Everything Coming To (And Leaving) HBO And HBO Max In August

Thank the old gods and the new because HBO just dropped it August streaming line up and we’ve got a new George R R Martin fantasy-series to get hooked on.

House of the Dragon is gunning for Game of Thrones’ old spot, taking us back in time to the Golden Age of House Targaryen. Expect fire, expect blood, and yes, expect lots more dragons. Selena Gomez is also bringing back her reality cooking series plus a new season of Industry drops at the beginning of the month.

Here’s everthing coming to (and leaving) HBO and HBO Max this August.

House of the Dragon (HBO original series premiering 8/21)

We’re heading back to Westeros for this prequel series that takes place hundreds of years before the events of Game of Thrones and focuses on the civil war within House Targaryen. Matt Smith and Emma D’Arcy play heirs to the Iron Throne but both must contend with plenty of enemies before they can rise to power. If you came away from GoT wanting more dragons and more of George R R Martin’s input, this one’s for you.

Selena + Chef: Season 4 (HBO Max original series coming soon)

Selena Gomez heads back into the kitchen in her bid to become a capable home chef. No word on when the series will air or who the celebrity guests might be, but if you need a break from the chaos of The Bear and still want to watch good food porn, HBO Max has you covered.

Industry: Season 2 (HBO series streaming 8/1)

While we wait for more Succession, enjoy season two of this underrated corporate drama. This time around, Harper, Yasmin, and Robert must drive new business and make new alliances both in and out of the office as Pierpoint and its junior bankers seek to take every advantage in a post-COVID world.

Central Cee Shares The Quick-Hitting ‘Doja’ With A Video Directed By Cole Bennett

Central Cee has been the next man up in British rap for a minute now. His rise was evident at his packed Wireless Festival set in Birmingham earlier this month, and he debuted a new song that had fans ablaze. On the heels of this year’s 23 mixtape, Shepherd’s Bush native Central Cee has officially released “Doja.” The track arrives with a video directed by Lyrical Lemonade’s Cole Bennett.

Whereas Central Cee’s breakout hit, “Obsessed With You,” sampled Pinkpantheress’s “Just For Me,” the beat from “Doja” flips a sample of Eve and Gwen Stefani’s 2001 bop, “Let Me Blow Ya Mind.” On the quick-hitting track clocks in at just under two minutes, Cench spits, “Somebody tell Doja Cat, that I’m tryna indulge in that. In my grey tracksuit, see the bulge in that, see the motion clap when you’re throwin’ it back.”

The accompanying video marks the first time that Bennett — who has worked on videos for Justin Bieber, Polo G, NLE Choppa, and others — has directed a video for a UK rapper. It speaks to Cench’s growing influence on rap outside of the UK as well as back home in London.

Warriors GM Bob Myers On A Potential KD Reunion: ‘I Like Our Team And Where It’s At’

Kevin Durant is still a member of the Brooklyn Nets despite the fact that he requested a trade last month. Brooklyn reportedly would like to get a bevy of talented players and draft picks back for Durant, with no one meeting that lofty asking price yet. One of Durant’s former teams does seem like it can clear that bar, but according to Bob Myers, the Golden State Warriors don’t seem intent on doing that.

Myers, Golden State’s general manager, told NBA.com while he was at the ESPYs that pursuing Durant isn’t really in the cards, as the team that just won a championship would rather run it back.

“I like our team and where it’s at,” Myers told NBA.com. “I want to give the guys a chance to do it again.”

“It’s a good group. We’re lucky. It’ll be fun to see,” Myers said. “We were really hunting last year. Now I guess we’re back to being the hunted, which I didn’t think we’d be. We’ll see. I think we can handle it.”

Durant, of course, played for the Warriors from from 2016-19 and won a pair of titles with the team, both of which ended with him being named NBA Finals MVP. Much has been made of how Durant’s time with the team ended — for example, Golden State coach Steve Kerr has mentioned that the final year of that team’s run was not easy, telling Sam Amick of The Athletic last year, “when you do something for that long, such a competitive emotional level — five years, and teams trying to knock you off and building their team to beat you, it’s exhausting. And I think we were all just exhausted.”

If the Warriors felt they could navigate a reunion, a package involving Andrew Wiggins, a collection of their promising young players, and all of their draft capital is appealing. But ultimately, that door seems like it is closed.

Say Hello To The Twitter Account Holding Kylie Jenner And Other Stars Accountable For Their Climate-Busting Private Jet Joyrides

It’s 2022, so it should be known that there is no privacy anywhere, ever. But that’s especially true when it comes to celebrities, who have actual Twitter accounts dedicated to knowing their every move. While that’s problematic in its own right, it also gives us normal people (aka, those who aren’t billionaires) a look into what it’s like to be rich. And it looks like being rich is just using all of the earth’s precious resources until they eventually run dry, while also being incredibly insensitive to those around you. It seems hard, right?

Kylie Jenner has been stirring up drama among her fans who seem tired of her flaunting her wealth. Recently, Jenner posted a picture with Travis Scott with the caption “mine or yours” and the duo posing in between their two private jets. This did not land well with Jenner’s target demographic of middle-class millennial women.

Then this week, a Twitter account dedicated to tracking celebrity jets, CelebJets, made note that Jenner also recently took a 17-minute ride across a California suburb, which would be an estimated 45-minute drive, according to Page Six. This is not the first time it’s happened, and people are growing increasingly agitated with the carelessness of celebs as the climate crisis becomes alarming.

CelebJets also lists the amount of fuel used in each flight (they did not provide the stats for Jenner’s 17-minute ride) which shows exactly how much jet fuel and CO2 emissions celebs like Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg go through for their various 30 minutes jet rides. Unsurprisingly, it’s a lot. Spielberg’s recent 24-minute New York flight used over 1,300 lbs of jet fuel.

The creator of the account, Jack Sweeney, also pointed out that certain celebrities try to hide their data, but it’s all out in the public.

On the one hand, tracking a celebrity to see where they are is weird. On the other hand, why do they feel the need to fly across town to run errands? Many of Jenner’s followers are tired of seeing her and others present their wealth in this way.

The planet is dying! These jets don’t need to bring you to the grocery store. Maybe Jenner should listen to her fans on this one.

Lil Baby Launches A Job Program For Young Adults In Atlanta

Once upon a time, getting a summer job was a rite of passage for teens and young adults, but in the wake of a global pandemic and rising concerns over fair wages, it’s a tradition that has understandably fallen by the wayside of late. However, summer is also traditionally a time when that particular demographic is likely to get into more trouble since school is out and cities are not investing in activities or community programs to keep them occupied.

Fortunately for 100 Atlanta-area teens and adults, Lil Baby has launched an initiative to get them jobs alongside restauranteur Lemont Bradley. They’ve teamed up to offer positions such as bartenders, dishwashers, line cooks, and waiters at Bradley’s restaurants, Clutch Restaurant, Auto Spa Bistro, and Eco Car Spa, with further plans to start a lawn care service later this year. They also provided their rationale in a statement, saying:

“With the crime rate surrounding scams, robbery, and even murder being so high, we are looking to provide a positive outlet and revenue stream to those who are looking for an income. We are so excited about this initiative. Of course, we are looking forward to helping boost the city’s economy, but we are really focused on lowering the city’s crime rate.”

Of course, it remains to be seen whether the wages they’re offering will be competitive; if they want this thing to work, they’d better be. The kids are extremely online these days, and I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Gen Z does not dream of labor. Hopefully, though, Baby and Bradley will accomplish their primary goal and help keep those kids out of trouble.

The Fiery New ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Trailer Has A Smoldering Regé-Jean Page With Abs Of Armor And Chris Pine With A Lute

When Regé-Jean Page departed from Bridgerton, it was understood that he’d be moving (at least partially) into blockbuster mode, and that’s what’s definitely happening. He’s not quite in leading man mode, since he’s sharing the screen with Chris Pine (who’s seen in the last moments of this trailer hopping around while shredding a lute). Also on hand? Michelle Rodriguez in her customary butt-kicking mode as this franchise takes another stab at bringing the role-playing game to life.

The sights and sounds whirl by so fast here that it’s dizzying, but yes, this film’s bringing dragons back at around the same time as the Game of Thrones franchise is doing. Oh look, Hugh Grant is in this movie, too. Bet you never expected that one, but he’s apparently determined to do the unexpected in this phase of his career. Sword play and an “owlbear” will be had, and hey, they built “jacked” abs into Page’s armor.

Dungeons And Dragons: Honor Among Thieves trailer

Gotta keep the brand strong. From the YouTube-posted synopsis:

Punch Explains The Delay In Releasing SZA’s Album And Promises An Announcement Is Coming Soon

Five years can seem like a long time to wait for a new album for many fans (at least, those who don’t remember the gaps between albums from A Tribe Called Quest, Black Star, Dr. Dre, and Guns N’ Roses). So, SZA fans, who have mostly grown up in the era of instant gratification via streaming, delivery, and ride-share services, have been understandably impatient for news about the follow-up to her beloved 2017 debut, CTRL. Much of that ire has been directed at Punch, the president of SZA’s label, Top Dawg Entertainment (often seemingly spurred by SZA herself),

Today, though, Punch — who’s been pretty patient about the whole situation, all things considered (stans: not fun to deal with) — decided to offer some transparency on social media, offering an explanation for the increasingly lengthy delay between projects, especially given SZA’s announcement about a “SZA summer” stoking fans’ impatience. Check it out below.

I guess I should give a bit of context.
SZA and myself initially spoke about a summertime album. Which is why she mentioned summer in a post-Grammys interview.
Shortly after discussing everything with RCA and Top, we decided it was best to do it a little bit later to set everything up correctly, giving it its proper space and lead time.
There is a lot that goes into putting out a album and especially one with this much anticipation. We thank you for your continued patience and understanding. An announcement will be coming sooner than you think.

Bruce Springsteen Tickets Are Going For Over $4k On Ticketmaster And Fans Are Fuming

Bruce Springsteen has made a career of writing songs about good ol’ fashioned working American people. But why can’t they afford to attend his concerts? That appears to be happening with Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing for Springsteen and The E-Street Band’s newly announced US tour dates for 2023. Tickets for concerts at arenas from Tampa Bay to Tulsa, and Boston have been going for upwards of $4,000, and not all of them are even in the floor section. Fans of The Boss are predictably fuming.

As Variety reports, Ticketmaster’s new dynamic pricing features make it so the “platinum ticket” prices fluctuate based on demand. I suppose the thinking here is to cut out the secondary market by just jacking up the prices yourself? This feels like a slap in the face to fans in the name of capitalism. “Tampa mid-floor for $4,400 each, anyone?,” the Springsteen-focused fan mag Backstreets tweeted out.

Backstreets also cited a portion of Ticketmaster’s explanation for this controversial pricing structure, which says they are, “Similar to how airline tickets and hotel rooms are sold.” This is what the Ticketmaster copy looks like in full:

“Are Official Platinum Seats resale tickets?

No. Official Platinum Seats were not purchased initially and then posted for resale; they are being sold for the first time through Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster’s Official Platinum seat program enables market-based pricing (adjusting prices according to supply and demand) for live event tickets, similar to how airline tickets and hotel rooms are sold. The goal is to give the most passionate fans fair and safe access to the best tickets, while enabling artists and other people involved in staging live events to price tickets closer to their true market value.”

For example, the Tampa tickets posted by Backstreets are $3,819 plus another $568.50 for a total of $4,388.50. All of this to see a man who famously sang about having just, “A dollar in my pocket.” Fans have called this out for being “official scalping,” and have said they’ll just resort to bootlegging the concerts online instead.

There is no official response yet from Springsteen, although E-Street Band guitarist Stevie Van Zandt tweeted, “I have nothing whatsoever to do with the price of tickets. Nothing. Nada. Niente. Bubkis. Dick.”

Rudy Giuliani F*cked Around And Now We May Be About To Find Out The True Extent Of His Shady Shenanigans

For a former prosecutor, Rudy Giuliani doesn’t seem to have much respect for the justice system—which partly explains why his license to practice law has been suspended in both New York and Washington, DC. Yet his unwillingness to comply with a subpoena to testify as a witness against former boss Donald Trump, or to even show up for a hearing in New York during which he was being given a chance to fight the subpoena, may ultimately lead to Rudy’s undoing.

As CNN reports, Giuliani was originally subpoenaed to appear before a Fulton County, Georgia grand jury earlier this month in order to provide evidence in their ongoing investigation into Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. When Rudy made it clear that he had no intention of showing up, the grand jury set up a hearing in New York City (for his convenience) in order to allow him to argue against the subpoena. Despite having no real job, Giuliani was a no-show at the hearing, and as such has been ordered to appear as a witness on August 9.

As CNN wrote:

Giuliani is one of a handful of witnesses who were subpoenaed related to their appearance before Georgia state lawmakers in December 2020. During his early December appearance, Giuliani provided testimony, witnesses and so-called evidence that demonstrated voter fraud, according to court filings. Even after those allegations were investigated and disproven, Giuliani “made additional statements, both to the public and in subsequent legislative hearings, claiming widespread voter fraud in Georgia during the November 2020 election,” by re-upping the same previously debunked evidence, according to court filings.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the subpoena states that there is evidence Giuliani was “part of a multi-state, coordinated plan by the Trump Campaign to influence the results of the November 2020 election in Georgia and elsewhere.”

If Rudy decides to play truant again in August, the judge can issue a “material witness warrant” that would allow authorities to arrest the former New York City mayor and detain him until he is able to appear before the grand jury.

No word yet on whether Rudy looks good in orange.

Jessica Alba Thinks That Marvel Films Are ‘Still Quite Caucasian’

Jessica Alba has not fallen for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s diversity push. The actor, who starred as Susan Storm in Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), says that not much has changed because what she’s seeing from the superhero studio is “still quite caucasian.”

In an interview with Glamour UK, Alba didn’t hold back her feelings. “Even if you look at the Marvel movies – that’s the biggest driver of fantasy and what’s happening right now in entertainment, because it’s sort of the family thing – it’s still quite Caucasian,” Alba said. “I would say I was one of the few back in the day… And it was before Marvel was sold to Disney, but it’s still quite more of the same,” she said.

Since 2018, the MCU has made more than just white guys main characters. 2018’s Black Panther was the first MCU film starring a Black character, and Captain Marvel, released in 2019, was the first MCU film with a female protagonist. 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduced the franchise’s first Asian-American hero and 2022’s Ms. Marvel intruded its first Muslim hero, while Anthony Mackie’s Sam Falcon has been crowned as the new Captain America.

“I just think more for the younger people who are coming up, who are going to be our future leaders, it’s important for them to see the world on screen, or in stories, in the dreams that we create as entertainers; it reflects the world that they’re in,” Alba, who has stepped away from acting in the past few years to focus on her business, The Honest Company, added.
