Megan The Stallion Recalls Working With Dua Lipa: ‘She Felt Like A Familiar Spirit’

Ahead of her Future Nostalgia tour, Dua Lipa linked up with Megan The Stallion to record their sugary collaboration, “Sweetest Pie.” In a profile on Lipa for Vogue, Megan, who is opening for Lipa on select dates of the Future Nostalgia tour, recalled working with the “Levitating” singer on their collaboration.

During their sessions, Megan said she and Lipa formed a friendship that felt natural.

“When somebody is so gorgeous and established, you don’t know what to expect,” Megan said. “A lot of ladies can be divas. But Dua is just so nice. She felt like a familiar spirit. We have an unspoken bond, it’s not even anything we need to discuss. Sometimes people get the wrong idea about me, too. But once you meet me, you’re like, Oh! This is my homegirl.”

Also in the profile, “Sweetest Pie’s” co-writer Clarence Coffee, who also co-wrote “Levitating,” took time to speak on Lipa’s craft.

“I wish more people could see how she is as an artist in a room,” Coffee said. “She has incredible ideas, she’s a great lyricist, and she’s a beast with melodies.”

Lauren Boebert Tried To Be Clever With A ‘Cow Flatulence’ Tweet, Which Went Over About As Classily As Expected

Rootin’ tootin’ Lauren Boebert’s feeling tooted up in a new way, which is perhaps a natural turn in events (after tweeting to a user named @CatTurd2) because she’s actually tweeting about tooting. Yes, it’s all coming full circle.

To briefly recap Boebert’s adventures, she’s very excited about Elon Musk buying Twitter and putting “free speech absolutism” into motion. She’s also all fired up about the leaked Supreme Court draft indicating that Roe v. Wade will be overturned, and that led (coupled with her distaste for the term “birthing person”) to a sarcastic Sunday tweet to the effect of “Do we still need to be a biologist to wish moms a Happy Mother’s Day?” She’s certainly not brushed up on the U.S. Constitution, but that doesn’t deter Boebert as she sets her sights on the November midterms.

The Rifle Republican has been bashing the Left even more than usual while reacting to Attorney General Merrick Garland’s announcement of a new Office of Environmental Justice. Yes, these sorts of things are always greeted with some skepticism. I mean, look at Trump’s famed Space Force branch of military, which Boebert readily embraced. She has, however, decided that the Biden administrative’s addition is dumb and decided to greet it with a fart joke, “What’s the ‘Office of Environmental Justice’ even going to do, issue cow flatulence fines?”

Classy as always. As Reuters recently reported, however, satellites recently discovered that cow burps (especially in the Joaquin Valley) are an even bigger source of methane emissions than cow flatulence. So, wrong kind of toots! People had receipts for Boebert, too.

Tom Brady Will Join Fox As Their Lead NFL Analyst When He Retires For Good

When ESPN poached Joe Buck and Troy Aikman from Fox this offseason to finally give them a high-profile Monday Night Football booth, it appeared Fox might be the odd man out in the NFL analyst arms race. Tony Romo had recently re-upped with CBS on a monster 10-year, $180 million deal, Aikman got the same annual money (on five years instead of 10) with ESPN, and for better or worse, NBC had locked in Drew Brees after his retirement.

With Peyton Manning locked in to his ESPN deal to do the Manningcast 10 times a year with brother Eli, there didn’t appear to be a lot big fish left to catch (with Sean Payton getting some buzz but nothing coming of it), particularly with Tom Brady headed back to Tampa for at least one more season. However, while moving forward this year with Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen as the lead booth, Fox wasn’t willing to give up that easily on landing a splashy name, and on Tuesday announced that Brady would be joining their crew as the lead analyst whenever he really did retire for good.

It’s huge news for a few reasons, one that they got Brady to do what Manning wouldn’t, which is commit to being on the road every week during the season. Part of why Manning remained the white whale of the NFL TV business is that he didn’t want that much commitment to the grind, and many wondered if Brady would have a similar outlook on retired life. Money talks, even to someone who has piled up plenty in career earnings, and according to Mike McCarthy of Front Office Sports, Brady will become the highest paid analyst in the NFL at $20-25 million per year, with an expected contract length of more than five years.

That’s a serious commitment to the booth, and while we don’t really know how good Brady will be, it’s a safe bet that he will at least draw eyeballs given his stature as arguably the best to ever play the quarterback position.

All The Best New Pop Music From This Week

This week had a lot going on, from the Met Gala where Billie Eilish enjoyed judging her fellow celebrities and Lizzo played a flute on the red carpet, to a batch of awesome releases. Bad Bunny unveiled his highly anticipated album Un Verano Sin Ti and Taylor Swift sent waves of excitement through the internet with “This Love (Taylor’s Version).”

Each week, Uproxx rounds up the best new pop releases. Listen up.

Lady Gaga — “Holy My Hand”

“When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick, I didn’t even realize the multiple layers it spanned across the film’s heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we’ve been living in,” Lady Gaga said on Instagram. This depth and passion are evident in her heartfelt, rich vocals as she sings words of devotion: “But if you decide to, I’ll ride in this life with you, I won’t let go ’til the end.” It’s one of her most powerful, poignant songs yet.

Carly Rae Jepsen – “Western Wind”

Carly Rae Jepsen is back with her first new material in two years. She’s more tranquil than ever on this new song “Western Wind,” cooing against tame, free-floating rhythms, and walking through a field in the music video. There’s almost a sense of spirituality: “First bloom, you know it’s spring / Reminding me love that it’s all connected,” she sings softly, as if she’s reached a kind of nirvana.

Sigrid – “A Driver Saved My Night”

Norwegian singer Sigrid has been an unstoppable force lately. From eclectic collaborations to the release of her new album How To Let Go, she’s on her way to world domination. Her music, though, speaks for itself; this track “A Driver Saved My Night” is an addictive spurt of alt-pop, similar to Marina or Sir Chloe. It has exciting melodies and a memorable personality.

Chappell Roan – “My Kink Is Karma”

Chappell Roan is not holding back at all on this new track “My Kink Is Karma.” It’s startling from the start as she sets the scene, singing: “We broke up on a Tuesday / Kicked me out with the rent paid / Ruined my credit, stole my cute aesthetic.” The song is buoyant and groovy; her vocals are unforgiving as she rolls out diss after diss: “You’re losing it lately / Moved back with your parents / And date girls who’re eighteen.”

Bad Bunny – “Moscow Mule”

Picking just one notable song from Bad Bunny’s new album isn’t easy. But “Moscow Mule” is catchy and immersive for all of its four minutes, and it comes with a compelling — and quite revealing — music video as well. Its summer vibes will surely have radio stations playing it on repeat.

Taylor Swift – “This Love (Taylor’s Version)”

After teasing the song, Taylor Swift generously shared the sprawling new version of the 1989 track “This Love,” which started off as a poem. She sings patiently and weightlessly, making every word count and imbuing the song with a sense of higher stakes.

Tove Lo – “No One Dies From Love”

Tove Lo’s futuristic new song “No One Dies From Love” is about dedication, “No one dies from love / Guess I’ll be the first,” she repeats. She sings to an AI robot in the music video, dancing with the metallic being and even playing tennis with it. It’s a self-proclaimed “musical sci-fi love story,” which also sums up the sound of Tove Lo’s music pretty well.

Stonebwoy – “Therapy”

Stonebwoy is a Grammy-nominee praised for his Afro-pop songs. This track is a great example of his talent at crafting layered, beautiful music that’s buoyed by soft rhythms that make the listener want to move with gorgeous vocals to top it off. It clocks in at three minutes, reveling in its brevity and simplicity.

DNCE – “Move”

Every time DNCE release a new song, the world is blessed with a new summer anthem. The feel-good vibes are endless. Against a ’70s sound, the band sings: “All I’m trying to do is make you get up out that chair and make you move, / Make you move,” which is their perpetual mission. They succeed.

Lehla Samia – “Call On Me”

Lehla Samia’s voice can make anything sound amazing, making “Call On Me” seem effortlessly perfect. Her proclamations of love are magical when she sings: “You’re the one for me / Baby you’re the one for me,” and the sound overall is engaging and exuberant, full of excitement for the future.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Inspired by her grandmother, this nurse refuses to let fear stand in her way

Have you ever wondered what drives nurses to do what they do? We took a walk in one nurse’s shoes to get a better understanding of what makes her truly remarkable.

Emily Danz of Fort Lee, New Jersey, grew up watching her Yiayia (“grandmother” in Greek), battle heart disease. As a child, she listened with curiosity and amazement as the doctors explained cardiac procedures and outcomes to her family.

Then, when she was old enough to drive, Danz became responsible for taking Yiayia to and from her doctor’s appointments and hospital visits.

Inspired by all she learned about her grandmother’s journey, Danz decided to enter nursing school after graduating high school—a decision that made her grandmother burst with pride.

“She told me when I graduated nurse practitioner school that it was one of the greatest things she witnessed in all 89 years of her life,” said Danz. “She knew I’d go far and do well.”

And she has. Nurse Danz has used her childhood experiences as an onlooker to her grandmother’s care as a springboard into caring for others. The very first patient she cared for after graduating nursing school in 2014 was suffering from an active tuberculosis infection. Although tuberculosis is curable and preventable, it’s also highly contagious and transmittable by air. It takes the inhalation of only a few of these germs to become infected.

“I remember being petrified to walk into that room,” said Danz.

Fortunately, an experienced nurse mentor gave her a pep talk that she will never forget—in fact, she says, it shaped the entire trajectory of her career.

“[She told] me not to be afraid and that caring for a tuberculosis patient is like caring for any other patient, but just with a special mask and gown. From that day on, I realized that there was no reason to ever be afraid or scared of a patient, and I actually took care of that patient every time I worked for the entirety of their stay — which was over three months.”

Years later when she found herself working in a hospital during a global pandemic, Nurse Danz channeled that early experience to get her through the fear of caring for patients infected with COVID-19.

“When I was assigned [my first] COVID patient, it was like my very first day of nursing all over again … my mind quickly traveled to the pep talk I was given and reminded me of the oath I took to care for patients no matter the situation,” said Danz. “I continue to carry this empathy with me every day for every single patient I care for—it is something instilled in me.”

Danz, who has also become an instructor to nursing students in their last year of nursing school, recognizes the importance of seeing every patient as an individual and not just a number. She teaches these students bedside clinical skills and medication administration, focusing clearly on arming them with the confidence to interact with patients comfortably, no matter the situation.

“From day one, I learned not to be afraid and it has helped me tremendously throughout my career. In every single class, I make sure to tell my students stories, events and real-life scenarios I’ve been through to prepare and engage them. It is imperative that the new nurses coming into the field are confident and empathetic. When you’re afraid, patients sense it and it affects their healing,” said Danz.

The goal of CeraVe’s Heroes Behind the Masks Chapter 2: A Walk In Our Shoes campaign is to highlight exceptional nurses like Nurse Danz and recognize the profound impact they have on their patients and communities. Follow along this week for more stories and to learn about CeraVe’s ongoing commitment to the nurse community here.

Diddy Launches His R&B-Focused Label, Love Records, In Partnership With Motown

Last summer, Diddy announced that he is putting out an R&B album, as well as launching an R&B-focused music label. Today, he officially revealed the label’s name, Love Records. The label was started in partnership with Motown Records, and Diddy’s upcoming album will be its first release. According to a statement from the label in Variety, the focus will initially be to “release singles and collaborative projects from a collective of world-class artists, producers, and songwriters.”

Diddy previously cited his inspiration in launching the new label, saying, “I feel like R&B was abandoned and it’s a part of our African American culture.” Meanwhile, he also intends to try a new business model, rather than locking artists into deals for a cut of the profits. “I’m not signing any artists,” he said. “Because if you know better, you do better. I’m doing 50–50 partnerships with pure transparency.”

The music mogul has had plenty of experience in the arena of R&B. Before launching the label for which he’s best known, Bad Boy, he A&Red projects from the likes of Jodeci and Mary J. Blige at Uptown Records. That experience should serve him well as he and Love Records — which he’s sort of named after himself — prepare for the release of his first album in seven years, Off The Grid Vol. 1.

Netflix May Introduce Ads (And A Crackdown On Password Sharing) Sooner Than Expected

In September 2020, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings vowed that the streaming service would stay ad-free. Then Insatiable-gate happened, and everything changed. Amidst rising subscription costs, password crackdowns, and employee walkouts, Netflix may soon offer an ad-supported subscription plan — much sooner, in fact, than anyone expected.

The New York Times reports that “Netflix could introduce its lower-priced ad-supported tier by the end of the year, a more accelerated timeline than originally indicated, the company told employees in a recent note… Netflix executives said that they were aiming to introduce the ad tier in the final three months of the year.” The letter also revealed that the extra cost for password sharing could go into effect around the same time.

Netflix currently offers a variety of payment tiers to access its streaming service; its most popular plan costs $15.49 a month. The new ad-supported tier will cost less. Other streaming services have similar plans. HBO Max, for instance, offers a commercial-free service for $15 a month, and charges $10 a month for the service with advertising.

“Every major streaming company excluding Apple has or has announced an ad-supported service,” the note reads. “For good reason, people want lower-priced options.” They also want more The Baby-Sitters Club and less cake-focused game shows, but I guess it’s too late for that.

Tina Fey Recalled A Very Bizarre Incident Where Kevin Spacey Tried To Hit On Her

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have been through a lot together. Though they began working together on Saturday Night Live in 2001, they originally met back in the early 1990s, and have continued to be part of each other’s lives ever since. On Saturday night, as The Hollywood Reporter wrote, the comedic duo sat down to discuss both their personal and professional lives for an “In Conversation” event that closed out the Netflix Is a Joke Festival.

The topics they discussed for the 75-minute event varied, but were dictated by a series of prompts written on paper and stuffed into a bunch of bowls. The first question turned out to be a great one: Who is the most famous person to ever hit on you?

While Poehler joked that John McCain seemed to take a liking to her (no doubt Meghan McCain will find a way to bring that up and make it all about her), Fey shared a rather bizarre story that left her utterly confused. “This is the kind of weird thing that used to happen to me,” she said. “One time when he was hosting SNL, at the after-party, it was late and Kevin Spacey tried to hit on me. I was like, ‘Who is this for? Who is this little performance for?’”

Fey’s confusion at the unexpected flirtation is understandable. Though Spacey’s sexuality was the object of much speculation for many years, the actor refused to comment on the topic, which seemed to only make some people more interested in the answer. It wasn’t until 2017, after Star Trek: Discovery star Anthony Rapp claimed that when he was just 14 years old, Spacey attempted to seduce him in an inappropriate and somewhat aggressive manner.

Spacey didn’t do himself any favors when, by way of apologizing to Rapp, came out as gay. As if that explained the reason behind what Spacey himself described as “deeply inappropriate drunken behavior” toward a teenager.

As for Fey and Poehler, they shared that while they generally go for different types of guys, they do have one shared crush: 1970s John Travolta. “He can get it,” Poehler said.
