Adele’s ’30’ Extends Its Reign At No. 1 To Four Consecutive Weeks

With just a couple of weeks left in 2021, Adele is solidifying her position as one of this year’s best-selling artists. Her fourth album, 30 — which fans waited six long years to hear — debuted at No. 1 with a whopping 839,000 sales in its first week. 30. It remained at No. 1 in the following weeks.

Now 30 has scored its fourth consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart dated December 25. It achieved this thanks to 183,000 album units in its fourth week on the chart. This number is comprised of 146,500 pure album sales and 35,000 streaming equivalent album units supplied by 47.3 million on-demand streams of the album’s songs.

30 becomes the first album to spend four straight weeks at No. 1 since Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album tallied ten straight weeks at the top of the charts between January 23 and March 27, garnering huge sales despite controversy that mushroomed over a racist remark he made. The last album by a woman that did this was Taylor Swift’s Folklore, which spent its first six weeks at No. 1 starting in August 2020. Adele’s 30 also tallied the biggest fourth week for any album released within the last three years.

Elsewhere on the chart, Juice WRLD’s second posthumous album Fighting Demons checks in at No. 2 thanks to 119,000 equivalent album units sold.

The Washington Mystics Won The No. 1 Pick In The 2022 WNBA Draft Lottery

On Sunday, the WNBA held its Draft Lottery for the four teams that did not make the postseason this year, with the Indiana Fever, Atlanta Dream, Dallas Wings (via the L.A. Sparks), and Washington Mystics all hoping to nab the top spot.

For the second time in three years the Fever had the best odds to win the lottery but ended up with the No. 2 pick, as this time it was the Washington Mystics leaping into the top spot. The Dream fell to the third pick and the Wings will pick fourth in next spring’s draft.

For the Mystics, they will have their choice at the top of the draft, with guard Rhyne Howard of Kentucky as the favorite to go first overall, while forward NaLyssa Smith of Baylor also has a case to be made for that spot. Whoever they take will be coming into a team that, if they can get healthy, will be expecting to vault back into the contender status next season. The Fever, meanwhile, are just hoping to hit on a high draft pick, as they have failed to make the playoffs in five consecutive seasons and looked as far from contending as ever in 2021. Atlanta is likewise in the midst of an organizational overhaul, with a new coach, new GM, and some new faces coming in on the roster after a tumultuous last couple seasons. The Wings, meanwhile, took the next step into playoff contention this past season, earning the leagues 7-seed and will hope they can add another rotational piece around Arike Ogunbowale.

The full 2022 WNBA Draft order will look like this, barring trades beforehand.

1. Washington Mystics
2. Indiana Fever
3. Atlanta Dream
4. Dallas Wings
5. New York Liberty
6. Dallas Wings
7. Chicago Sky
8. Minnesota Lynx
9. Seattle Storm
10. Indiana Fever
11. Las Vegas Aces
12. Connecticut Sun

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Had One Of The Biggest Movie Openings Ever, Despite The New Pandemic Wave

In New York City, some Broadway shows have cancelled shows. Lines to get tested for COVID are around the block. Cases are soaring. SNL went on without most of its cast and crew. Fears of another brutal winter wave, brought on by the Omicron variant, are upon us. But you wouldn’t know that from looking at the box office returns for Spider-Man: No Way Home. After an opening day that was both a pandemic-era best and second only to Avengers: Endgame (also featuring Tom Holland’s Peter Parker), the Marvel threequel went on to one of the biggest opening weekends in film history.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, No Way Home — which sends Spidey into the multiverse — wound up grossing $253 million over the three-day pre-Christmas weekend. But that’s not all. It’s overseas gross was a whopping $334.2 million, meaning a total haul of $587.2 million. (This is minus China, by the way.)

Domestically that haul — and again, during a once-in-a-century public health crisis that is about to kick into yet another gear — makes it the third biggest-ever opener, not adjusted for inflation. Number one is Avengers: Endgame, with $357 million, followed by Avengers: Infinity War, whose $257.6 million No Way Home almost beat. That said, it did outgross the domestic opening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($248 million), Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($220 million) and Jurassic World ($208.8 million).

For contrast, the previous box office weekend champ of the pandemic era, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, grossed a “mere” $90 million. No Way Home also handily bested the previous three Marvel outings: Black Widow ($80 million), Shang-Chi ($75 million), and Eternals ($71 million).

In less happy news, non-comic book fare continued to sink like a stone. After last weekend’s poor showing for Steven Spielberg’s (very, very good) remake of West Side Story ($10 million), Guillermo del Toro’s star-studded redo of the classic film noir Nightmare Alley managed a mere $2.9 million. That suggests that adult audiences are still staying home — especially as cases once again skyrocket — and that there may be a grim future for movies not aimed at the young and carefree.

On the other hand, it sure does look like those who made it out to the latest webslinger movie really enjoyed themselves.

Charlie Woods Put On A Show With Tiger As They Shot A 57 Sunday At The PNC Championship

Tiger Woods made his return to competitive golf at the PNC Championship this weekend, as the parent-child event on the PGA Tour presented a low-stress environment and a place he could use a golf cart for the two-day “hit and giggle,” as Tiger called it.

However, while seeing Tiger hit golf shots for the first time since his horrific car accident nearly cost him his right leg back in February was the headliner coming into the weekend, he was only the second most talked about Woods once Sunday ended. For the second straight year, Woods teed it up at the event with his son Charlie, who is, as you’d expect, a tremendous talent, but on Sunday the youngest Woods put on an absolute show, particularly as Tiger seemed to fade a bit in his first event back on that injured leg.

Tiger and Charlie, after a 10-under 62 on Saturday, came out Sunday needing a massive round to put themselves in contention, and did just that, shooting a 15-under 57 that included a stretch of 11 straight birdies. Tiger created some terrific highlights of his own, most notably a near hole-out with a wedge and some big putts.

But it was Charlie who stole the show, firing some absolute darts, burying putt after putt, and twirling clubs, raising putters, and tossing coins early like his father in his prime.

Team Woods’ final two birdies of the day were all Charlie, as he birdied with his own ball on 16 and 17, where he authored the shot of the day from the same tees the pros were playing from, throwing a dart at a tough pin near the water.

It wasn’t quite enough to catch the Johns Daly (John and John II), but it was one of the coolest moments of the golf year watching Charlie put his dad in the passenger’s seat down the stretch as they caught fire as a duo to get to second place (after finishing seventh a year ago).

LCD Soundsystem Canceled The Rest Of Their Brooklyn Residency Due To The Recent Omicron Variant Surge

The Omicron variant has led to a spike in COVID cases, and with it some changes in the entertainment industry. Saturday Night Live was forced to resort to a limited cast and no live audience (and no Charli XCX) for its most recent episode. It’s also affected the band LCD Soundsystem, as they were forced to cancel the rest of their Brooklyn residency.

In posts to their social media accounts, the group announced the cancelation of their remaining three shows, from December 19-21. “You have all spoken. The last three shows are canceled,” the band wrote. “You good people who want to return your tickets and try again another time have spoken, but so has the new info, the hospital capacity, and those of us in the band, crew, and venue. We certainly had enough cancellations to make the vote count, but we also, now with all the new info, want to stop for our own sakes.”

They apologized to those who made plans to travel, as well as promised to issue refunds. “We tried. We really did,” they added. “We were heartened to see so many more masks at the last show. We were incredibly thankful for everyone who wanted to make it work. But it will have to wait, again, until we find out what this new wave means to us all. Thank you for again listening, trying, etc. Please be safe.”

Roger Stone Is Trying To Pin The Blame For The Jan. 6 Capitol Breach On Steve Bannon

The Jan. 6 committee is getting closer and closer to piecing together what happened on Jan. 6. Hundreds of Trump staffers have been interviewed, many of them willingly. Even the “MAGA Bonnie and Clyde” are playing ball. As a result, a clearer picture is emerging of how the former president helped foment a near-insurrection that resulted in five deaths. But who was behind encouraging his supporters of violently breaching the Capitol building. Roger Stone, one of Trump’s closest allies, swears he has an answer.

As per The Daily Beast, the longtime Republican operative — who pleaded the fifth to the House select committee investigating the riot — took to Telegram, the far right message sending service, on Sunday. And he pinned the blame on his longtime frenemy Steve Bannon.

“It is highly likely that Bannon really gave the order to breach the capital [sic] and maneuvered patriots into dangerous positions,” Stone wrote. “A neophyte Steve Bannon was willing to try crazy things like this to curry favor with Trump who had a [sic] no interest in Bannon’s bullsh*t.”

Stone and Bannon don’t seem to get along very well. Back in January, a couple weeks after the Capitol tragedy, he took umbrage with Bannon, whom he dubbed a “progenitor of hobo chic,” getting pardoned after defrauding a number of Trump supporters.

Stone’s Telegram post wasn’t the only thing he did this weekend. On Saturday, he appeared on Alex Jones’ Infowars, where he advised the conspiracy theorist, who’s playing ball with the Jan. 6 committee, to not take their requests seriously. Stone swore he didn’t want to “obstruct justice,” but rather it was just some “friend to friend” legal advice.

Pooh Shiesty Sends Love To His Supporters And Addresses His Haters In A New Message

Pooh Shiesty has been behind bars since July as a result of gun charges in two separate incidents. The first dates back to October 2020: an alleged armed robbery in Bay Harbor Islands, Florida in which Shiesty shot someone during an exchange for sneakers and marijuana. He initially pleaded not guilty to the charges, but in October, he filed to change it to a plea deal. The second incident dates back to May of this year, when he was accused of shooting a security guard in the leg at Miami’s King Of Diamonds strip club.

The rapper was denied bail in both cases, and with the May 2021 case still pending, it’s unlikely that Shiesty will be released anytime soon. Despite this, he remains confident that things will change, as per a new post he shared on his Instagram page.

Sarah Palin Actually Said She’d Only Get Vaccinated ‘Over My Dead Body’ (Months After Getting COVID And Telling People To Be Safe)

Remember Sarah Palin? She was the OG nincompoop Republican, birthing all the nincompoop Republicans that run rampant today. She singlehandedly took the party from élite Mid-Atlantic accented wordsmiths like William F. Buckley Jr. to inarticulate mush-brain grifters like Donald J. Trump. Thanks, John McCain! You don’t hear much from Palin these days, but when she pops up, you betcha that she’ll say something indescribably moronic.

And so it goes that Palin appeared at the Turning Point USA’s “AmericaFest 2021” conference in Phoenix, Arizona. She spoke with the organization’s founder, Charlie Kirk, the young’un who sometimes records bizarre videos where he looks like crap. And of course, they discussed the big bête-noire for today’s Republicans: the vaccines that could protect them from the rapidly mutating virus that’s already taken so many of their registered voters’ lives.

Was Palin for this free and effective remedy? Well, she used to be. Back in March, she tested positive for COVID and proceeded to tell everyone to mask up and get jabbed. ““I strongly encourage everyone to use common sense to avoid spreading this and every other virus out there,” she said at the time. “Anyone can catch this.”

What a difference nine-or-so months makes. Now she’s back to towing the party line, and she had a perfectly self-dunk way of wording her vaccine flip-flop. “It’ll be over my dead body that I’ll have to get a shot,” Palin told the crowd of people whose lives are now even more at risk thanks to the Omicron variant. “I will not do that. I won’t do it, and they better not touch my kids either.”

Of course, if she continues to be unvaxxed during a winter surge that’s already under way, she very well may get her wish. Unless she’s secretly vaccinated, as so many prominent Republicans probably are, especially if they work at Fox News.

Palin doesn’t always speak with such perfectly imperfect phrasing, as here. She’s usually a word salad scramble-brain. She proceeded to tell the crowd to “rise up, that “there are more of us than there are of them,” which sounded an awful lot like a dangerous call to arms. Then she prattled on aimlessly, all while Kirk looked uncomfortable:

For us to be hesitant and for us to wait for somebody else to take this on and stand up and say ‘enough is enough,’ you need to all look around and realize that as you stiffen your spine and take those positions you know are right — especially when it comes to the government telling us what we have to inject in our own bodies. Realize that those around you — as you stiffen your spine — their spines too will stiffen. There is an empowerment in a group like this where we can kind of feed off each other and really be strong.

Palin’s comments come just as the Omicron variant has led to a massive uptick in cases, especially in New York. SNL even dramatically revamped their final episode of 2021, sending almost everyone home and mostly playing pre-tapeds and older sketches, in an attempt to not get everyone infected. Of course, if they’re vaccinated — and especially if they’re boostered — any resulting illness may turn out relatively modest. If they’re not vaccinated, then they’re in real trouble. Maybe it’s best not to listen to a failed vice presidential candidate, especially one who used to say vaccines were good.

A Fan Ran Into The End Zone Looking For A Pass On A Jags Touchdown Run

It’s been quite the week for the Jacksonville Jaguars and their fans. Really, it’s been quite the season.

Urban Meyer was (finally) fired on Thursday after the latest report of him being awful to work for came out, with former kicker Josh Lambo alleging that Meyer kicked him while calling him “dipsh*t.” That, coupled with calling assistants “losers,” the video of him getting danced on at his own restaurant by a woman who was not his wife, and the 2-11 record for Jacksonville this season was enough to earn him a firing for cause.

There was some optimism that the Jaguars might come out with some reinvigorated spirit on Sunday with Meyer gone, but early on it was the Texans led by Davis Mills that had jumped in front in Jacksonville. Finally, the Jags got things going on a drive down deep in Texans territory, and that was apparently enough to get a fan a bit too excited about some positive play, as on the Jaguars first touchdown a fan ran into the end zone calling for a pass.

Thankfully it was a run play, because this could’ve been absolute chaos had Jacksonville called some kind of play-action bootleg to that side with him standing there as routes came towards him. Instead, James Robinson barreled into the end zone and no one from either team seemed to even notice or care he was out there calling for a Trevor Lawrence fade route. The fan was surely removed from the stadium, but he’s still probably having a better week than Urban.
