Selena Gomez Apologizes For ‘Mocking’ Hailey Bieber In A New TikTok

If you’re looking for some low-stakes, high school drama, you’re in luck! We’ve got a fun one for you.

Despite doing her best to stay off social media, Selena Gomez still manages to get roped into some good old-fashion drama, and most of the time it’s brought upon by fans of her ex, Justin Bieber, and his wife Hailey. Gomez and Bieber (Hailey) have a complex history, according to their fans. In real life, they probably don’t think much about each other, but the internet loves drama, so there it is.

After Hailey posted a “get ready with me” TikTok (for the uninformed, it’s just a video of a person doing their makeup), Gomez also posted one of herself doing her makeup. Harmless, right? Not so much. Bieber fans accused Gomez of “mocking” Hailey’s video, saying she was “rolling her eyes” while applying makeup. Drama began to brew in Gomez’ comment section, to which she said: “Guys no idea what I did but I really am sorry. Zero bad intention. Deleting soon.” Gomez kept the video up but turned off comments.

Here’s the thing: the two starlets both have makeup lines (Rhode, Hailey Bieber’s line, launches later this year, Gomez’ brand Rare launched in 2020), and these harmless videos were made to show off their makeup skills. Hailey has said many times that there is no hate between the two of them and asked fans to leave her alone. Gomez even stays off social media because of all the toxicity.

Moral of the story? There is no shade here! Perhaps Gomez was right when she said we should all log off! Forever! Go outside and enjoy the day!

Nets GM Sean Marks Thinks The Team’s Culture ‘Isn’t What It Quite Was’ But Is Optimistic That Will Change

The Brooklyn Nets had a tumultuous 2021-22 campaign that saw them make the playoffs via the play-in tournament before getting swept in the first round by the Boston Celtics. The season was largely defined not by their play on the court, but instead, by things like Kyrie Irving’s inability to play for long stretches of the year due to his decision to not get vaccinated against COVID-19 and everything surrounding the James Harden-for-Ben Simmons trade.

Because the team had aspirations of winning a championship at every turn and came up so spectacularly short, there have been questions asked about all the potential things that went wrong. One question posed to general manager Sean Marks during his end of season press conference on Wednesday was whether or not the franchise leaned too hard into player empowerment as a standard operating procedure, and Marks took some time to talk about the team’s overall culture.

Marks spent some time diving into how “your culture’s never done,” and how if they stuck exactly to the culture they built up during his first few years at the helm without trying to evolve, “it would have been a failure.” After mentioning that the challenges of building a roster around a pair of max players means they will look a little different every year, Marks explained that there are challenges the Nets will need to address.

“The culture is always gonna change and tweak as to who comes in here,” Marks said. “Did we take a step back? Without a doubt, without a doubt. The culture isn’t what it quite was, and it’s gonna be our job to pick that up. And between Steve [Nash] and myself, as leaders of that, we will certainly be doing that.

“But again, we’ve got to find the players again that are gonna drive that culture,” Marks continued. “It has to be driven by players. It cannot be driven by one or two people, it’s gotta be driven by the players, they’ve gotta want it, we’ve gotta find players, again, that have the characteristics that support that — which is gonna be a little bit of that grit and determination and fight.”

Sarah Silverman Finds It Awfully ‘Odd’ That People Expect More From Comedians Than Elected Officials

Sarah Silverman stopped by The View on Wednesday morning where she discussed both the infamous Oscars slap as well as the pending Supreme Court ruling that could overturn Roe v. Wade. To kick things off, the outspoken comedian was asked if she’s terrified about performing on stage after both Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle were attacked in the past month. Silverman said she’s not worried at all and doesn’t see the attacks becoming commonplace. However, she did find it strange that people were heavily scrutinizing the two events.

“I do think that people have higher expectations of their comedians than their representatives, and it’s very odd, you know?” Silverman said.

Later, Silverman fielded a question on abortion rights, and she had a lot to say about the topic. When the comedian was asked by Sunny Hostin why she said after the leak was revealed that she “can and can’t believe this is happening,” Silverman explained her thought process.

“You know, they’ve been chipping away, bit by bit, quietly state by state at women’s rights and… it’s a war against the poor,” Silverman said. “Women of means will always be able to have abortions. Dangerous abortions will take place. It’s just bizarre that the same people that want government out of our lives want it in our uteruses.”

Silverman was asked by Joy Behar if she thinks this will motivate women to vote in November, the comedian admitted to having the same hope. “In all of the trembling from waking up that morning, you go, ‘I wonder if this will help us in the midterms…’ But I don’t know,’ Silverman said. “It’s pretty far out. It’s dystopian. The progress to devolution ratio going on in our lifetime is pretty wild.”

How Marvel’s ‘Moon Knight’ teaches us to embrace all our selves

The great thing about Marvel is: even if you’re exhausted with superhero movies (it’s okay, I am too) the franchise often sprinkles their mega fights and formulaic plots with thought provoking, empathetic character studies.

In the recent limited (or maybe not so limited) series “Moon Knight”, the hero Marc Spector has Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), a mental condition where a person has at least two or more distinct personalities. As with any piece of art made public, there has been criticism of the show, in particular of the accuracy of its portrayal of DID.

However, the negative feedback misses Moon Knight’s ultimate success: Marc’s story not only inspires compassion for mental illness, it also shows us that sometimes the biggest battle we face is simply loving ourselves entirely.

Warning: Spoilers for the series below!

For most of the show, Marc’s alternate personality Steven Grant is the primary protagonist. Until the penultimate episode, when we learn he was created by Marc to help escape his painful childhood.

After the tragic death of his younger brother, who drowned in a cave while the two were playing, Marc’s mother blamed him for the loss. Her resentment forced him to endure severe neglect, abuse, and cruelty while internalizing his own guilt.

While in reality DID is much more complex, “Moon Knight” does faithfully capture the healing made possible through opening up about our trauma and mental illness. As both characters face the truth together, both Marc and Steven are able to reconcile. In the end, they are no longer at odds—they become brothers.

In the final episode’s emotional climax, we see Marc, a man bestowed with magical fighting abilities, turn to Steven, the creation forged by his own suffering, and whisper:

“You are the only real superpower I ever had.”

In this hard won victory of self-acceptance; Marc’s heart becomes whole again.

In my personal life, I’m a practitioner of EFT, a healing modality that blends aspects of both psychotherapy and acupressure. In EFT, there’s a concept of “bringing love to the pain.” In a session with a coach, or by themselves, a person visualizes a traumatic memory from childhood. As they tap on their body—where trauma often gets stuck—they repeat phrases like “even though this happened, I still love and accept myself.”

The idea is that by repeating these positive phrases out loud while simultaneously releasing stored negative energy in the body, we can rewire our brains to stop repeating the same story associated with those memories. It might sound a little woo-woo, but there’s quite a bit of scientific evidence showing how effective EFT can be. Sometimes all it takes is genuine love and forgiveness for ourselves. It’s simple, but not always easy. Even Marc had to go through Egyptian Hell to achieve it.

Regardless of a mental health diagnosis, this is a universal challenge. How many of us can look into the mirror and truly love everything that we see?

For some, perhaps even for most, this is a lifelong process. But “Moon Knight” teaches is that self acceptance has profound benefits on our character.

No Offense To Robert Pattinson And Zoe Kravitz, But ‘Jackass Forever’ Should Win Best Kiss At The 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards

Ever since the Spike Guys Choice Awards was carried through the gates of Valhalla to ride eternal, shiny and smelling like Axe body spray, the most chaotic (and therefore, most enjoyable) award show is the MTV Movie & TV Awards. Where else can you find Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short pitted against Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, and Brad Pitt other than Best Fight? Or how about The Batman‘s Colin Farrell vs. You‘s Victoria Pedretti vs. Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s Willem Dafoe for Best Villain?

But my personal favorite category is Best Kiss, where previous winners include Anna Chlumsky and Macaulay Culkin for My Girl, Jason Biggs and Seann William Scott for American Pie 2, and Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who won four years in a row (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 was robbed). Pattinson is again up for Best Kiss at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards, this time for his sexy smooch with The Batman co-star Zoe Kravitz. But doesn’t he have enough? He’s freaking Batman and has worked with all your favorite directors. Give Best Kiss to the couple that deserves it:

Jackass Forever‘s Poopsies and snake were nominated for Best Kiss, along with Pattinson and Kravitz, Hunter Schafer and Dominic Fike for Euphoria, Lily Collins and Lucien Laviscount for Emily in Paris, and Tom Holland and Zendaya for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Holland and Zendaya will probably win, even though Poopsies and snake have the most electric on-screen chemistry since Rachel Wolfson and this taser. Shame.

John Mulaney Mocked NYC Mayor Eric Adams To His Face Over His Subway Vendor Crackdowns: ‘Were You Dumped As A Teen At A Subway Barbecue?’

New York Mayor Eric Adams has done some questionable things lately, and many New Yorkers are not having it. One New Yorker in particular, John Mulaney, joined in on the fun and decided to drag Adams for his bizarre stance on subway vendors.

Earlier this week, Adams defended the arrest of a woman selling mangoes on the subway, which is probably the least offensive thing that has ever happened on a New York City subway. “You just can’t do that,” Adams stated at a press conference, referring to the clearly non-dangerous act of fruit selling. “Next day, it’s propane tanks being used on the subway system. The next day, it’s barbecuing on the subway system.” Mulaney took this and ran with it.

“Hey, Mayor Adams, what are you talking about?” Mulaney said while on stage at the Robin Hood Gala. “What is a subway barbecue, and why do you hate them so much?” It should be noted that Mayor Adams was in the audience at the gala, so Mulaney was asking quite literally. “Were you dumped as a teen at a subway barbecue?” the comedian continued.

“Mayor Adams always addresses two problems and then a crazy one: No guns, no crime, no barbecues on the subway! Better schools, better transportation, no more volleyball games on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway!” Mulaney joked, with lots of laughs from the crowd. It’s unclear if Adams was also laughing, or decided to go for a perfectly-timed bathroom break. Besides, we all know Mulaney is a proud supporter of doing weird stuff on subway platforms.

Fans Seem To Think Katy Perry’s New Movie Is Inspired By Her Feud With Taylor Swift

Katy Perry is set to star in a new movie called Melody, directed by Jeremy Zag. In the movie, Perry plays the titular character, a pop star with several bops to her credit.

According to Deadline, “Melody is a kind-hearted, insecure singer who must overcome the evil plans of Rose Stellar, a jealous wicked pop queen who has vowed to destroy her. Set against the backdrop of New York City, Melody will take audiences on an adventure of song, laughter, and heroic quest. In her arsenal, Melody has seven musical notes that set her apart and have magical qualities, and help guide her moral compass. Perry is writing and performing songs for the film, and sparked to the themes of self-discovery and self-belief that is key to the fulfillment of life dreams like the one she is living.”

Upon the movie’s announcement, fans ran with the oddly specific plotline and immediately theorized that the film is inspired by Perry’s past feud with Taylor Swift.

“Is Taylor Swift going to play the villain?” asked Twitter user @boomattel

Twitter user @kiramadeira went as far as to call it “Katy Perry and Taylor Swift: The Movie”

Rumors of a feud between Perry and Swift began back in 2014 when Swift released her album, 1989. 1989 contained the Billboard No. 1 hit single, “Bad Blood,” which was rumored to be about Perry. Perry’s 2017 single “Swish Swish” from her album Witness is thought to be a response to “Bad Blood.”

The two have since put their alleged feud behind them, as Perry made an appearance in Swift’s music video for “You Need To Calm Down” from her 2019 album, Lover.

All The Best New R&B From This Week That You Need To Hear

Sometimes the best new R&B can be hard to find, but there are plenty of great rhythm-and-blues tunes to get into if you have the time to sift through the hundreds of newly released songs every week. So that R&B heads can focus on listening to what they really love in its true form, we’ll be offering a digest of the best new R&B songs that fans of the genre should hear every Friday.

This week is led by Ella Mai who makes her long-awaited return with her sophomore album Heart On My Sleeve. It’s a 15-track project complete with features from Latto, Roddy Ricch, Mary J. Blige, and Lucky Daye. Elsewhere, we have a pair of long-awaited singles, one from SiR who returns with “Satisfaction” and the other from Roy Woods who arrives with “Insecure.”

Ella Mai — Heart On My Sleeve

It’s been a while since we received a full body of work from Ella Mai, with that being her 2018 self-titled debut. Years removed from her “Boo’d Up” viral moment, Mai is back with her sophomore album and it presents a strong collection of heartfelt and lovelorn records. Additionally, through the album’s 15 songs, we hear appearances from Roddy Ricch, Latto, and Lucky Daye.

SiR — “Satisfaction”

SiR is another artist who’s been away from the music world for quite some time. The Inglewood singer’s latest single came in 2020 with “Rapper Weed” alongside Westside Boogie, which arrived after his flawless 2019 album Chasing Summer. With his fourth album hopefully on the way, SiR arrives with the sultry and passionate “Satisfaction” for fans to indulge in.

Roy Woods — “Insecure”

This week’s column is led by artists who have been absent for a while, and to round out that list within a list, we have Roy Woods. The OVO singer last gave us a project in 2020 with Dem Times. Since then, he’s sprinkled some singles here and there, but the hope is that his latest single, “Insecure,” is a sign of a more permanent return.

Col3trane — Lush Life

Almost three years after his last solo project, Lush Life, singer Col3trane is back to work with his latest project Lush Life. It strikes as his fourth full-length body of work as it delivered 12 songs and contributions from Lucky Daye, Flatbush Zombies, and Erik The Architect.

Kenyon Dixon — Closer

Kenyon Dixon wanted no time getting to work with new music in 2022 and he kicked off the year with “Love On Replay” and “Get High, Get By.” Now those two releases have a new home as he returns with his new project Closer. This soulful and rich body of work arrives 12 songs and contributions from Tiffany Gouche, D Smoke, Susan Carlo, and Gwen Bunn.

Yuna — Y2

In March, Yuna kicked off the rollout towards her fifth album Y5 by announcing that she’d release the project in five parts. Y1 arrived in March with four songs and now she’s back with Y2. It brings three more songs into the mix for a grand total of seven offerings from Y5

Brandon Banks — “Wonderland”

One of Inglewood’s finest singers Brandon Banks is back with his third single of the year. After a quiet 2021 that followed a 2020 year highlighted by his excellent Static project, Banks dishes out “Wonderland” to join the previously released “Get On” and Tryin’” that have carried his 2022 campaign.

Alex Vaughn — Voice Notes

One of LVRN’s newest signees Alex Vaughn returns with a quickstrike project. Voice Notes is compiled of three songs that are just that — voice notes of rough and raw songs that Vaughn has plated for the world to enjoy in a moment of vulnerability. It’s also a unique follow up to the stellar “Mirage.”

Ogi — Monolouges

Chicago-born Nigerian singer Ogi is taking her first big step into the spotlight with Monolouges. The 6-track project is a completely solo effort and it is one that Ogi says is her “outlet to say what I really felt about something but didn’t say because my feelings didn’t fit the script.” Altogether, Monolouges is a truly rich project that reminds me of Nicole Bus’ Kairos.

Sabrina Claudio — Based On A Feeling

Following 2019’s Truth Is, Sabrina Claudio bares a bit more skin on her third album Based On A Feeling. Unlike her prior two full-length projects, Based On A Feeling arrives without a guest feature across its 11 songs, but it’s still carried by Claudio’s soft and gentle vocals.

Naomi Wild — “Whose Love” Feat. Tempest

Younger singers Naomi Wild and Tempest brought their talents together to create a drift ode to heartbreak on their new single “Whose Love.” It’s one that may have gone under the radar for you, but it’s absolutely worth your attention. As Naomi describes it, “Whose Love” is about the “cycles of something not working out,” through the stages of denial, heartbreak, and the glorious realization of one’s true worth.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Jack Harlow Was Flabbergasted To Learn Brandy And Ray J Are Siblings

Are the Zoomers doing a bit? I’m seriously asking. It was one thing when Ray J trended on Twitter last year because people “discovered” that he’s Brandy‘s younger brother, but now the sibling singers’ industry peers are just now finding this out? Something fishy is afoot. They’re messing with us because we’re “old.” They have to be. It’s the only explanation I will accept at this point.

Jack Harlow, who is currently on a press tour to promote his new album, Come Home The Kids Miss You, was at Hot 97’s studios in New York being interviewed by Ebro and Peter Rosenberg when they challenged him to identify a ’90s R&B hit. This is a relevant challenge because, as I pointed out in my review of Come Home…, Harlow’s been leaning heavily on turn-of-the-millennium samples as he attempts to shepherd hip-hop into its next stylistic era. The song in question was “Angel In Disguise” by Brandy, but as that song came out 1998, the year Jack Harlow was born, he understandably needed a few hints.

One of those hints was about Moesha, Brandy’s mid-’90s sitcom featuring Ray J. Harlow was still stumped, prompting the hosts to suggest a tidbit about Ray J’s sex tape. Harlow’s response, “Who’s Ray J’s sister?” sends the hosts into hysterics as Jack finds out for the “first time” that Brandy and Ray J are siblings. As an added bonus, Rosenberg even predicts the segment’s breakout potential. But let’s be honest here… you clicked. All in all, it’s an enjoyable reminder that time comes for us all eventually — the least we can do is laugh about it. Check out the clip below.
