Omar Apollo turned some eyeballs in his direction with his 2020 debut full-length project Apolonio, and now he’s getting ready to generate even more attention with Ivory, a new album that’s set to drop in early April. Fans have actually already heard a decent portion of the album, as Apollo has now shared five singles from it. That includes the new one from today, “Tamagotchi.”
If the production style of this one sounds familiar, that because The Neptunes (Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo) produced the song. On the smooth and sensual tune, sung in both English and Spanish, Apollo sings, “You with somebody, or are you cool? / I want your body, you want me too / I see you coming, I come for you / Need you around me, I know you do.”
For better or worse, Nicki Minaj has developed a reputation for living up to her married name, being extra petty when it comes to getting credit and attention in the rap game. While it’s likely at least some of that rep derives more from her overprotective fans lashing out at anyone they perceive as a threat, she’s still worked pretty hard in recent years to undo some of the damage.
However, that doesn’t mean she appreciates being compared and contrasted to the modern generation of women currently running rap — a generation that includes assumed rival Cardi B, City Girls (who, to be fair, dissed her first), and Megan Thee Stallion. Case in point, she recently tweeted a screenshot of an article praising her, but edited a line mentioning some of her collaborators and frenemies by scratching out their names. In its unedited form on HotNewHipHop, the line reads, “Despite the welcomed contributions of women like Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion City Girls, and Doja Cat over the past few years, female rap still feels incomplete without Nicki Minaj’s presence and output, and that alone illustrates how important she is to Hip-Hop, as a genre, and as a culture.”
The cryptic nature of the edits, presented without comment by Nicki, prompted fans to immediately begin speculating, with results polarized between affirming Nicki’s perceived penchant for drama and crediting her for trying not to draw focus, since her watchdog-like Barbz could perceive even the mention of other female rappers as a slight against their Queen.
If it wasn’t a Google fact check telling me this woman is 40, i would never believe someone this old could possibly act this immature. #growupchallengehttps://t.co/OnfKuXxzZv
Who gives af about if she decided to scribble out names or nah? This was about HER not them and if she didn’t wanna include those names it’s her choice…it’s really weird how y’all mind celebrities business and talk about everything they do like they aren’t HUMANS just like us https://t.co/SzAU0cmWaF
Whatever her reason for crossing the names out, it’s a fair bet to say she knew that the move would stir up controversy — which, to be fair, may have been the point of the whole exercise. People are certainly talking about Nicki, something we know she enjoys, and if she really is dropping a new collab with Latto in a few days, the move will certainly result in more eyes on the collab, as well as “Blick Blick,” her recent one with Coi Leray.
Things are moving fast for Pete Davidson, who has been seen out and about with his girlfriend Kim Kardashian and even branded her name on his skin, which is totally normal behavior. Now, it seems like Davidson’s mom wants him to start a family with the mom of four.
On an Instagram post of the couple, a fan commented, “She will be pregnant with his child by the end of the year” to which Davidson’s mom replied “yayyyy!” It seems that the comment has since been deleted after fans flocked the post to be rude to her, as most fans do, or maybe Kris Jenner called up Davidson for some damage control. Neither Davidson nor Kardashian have commented, but the couple did go Instagram official a few weeks ago.
Davidson and his mom Amy seem to have a pretty solid relationship, as she is often posting pictures of her son working behind the scenes. She definitely seems to approve of his relationship with Kardashian, or at least she really wants to be a grandmother.
The two have only been dating a few months, but have remained inseparable. Kardashian insists she is having fun with the Saturday Night Live star, while her ex-husband Kanye West consistently bashes him in his new music videos. Despite this, the couple has been seen globe-trotting and making out all over the country, so maybe there will be kids in their future. Hopefully, he will stay off Instagram if that happens.
For the first time since their long-running primetime soap ended, One Tree Hill stars Hilarie Burton, Sophia Bush, and Joy Lenz will reunite for an upcoming episode of the CBS drama, Good Sam. While all three actresses have remained close friends, and even launched a podcast together, this is the first time they felt the time was right to have an on-screen reunion.
While sitting down to promote the reunion, the three stars also opened up about their 2017 letter which accused One Tree Hill showrunner Mark Schwann of sexual harassment. At the time, Burton revealed that she was the constant target of Schwann’s inappropriate conduct over several seasons, and both Lenz and Bush signed an open letter in solidarity with their co-star. However, five years later, Burton has yet to receive an apology, and she’s done waiting for one. Via Variety:
In my mind, I was like, surely, someone’s going to say something to us. Surely, someone is going to apologize or want to have a conversation or anything and kept waiting for it. It’s crazy to think that you could be disappointed more, but you always can be. This process has been so healing that I don’t need it anymore. I don’t need the “I’m sorry.” I don’t need the contact. We’re so good. That silence has spoken for itself, and what we have is so much better than anything I could have expected that I feel very good about the position we’re in right now.
After Lenz agreed that everything Burton said is “exactly right,” the three returned to the business of just being awesome together and revealed that they’ll be taking their podcast on the road now that COVID is less of an issue. Also, Bush is packing them something called a “wine suitcase,” which sounds like it should cover all of the essentials. You can never be too prepared.
Ted Cruz is out here asking the tough questions. Questions like “do you agree… that babies are racist?” during the Supreme Court confirmation hearing for Ketanji Brown Jackson, and pulling a “don’t you know who I am?” during his second airport incident in as many years. Ron Perlman has a question for Ted Cruz, too: “Go f*ck yourself.” (Hm, I guess it’s not so much a question as a command.)
“Dear @tedcruz,” the Sons of Anarchy and Hellboy actor, who previously challenged Cruz to a wrestling match, tweeted on Wednesday, along with a video directed towards the Texas senator. “Listen, I know how tempting it is to appeal to the real lowest form of humanity here in the United States,” he said. “The bottom feeders, the people who pride themselves on hatred and un-education and inability to read and inability to understand the difference between true patriotism and the bullsh*t you’re selling.”
Perlman continued, “I know how tempting it is to play to those people, because at least you have a base. But Jesus Christ, Ted, for somebody with a really, really small dick, you get to be a bigger prick every f*cking day. Go f*ck yourself.”
The new supergroup of Wiz Khalifa, Big KRIT, Smoke DZA, and Girl Talk is a wholly unexpected one, but the foursome are showing that it totally works. Girl Talk’s Greg Gillis — Wiz Khalifa’s Pittsburgh compatriot — is a deft hip-hop producer. Gone are the frenetic mash-ups that took the world by storm, and instead, we get a breezy, chilled out canvas for three uniquely talented rappers to shine.
The group’s debut album, Full Court Press album, is out on April 8th and Gillis says that “it’s a unique intersection of all of our work.” The tracks tend to feature a combination of the four, with Girl Talk as the only constant. “Put You On” was the first single, and it struck a balance between Wiz’s melodious raps, Smoke DZA’s East Coast punch and Big KRIT’s definitive Southern style. Now on “How The Story Goes,” Wiz and KRIT shine on a mellow groove from Girl Talk that shows the vision behind a project that needs to be taken seriously.

Soccer Mommy just announced that her new album, Sometimes, Forever, the follow-up to 2020’s widely praised Color Theory, is coming out on June 24th. More surprisingly however, is that the album is produced by experimental electronic luminary Daniel Lopatin of Oneohtrix Point Never. Really, it’s as surprising for Soccer Mommy’s sonic palette as it is for Lopatin’s. The producer has been behind the boards for albums from FKA Twigs, The Weeknd, Moses Sumney, Anonhi, and Charli XCX, so a foray into working with an artist in bedroom-forged indie rock is a new wrinkle. Color us intrigued on all fronts.
Sometimes, Forever of course promises experimentation from Nashville’s Soccer Mommy fronted by singer Sophie Allison. “Shotgun” is the newly-released lead single and it shows a slow burn towards that sonic shift. It’s predicated on reverbed drums and a tipsy synth, along with Allison’s guitar and splendid vocals.
“‘Shotgun’ is all about the joys of losing yourself in love,” says Allison in a statement. “I wanted it to capture the little moments in a relationship that stick with you.”
The song’s video shows an artist who is clearly trying to make sense of the constant stimuli that surrounds her as she sinks deeper into her career. This is an unpredictable turn for the Soccer Mommy arc, but undoubtedly an exciting one. In the meantime, Soccer Mommy is currently on a US tour and just announced UK and EU dates.

Barrie Lindsay, who takes on her first name as her musical moniker, released her debut album Happy To Be Here as a five-piece band. But for her introspective sophomore effort Barbara, Barrie parted ways with her bandmates and opted to self-produce the LP. The move was made to reconnect with her musical intuitions and in order to battle the self-censoring that would occur in collaborative songwriting sessions.
Barbara was written in a tumultuous time for the musician. She met her now-wife in 2019 just before she learned her father’s cancer had worsened. Then, the pandemic hit. So, she decided to pour all these complicated emotions into her craft. Barrie wrote songs that allowed her to actually feel her emotions, something she had “never done before in music.” The result is a collection of eleven tracks that unintentionally revolve around themes of love and grief. Barrie is able to move fluidly between sparkling indie rock tunes and ethereal, pop-leaning tracks, singing about everything from bittersweet love ballads to compelling reflections on family.
Ahead of the release of Barbara, Barrie sat down with Uproxx to her musical inspirations, her love of Sheryl Crow, and more on the latest Indie Mixtape 20 Q&A.

Donald Trump Jr. wants to be the next tech billionaire. And his plan to do just that isn’t by attempting to become the next Google or Apple, or even the next Facebook or Twitter—as his father has so desperately wanted with TRUTH Social (where he has posted exactly once). Nope, Junior wants to become the next… Matt Drudge?
Unless you watched Impeachment, the latest season of American Crime Story, you’re probably thinking: “Wait, who is Matt Drudge again?” He’s basically a blogger whose name became front-page news in the 1990s for breaking the news that Bill Clinton had engaged in a scandalous affair with a White House intern. Some additional scoops followed, but Drudge’s relevance in today’s 24/7 news and social media-led world is waning, and Junior’s hoping to swoop in and scavenge what’s leftover.
As Axios reports, his plan is to create a news aggregation app that mobile users in particular can keep handy to keep up with what’s happening in the news (or at least what they determine to be “news”). Called MxM News (for Minute-by-Minute), Axios writes that the company “is looking to disrupt the mobile news space similar to how Drudge disrupted web publishing and Fox News disrupted cable television in the 1990s.”
Wow—those are two terrible outlets to want to emulate, but to each his own.
Tired of the monopoly that Apple News and Big Tech has over your news? Download my new app right now for free. Mainstream News without Mainstream Bias right from your iPhone! https://t.co/OzwhCiyL2dpic.twitter.com/ppmcMhBH5C
Whether or not Junior fails, it’s hard to imagine that MxM News could be as abject a failure as TRUTH Social, the long-threatened social media network that Trump the Elder created and has attempted to launch on a few different occasions now, with each attempt seemingly more disastrous than the time before. It’s gotten so bad that not even the former president, who was permanently banned from Twitter more than a year ago over his role in the January 6th attacks on the Capitol, isn’t even using his own site anymore. Add TRUTH Social the very, very long list of failed Trump businesses—and maybe keep a space open for MxM News while you’re at it, just in case.
Tucker Carlson is back on his bullsh*t. It was less than three weeks ago, following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he had chosen Ketanji Brown Jackson to replace U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Stephen Breyer, whom Jackson had previously clerked for. Almost immediately, Carlson began asking questions about whether Jackson was actually qualified for the job, and demanded that the public be made privy to her LSAT scores.
Those scores were never shared, and while Jackson is in the thick of her confirmation hearings—hearings that have given viewers an even deeper insight into the rampant racism, and sexism, that runs wild through the halls of the Senate. When she wasn’t watching Lindsey Graham storm out of the hearing in a huff, Jackson was being asked to define what a “woman” is by Marsha Blackburn and whether babies are “racist” by total joke of a human being Ted Cruz. And she took it all in stride, which should tell us something about her temperament. Tet, on Tuesday night, Carlson was still demanding to see the results of Jackson’s LSATs—a test she would have taken 30 years ago, and clearly did well enough on to be accepted into Harvard Law School, where she was a supervising editor on the Harvard Law Review. But nope, none of that is good enough for Tucker!
“[Joe] Biden, sounding a touch defensive, has described Ketanji Brown Jackson as one of this country’s great legal minds. And we certainly want to believe that, for real, given that she’s going to probably be confirmed no matter what we think. The question is: Is it true? Is she really one of this country’s great legal minds? One way to know, one indication, would be her LSAT scores. The LSAT is not a knowledge test, it measures logic and reasoning ability, and no one doubts it’s an accurate measure of those things, which predict legal skills. And that’s why law schools have long used that test.
“So how did Ketanji Brown Jackson do on the LSATs? Sorry, you’re not allowed to ask. Because asking is racism.”
Tucker: Is she really one of this country’s great legal minds? One way to know, one indication would be her LSAT scores… pic.twitter.com/26siMtERcd
Well, yeah, it is. At least it is in Carlson’s case, as he’s suggesting that we don’t know Jackson’s LSAT scores because she has something to hide. But, as Ross A. Lincoln writes for The Wrap, “We don’t know the LSAT of any practicing attorney or judge, unless they choose to disclose it. That’s because LSAT results aren’t made public. The LSAT—the Law School Admissions Test—is only required to get into law school. It has no other impact on whether someone gets to become a lawyer. That will… depend on grades, class standing, and of course, passing the bar.”
Why else is it kind of racist when it’s Carlson asking the question? Well, because between 2017 and 2020, Donald Trump appointed three people to the Supreme Court—Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh (who was accused of sexual assault, shouted throughout his hearing, and won the nomination anyway), and Amy Coney Barrett—and not once did Carlson think it was important that we know their LSAT scores (which would be the equivalent of an employer asking you for your SAT scores as a condition of employment, even when you have nearly 30 years of experience).
So, yes, Tucker: When you only seem to question the law school admission test score of the first Black woman nominated to the Supreme Court while blatantly ignoring her virtually sterling academic record, that is probably racist.
