Kacey Musgraves Channels Her Inner Jenny From ‘Forest Gump’ During Her ‘SNL’ Performance

Saturday Night Live returned last night to launch its 47th season. The performer for the night was Kacey Musgraves, who delivered a pair of performances of songs from her most recent album, Star-Crossed. For her first set of the night, Musgraves took the stage to play “Justified,” where she gave a nod to Jenny from Forrest Gump.

Musgraves sat under dim lighting with a guitar in hand and it appeared that the singer was wearing nothing besides calf-high boots. A number of viewers caught on to the reference and hopped on Twitter to share their thoughts. Musgraves later tweeted a picture of a scene in Forest Gump which captured a bare backside view of Jenny, a character played by Robin Wright. Later she returned to the stage to perform “Camera Roll” to conclude the night.

The performances come after Musgraves delivered a fiery rendition of “Star Crossed” at last month’s MTV VMAs show. Next, the singer will hit the road for the Star-Crossed: Unveiled Tour in 2022 for a string of shows that will find her paired with King Princess.

You can watch Musgraves perform “Justified” and “Camera Roll” in the videos above.

‘SNL’ Tapped Cecil Strong To Do Her Best Kyrsten Sinema In Their Season Premiere Cold Open

In a twist that’s downright Trumpian, the most hated people in D.C. right now are Democrats. Their names are Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, two Senators ostensibly on the left, who refuse to back a a sweeping, game-changing, New Deal-ish bill that’s the bedrock of Joe Biden’s early presidency. It was only right that SNL would debut its 47th season by skewering this bizarre headache. And it was only right that the woman for the job of lampooning the very lampoonable Kyrsten Sinema was no less than Cecily Strong.

When last we saw SNL, Strong appeared to be bidding farewell. She wasn’t. Neither was Pete Davidson (who swung by late in the sketch to do his best Andrew Cuomo). Instead she was back in full force, playing the flamboyant and controversial Sinema as best she could.

New cast member James Austin Johnson also roared out of the gate, replacing Jim Carrey as an eager-to-please (and often failing to do so) Biden. The sketch finds him recuperating from a disastrous summer, which found him dragged over the messy exit from Afghanistan, only to find his dreams torpedoed by two (2) Democratic senators: not just Strong’s Sinema but also West Virginia’s Joe Manchin, played by Aidy Bryant.

“I didn’t come to congress to make friends. And so far: mission accomplished,” Strong’s Sinema cracks. She talks about her passions: “Yellow Starbursts, the film The Polar Express, and when someone eats fish on an airplane.” She then laid out how relatable she is.

“As a wine-drinking bisexual triathlete, I know what the average American wants,” she said. “They want to be put on hold when they dial 911. They want bridges that just stop — car falls down. They want water so thick you can eat it with a fork. And I will fight for that no matter what. Unless my foot hurts, then I’ll go back to Arizona.”

As in life, there is no resolution to this. There are mild digs at two “Squad” members: Edgo Nowdim’s Ilhan Omar and Melissa Villaseñor’s AOC. But the overall gist is that the Dems aren’t so much in disarray as being held hostage by two weirdos.

Auburn’s Bo Nix Kept Avoiding Disaster On One Of The Most Chaotic Touchdowns You’ll Ever See

Bo Nix has been one of the most thrilling quarterbacks in college football from the second he stepped on campus at Auburn. This is not necessarily a good thing — while Nix has provided Tigers fans with some extremely fun moments, there have been occasions where he gets a little too wound up and something terrible happens.

This play against LSU seemed like it was primed to be that second thing. The Tigers faced a fourth-and-2 in LSU territory about halfway through the second quarter on Saturday night and facing a 13-0 deficit. Nix took the snap, rolled out to his right, tried to hit one of his pass catchers who were taken totally away, and then, something ridiculous happened.

Nix covered, if I have to estimate, 50-plus yards just running around trying to avoid defenders who wanted to wrap him up and take him down. When someone finally got their hands on him, he just let one rip and threw a dart to Tyler Fromm, who caught it in the end zone. I promise you that the sequence of events is more ridiculous than I could ever put into words, just watch it.

You are probably not seeing a QB do something more ridiculous than this during the 2021 college football season.

Tinashe Jokingly Reacts To A Fight That Broke Out At One Of Her Concerts

The return of concerts over the last couple of months has been a great thing for fans. After going more than a year without the chance to see their favorite artists live, music lovers from all over had that opportunity given back to them, one that also grants artists a chance to meet their many supporters from all over the world. For the most part, the return of concerts has been normal which means there have been equally good and bad events. An example of the latter came at a recent Tinashe concert and after a video of the incident surfaced on social media, the singer had some light-hearted comments to share about it.

During the singer’s recent concert in New York, a fight between two women broke out and a good portion of the incident was caught on camera. While the reason for the fight is unknown, the video shows the ladies throwing a fair amount of punches before fellow concertgoers step in to break things up. Once the video reached social media, Tinashe caught wind of it and shared her response. “This is NOT what I meant when I said bad b*tches link up,” she wrote in reply to the video.

The singer’s comment comes after she released her fifth album 333, a project she is currently on tour for. The 333 Tour began last month in Houston and will continue through this month before coming to an end on October 21 in Seattle, Washington

You can view the fight and Tinashe’s response above.

Cincinnati Dug Up A Bunch Of Old Quotes From When Brian Kelly Was Coach To Celebrate Their Win Over Notre Dame

The seventh-ranked Cincinnati Bearcats picked up the biggest win in program history on Saturday afternoon. The team walked into South Bend and beat No. 9 Notre Dame, 24-13, in a game that very well could act as a springboard for the Bearcats to become the first team from a Group of 5 conference to make the College Football Playoff.

In the immediate aftermath of the win, the fine folks behind the athletic department’s Twitter account celebrated by tweeting out a video of coach saying a bunch of good things about the football program. The catch: These were not quotes by current Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell. Instead, they were quotes from when Brian Kelly was at the helm of the Bearcats, which he did from 2006-09 before leaving the school to take over at Notre Dame.

Give them this, it’s an excellent bit of smack talk. Kelly did an exceptional job with the Bearcats, going 11-3 in his penultimate year and 12-0 in his final season, with the team making BCS bowls in both years and the undefeated squad ending with the season as the fourth-ranked team in the country. But to the victors go the spoils, and on Saturday, that meant Cincinnati fans got to have some fun at their old coach’s expense.

Drake Shows Love To Meek And His New Album ‘Expensive Pain’

Drake and Meek Mill’s have had a turbulent relationship, but in recent years, the pair have been on much better terms. After they reconciled following a beef that was sparked by their 2015 collaboration “R.I.C.O.,” the rappers reconnected for “Going Bad,” off Meek’s 2018 album, Championships. Three years later, Meek returned with his fifth album Expensive Pain and while it didn’t feature them teaming up again, it’s clear they still love each other, as evidenced by a recent Instagram Stories post by Drake.

“Pain gets expensive at midnight!!” Drake wrote over an image of the Expensive Pain cover art. “[Meek Mill] proud of u boy since the Bahamas cook up we were plotting on the next chapter time to eat.”

Expensive Pain arrives with 18 songs, including the previously-released singles “Flamerz Flow,” “Blue Notes 2,” and “Sharing Locations.” The album is also laced with guest appearances from Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Kehlani, ASAP Ferg, Moneybagg Yo, Giggs, Young Thug, Vory, Lil Uzi Vert, and Brent Faiyaz. Hours after it was released, Meek shared videos for “On My Soul” and “Intro (Hate On Me).”

Carmelo Anthony On His Role With The Lakers: ‘Whatever It Is, It Is’

After almost 20 years of only crossing paths in the NBA as competitors, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony are finally teammates. The Nos. 1 and 3, respectively, picks in the 2003 NBA Draft, James and Anthony are close friends who have only ever teamed up as members of Team USA at various international basketball tournaments.

The interesting dynamic here is that, while James is still one of the best basketball players in the world, Anthony is no longer in his prime and has settled into a position as a very solid role player in the league. It has raised some questions about how he will fit in Los Angeles, but based on a quote he gave to the assembled media following a training camp session on Friday, he’s ready to settle into a spot where he does whatever’s asked of him by Lakers coach Frank Vogel.

“At this point, man, whatever we need to do, let’s do it,” Anthony said, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN. “It ain’t … ‘I can’t sit,’ and, ‘Oh, I want to start,’ ‘I want to come off the bench.’ Whatever it is, it is.”

Much was made of Anthony not wanting to come off the bench during his tenure with the Houston Rockets, but after being a starter for most of his first year with the Portland Trail Blazers, Anthony settled into a role as a dangerous reserve last season. Anthony averaged 13.4 points on 42.1 percent shooting from the field and 40.9 percent from three in 24.5 minutes per game last year, and only started in three of the 69 games in which he appeared.

With how the Lakers will presumably want floor spacing around James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook, there is a case to be made that Anthony should play early and often. But if Vogel ultimately decides he’s best in a role similar to what he had last year in Portland, Anthony sounds ready.

“Whatever he wants, let’s do it,” Anthony said. “I’m not even trippin’ about that at this point. Because let’s go. Let’s go win.”

Jerry Seinfeld Says He’s Sorry About The ‘Uncomfortable Sexual Aspect’ Of His Children’s Film ‘Bee Movie’

Jerry Seinfeld has never had another Seinfeld, the landmark ‘90s sitcom that just arrived in its entirety on Netflix. There’s been huge fanfare around the show’s new home, even though it was long available on Hulu (and also in the wrong aspect ratio). Seinfeld himself has been doing the press rounds, talking about his favorite moments, saying he’d change some things if he had to. But he wound up talking about another major work of his: the 2007 animated comedy Bee Movie.

Bee Movie remains the TV legend’s biggest foray into the big screen, in which he voiced a sentient insect in love with a female human, voiced by Renee Zellweger. That, incidentally, is what has long irked some people: that it was essentially a cross-species romance. And when Seinfeld went on The Tonight Show, he made sure to issue a mea culpa.

“I apologize for what seems to be a certain uncomfortable subtle sexual aspect of the Bee Movie,” Seinfeld semi-jokingly the crowd. “[It] really was not intentional, but after it came out, I realized this is really not appropriate for children. Because the bee seemed to have a thing for the girl, and we don’t really want to pursue that as an idea in children’s entertainment.”

It’s not the only strange thing about Bee Movie. At one point the film turns into a legal thriller, with Seinfeld’s Barry B. Benson suing the whole human race exploiting bees for their honey. Also Ray Liotta plays himself.

Whether Seinfeld really needed to make a public apology, you can judge for yourself: Bee Movie streams on Netflix, along with all 180 episodes of Seinfeld.

Freddie Gibbs Wants To Make An R&B Album After His Next Rap Project

The last few years have found Freddie Gibbs become a successful rapper, from 2014’s Piñata and 2019’s Bandana with Madlib, as well as 2020’s Alfredo. Alas, he’s grown tired of rap, and in a recent interview with Revolt, he shared what he wants to do next.

“This might be one of my last rap albums,” Gibbs said in regards to his upcoming album, SSS. “I ain’t gotta rap no more, man. After SSS, I’ma show y’all … I’m ’bout to bust out with an R&B album. R&B is what I started out doing before all the rap sh*t. Now, all you n****s just wanna make me rap all day, and I don’t wanna rap.” He added, “I wanna go back to my roots. I tried to get signed as an R&B singer in 2004, but every label in the world denied me. So, I had to do rap to get in the door.”

“I tricked y’all n****s into thinking I was a rapper,” he continued. “And I learned to rap so good — better than everybody else, it’s crazy. So now, I’m ’bout to come back to this R&B. And all the n****s that didn’t wanna do no songs with me, like Miguel and all them n****s, they’re gonna be like, ‘What’s up, Gibbs?’ And I’m ’bout to be king of this sh*t.”

This comes after he shared a pair tweets conveying similar ideas towards the end of last month. You can check out his full interview with Revolt here.

Ole Miss WR Braylon Sanders Reeled In A Ridiculous One-Handed Catch On The Opening Drive Against Alabama

One of the headliners of a loaded college football slate this weekend involves No. 12 Ole Miss headed to Tuscaloosa to try and figure out how to beat top-ranked Alabama. As usual, it’ll be an uphill battle for an ex-Nick Saban assistant (in this case, Lane Kiffin) to beat the master, but perhaps big plays like this catch by Braylon Sanders can help the Rebs get there.

Ole Miss QB Matt Corral dropped back on a second-and-19 and threw a rope over to Sanders, who was being smothered by Alabama’s Jayln Armour-Davis. The defensive back did an excellent job making it so Sanders had to do something almost miraculous to make this work, but somehow, Sanders went up and grabbed the ball with one hand. Then, despite having the smallest of margins to get his foot down, managed to establish himself as inbounds and make third down seem a little less insurmountable.

This is going to go down as one of the catches of the year in college football. Unfortunately for Ole Miss, this drive didn’t end in points — they went for it on fourth down three times, and after being successful on their first two attempts, they were stuffed near the goal line. But if their skill position guys are able to make plays like this, perhaps they’ll have a shot at pulling the upset.
