Jimmy Kimmel Was Overjoyed By The Revelation That Donald Trump Had Planned To Fire Ivanka And Jared Via Twitter

Maggie Haberman’s new book, Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America, has yet to even be released. But it’s already giving people plenty to talk about. Among the revelations we’ve learned so far: As president, Trump had an unhealthy obsession with knowing the details of people’s sexuality, he refused to use the same toilet as Barack Obama (and liked to brag about that fact), and his favorite thing about being president was the additional fame it brought him.

Sadly, none of those anecdotes were all that surprising. But one tidbit that has surprised nearly everyone, including Jimmy Kimmel, is that Trump had at one point planned to fire his beloved daughter Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner — via Twitter, of all places.

On Wednesday night, Kimmel could barely contain his laughter as he shared the story with his audience:

According to [Haberman’s] book… Trump, at one point, was going to fire his daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared with a tweet. He was going to fire them on Twitter! But his chief of staff, John Kelly, was able to stop him from doing it by waving a KFC drumstick in front of him and tossing it across the room.

Haberman wrote that Trump was racist; he assumed staffers who weren’t white at the White House were waiters; he was homophobic, he was transphobic, he had problem dealing with female leaders of other countries; he called Angela Merkel a bitch; the first time he met the then-prime minister of Britain Theresa May, he said to her: ‘Some people are pro-life, some people are pro-choice. Imagine if some animals with tattoos raped your daughter and she got pregnant.’ And then he asked her about the windmills near his golf course in Ireland.

“See, that’s the thing about Trump,” Kimmel noted. “One thing he is is a great conversationalist.”

ASAP Rocky Doesn’t Find The Epic Rolling Loud Mosh Pit Meme Funny

ASAP Rocky is the latest internet meme sensation and he’s not fond of all the jokes. His Rolling Loud New York appearance — one he claimed was his last performance before the release of his upcoming untitled album — was cut short due to a noise ordinance by the festival.

“I am so hurt right now! Last night was supposed to be a turning point in my live shows from the old to new!” Rocky said. “I will take full responsibility for the circumstances of what led to last night’s show being everything it was and everything it wasn’t.”

Down in the dumps by unsuccessfully bringing the vision of his performance to life, Rocky has been on the receiving end of countless trolls after jumping into the crowd and evidently regretting his decision moments after.

The greatest troll of all is Rocky’s good ol’ pal Tyler The Creator, who placed the photo on a birthday cake, as he does notoriously.

Last night, ASAP finally addressed his distraught facial expression and took to Instagram to comment on a post made by @panicroom.nyc, captioned, “when she keep sucking.” Rocky declared, “That sh*t not funny. Sum lil bih was squeezing life out my nutz b.”

Perhaps, after addressing the severity of his mosh pit mishap, the internet will take it easy on Rocky. Then again, the internet is ruthless and will likely keep the jokes rolling.

Who Is Josh Working For In ‘She-Hulk?’

WARNING: Spoilers for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 7 below.

She-Hulk cannot catch a break when it comes to love. Once again, Jen Walters (Tatiana Maslany) finds herself getting bailed on by a guy, and once again, it’s because the dude in question is only interested in her hulking green form. However, this time around, the latest jerk in Jen’s life takes the situation to a far more toxic and dangerous place.

In Episode 7, Jen is practically floating after being asked out on a date by Josh (Trevor Salter), the cute guy she met in last week’s wedding episode. After three dates, Jen eventually invites Josh into her apartment under the impression that she finally found someone who likes her for being “just Jen.” Sadly, that goes out the window when Josh is missing in the morning. As the episode progresses, it’s starting to look a whole like Josh ghosted her. Turns out, Josh did something far worse.

In the final moments, the episode flashes back to the night of Jen and Josh’s last night. While she’s out cold, he’s seen copying the contents of her phone before taking a picture of Jen while she’s naked and asleep. (That’s sexual violence, buddy.) Josh then sends an emoji text to someone called “HulkKing” and the meaning is abundantly clear: He has Jen’s blood.

Who Is Josh Working For?

Let’s jump back to Episode 6. While Jen navigates the wedding of her childhood best friend, Nikki (Ginger Gonzaga) and Mallory Book (Renée Elise Goldsberry) discover a website called “Intelligencia” that’s populated with angry online trolls posting about She-Hulk. We’re talking death threats and everything. At the end of the episode, an Intelligencia user named HulkKing is seen messaging a lab where another needle is being fashioned to steal She-Hulk’s blood. Jen unknowingly thwarted a previous plan in Episode 2 where it became clear that her skin can’t be pierced when she’s in her Hulk form.

Enter Josh.

After gaining Jen’s trust, he stole her blood at his most vulnerable and will be delivering it to Intelligencia, which is the name of a super-villain group in the Marvel Comics. Traditionally, that group is led by a Hulk villain named The Leader, who was recently revealed as the villain in Captain America: New World Older. In fact, the character was introduced all the way back in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Remember the scene where Tim Blake Nelson suffers a head wound and has some of the Hulk’s gamma-infused blood dripping directly into his brain? That was the start of The Leader.

Is The Leader Behind ‘She-Hulk’s Intelligencia?

As of this writing, fans are running rampant with theories that Nelson’s Leader is behind the plot to obtain She-Hulk’s blood. It would fit with Intelligencia’s comic book origins. That said, Jameela Jamil’s Titania could very easily be the one pulling the strings, or a villain who has yet to reveal themselves. She-Hulk has no shortage of potential suspects, especially among Jen’s questionable suitors. Remember that one weird guy who kept asking if her skin was unbreakable? What was that about?

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law streams new episodes Thursday on Disney+.

Conservatives Are Mad That Lizzo Twerked While Playing The Crystal Flute

No matter what Lizzo does, conservatives are often upset about it. The newest example involves her recent playing of James Madison’s crystal flute from 1813, which she was invited to do by Carla Hayden, the Librarian Of Congress. “B*tch, I just twerked and played James Madison’s crystal flute from the 1800s. We just made history tonight,” she exclaimed onstage.

Apparently, people are mad. This of course involves Ben Shapiro (who was distraught after hearing “WAP”). He tweeted: “This Lizzo-flute controversy is a perfect example of what I have termed Face Tattoo Phenomenon™: the phenomenon whereby someone does something deliberately controversial in an attempt to draw attention, and then acts offended when you notice.”

He added: “If all we had seen was the clip of Lizzo playing the flute in the halls of the Library of Congress while wearing a semi-modest outfit, everyone would have shrugged. But that’s not the clip everyone championed as groundbreaking: it was the clip where she bragged about twerking.”

Another conservative wrote: “The thing that is obvious but people don’t want to say is that this is about humiliating white people, about desecrating American history and heritage. That’s what you do when you’re a conqueror. Humiliate the conquered.” Someone cleverly quote-tweeted with: “BREAKING: Master race conquered by a C and D notes being played on an old flute.”

Lizzo is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

DeMar DeRozan Told The Story Behind How He Almost Joined The Lakers Before The Russell Westbrook Trade

DeMar DeRozan is coming off of the best season of his NBA career. After spending his first 12 years in the Association as a member of the Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs, DeRozan joined the Chicago Bulls prior to the 2021-22 campaign and earned All-NBA Second Team honors for the second time. DeRozan’s 27.9 points per game were the most in his career, and he legitimately had his name in the MVP conversation for a lengthy spell as the Bulls spent a whole lot of time among the Eastern Conference’s elite.

DeRozan appeared on JJ Redick’s podcast, “The Old Man and the Three,” and told the story of how that almost did not come to be. He’s mentioned in the past that nearly went home to join the Los Angeles Lakers and how the team’s acquisition of Russell Westbrook prevented that, and on Reddick’s pod, DeRozan went into just how close he came to suiting up alongside Anthony Davis and LeBron James.

“To my knowledge, I thought it was a done deal,” DeRozan said. “I remember I took a trip to Mexico just to get away because I could just feel the anticipation of everything coming to play. So I was like, I’m gonna get away for a couple days, take my mind off it. And by the time I come home, it’s free agency — hey, signing with the Lakers.

“I’m sleep one morning in Mexico, I get a call from Kyle Lowry, and he said, ‘They just made the trade for Russ, what’s going on? I thought the deal was done for you to go to the Lakers?’” DeRozan continued. “And I was like, I’m confused, I’m looking at my phone like, damn, that did happen. Well, I guess that’s out the window.”

DeRozan went on to say he believed that he thought the Lakers were his only option, to the point that he “didn’t even entertain anything else.” But despite that, the Westbrook trade made him change how he approached things.

“All my other options I would’ve entertained, I pushed it to the side because I was hell bent on playing for the Lakers,” he said.

The Los Angeles native did get to play with James this summer, though, as the two suited up alongside one another at the Drew League.

BTS’ Suga And The Golden State Warriors Link Up In Japan

There’s got to be some type of chokehold the Golden State Warriors have on the K-pop industry. First, it was BamBam of GOT7. And now, Suga of BTS.

What started off with a tweet of the BTS rapper holding up a customized jersey with his name and the No. 3 (originally Jordan Poole’s number) on Monday (September 26), followed by a response from Stephen Curry the next day, ended with an in-person, chill session with some of the Golden State Warriors themselves at the team’s practice on Thursday in Japan.

For the first time ever, both the Washington Wizards and Golden State Warriors visit Japan this week as part of the NBA preseason games, also marking the 15th and 16th NBA games ever in the country, according to ESPN.

As Suga’s name trended high on social earlier this week, after being spotted at the airport, fans could only speculate if BTS’ resident basketball fan was going to meet up with the NBA stars ahead of their games at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan. And, of course, they were right. Now, it’s only a matter of time before DubNation recruits the whole K-pop industry.

Last season, GOT7’s BamBam was given the “Golden State Warriors Ambassador” title after showing an immense amount of support towards Andrew Wiggins. The partnership continued when the Thai K-pop star himself showed up at the Chase Center and released exclusive merch with the team.

3,700-year-old Babylonian stone tablet gets translated, changes history

This article originally appeared on 07.10.21

Dr. Daniel Mansfield and his team at the University of New South Wales in Australia have just made an incredible discovery. While studying a 3,700-year-old tablet from the ancient civilization of Babylon, they found evidence that the Babylonians were doing something astounding: trigonometry!

Most historians have credited the Greeks with creating the study of triangles’ sides and angles, but this tablet presents indisputable evidence that the Babylonians were using the technique 1,500 years before the Greeks ever were.

Mansfield and his team are, understandably, incredibly proud. What they discovered is that the tablet is actually an ancient trigonometry table.

Mansfield said:

“The huge mystery, until now, was its purpose – why the ancient scribes carried out the complex task of generating and sorting the numbers on the tablet. Our research reveals that Plimpton 322 describes the shapes of right-angle triangles using a novel kind of trigonometry based on ratios, not angles and circles. It is a fascinating mathematical work that demonstrates undoubted genius.”

“The tablet not only contains the world’s oldest trigonometric table; it is also the only completely accurate trigonometric table, because of the very different Babylonian approach to arithmetic and geometry. This means it has great relevance for our modern world. Babylonian mathematics may have been out of fashion for more than 3,000 years, but it has possible practical applications in surveying, computer graphics and education. This is a rare example of the ancient world teaching us something new.”

The tablet predates Greek astronomer Hipparchus, who has long been regarded as the father of trigonometry. Mansfield’s colleague, Norman Widberger, added:

“Plimpton 322 predates Hipparchus by more than 1,000 years. It opens up new possibilities not just for modern mathematics research, but also for mathematics education. With Plimpton 322 we see a simpler, more accurate trigonometry that has clear advantages over our own.”

“A treasure trove of Babylonian tablets exists, but only a fraction of them have been studied yet. The mathematical world is only waking up to the fact that this ancient but very sophisticated mathematical culture has much to teach us.”

People were understandably excited by the news.

Some mathematicians actually think studying the Babylonians back then could help us improve the way we do trigonometry today.

Of course, there were the haters…

But all in all, Twitter users were pretty impressed with the Babylonians’ skills.

Congratulations to Dr. Mansfield and his team on their incredible discovery… and for making trigonometry exciting!

Belgian Olympic marathoner breaks down in tears of disbelief upon hearing she finished 28th

This article originally appeared on 08.12.21

Imagine deciding to take up a hobby that usually requires many years to perfect at age 35, and three years later ending up in the top 30 in the world at the highest international competition for it.

That’s what happened to a 38-year-old math and physics teacher from Diepenbeek, Belgium. According to Netherlands News Live, Mieke Gorissen has jogged 10km (a little over six miles) a few times a week for exercise for many years. But in 2018, she decided to hire a running trainer to improve her technique. As it turned out, she was a bit of a natural at distance running.

Three years later, Gorissen found herself running her third marathon. But not just any old marathon (as if there were such a thing)—the marathon at the Tokyo Olympics. And not only did she compete with the world’s most elite group of runners, she came in 28th out of the 88 competing in the race.

With the heat and humidity in Tokyo, even completing the race was a major accomplishment. (Fifteen women competing did not finish the marathon.) But to come in in the top 30 when you just started focusing on distance running three years ago? Unbelievable.

In fact, Gorissen could hardly believe it herself. A video of her reaction upon hearing her results has gone viral for its purity and genuine humility. “No,” she said when a reporter told her she came in 28th in the race. “That’s not possible.”

Then she burst into tears.

Her emotional disbelief is so moving. “I was already happy to finish the race,” she said through sobs. “I do think I have reached my goal and that I can be happy.”

“I also think I lost a toenail,” she added, laughing.

Even after the English translation ends in the video, it’s clear how much this finish meant to her. A remarkable accomplishment for a 38-year-old who knits and reads for fun and who has only run two marathons prior to competing in the Olympics.

According to her Olympic profile, she’s glad she got started with distance running later in life. “If I started running in my teens, it wouldn’t have been good for me,” she said. “I wasn’t really happy then, I would have been too hard on myself and I would have lost myself in it in a way that wasn’t healthy. It came at exactly the right time.”

Congratulations, Mieke. You’ve given us all the inspiration to set new goals and dream bigger than we ever thought possible.

An amazing new study shows that youth violent crime is down 78 percent since 1994

Here’s another positive trend in America that you probably won’t hear on your local TV news, where if it bleeds, it leads. A new report based on FBI data found that violent crime among those ages 17 and under dropped 78% from 1994 to 2020.

The study found a big drop in youth violent crime in 2020 and although some of that can be attributed to the pandemic, violent crime rates were already trending in that direction.

“In 2020, there were an estimated 424,300 arrests involving persons younger than 18—38% fewer than the number of arrests in 2019, and half the number of arrests 5 years earlier,” according to the study. “Less than 1 in 10 (8%) of these arrests were for a violent crime.”

The report may come as a surprise to a lot of Americans, who are inundated with news stories about crime every night on the news. A study by HuffPost and YouGov found that the average American is woefully uninformed about the state of crime in America.

The 2020 poll found that only 10% of Americans correctly believed that crime had fallen over the past decade, while 57% incorrectly believed it had risen.

“If you report crime increasingly, then people will often think it’s increasing,” Vincent Schiraldi, a senior fellow at the Columbia University Justice Lab, told NPR. “But there’s been about a two-thirds decline in the number of kids locked up. At the same time, we’re actually treating the kids when they screw up, rather than just throwing them in these facilities that often exacerbate the crime.”

News of the positive trend should encourage politicians and judges to push for rehabilitation programs instead of long prison sentences for young people.

“These data reflect an encouraging trend—one that has in fact been developing over the last three decades—and offer a welcome counter-narrative to claims that youth crime is on the rise,” OJJDP Administrator Liz Ryan said in a press release. “They also give us reason to be optimistic about the course of juvenile justice reform, particularly efforts in many jurisdictions to replace harsh punishments with personal development opportunities and to design programs that build support into accountability.”

The data also gives researchers more information to make smarter decisions on policies affecting young people.

“The continuing decline in youth arrests overall, and for violent offenses in particular, gives us important information about the volume and nature of arrests that should be considered when developing strategies to support youth and reduce their justice involvement,” NIJ Director Nancy La Vigne said in a press release.

The drop in youth violent crime mirrors the trend in violent crime in America over the past 30 years. In 1991, 758.2 out of 100,000 people were the victims of violent crime. This number dropped by almost half by 2019 (380.8). There has been a slight uptick in violent crime during the pandemic.

The recent increase in violent crime in America has been characterized by many on the right as the result of criminal justice reform in liberal-leaning cities. However, red states have seen some of the highest murder rates of all.

A positive trend with America’s youth bodes well for the country’s future. When young people are less violent that means the adults of the future will probably commit fewer crimes as well.

Baby Tate Gets The Spotlight In Babyface’s Groovy ‘Tonight Show’ Performance Of ‘Don’t Even Think About It’

It has appeared that Baby Tate is set for a huge breakout for some time and with no less a music industry titan than Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds backing her, that eventuality is looking closer than ever. Both Babies stopped by The Tonight Show to perform Babyface’s new single “Don’t Even Think About It,” which prominently features Baby Tate. She straight-up steals the show, standing front-and-center in a floor-length aquamarine feather boa jacket with her face beat to the gawds, rapping and showing off her impressive singing chops backed by Babyface and The Roots.

The timing is impressive as well. While the duo is ostensibly there to promote Babyface’s upcoming 11th(!) studio album Girls’ Night Out, with the longtime R&B legend ceding the spotlight to Baby Tate, fans will undoubtedly find themselves encountering her own mixtape, Mani/Pedi, which drops this Friday, September 30 on Warner Records. It could very well be the catalyst to that expected breakout after she spent over a year promoting it with singles like “Pedi,” “S.L.O. (Slut Him Out),” “Dancing Queen,” and “Ain’t No Love” with 2 Chainz. Fellow Atlanta native Kali is also set to appear on the project, which features 14 tracks and follows Tate’s 2020 EP After The Rain.

Baby Tate is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
