Report: Thunder Rookie Chet Holmgren May Have Suffered Ligament Damage In His Foot

UPDATE: The Athletic reports that the belief is Holmgren did, indeed, get hurt while playing in The CrawsOver.

EARLIER: The Oklahoma City Thunder expect that Chet Holmgren will play a major role in what their team looks like going forward. According to a new report by Shams Charania of The Athletic, it might be a minute before we get our first glimpses of how Holmgren fits into what the Thunder are trying to build.

Charania reported that the team has some concerns over Holmgren’s foot, and on Wednesday, the former Gonzaga standout needed to undergo imaging to figure out what exactly is going on.

It was eventually determined that there are potentially torn ligaments in Holmgren’s foot, while the plan is to dig a little deeper into the injury that he suffered before making any sort of determination on when he’ll be able to play basketball again.

Holmgren was one of the players who participated in Jamal Crawford’s pro-am, The CrawsOver, this past weekend. The star-studded game had to be called early due to condensation on the floor, but before that happened, Holmgren left the game with an apparent right foot injury after challenging a shot by James. It is unclear if this is when he suffered the torn ligaments in his foot or if this is an unrelated incident.

The Rapper Who Voiced Virtual Rapper FN Meka Says He Didn’t Get Paid For His Work

In the wake of the controversy surrounding the virtual rapper FN Meka, a Houston-based rapper named Kyle The Hooligan has posted a video on Instagram claiming that he wasn’t paid by Factory New, the company behind FN Meka, for his work voicing the character’s machine-written lyrics. In the video, he says he originally planned to wait until the project made more money before seeking legal action, but after being inundated with messages about the controversy, decided to share his story.

“Basically, they came to me with this AI shit and was like would I want to be the voice of it,” he recalls. “I thought it was going to be a collaboration. They promised me equity in the company, percentages, all this stuff. So, I’m thinking this is about to be something different for me, so I can do my music and be on some AI stuff with this FN Meka character… Next thing I know, n****s just ghosted me. Used my voice, used my sound, used the culture, and literally just left me high and dry. I didn’t get a dime off of nothing and they got record deals. I wasn’t involved in no meetings, none of that… Honestly, I’m glad they ass got canceled, that’s karma.”

Genius’ Jacques Morel confirmed that Kyle The Hooligan is the voice behind the virtual rapper — or, at least, its lyrics — in an in-depth report last year, which you can watch below. Although Kyle did not answer questions about his involvement at the time, it appears that he was miffed about being left out of Capitol Records’ discussions with Factory New regarding “signing” the rapper. Meanwhile, in a New York Times report about Capitol dropping FN Meka after an online backlash, Anthony Martini, a music manager who is one of Factory New’s founders, says that Capitol did not pay an advance, which was confirmed by the label itself.

Critics of the FN Meka project, including the music business advocacy group Industry Blackout, called it an “amalgamation” of gross stereotypes” and “appropriative mannerisms,” and said it “is a direct insult to the Black community.” Meka’s lyrics, written by a machine learning algorithm based on SoundCloud rappers like Lil Pump and Tekashi 69, repeated use the word “nigga” despite that code being programmed by an Asian creator and bankrolled by a white man, and using a character model with ambiguous, inhuman features. In its announcement that FN Meka had been dropped, Capitol Records apologized for its “insensitivity” and thanked those who gave feedback.

Here’s Everything New On Netflix In September 2022, Including ‘Cobra Kai’ And ‘Blonde’

The scorching heatwave of summer isn’t over yet, but the good news is that it should cool down at some point. Before that happens, you’ll maybe want to hang on your couch a lot, and Netflix has your back if that’s where you hope to be for the month of September. Expect “No Mercy” to reign while The Karate Kid franchise kicks back into the dojo(s) with the fifth season of Cobra Kai, which carries a huge amount of cross-generational appeal.

Ana de Armas is also on hand as Marilyn Monroe in the sure-to-be-controversial Blonde, and some sorely needed comedy specials are coming your way as well. The newly filled library content will also include some Resident Evil titles, the original Roadhouse movie (Jake Gyllenhaal will soon star in a reboot), and Al Pacino in Scarface. In other words, you’ll have more content than you can possibly watch, and that’s not a problem.

Here’s everything coming to (and leaving) Netflix in September.

Cobra Kai: Season 5 (Netflix series streaming 9/9)

Terry Silver is now launching a zillion Cobra Kai franchises after paying off a judge during the All Valley Tournament. That makes him the worst villain of the franchise (congrats!), and “No Mercy” is going to spread everywhere, and we’ve already heard that Silver will bring Mike Barnes back from The Karate Kid III obscurity. As this Season 5 trailer shows, Silver’s also recruited a female sensei, and one can only guess what havoc they will all wreak. In the meantime, the Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang guys, Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, are picking up the pieces of their combined dojo, and as this trailer shows, it’s full-on war for the soul of the Valley.

Blonde (Netflix film streaming 9/23)

Ana de Armas stars as Marilyn Monroe in this highly anticipated (and NC-17) film that’s based upon Joyce Carol Oates’ biography of the same name. Oates has gone on record to called the movie “startling, brilliant, very disturbing & [perhaps most surprisingly] an utterly ‘feminist’ interpretation.” Expect to see Marilyn onscreen like you’ve never seen her before, as the project explores the prices that she paid to transform from Norma Jean to a celebrated (and highly misunderstood) icon. Also be prepared for both fact and fiction and everything in between.

Fate: The Winx Saga: Season 2 (Netflix series streaming 9/16)

Based upon the Italian cartoon Winx Club (by Iginio Straffi), this live-action reimagining serves as a story from the Otherworld, at a magical boarding school. It’s a coming-of-age journey for five young fairies, and those with human parents don’t even know that this school doesn’t exist in the “real” world. Love, rivalries, and monsters. That’s it and a nutshell, along with teenage drama that might distract (this season) from saving the world from true catastrophe.

Patton Oswalt: We All Scream (Netflix comedy special streaming 9/20)

The man who embodied Constable Bob recently appeared in Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman (as Matthew the Raven) on Netflix, and Patton can’t quit the comedy while marking his fourth comedy special for the streamer. He’s also directing (a first for him) and following up his public comments on cancel culture while taking Baby Boomers to task for their tantrum and more.

Sheng Wang: Sweet and Juicy (Netflix comedy special streaming 9/6)

Ali Wong makes her directorial debut here while making it all possible for this project to come together with another debut: Sheng Wang’s first stand-up special on Netflix. He’ll explore the most mundane topics (including musings on heists, posture, and that juicer that you wasted money on but never use) while helping to make September a funny month for the ages.

What Songs Is My Chemical Romance Playing On Their Reunion Tour?

My Chemical Romance were perhaps the defining emo band of the 2000s, which manifested most strongly on a popular level when the 2006 album The Black Parade and its iconic lead single “Welcome To The Black Parade” reached the top 10 of the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 charts, respectively. They disbanded in 2013, though, and until recently hadn’t been on a proper tour since 2012.

That changed earlier this year, though, when they kicked off a reunion tour. As the North American leg of the treks kicks off (the first US show was in Oklahoma City on August 20) after some international dates, what songs has the band been performing?

According to data from Setlist.fm, the most comprehensive resource for concert setlists available online, the most-played song so far is Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys single “Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na),” which has been performed 25 times. Close behind with 24 performances each are “Famous Last Words,” “I’m Not Okay (I Promise),” “Mama,” “Teenagers,” “The Foundations Of Decay,” and” Welcome To The Black Parade.”

As for the least-performed, that goes to 2009 rarity “The World Is Ugly,” which the group just played for the first time since 2008.

Setlist.fm also has an “average setlist” for the tour, which is based on setlists from previous shows, so it’s an indication of how an upcoming Gaga show could be structured. On that, the opening song is “The Foundations Of Decay,” the band’s recently released comeback single, kicks things off, while “The Kids From Yesterday” closes the encore.

When it comes to album-by-album representation on the setlist, The Black Parade (131 songs performed), Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys (120), and Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge (117) are in a near-tie at the top.

Find My Chemical Romance’s most played songs on the reunion tour below, as well as the tour’s average setlist. Check out MCR’s upcoming tour dates here.

The New ‘Hellraiser’ Reboot Gets A Creepy Teaser And Release Date

The Hellraiser is once again raising hell, but in modern times! A reimagining of Clive Barker’s classic 1987 horror film is heading to Hulu just in time for Halloween, which has subsequently been rebranded as Huluween (it does flow a little better than “Netflix and Chills”).

This adaptation hails from The Night House director David Bruckner and stars trans actress Jamie Clayton (The L Word: Generation Q and Sense 8) as the legendary Pinhead, leader of the Cenobites. Last fall, Clayton announced the news on Instagram with an ominous caption: “Demons to some. Angels to others.” That sure does sound promising!

The 2022 version follows a “young woman struggling with addiction who comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.” The reimagined movie will be produced by Barker, and feature Odessa A’zion, Adam Faison, Drew Starkey, Brandon Flynn, Aoife Hinds, Jason Liles, Yinka Olorunnife, Selina Lo, Zachary Hing, Kit Clarke, Goran Visnjic, and Hiam Abbass.

The original 1987 version, based on a novella, has a significant cult following and spawned nine installments (a very horror movie thing to do), seven of which feature the original Pinhead, Dough Bradley. The 2022 version is expected to be a “reimagined” series with even more exciting (and creepy) lore to dive into. If that’s not what you’re looking for, no worries! There is an HBO series based on Hellraiser that is allegedly still in the works.

Hulu’s Hellraiser will hit the streamer on October 7th, just in time to be spooked for the whole month. Check out the teaser above.

A Prominent Christian Leader Is Blasting His Fellow Christians For Allowing Themselves To Be ‘Seduced’ By Trump

Seduced by Trump sounds like a movie you’d catch on Lifetime on a random Saturday afternoon, but Dr. Michael L. Brown — a prominent religious leader, radio host, and founder of the AskDrBrown Ministries and FIRE School of Ministry — believes it has become an unfortunate reality for many of his fellow Christians (himself included).

As Raw Story reports, in a new column for the Christian Post titled “Is the Church ready for Trump 2024?,” Dr. Brown wrote about the ways in which Donald Trump changed the Christian way of life — and how the fault of that rests with he and his fellow Christians themselves, not Trump directly.

“After all, he was the man he had always been: a rough and tumble, often contentious, frequently nasty, quite narcissistic, wealthy New York businessman turned politician,” Brown writes. “And while many of us hoped he would change, he did not.”

Brown makes it clear that he is not anti-Trump, and actually commends the former president for doing “so many excellent things and [keeping] his promises to his conservative Christian base… In four short years, despite constant opposition and harassment, he did a tremendous amount of good on both a national and international level.” (He did?!)

What concerns Brown is “the fact that many of us exalted him as some kind of political savior,” and whether he and his fellow Christians can both be a Trump supporter and still uphold their religious values, when so much of what they apparently enjoyed about the former president was “The fact that we enjoyed watching him belittle and mock his political opponents, often in crude and cruel ways,” which doesn’t sound very Christian.

But therein, according to Brown, lies the problem:

In the case of Trump, there were so many good things he stood for, so many admirable things he championed, so much courage he displayed, so much of our burden that he shared, that it was all too easy for us to get seduced. (By seduced I don’t mean voting for him; I mean acting the way we did.)

In the process, we compromised our witness, put our trust in the political system, and divided over the president rather than united around Jesus. Will we do better if Trump decides to run again?

This much is sure: If we don’t recognize our past errors, take stock of our own lives (and/or ministries), and make serious adjustments at the root level, we will not be ready for Trump 2024.

Is anyone?

Tegan And Sara Reflect On Falling Out Of Love On Their New Song, ‘Faded Like A Feeling’

Tegan And Sara are set to drop their new album, Crybaby, this fall. Ahead of Crybaby, the duo has dropped a new song called “Faded Like A Feeling.”

On the melancholy, guitar-driven track, the two sing about falling out of love. In the accompanying video, Tegan And Sara are seen rocking on swings near a waterfront playground.

Production on Crybaby was handled by John Congleton, as well as Tegan And Sara themselves.

“This was the first time where, while we were still drafting our demos, we were thinking about how the songs were going to work together,” said Tegan in a statement. “It wasn’t even just that Sara was making lyric changes or reorganizing the parts to my songs, it was that she was also saying to me, ‘This song is going to be faster,’ or ‘It’s going to be in a different key.’ But Sara effectively improves everything of mine that she works on.”

In addition to new music, a TV series based on the sisters’ memoir, High School is set to premiere on Amazon Freevee on October 14, a week before their new album arrives.

Check out “Faded Like A Feeling” above.

Finland’s Party-Loving Prime Minister Sanna Marin Apologized For A Photo Of Topless Women Kissing At Her Residence

I don’t claim to be an expert in Finnish politics, but whatever’s happening over there sounds more fun than everything happening here.

Last week, someone leaked a video of Sanna Marin, the 36-year-old prime minister of Finland, committing the cardinal sin of dancing and having fun in her free time. “I have danced, sung, celebrated, done legal things,” she responded to the buzzkills who tried to shame her. “I have a family life, I have a work life, and I have free time to spend with my friends. Pretty much the same as many people my age.”

The latest non-scandal that the Helen Lovejoys of world are losing their marbles over involves a photo taken at Marin’s residence of two topless women kissing. The prime minister apologized for the picture, calling it “not appropriate,” but the only issue I see here is that the women in question are influencers. That’s unfortunate.

The latest photo, of two well-known influencers, was taken inside the prime minister’s residence in July and widely shared on social media on Tuesday. In it, two women can be seen kissing each other covering up their bare chests with an official-looking sign reading “Finland.” On Monday, Ms. Marin said the party at her official residence in Helsinki, Kesaranta, happened after the Ruisrock music festival in July. Finnish media report that the photo was taken in the downstairs toilets used by guests.

“We had sauna, swam, and spent time together,” Marin told reporters during a press conference on Tuesday. “That kind of a picture should not have been taken but otherwise, nothing extraordinary happened at the get-together.” Meanwhile, in America, the former president clogged the toilet with government documents.

Peacock Is About To Get A Huge Content Boost When It Starts Streaming NBC Episodes In September

Peacock is about to get a massive shot in the arm when it comes to content. Thanks to NBCUniversal gathering up all of its shows from Hulu, Peacock’s premium tier will become the exclusive home for next-day NBC episodes starting September 19. That’s a whole lot of power-hitters including the wildly popular Law & Order shows and Saturday Night Live. And those two are just the tip of the iceberg.

Check out this lineup, which is sure to give Peacock a sizable bump in the streaming wars, especially with HBO Max just getting kneecapped by its new corporate owners after briefly looking like one of the best new platforms in recent years. Via Variety:

NBC series that will become exclusively available on Peacock include franchises like Dick Wolf’s “Law & Order” trifecta and One Chicago (“Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago P.D.”), the network’s late-night lineup including “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “Late Night With Seth Meyers” and “Saturday Night Live,” returning series such as “La Brea,” “New Amsterdam” and “Young Rock” and competition shows including “The Voice” and “America’s Got Talent.” Also streaming exclusively on Peacock are new series bowing on NBC this fall including a reboot of “Quantum Leap” and “Lopez vs. Lopez.”

To further funnel broadcast subscribers towards Peacock, the streaming network will soon be the only place to watch Days of Our Lives. After 57 years, the long-running soap opera will make the jump to Peacock on September 12, just one week ahead of its NBC siblings making their mass exodus from Hulu.

The Latest ‘Pinocchio’ Trailer Shows Off Cynthia Erivo’s Enchanting Blue Fairy And Tom Hanks As Geppetto

Everyone is well aware of the amount of Pinocchio content that has been in the works over the past few years, so we don’t have to go into it. But we do have to acknowledge the fact that Tom Hanks is doing the absolute most when it comes to accents!

Hanks stars as Geppetto in Disney’s live-action adaptation of the classic tale, which will premiere on Disney Day, September 8th. The story is more or less the one you knew as a toddler, but now with more CGI and Lorraine Bracco as a talking seagull. What more could you really ask for?

This trailer has everything: a cute cat, dancing puppets, and a conniving wolf asking the question on everyone’s minds: “Why on earth would you want to be real when you can be famous?” Who knew we needed a Pinocchio tale for the social media generation? Here is the official description:

Academy Award® winner Robert Zemeckis directs this live action retelling of the beloved tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy. Tom Hanks stars as Geppetto, the wood carver who builds and treats Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) as if he were his own son.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Jiminy Cricket, who serves as Pinocchio’s guide as well as his “conscience”; Academy Award® nominee Cynthia Erivo is the Blue Fairy; Keegan-Michael Key is “Honest” John; Academy Award® nominee Lorraine Bracco is Sofia the Seagull, a new character, and Luke Evans is The Coachman. Also in the cast are Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana and Jaquita Ta’Le as her marionette Sabina, Giuseppe Battiston as Stromboli and Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick

Pinocchio hits Disney+ on September 8th. Check out the trailer above.
