This is a heavyweight fight all over again with Aniston and Witherspoon leading the way, but look for more of Billy Crudup lounging in the chaos to spark the show once more. Watch it on Apple TV+.

8. Dave Chappelle: The Closer (Netflix)

Netflix

Dave Chappelle’s stand-up comedy run with Netflix has been a lucrative one for both parties, and it’s sixth-and-final chapter time. Expect plenty of controversy and line-crossing (he defends J.K. Rowling and DaBaby, for example), as is customary for the man on the mic to deliver. And there’s no telling whether Chappelle and Netflix’s common goodwill (after CEO Ted Sarandos helped him receive The Chappelle Show license back, along with millions of dollars) will result in a re-upping of a deal beyond this installment, but for now, the comedian (with returning, Emmy-award winning director Stan Lathan) is closing things out. Watch it on Netflix.

7. Maid (Netflix)

Netflix

Margaret Qualley (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood) stars in this heartbreaking adaptation of Stephanie Land’s New York Times best-selling memoir, Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive. This will, clearly, be a difficult watch, but Qualley’s raw portrayal (of a woman who flees an abusive relationship to go through exceedingly difficult times to break the cycle for her daughter) yields a burgeoning star. Watch it on Netflix. Watch it on Netflix.

6. The Problem With Jon Stewart (Apple TV+)

APPLE

Jon Stewart is back with an issue-oriented comedy/news hybrid that builds on a lot of the advances in form carved out by his former Daily Show colleagues. Can it work? To be sure, the brainpower and intensity make it feel like old times, but it’s the human connection — to the causes and in-studio guests — that might make it stand out as a powerful and necessary second act for Stewart as he brings substance and nuance to a strange world that both needs and seems to run away from those things. Watch it on Apple TV+.

5. Only Murders In The Building (Hulu)

HULU

Selena Gomez stars alongside the legendary Steve Martin and Martin Short, and the three portray NYC neighbors who aim to unravel an apparent murder inside their apartment building. Yes, they’re all podcasting because everyone does it (duh), and before long, the killer might be after them, too. Martin hasn’t written a feature film since the Pink Panther movies and Shopgirl, and we don’t wanna come out and call this trio a “much cooler Three Amigos” update, but Martin wrote that, too, so why not? Watch it on Hulu

4. What We Do In The Shadows (FX/Hulu)

FX

Well, well, well. Guillermo turned out to be a vampire killer, which sure as heck came as a surprise to Nandor, Nadja, and Laszlo, and Colin. The four Staten Island roommates must figure out how to handle this conundrum, along with tackling the other challenges of this season. Those include dealing with wellness cults and gym culture, along with gargoyles, werewolves who play kickball, casinos, and more. In other words, this is still one of the funniest shows on TV. Watch it on FX and Hulu.

3. Midnight Mass (Netflix)

Netflix

Get ready, The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor addicts, because creator Mike Flanagan’s back to cause us more horror fits. This happens to be his favorite project so far and revolves around an isolated community that lives on spooky Crockett Island, which gets even spookier due to a charismatic priest’s arrival. Naturally, a whole lot of supernatural shenanigans are afoot, but human nature can often be scarier than the ghosts that people can dream up. It’s dark, real dark. Watch it on Netflix.

2. Ted Lasso (Apple TV+)

APPLE TV+

The season finale is upon us, after many weeks of emotions and jokes and biscuits. Things got a little hairy in places. There were tears and doublecrosses. This weekend is the perfect time to get caught up if you fell behind or just continue pressing forward if you didn’t. Just don’t get mad at us if you start feeling things. Watch it on Apple TV+.

1. Squid Game (Netflix)

Netflix

Netflix’s most popular show in, well, ever continues to burn up the discourse, and internet bandwidth all over the world. It’s been a while since we had a full-on phenomenon like this one. Get in there if you haven’t yet, or maybe get in there again if you have, if part to enjoy (?) all the class-based cynicism and murderous children’s games, and in part so you have something to talk about with your family during the quickly-approaching holiday season. Watch it on Netflix.
