For the third consecutive game, Jay-Z could be found courtside at a Brooklyn Nets game, attending the team’s matchup against the Miami Heat, which they lost 93-106. His appearance shouldn’t be a surprise: He’s there often, and he’s also a co-owner of the team. But a funny moment involving him occurred during the game, and thankfully it was caught on camera.
Jay was speaking to someone to the right of him when a woman sat beside him and accidentally spilled his drink on him. A surprised look can be found on his face as he dries himself while the woman celebrates what seemed to be an exciting moment in the game. It turns out the woman in question is Clara Wu Tsai, who is also a co-owner of the Brooklyn Nets as well as a businesswoman, philanthropist, criminal justice activist, and member of Jay’s REFORM Alliance, which he formed with Meek Mill, who was also sitting with them at the game.
Recently Jay-Z and his team Roc organization recently helped raise $1 million to look into a wrongful conviction in Kansas County. He’s also preparing for the release of The Harder We Fall, a film that he executive produced. The soundtrack to the movie will also feature a collaboration between him and Kid Cudi entitled “My Guns Go Bang.”
This past summer marked six years since the last album from Dr. Dre, namely 2015’s Compton, which arrived 16 years after his sophomore album 2001. Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait nearly as long for new music this time around. Snoop Dogg has revealed Dre has something on the way thanks to some sort of partnership with Grand Theft Auto.
“I do know he’s in the studio,” Snoopan said during an interview on the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast. “I do know he’s making great f*cking music. And some of his music is connected to the GTA game that’s coming out. So I think that that will be the way that his music will be released, through the GTA video game.” The new music could come in time for Dre’s performance at next year’s Super Bowl LVI’s Halftime Show, where the famed producer will be joined by Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Snoop Dogg.
Snoop’s comments come after he admitted he was “out of pocket” during his feud with Eminem at the beginning of the year. “We brothers and we family so we learn to appreciate each other for what we do and we had our own little conversation about the respect we have for each other and the way we need to talk in public about each other,” he said during an interview on The Breakfast Club.
The Charmed reboot has always gone out of its way to be its own, more diverse thing. But they kept one thing the same: One of the main threesome left prematurely. Over the summer it was announced Madeleine Mantock, who plays eldest sister Macy, would leave the show at the end of its third season. That’s when Shannen Doherty, who played Prue Halliwell on the original, which ran from 1998 through 2006, vamoosed. And in a recent interview, former co-star Alyssa Milano took a good chunk of the blame.
Milano, who’s enjoyed a second act as a progressive activist, took a break from championing world-changing causes to discuss her other big TV show, after the ‘80s staple Who’s the Boss? There was a bit of a rift between Milano and Doherty, who played witch sisters. But things are better now.
“I would say we are cordial,” Milano told Entertainment Weekly. “I can take responsibility for a lot of our tension that we had, feeling that I was in competition rather than it being that sisterhood that the show was so much about.” She added, “I have some guilt about my part in that.”
Milano said that the two reconnected after Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. Nowadays, Milano sends Doherty direct messages “every couple of months.” Doherty’s cancer went into remission in 2017, but last year she announced it had returned.
“I have respect for her,” Milano said, saying she’s a “great actress, loves her family so much, and I just wish I could’ve felt strong enough in who I was to recognize that [back] then.”
If you didn’t know it already, rye is having a bit of a moment. Like bourbon, rye whiskey has had a meteoric rise worldwide over the past decade. These days, it seems like new expressions are released on a nearly-constant basis.
Last year, The Boss Hog VII: Magellan’s Atlantic, named for the famed Portuguese explorer, was made up of Canadian rye whiskey that was aged for seventeen years in American oak that was then transferred to Spanish oak before being finished for three days in South American teakwood. The result was an epic, spicy, sweet, slightly tannic, dry, warming whiskey that took home the award for Best Rye Whiskey at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Naturally, it kept us very excited about what was coming next.
This year, WhistlePig continues the globe-trotting journey with The Boss Hog VIII: LapuLapu’s Pacific. This over-the-top expression begins with straight rye whiskey, also sourced from Canada, that’s matured for almost eighteen years in new American oak barrels before being double finished in highly toasted barrels that once held small batch, single island, aged rum from The Philippines.

The Whiskey:
While many know Magellan as the first person to circumnavigate the globe, few know of his eventual demise at the hand of Filipino icon LapuLapu during the battle of Mactan. Five hundred years later, this whiskey is named in LapuLapu’s honor. On top of paying tribute to the Filipino cultural hero, this whiskey was made to showcase the rum-producing expertise of The Philippines. While the Caribbean gets all the press in the rum world, The Philippines is crafting high-quality rums including the small-batch rum (aged between seven and ten years) that provided the barrels this iconic whiskey was finished in.
“On the heels of Magellan’s Atlantic, it was a great challenge to find the perfect finish for the most special rye barrels in our warehouse.” Says Meghan Ireland, a Blender at WhistlePig Whiskey. “We were already tracing Magellan in-depth, and when we discovered LapuLapu’s story we knew we had to track down the best Philippines Rum barrels we could for the sequel. Before maturing Rum for seven to ten years, the barrels were coopered from American Oak and originally held bourbon. In this way, they’ve made their own circumnavigation from American whiskey to the Philippines, and back again to us in Vermont.”
Tasting Notes:
I spent a longer time nosing this whiskey than usual. There was just so much to unpack. First, there was an unmistakable hint of orgeat syrup, almond cookies, bananas, sweet rum, and caramelized sugar. The more I sniffed, the more I found a symphony of tropical fruits. This nose is so fruity, I almost didn’t expect to find a rye whiskey once I took a sip. But there it was, very present on the palate. The unmistakable peppery rye spice is right there up front, along with butterscotch, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, more candied almonds, and dried cherries. It ended with more toffee, orgeat, and pleasing, warming cracked black pepper.
Like Magellan traversed the globe, this was an epic journey for the senses in whiskey form.
Bottom Line:
The Boss Hog VIII: LapuLapu’s Pacific isn’t in everyone’s budget. For most of us, it’s pretty difficult to justify spending $500 for a single bottle of whiskey. But we’re here to tell you if you have the extra cash burning a proverbial hole in your pocket, this is a very solid use of it. You can find this unique, limited-edition expression at premium liquor stores, bars, pubs, restaurants, and various online retailers including shop.whistlepigwhiskey.com.
Rating: 98/100
It’s hard to imagine rye being much better than this unless you actively want it to be more traditional tasting.
I’m kind of obsessed with Mike Flanagan’s Midnight Mass right now. I’ve watched it twice. So when the idea of mixing up a Halloween cocktail for 2021 came up, I knew it had to be tied to the vampire miniseries. The show, which takes place on a tiny island off in the Pacific Northwest, has a lot of small seaside town vibes with dark sandy beaches and more than enough blood driving the plot.
Sandy beaches and blood sacraments? That can only lead to one cocktail, the Blood & Sand.
This is one of those cocktails I’ve only had a handful of times but always remember really digging it. It is a classic after all. The heart of this drink is a non-peated Scotch whisky (I’m using a very lightly peated Scotch whisky, but more on that later), cherry liqueur, sweet vermouth, and fresh orange juice. It’s an easy shaker that has a great, dark look to it. I’m also adding some horns for extra Halloween vibes.
Okay, let’s get into our official 2021 Halloween cocktail!
Serves 1, served in a cocktail glass, coupe, or Nick and Nora
0.75-oz. low-peat Scotch whisky
0.75-oz. sweet vermouth
0.75-oz. cherry liqueur
0.75-oz. fresh orange juice
Orange peel
Ice
You really don’t want to go full Islay peat monster here. But I’d argue that for the theme of Midnight Mass‘ whole blood and sand vibe on a remote PNW island Talisker is a nice choice. A lot takes place on the beach in that series and nothing really delivers on dark and cold beach vibes as well as the Isle of Skye whisky.
I’m using Talisker 18 because I love it and I have it on the shelf right now. You can easily use Talisker 10 for a much cheaper option.
For the cherry liqueur, I’m using a basic local version that costs about $8 for a bottle. Most recipes for this will call for Heerings, which is closer to $30 per bottle. As for the vermouth, I’m using Carpano Antica Formula. The rest is just a nice and ripe orange with some deeply frozen ice cubes.

What You’ll Need:
Cocktail shaker
Cocktail strainer
Fruit juicer
Fine strainer
Jigger
Paring knife
Fruit peeler
Zach Johnston
Method:
Pre-chill your cocktail glass in the freezer (preferably overnight).
Peel about a thumb’s worth of orange peel from the orange. Use the paring knife to trim the rounded edges, making a strip that’s about the length and width of your thumb. Make sure that each end is trimmed at a 45-degree angle. Lastly, cut a half-inch slit down the center of the peel along the horizontal axis.
Juice the orange.
In a cocktail shaker, add the scotch, vermouth, cherry liqueur, and sieved orange juice.
Fill about 2/3 with ice. Shake vigorously for about 30 seconds or until the outside of the shaker is so cold you can barely hold it.
Grab the glass from the freezer and strain the cocktail into the glass.
Spritz the orange oils over the cocktail. Bend each of the ends of the peel towards the center of the peel and place it on the rim of the glass, creating little orange horns. Serve.
Bottom Line:
Zach Johnston
This is really, really good. I don’t think I’ve ordered one in years and boy — I was missing out! The light notes from the Talisker shine through with a touch of sea salt, berries, a very distant wisp of salty campfire smoke. The sweetness of the cherry liqueur adds both body and depth to the drink. Those sugars really help marry the botanicals of the vermouth to the sharper points of the whisky. The orange adds a great counterpoint while also lightening things up on the palate.
The look of this nails Halloween vibes while also looking like very dark (and cold) blood in a glass. I might have to watch Midnight Mass again while sipping on one of these at the top of each episode. I mean, I have all that cherry liqueur to use up now anyway.
Benny The Butcher is currently on his The Burden Of Plugs Tour, which began earlier this month and is set to end on November 19 in Austin, Texas. Things have been going well for Benny, but that streak came to an end when the rapper was forced to postpone Wednesday night’s show after he was hospitalized for an asthma-related issue.
According to Complex, Benny’s hospitalization was not triggered by anything COVID-19-related. A representative for Benny told Complex said that, due to his asthma, “every now and again he requires medical attention.” Benny himself also spoke about the matter in an Instagram post. “Hang on to your tickets and we will notify all ticket holders of the new show date as soon as it is confirmed,” he wrote next to an image of him in the hospital. It remains to be seen whether or not his hospitalization will affect future dates.
During an interview with Vice last year, Benny spoke about dealing with his health condition in the middle of a global pandemic. “I got asthma, I’m keeping up with my asthma, I got my doctor on speed dial,” he said. “It’s just learning new things, man. Staying hydrated. Trying to put the right things inside our body, because we’re smoking, drinking, putting other shit in our body, so we gotta put some good shit in there, too. Looking out for each other, trying to stay healthy.”
On Wednesday, Merrick Garland found himself at the center of a GOP ambush. The sitting Attorney General appeared at a Senate Judiciary Committee meeting, where Republican after Republican pelted him with over-the-top accusations. One of their biggest pet peeves: the violent threats made against school board members nationwide. No, they weren’t against those; they were against Garland, claiming he was unfairly investigating MAGA parents who have simply been endangering the lives of public servants. But one Senator came to his defense: Cory Booker.
It was a long day for Garland and anyone in the chamber, with one Republican after another making unhinged accusations and appearing to hope their rants wind up on Fox News that evening. Who was the most over-the-top? Was it Tom Cotton, who threw everything at him but the kitchen sink, informed Garland he “should resign in disgrace, then left in a huff (then came back for more)? Or was it Ted Cruz, who actually defended Trumpist parents doing Nazi salutes?
Eventually there was a break in the clouds. Cory Booker, former presidential candidate and New Jersey senator, took the microphone, and he came bearing receipts:
After hours of Republicans arguing that concerns about threats against school board members are overblown, Cory Booker brings receipts showing that there have been many such incidents, including physical violence pic.twitter.com/ueVhb82VMy
Booker started by quoting Garland’s strangely controversial memo, which claimed that “there’s been a disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence against school administrators, board members, teachers, and staff” across the nation’s public schools. With this assessment, Booker agreed, then rattled off one horrifying story after another.
“In Texas, a parent physically assaulted a teacher,” Booker bean. “In Pennsylvania, a person posted threats on social media which required police to station outside of a school district… I can keep going: Ohio, a school board member was threatening a letter with, ‘We are coming for you.’”
Booker then pointed out, as Garland’s memo did, that while “spirited debate” should be and is allowed over education-related issues, threats of violence are not. And Booker had page after page of examples of the latter, to say nothing of scores of disturbing videos of same that have been making the rounds all year long. Booker then pointed out that, instead of rounding up parents, as Republicans have falsely claimed he’s doing, Garland simply asked for more investigation into such matters. If anything, he may have suggested Garland wasn’t doing enough to protect vulnerable school employees.
You can watch Booker’s full takedown in the video above.
Game 2 of the World Series saw some Houston trying to change the mojo as the Astros looked to even the series after dropping Game 1 at home on Tuesday, as Minute Maid Park had the roof open for a playoff game for the first time since 2005.
The Fox broadcast also tapped a Houston icon for their intro video, as they got Megan Thee Stallion to set the stage for Game 2 with some Houston flair, as well as some love for the Braves too. The highlight of the video is her mentioning Joc Pederson and his pearls, calling him a “Bad B.”
Tonight they got Megan Thee Stallion for the intro montage for the #WorldSeries. She called Joc Pederaon a Bad B and I have never smiled wider. pic.twitter.com/TdqM3xdNLq
It was about as well done as any celebrity hype video, as Meg doesn’t try to do anything but be herself for the video and even her getting her favorite tag lines like hotties and savages very naturally. Joc Pederson will surely love getting the Bad B*tch stamp of approval from Megan Thee Stallion, after that was the explanation he used for why he has been wearing a pearl necklace throughout the playoffs. Whoever slid that through the Fox clearance process for this video deserves a raise.
The intro also gave us the delightful opportunity to hear Joe Buck saying “Something For The Hotties.”
There’s a very good chance they have a similar video lined up with an Atlanta artist for when the series shifts to being Braves home games, and hopefully we get more Joe Buck reading off the titles of hip-hop albums as a result.
Chris Evans was already skilled at squeezing hearts on social media, cavalierly sharing sweet pics of his adorable dog and piano-playing videos on Instagram, as if we could just casually watch him be a near-perfect man without swooning. And now he’s being even more delightful with his gushing giddiness over getting to play his dream role.
The guy is already best known as the studly Marvel superhero Captain America, so what could possibly top that? Pixar, apparently. Evans’ ultimate acting dream is being in a Pixar movie. And now that dream is coming true, the most eligible of the Chrises could not be cuter in his expressions of joy.
Sharing the new trailer for “Lightyear”—Pixar’s origin story about the astronaut the Buzz Lightyear toy was based on in the “Toy Story” universe—Evans wrote on Twitter:
“I’m covered in goosebumps. And will be every time I watch this trailer. Or hear a Bowie song. Or have any thought whatsoever between now and July cause nothing has ever made me feel more joy and gratitude than knowing I’m a part of this and it’s basically always on my mind.”
I’m covered in goosebumps. And will be every time I watch this trailer. Or hear a Bowie song. Or have any thought w… https://t.co/iANN0R8WDG
We barely get to hear his voice in the trailer, and yet it still looks like it’s going to be awesome. (Note: He later corrected himself—the film’s release date is June, not July.)
Evans has been bursting with joy and sharing his delight every chance he gets. He wrote on Twitter that animated movies were an enormous part of his childhood: “They were my escape. My adventures. My dreams. They were my first window into the magic of storytelling and performing.”
He also shared this statement:
“The phrase ‘a dream come true’ gets thrown around a lot, but I’ve never meant it more in my life. Anyone who knows me knows that my love for animated films runs deep. I can’t believe that I get to be a part of the Pixar family and work with these truly brilliant artists who tell stories unlike anyone else. Watching them work is nothing short of magic. I pinch myself every day.”
Animated movie were an enormous part of my childhood. They were my escape. My adventures. My dreams.
Evans shared an equally adorable post about the film last year on Instagram when he first got the part.
“Working with Pixar is a dream come true. I’ve been a massive fan of their films since the very beginning. My team could barely contain their excitement when they told me that Pixar had a pitch for me. All they said was ‘Buzz Lightyear’. I didn’t know what that meant, since Tim Allen is Buzz Lightyear, and no one could ever touch his performance. I needed to know how this character was different and why this story was worth telling. I can say 2 things with absolute confidence:
1. I didn’t stop smiling through the ENTIRE pitch. Ear to ear.
2. Everyone can rest easy. And get very excited.
Trust me when I say that they REALLY know what they’re doing over there. This one is gonna special, and it doesn’t step on a single thing. I can’t even put my excitement into words. I smile every time I think about it.”
Be cuter, Chris.
Some people are making a big deal of the fact that it’s Chris Evans voicing Buzz Lightyear in the origin film instead of Tim Allen, who played the action figure in all four “Toy Story” movies. However, “Lightyear” isn’t a movie about the toy; it’s about the real astronaut (real within the “Toy Story” world, anyway) that the action figure is based on.
Evans’ delight is contagious, and fans are giddy for him. Few of us get to live out a childhood dream like this, and Evans seems like just the kind of all-around good guy who deserves it.
I mean, look at this video of when he met his doggo, Dodger.
And watch the man playing piano.

I mean, come on. That’s just not even fair.
Congratulations on your dream come true, Chris Evans. We’re all thrilled to be along for the ride with you.
At 47, Joe Kavaluskis lost his nine-year battle with multiple myeloma, a rare blood cancer, on January 8, 2020, leaving behind a wife and two sons. But that didn’t stop him from fulfilling one of his son’s dreams a week later on his 13th birthday.
In the final days of his life, he told his wife, Melanie, to buy their son, Logan, a puppy after he passed. He thought the dog would brighten his spirits after such a loss and it was something he always wanted but couldn’t have. Joe was allergic to dogs so he couldn’t have one in the home.
“He said, ‘Just promise that when I do pass, that you get Logan a puppy as soon as you can, because I know that it will bring him a lot of comfort,'” Melanie Kavaluskis told Inside Edition.
Throughout his childhood, Logan had hermit crabs and lizards, but never the puppy he always wanted. When he was 3 years old he got a stuffed Boston terrier and named it Puppers and took it everywhere he went for years.
Joe thought it was the right time for him to have a real Boston terrier of his own.
13-year-old cries as he’s surprised with dog from late dad.
A week after Joe’s passing, Melanie told her son Logan they had to drive to Midland, Michigan to pick up a puppy, but he had no idea it was a gift for him. Halfway through the drive home, his cousin Jon broke the news.
“That’s from your dad. That’s your dog,” Jon told an astonished Logan. “Really? Logan replied.
The 13-year-old boy looked down at the dog and he still couldn’t believe it was his. “‘Dad wanted you to have a puppy,” his cousin said.
“Words can’t explain the shock,” Logan later told WZZM13. “I had to ask ‘really?’ again, just to make sure it was my dog and not a horrid prank.”
The family has named the dog Indy and Logan says he’s a great fit for the family.
“He fits to all of our needs. Cuddles with my mom and my brother and plays with me, unless I want him to relax,” Logan said.
Melanie thinks that her husband’s final gesture may have been his best.
“He got it right. This was amazing. This gift is just perfect. Perfect timing,” she said.
Joe’s gesture may have done more than just cheer up his son. Research shows that pets can be a big help for kids who are grieving.
“Pets can help improve mood,” said Gina McDowell, a licensed professional clinical counselor and behavioral health clinical educator at the Big Lots Behavioral Health Pavilion at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, in a Huffington Post article.
“Playing with pets often creates positive emotions that can last throughout the day and may even help manage symptoms of anxiety and depression,” she continued.
It has to be terribly frustrating to be suffering from a terminal disease knowing you’ll be unable to comfort your children when you’re gone. But Joe did one of the most beautiful things imaginable by fulfilling one of his son’s dreams while also giving him a way to cope in a time of need.
