It Is Not Clear How This Fake Field Goal In South Alabama-UCLA Was Supposed To Work

College football coaches absolutely love to call fakes on special teams, even if they do not always work out the way they are supposed to. A lot of the time, you can see what a team is going for, and the inability to execute usually comes down to having special teams players try to do things that more experienced players pull off with regularity. Heck, a lot of the time, the things that special teams units are asked to do are a lot more complex than anything that an offense is asked to do.

And now, we head to the Rose Bowl, where the UCLA Bruins played host to the South Alabama Jaguars on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins were able to squeak out a 32-31 win, in part because the Jaguars went for it on fourth-and-2 late in the game. They didn’t do that with their offense, though, as they decided to run a fake field goal that just did not seem to have much of a chance from the jump.

That’s the team’s backup quarterback going from holder to quarterback, the kicker lining up in the slot, some pre-snap motion by a tight end, everything getting taken away by the Bruin defense, and a sack. Anyway, UCLA would get the ball immediately after this, go 61 yards in 10 plays, and convert a game-winning field goal as the clock hit zero, so South Alabama might have wanted this one back.

57-year-old former model Paulina Porizkova had the perfect response to ageist comment online

This article originally appeared on 05.03.22

Aging is a weird thing. From one perspective, it’s something we should be grateful for. Few people would wish for the kind of short, uneventful life that would remove aging from the equation completely. The longer we live, the more we grow and learn and experience life, and “aging” is simply the mathematical sum of those experiences. All good, right?

On the other hand, our society does everything in its power to hide the fact that aging happens. Especially when it comes to women. According to Statista, the global anti-aging beauty market is estimated to be worth $58.8 billion. People will try all manner of creams, serums, masks, acids, lights, technologies and surgeries to try to prevent wrinkles, lines, sagginess, spots and other signs that our bodies are changing with time.

Most of us live our daily lives somewhere in the middle of these two realities, wanting to embrace our aging selves but also hoping to stave off some of the more obvious signs that we’re getting older. It’s natural to resist it in some ways, since the older we get, the closer we get to the end of our lives, which we certainly don’t want to hasten—especially if we actually love living.

It can be helpful to see people who are embracing their age, which is why it can be inspiring to see someone like former supermodel Paulina Porizkova confidently sharing photos of her 57-year-old self.

In posts on social media, Porizkova shared a photo of herself in a bikini and a screenshot of a comment made by a person who felt the need to comment on her aging body. And phew, was it something. The commenter wrote:

“You must be in so much pain to keep posting bikini pictures at your age. I’ve always thought that getting old and ugly is hardest on the pretty people. The fall from grace is so much farther when you were beautiful. Ugly people were always ugly so getting old and ugly isn’t a change. In summary, I feel your pain. I pray you can come to terms with your mortality. We all get old and ugly…you just had to fall from a greater height than the rest of us. Tears Times Infinity!”

So many things to unpack here.

Porizkova shared her thoughts on the comment on Instagram.

“Here’s a good follower comment- echoing a few others,” Porizkova wrote. “A woman of 57 is ‘too old’ to pose in a bikini – no matter what she looks like. Because ‘Old’ is ‘Ugly.’ I get comments like these every time I post a photo of my body. This is the ageist shaming that sets my teeth on edge. Older men are distinguished, older women are ugly.”

“People who believe prettiness equals beauty do not understand beauty,” she continued. “Pretty is easy on the eyes, partly because it’s a little bland, inoffensive. It’s easy to take in and easy to forget. Not so beauty. Beauty can be sharp. It can wound you and leave a scar. To perceive beauty you have to be able to SEE.”

“This is why I believe we get more beautiful with age,” she added. “We have earned our beauty, we understand what it is, and we can see it so much better. There is no such thing as ugly and old. Only shortsighted and ignorant.”

On Twitter, Porizkova was a bit more sarcastic, writing, “Thank you for feeling my pain, rickaroo777. As you can see, I’m suffering indeed.”

That tongue-in-cheek response prompted others to share their aging selves in photos, sharing how their “old and ugly” phase of life is going. The thread turned into a veritable celebration of middle-to-late age, with posts about how much more comfortable people feel in their bodies as they get older and the freedom that comes along with not caring what other people think.

You suffer beautifully

There are two big ironies with the original trolling comment. Most obviously, Porizkova obviously looks freaking amazing in a bikini, so the whole “ugly” and “fall from grace” line of thought is object and off base. The second is that if you look through Porizkova’s Instagram feed, she doesn’t pose in bikinis very often at all. It’s not like she’s plastering her bikini selfies all over social media trying to make herself feel better about herself, as the commenter implies. She just…sometimes wears a bikini. Whoop dee doo.

People don’t have to wear bikinis if they don’t want to. But to tell strangers what they can wear crosses a line. All bodies are bikini bodies, and if the person in the body wants their body to be in a bikini, more power to them.

The “suffering” and “pain” in the posts were so funny to see.

The thread brought inspiration to those who may fall prey to the idea that people shouldn’t wear certain things after a certain age or that only people with certain body sizes or shapes should wear certain things.

The hashtag #oldandugly started trending as people responded to Porizkova’s call for a celebration of aging beautifully.

“Todays thread has been my absolute favorite of all time,” Porizkova wrote on Twitter. “Thank you all you ‘old and ugly’ women (and a few men) showing the world how much we ‘suffer’ at in our old age. You’re all breathtaking!”

May we all age beautifully and gracefully in whatever way those words are meaningful to us, and show those who think that aging means “suffering” and “pain” due to being “old and ugly” that they have no idea what they’re talking about.

(And here’s an extra shout-out to Porizkova for using her beauty and her age to make an important point—not only about celebrating getting older, but also about how propaganda works. Brava.)

Google now allows you to remove your personal information from its search results

This article originally appeared on 05.03.22

In the internet era, the idea of personal privacy is all but a myth. With a few keystrokes just about anyone can get your home address, phone number, email, age and the names of your family members. The fact that this information is readily available puts us all in the dangerous position of being the victim of fraud, stalking and violence.

What makes the situation even worse is that our information was put online without any of our consent.

The good news is that Google just made a big change that gives us all a little more control over our personal information. On April 27, the company announced it will allow anyone to request removals of their personal information from its Search feature.

“Open access to information is a key goal of Search, but so is empowering people with the tools they need to protect themselves and keep their sensitive, personally identifiable information private. That’s why we’re updating our policies to help people take more control of their online presence in Search,” Michelle Chang, Google’s Global Policy Lead for Search, announced on the company’s blog.

“[T]he internet is always evolving—with information popping up in unexpected places and being used in new ways—so our policies and protections need to evolve, too,” Chang continued.

The new policy also allows people to request the removal of personal information in Search that could be used for financial fraud such as log-in credentials or account numbers.

Although Google’s new policy is a step in the right direction, it doesn’t cure the problem altogether. “It’s important to remember that removing content from Google Search won’t remove it from the internet, which is why you may wish to contact the hosting site directly, if you’re comfortable doing so,” Chang said.

Do you have any personal information that pops up in Google Search that you’d like to have removed? Visit the topic’s support page, scroll down and click the “Start removal request” link. As you follow the prompts you will be able to specify the personal information that shows up in Search and will be asked to share a list of relevant search terms, such as your full name, maiden name and nickname. You’ll also be able to share supplemental details before submitting the request.

After your request is submitted, you should receive an email from Google confirming the request was received. It’s unclear how long the removal process will take.

Google’s new policy changes come during a surge in online fraud. The Federal Trade Commission reported that consumers lost $5.8 billion to scammers in 2021, a jump of 70% from the previous year.

A big portion of fraud is committed through online scams as well as identity theft and telephone solicitations.

In an attempt to give the FTC more power to fight back against fraud, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell, chair of the Commerce Committee, will introduce legislation this week to make it easier for the Committee to sue deceptive companies and scammers.

“If the FTC remains disarmed of this critical authority, millions of consumers and small businesses who’ve been scammed, swindled, or locked out of competitive marketplaces will never be made whole,” Cantwell said in a statement.

Grimes Says Her Album Is Done And Ponders How She Will Release It

Grimes can an entertaining Twitter follow for many reasons, but she’s equally talented at putting out compelling music. With a year since her last album, it appears she has something coming soon, but she’s not sure how to release it.

In a tweet from Saturday, she wrote, “Album is done we’re mixing. My friend and I. perfected the last song in the plastic surgery clinic cuz they wouldn’t let me leave and we were laughing that this was the most Hollywood moment of all time. I have 20 songs so maybe BOOK 1 and BOOK 2? Deciding format/ tracklist.”

Grimes’s sole 2022 release came in January with “Shinigami Eyes,” though she has appeared on features such as “Last Day,” from Ic3peak’s Kiss Of Death, and “No Man’s Land,” from Bella Poarch’s Dolls EP. Grimes shared the rave edition of Miss Anthropocene in 2021, with its deluxe version originally released in 2020.

Recently the Canadian musician made headlines for saying the “World is 4000 years old. Dinosaurs were planted by god to confuse us.” Writer Miles Klee replied with a funny Guy Fieri meme showing his head engulfed by clouds above an ocean. Despite the antics, though she may really believe this, her confirmation that her album is done might be enough to overlook the ridiculous statement.

Logan Paul Will Fight Roman Reigns For The Undisputed Universal Championship At WWE Crown Jewel

The next challenger for Roman Reigns and his two-year run at the top comes in the form of internet celebrity Logan Paul.

The match comes in true 2022 fashion: beef over a podcast. After Reigns appeared on Paul’s podcast, Paul suggested he has what it takes to overcome the Tribal Chief. Reigns didn’t appreciate Paul’s confidence, which led to an invitation from Triple H for the two to settle the score at Smackdown.

On Friday night, Paul hit the ring and announced a press conference he had slated for Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas. While there, Triple H announced that the pair will go toe-to-toe.

The announcement for the WWE main event in their return to Saudi Arabia for Crown Jewel in November comes after Reigns successfully defended the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship in Cardiff, Wales against Drew McIntyre.

For Paul, a showdown with Reigns follows WWE’s trend of including high-profile celebrities in crossover contests. But this one is different. Paul recently signed a deal with WWE following his standout performance as The Mix’s tag team partner in a win over Rey and Dominik Mysterio. Paul has since wrestled in another victory, this time over Miz in a dazzling performance at SummerSlam.

Now, could Paul really top Reigns in a contest at Crown Jewel? This opposition seems extremely unlikely. But crazier things have happened in the world of sports entertainment.

Matt Gaetz Reportedly Sought A Preemptive Pardon Related To That Still Ongoing Sex Trafficking Investigation

It’s been almost two years since Matt Gaetz became the subject of a federal investigation involving his ties to a sex trafficking ring. Since then the MAGA lawmaker has done his best to ignore it and carry on normally — at least publicly. Behind the scenes is another story.

According to The Washington Post, during an interview with the House select committee investigating Jan. 6, Johnny McEntee, a former White House aide, claimed Gaetz at one point before or after the Capitol riot revealed he was seeking a preemptive pardon from outgoing president Donald Trump. At the time, the federal investigation had still not been made public. The aide said that Gaetz told him “that they are launching an investigation into him or that there’s an investigation into him.”

McEntee said that Gaetz professed his innocence, claiming investigators were simply “trying to make his life hell.” If the president could give him a little pardon ahead of time, though, McEntee said, “that would be great.”

Gaetz didn’t specify to McEntee what the investigation would involve, but McEntee said he thought that was the context. Sure enough, that April the investigation was made public, with the revelation that it had been ongoing for months.

A spokesperson for Gaetz denied that he was one of the many who sought pardons from Trump during his final days in office.

In the nearly two years since the investigation began, Gaetz has not (yet) been charged with any crimes, though Joel Greenberg, a Gaetz associate, pleaded guilty in the spring to six criminal charges. He agreed to sing to investigators.

If McEntee’s name sounds familiar, that’s because he was the former college quarterback who became Trump’s “bag man” in the final stretch of his one term presidency. He became known as the guy who would do anything Trump wanted. One high-profile secretary described him as a “fucking idiot.”

Mariah Carey And Millie Bobby Brown Hilariously Reenact The Opening To Mariah Carey’s ‘Honey’ Video

Mariah Carey recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of her RIAA-certified, five-time Platinum album Butterfly, which features the singles “Honey” and “My All.” Amidst the celebration from both the pop star and her fans, she opted to show off her funny side by reenacting one of the album’s most iconic videos, this time with a surprise guest.

In a TikTok video posted Saturday, the “We Belong Together” singer was joined by Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown for a 2022 take on the opening scene from the video for “Honey.” Carey reprised her role as the hostage, while Brown and others played the roles of mafia members giving her threatening warnings. In the end, they all joined together to yell “You gon’ die!” in unison.

Butterfly was released in 1997 to both positive critical and commercial acclaim. The album debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart and sold 236,000 copies in its first week, remaining in the top 20 for 21 weeks. Big Guy Donald Trump Finally Got Invited To The Queen’s Memorial Service, Though Not The Actual Funeral

When Queen Elizabeth II passed away earlier this month, tributes (and some not-quite-tributes) poured in. One was from Donald Trump, who wrote a very nice note about her on Truth Social, where he’s usually not so nice. Despite the warm sentiments, it was unclear whether he would be among the elites invited to her funeral. Now, about a week and a half later, he’s finally got his invite — although it’s technically not for the funeral.

As per The Telegraph, invitations went out Thursday for a memorial service, which will be held two days after the Queen’s funeral, scheduled for Monday at Westminster Abbey. It’s called the Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and Trump wasn’t the only former president invited. Barrack Obama, George W Bush, Bill Clinton, and Jimmy Carter were also offered spots at the event.

Joe Biden was the only American figure invited to the official funeral, due to the high number of dignitaries from around the world expected to attend.

After Elizabeth II’s passing, a message appeared on Trump’s Truth Social feed, which exhibited a marked difference from his usual aggressive malarkey:

Melania and I are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Together with our family and fellow Americans, we send our sincere condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom during this time of great sorrow and grief. Queen Elizabeth’s historic and remarkable reign left a tremendous legacy of peace and prosperity for Great Britain. Her leadership and enduring diplomacy secured and advanced alliances with the United States and countries around the world. However, she will always be remembered for her faithfulness to her country and her unwavering devotion to her fellow countrymen and women. Melania and I will always cherish our time together with the Queen, and never forget Her Majesty’s generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor. What a grand and beautiful lady she was—there was nobody like her! Our thoughts and prayers will remain with the great people of the United Kingdom as you honor her most meaningful life and exceptional service to the people. May God bless the Queen, may she reign forever in our hearts, and may God hold her and Prince Philip in abiding care.

A College Football Player Called For A Fair Catch On His Own 1

It is a phrase that every single football coach is contractually required to say at some point: special teams are a third of the game. There are so many examples over the years of football games that have been decided by someone doing something extremely good or extremely bad on special teams, and while offenses and defenses tend to get most of the attention, game-changing plays on special teams tend to stick with you a little more than most — unless you are an Alabama fan, you can see an example of that right here.

Anyway, Abilene Christian entered Saturday’s game against Missouri needing just about everything to go right to pull off an upset, as the Wildcats, an FCS squad, walked into SEC country as 31.5-point underdogs. Instead, they got one of the more perplexing special teams decisions you will ever see, as wide receiver and return man Kendall Catalon opted to call for a fair catch instead of letting the ball bounce into the end zone.

The catch: Catalon did not exactly have a ton of space behind him, as he caught the ball while his heels were more or less on the very edge of the end zone.

My assumption here is that he thought he was catching it in the end zone. Still, just let it bounce into the end zone next time.

Pirates Infielder Ke’Bryan Hayes Tossed In Some Sunflower Seeds While A Mets Player Rounded Third

This Pittsburgh Pirates season has been defined by two things: Oneil Cruz hitting and throwing baseballs really hard, and weird stuff happening at third base. Earlier this year, infielder Rodolfo Castro slid into third and had his cell phone fall out of his pocket, which was pretty silly but still led to him issuing up an apology for the whole thing.

The latest edition of “weird stuff happening at the hot corner for the Buccos” came on Friday night during the team’s 4-3 loss to the New York Mets. In the bottom of the third inning, Tomás Nido punched one into shallow right field. A hit-and-run was on, so Eduardo Escobar was on his horse before the ball even got to home. He kept running and running, and eventually, he was able to slide into home and give the Mets their first run of the game.

Watch until the end of the highlight, notice anything? Well, after the game, SNY’s Todd Zeile pointed out that Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes, in the middle of the play, took his glove off and threw in some sunflower seeds.

Now, listen, it’s easy to get jokes off here but Hayes didn’t really have anything else to do here — the ball was hit into right field, he was headed to third, and his pitcher was backing up the catcher in case the throw went awry, while Nido stayed at first. We do not blame him for wanting to have a snack, as sunflower seeds are very good.
