Adam McKay And Billy Corben Are Turning The Jerry Falwell Jr. Sex Scandal Into Hulu’s Next Big Documentary

If you think The Righteous Gemstones is too far-fetched, you obviously forgot about the Jerry Falwell Jr. sex scandal. In 2020, a pool boy for the son of the infamous evangelist revealed he spent six years being one-third of a throuple with Jr. and his wife, Becki. The furor was such that he resigned from Liberty University, his dad’s school, where he had been president. Now he’s inspired what may become the next big Hulu documentary.

As per Variety, the streamer has set a Nov. 1 date for God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty, which is being made by Adam McKay and Cocaine Cowboys’ Billy Corben. Giancarlo Granda, said pool boy, is said to be closely involved in the film, which will reportedly take his point of view. The film comes on the heels of another much-discussed Hulu doc, Victoria’s Secret: Angels and Demons.

Earlier this year, Falwell Jr. attempted to rescue his reputation, blaming some of his weirder antics during his throuple years on one thing: the testosterone supplements he’d been taking in an effort to win his lonely wife back from the hunky pool boy with whom she’d have sex while he watched. It’s not the only not-exactly-Christ-like behavior Falwell Jr. has gotten up to. Back in 2016, after dozens of women came forward, claiming then-presidential candidate Donald Trump had engaged in sexual misconduct, Jr. said he’d still vote for him, even if they were true. Just as God intended.

God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty will be released on Hulu on Nov. 1.

Interesting video explains why people looked a lot older in the past than they do today

This article originally appeared on 07.11.22

Ever look at your parents’ high school yearbooks and think people looked so much older back then? All of the teenagers look like they’re in their mid-30s and the teachers who are 50 look like they’re 80.

When we watch older movies, even those from the 1980s, the teenagers appear to be a lot older as well.

Why is it that they looked so much older? Was life harder? Did people act more mature? Did they spend more time outdoors and less time playing video games? Is it their sense of fashion? Were they all smokers?

Educator Michael Stevens, who runs the super-popular Vsauce YouTube channel, explains the phenomenon in a new video called, “Did people used to look older?” In the video, he explains that people in the past appear a lot older due to a phenomenon known as retrospective aging.

When we see people in the past, they are wearing outdated styles that we associate with older people; therefore, we think they have aged rapidly. For example, a teenager in the 1950s may have been in fashion while wearing thick Buddy Holly-style glasses.

But as people age, they tend to cling to the fashion of their youth. So many people of that generation continued to wear the Buddy Holly-style glasses into their 50s. So when younger people see those glasses they see them as old people’s glasses and not a hip kid from the ’50s.

So in the photo from the ’50s, the teen appears to look a lot older because our perspective has been tainted by time.

But it isn’t all just an illusion. Stevens also points out that people did age faster back in the day due to differences in nutrition, lifestyle and medicine.

Mantras to help get you through life, created by 6-year-olds

This article originally appeared on 01.28.22

Kids might say the darnedest things, but occasionally they also give sage advice.

A teacher in the United Kingdom by the name of George Pointon has made a name for himself by tweeting his 6-year-old students’ comical, candid and sometimes profound answers to weekly questions.

Or, as he humorously writes in his Twitter bio, “exploiting children’s imagination for likes.”

One of my favorite threads so far is when Pointon asked his students to create a “mantra to help us through life.” The teacher posted each student’s response, along with some commentary.

It’s all some noteworthy food for thought, if not harmless, wholesome entertainment.

Best of all, the genuine affection Pointon has for his students is undeniable.

Rory: “Don’t stop running”

kids, kid reactions

Pointon: “The other day I grunted when picking up my keys from the table. If I didn’t stop running, I’d die. Rory has gone for the Forrest Gump approach here. It seemed to work for him. Forrest that is. I’ve seen Rory run into multiple trees. Persistent tho.”

Rory might be running into trees, but some spot-on perspectives on life as well.

JJ: “Only be friends with people who you want to be friends with”

friendship

Pointon: “This gets forgotten about in adults. Sometimes we are friends with people out of convenience or history. Look around and ask yourself, “does this person positively impact my life?”. JJ has his head screwed on.”

JJ understands the value of authentic friendship. And, as Pointon reflected, setting boundaries and letting go is something so many adults struggle with, though there are countless sources noting its importance.

Jack: “You might [get] told off but sometimes you’re not doing anything wrong”

scolding children

Pointon: “His anti-authority attitude is refreshing as it is scary. He’s right tho. Fight for what you believe in and it’s never wrong. Although Jack believes he can back flip over a lorry, so I don’t know.”

What’s a lorry, you may ask? Turns out it’s a British term for an 18-wheeler. I didn’t know either.

Ravi: “Some people don’t have anything so be happy you have everything”

sesame street

Pointon: “We truly are in the presence of greatness. There are world leaders without this clarity. Step back and look at what we take for granted, you’ll be amazed. Ravi elevates people around him. He’s a special lad.”

I believe this was a major theme that “Don’t Look Up” was trying to convey. Well done, Ravi.

Lola: “You can’t swim in a sink but a bath is just a big sink”

funny kids

Pointon: “I believe she’s talking about perspective. One person’s baby step is another’s giant leap. Lola moves at her pace and is proud of the people around her moving at theirs. Otherwise you’ll lose a one horse race.”

I’m gonna assume Lola is also a proponent of the “just keep swimming” mentality.

Emma: “The people who don’t talk, still have something to say”

introverts

Pointon: “Empty vessels makes the most noise. Emma is quiet and has grown in confidence since I’ve known her. She is an advocate for letting people be themselves. A true woman of her time. She’ll make an excellent leader.”

Hear, hear for quiet confidence, Emma.

Belle: “Flowers live in the ground, we live in a house. Everyone lives somewhere.”

perspective

Pointon: “It’s a huge, overwhelming concept to think every individual lives an equally complex and rich life as you. Knowing that everyone is coming from something make[s] you see we’re all the same. One team.”

A lesson in empathy, taught by Belle.

Mikey: “Mud hills are fun but also muddy”

viral twitter

Pointon: “I’d never heard of the term “mud hill” but I assumed it’s a hill, that is muddy. I was wrong. It’s basically a pile of mud mashed up and used to throw at cars or people…So if you see a boy holding a mud ball with a devilish grin, run.”

No such thing as good, clean fun, according to Mikey.

Zahra: “Some things are cool and some things aren’t”

kids self esteem

Pointon: “There is no messing about with Zahra. A woman of precision. She wanted to add that if you find things cool, then it is. Which in itself is a pretty cool thing to say. If you enjoy something, don’t let other[s] bring you down.”

Zahra is clearly the Queen of Cool.

Susanna: “Don’t start a fire in a forrest”

mantras

Pointon: “I take this as, understanding your situation and objectively being able to know what is benefitting you and what isn’t. But Susanna confirmed that there is no subtext. Just don’t start fires in forrests because it goes whoosh, okay.”

I also love how Pointon was loyal to Susanna’s spelling of the word “forrest.” That dedication right there.

According to indy100, Pointon protects the identity of his young pupils by using made-up aliases. But reassured, the answers provided are all too real.

Pointon told indy100, “School can sometimes make you think quite linear, like there are only right or wrong answers but, especially with them being so young, their thoughts are actually really abstract.”

Passion, purpose, and a dash of social media stardom have allowed Pointon to help raise awareness around children’s issues. Last November he worked with the Anti-Bullying Alliance, asking the question “what makes you unique?”

For Zahra, it was her two different eye colors. For Susanna, it was the fact that she could fit 100 grapes in her mouth (Pointon isn’t so sure, but encouraging nonetheless).

Pointon hopes to work with even more charities, using his platform to “have conversations with children about things that need to be spoken about, or things that are going on in the world and get their point of view on things.”

In the meantime, you can catch all of Pointon’s thoughtful questions, along with his students’ endearing and brilliant answers, on Twitter.

The Struggle To Make Another ‘Star Trek’ Movie Continues, With The Fourquel Losing ‘WandaVision’ Director Matt Shakman

How hard is to make a fourquel in a popular film franchise? If it’s Star Trek, then apparently it ain’t easy. It’s been six years since Star Trek Beyond, a more stripped-down entry in the big screen wing of the franchise. Since then, there’s been questions over whether there would even be fourth film. At one point, Quentin Tarantino even threatened to get on board. Finally, last summer, they seemed to find a director and order was restored. Or was it?

As per The Hollywood Reporter, WandaVision Matt Shakman, who had been tasked with getting the Chris Pine-led crew back on the USS Enterprise, is out. The reason? He’s jumping to another franchise. Shakman, a TV vet who attracted attention for helming all nine episodes of the genre-blending Marvel show, is now in talks to helm their latest attempt at a Fantastic Four movie — the one that may or may not feature a Doctor Doom played by no less than Howard Stern.

That means Shakman had to ditch Captain Kirk and team due to scheduling reasons. Presumably he can’t pull a James Gunn and direct two big different franchise movies, one after another. And mind you, Shakman has never directed a big screen movie before. In any case, looks like the Star Trek films need a new J.J. Abrams.

Welp, Don Jr. Went And Posted A Pretty Gross Meme About His Dad’s Crotch

Few sons are as dedicated to their fathers as Don Jr. is to his, and no wonder: He’s not really employable as anything other than a Trump cheerleader anyway. (Or as a steak hawker.) For the record, he’s thrown himself into that gig with relish. But sometimes he does the job far too well. On Friday, after a heavily redacted — and no matter what the big guy says, pretty damning — copy of the FBI affidavit was made public, Trump’s oldest son made the kind of gross joke none of us ever deserved to see.

Don Jr. took to Instagram, posting one of those highly, disturbingly unflattering pictures of his dad during the controversial golf Saudi tournament he hosted at his Bedminster, New Jersey course. But Don Jr. had added a little flourish: a long, vertical black strip running over his crotch, extending down to his knees. The caption? “Redact this!!!”

For the record, Don Jr. is far from the only Trump crony who’s recently obsessed over his nether regions. News anchor-turned-MAGA candidate Kari Lake recently talked about Trump and Ron DeSantis’ “BDE,” or Big Dick Energy. Trump himself has made hyperbolic claims about his Malcolm Gladwell, including on television during a primary debate back in 2016. And then there’s Stormy Daniels’ colorful, also unflattering description of…anyway, there is no worse topic than Trump’s withering member. Let’s never speak of it again and may this be the last time it ever comes up.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Is So Very Mad That Biden Seemingly Forgot Her Name (Lucky Him)

After a year-and-a-half of mostly trying to ignore them, the Joe Biden administration is finally attacking the MAGA contingent of Congress. Last week, amidst conservative uproar over student debt forgiveness, the official White House Twitter account launched a take-no-prisoners thread identifying the many GOP lawmakers who took out PPP loans — and had them forgiven. One of them was Marjorie Taylor Greene, who then had the extra insult of Biden seemingly to forget her name.

Biden was talking to reporters Friday about Republicans being angry about making a generation of college graduates’ lives better. “I found it absolutely fascinating that some of the folks who were talking about [how] this is big spending are the same people who got $158,000 in PPP money,” he said. He then tried to name an example, but could only get “what’s her name? The woman who believes in…anyway.”

Biden was almost certainly referring to Greene but seems to have had a momentary brain fart. Maybe he blocked her out after she and Lauren Boebert heckled his State of the Union earlier this year, even if she wasn’t the one who did so while he was talking about his dead son Beau. Whatever the explanation, Greene was not pleased that the president she so hates forgot her many-syllabled name.

“Well if his dementia wasn’t so bad he could remember,” Greene railed. “At least President Trump knows everyone’s name. Joe is a career politician that knows nothing about making payroll during a tyrannical government shutdown. He only knows how to buy votes.”

In any case, imagine not being able to remember the name of arguably the most annoying person in Washington, no matter how briefly. Biden’s a lucky guy.

Is Eminem A Christian?

Eminem has long been open about his past with substance abuse and his road to recovery. Though the traditional twelve-step program requires the person in recovery to put their vices in the hands of a higher power, said higher power doesn’t necessarily have to be the God worshipped and followed by Christians. But a verse on the remix of Kanye West’s 2019 Jesus Is King cut, “Use This Gospel,” which appears on DJ Khaled’s new album, God Did has fans wondering if Eminem follows some form of organized religion.

Is Eminem A Christian?

On the “Use This Gospel” remix, Eminem raps, “My savior, I call on / To rescue me from these depths of despair So these demons better step like a stair / Because He is my shepherd / I’m armed with Jesus / My weapon is prayer.” Toward the end of his verse, which would imply that he might be a Christian. Toward the end of the verse, he says, Bible at my side like a rifle with a God-given gift / Every single day I thank God for / That’s why I pay so much homage / Praises to Jesus, I’ll always.”

Though Eminem does consider himself the “Rap God,” it’s clear that he seeks guidance from a different God. However, it doesn’t seem that Em considers himself to be religious, but rather, spiritual.

Some Christians may find Eminem’s lyrics vulgar and offensive, but he has long been open about his beliefs in God. In a 1996 track called “It’s Ok,” from his first album, Infinite, Em raps “In the midst of this insanity / I’ve found my Christianity / through God and there’s a wish he granted me / He showed me how to cope with this stress and hope for the best / instead of moping depressed.”

While it’s unclear if he still practices Christianity today, he is very open about his relationship with God, and consistently credits God for his recovery.

LCD Soundsystem Will Release A New Song, ‘New Body Rhumba,’ For The Upcoming Netflix Film, ‘White Noise’

After a series of festival slots this summer, it looks like LCD Soundsystem will soon be back with some new music. Variety has reported that the band will contribute a new original song to the soundtrack of an upcoming Netflix film called White Noise.

The song, titled “New Body Rhumba,” will mark LCD Soundsystem’s first piece of new music in five years, and is planned for release before the end of the year.

Last year, the band played a series of shows in Brooklyn, as part of a residency, however, they did not complete the series, due to the rise of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. This year, their 20th as a band, they’ve been playing festivals and residencies in various cities. While it appears new music is on the horizon, fans shouldn’t hold their breath for a new album in the near future.

Back in March, LCD Soundsystem leader James Murphy took to Facebook to share an update with fans, explaining they don’t want to have to worry about enduring press cycles.

“…[T]here’s a thing with tour, also, where you invest so much time, energy, and cost into ‘getting ready’ that you wind up touring for ages just to make it worthwhile… then you need a big break again,” Murphy said. “Then you are reluctant to start all over again. It’s a cycle. We really wanted to stop living like that, so We talked about just playing some shows in New York, since most of us live here, and not making it too big of a deal. Like, just playing because we like it, and because we like one another. Just be a New York band for a bit. And maybe we’ll do something like that every year. Just stay in shape, if that makes sense. And just make records along the way. Maybe just singles for a while, so there isn’t some ‘album panic’ etc. We don’t know.”

White Noise, which is based on the novel by Don DeLillo, will screen at Venice and New York Film Festivals, serving as the opening film for both festivals. The film will be available for streaming on Netflix at a soon-to-be-announced date.

Lakeyah Shows Us How A ‘Real B*tch’ Does It On Her New Single

Lakeyah has another heater on her hands. Over the course of the summer, the Quality Control rapper has delivered a series of bangers, including the bold “Record Straight,” and the Latto-assisted ladies anthem, “Mind Yo Business.” On her latest single, “Real B*tch,” Lakeyah sets herself apart from her peers, arriving ready to eat up her competition.

She channels Lil Wayne in her first verse, saying, “I ain’t asthmatic, but this spit game Weezy / Put these rap h*es on the plate just to feed me.”

Lakeyah is later joined by her QC labelmate, Gloss Up, who, fresh after signing a deal, is ready to join the ranks of the women rappers dominating the scene right now. “B*tch, I just signed to QC and got a big bag / I’m finna show you why these ratchet b*tches real bad.”

The song’s instrumental contains a prominent sample of Khia’s “My Neck, My Back,” and toward the end of the song, Lakeyah interpolates “My Neck, My Back’s” chorus, saying, “Ice out my neck, and my wrist / He ain’t gotta cheque, he ain’t talkin’ ’bout sh*t.”

In the song’s accompanying video, Lakeyah and Gloss Up are seen enjoying a day party with friends, filled with dancing, swimming, and pouring up liquor.

Charles Barkley Ripped Into KD Again And Revealed He Has A New Nickname For Him: ‘Mr. Miserable’

Kevin Durant and Charles Barkley don’t seem to like one another all that much. On multiple occasions, the two have gone back-and-forth over critiques Barkley has levied towards Durant on Inside the NBABarkley has said that Durant is classified as one of the league’s “bus riders” for how he got his two rings, which unsurprisingly did not sit particularly well with Durant.

Now that Durant’s offseason trade saga with the Brooklyn Nets has come to an end, he’ll have the opportunity to shut Barkley up (to whatever extent such a thing is possible) and lead a team to a championship. Still, it’s not like Barkley is suddenly going to change his tune on Durant, and during a radio appearance in Arizona this week, he decided to go at Durant once again.

“Well, I think it depends on if he wins again,” Barkley said when asked what he thinks Durant’s legacy will be when his career ends. “All the old guys, he gets mad when we say it, he piggybacked on the Warriors to win his first two championships, but if you go back and look at his career, as the best payer and being a leader, that all goes with that, he’s been an abject failure.

“Every time he’s been, like, the guy who has to be the leader and the best player, he has not had success, and that’s what us old guys think about him — until he becomes a leader and best player on a championship team, where he has to deal with all responsibility, all the media stuff that goes with it, expectations,” Barkley continued. “So, we’re always gonna hold that against him. But man, he just seems like a miserable person, man. I call him Mr. Miserable, he’s never gonna be happy.”

Barkley went on to say that “everybody’s given him everything on a silver platter,” citing how beloved he was in Oklahoma City, how he got his rings with Golden State, and became the face of the franchise in Brooklyn.
