Carlos Alcaraz Hit An Outrageous Behind-The-Back Shot To Win A Point Against Jannik Sinner

The final quarterfinals match at the U.S. Open was very well the most entertaining one, as 11-seed Jannik Sinner took on 3-seed Carlos Alcaraz in a battle of two of the best young talents in tennis.

The Spaniard took the first set 6-3, but found himself in a dogfight in the second set, going the distance to a 12th game on serve, with Sinner fighting off a number of break points to stay in the set. Sinner got himself a game point opportunity and hit a monster serve out wide, forcing Alcaraz to simply stab at the ball to get it back into play, where Sinner was waiting at the service line to hit what should’ve been a winner.

However, Alcaraz, being a magician on the court somehow managed a behind-the-back shot after overrunning the ball, which seemed to stun Sinner who hit a weak drop shot that Alcaraz punished for a winner to force the game back to deuce.

Sinner would go on to win the game and force a tiebreak, but Alcaraz undoubtedly won over the crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium with his unbelievable, instinctive behind-the-back shot that will be on highlight reels for years, as the young star continues his ascent in the world of tennis.

Jerry Seinfeld Is Kith’s Latest Model And Reactions Are… Mixed

Jerry Seinfeld is the new face of KITH and… people don’t really know how to take it. Ronnie Fieg’s streetwear brand is no stranger to celebrity cameos, especially when it comes to eternally cool faces whose cultural cache hasn’t diminished with age (see their campaign starring Steve Buscemi) but there is something about the autumnal vibes of the FW22 line and Seinfeld’s weirdly melancholy posing that makes this particular campaign especially funny in a way that I don’t think it was intended to come across. The campaign was shot by legendary photographer Mark Seliger and shows Seinfeld in all sorts of outfits that you’d never imagine he’d actually wear, and yet somehow, look relatively normal on him.

He often looks… cool even.

While Seinfeld seems like an unlikely choice for a streetwear label that skews towards a much younger crowd, we’ve long contended that the legendary ’90s sitcom is a pretty potent source of inspiration for modern streetwear and if you’ve ever caught an episode of Seinfeld’s Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, you’re well aware that Seinfeld’s sneaker game is ridiculously on point. That didn’t stop people on Twitter from cracking some pretty harsh — and funny — jokes at the legendary comedian’s expense.

A handful of people seem to have loved the campaign, but we’re pretty sure if KITH had landed Jason Alexander (probably an easier get, too) this would have no doubt been universally beloved. Here are some of our favorite reactions.

Ty Dolla Sign Wanted To Redo His Album After Hearing Leon Thomas’ New Album

Ty Dolla Sign’s impact on music goes without saying. He is regularly called upon to handle other artists’ choruses, or simply provide creative energy when in the studio. While he will undeniably go down as a legend and surely has a lot more to offer, he’s also humble. One example of this came after signing the former Nickelodeon star Leon Thomas.

Thomas and Ty were recently interviewed by Rolling Stone and spoke about how their partnership came to be. In a moment that had to be special for the “Love Jones” artist, Ty Dolla Sign spoke about what hearing Thomas’ new music made him feel. “I love the way Leon speaks for himself,” the Featuring Ty Dolla Sign artist stated. “I’m gonna just be real with you: It’s giving classic. It’s giving no skips. All the way through, just ‘Oh my f*cking God!’ I’m super excited for this guy. It made me want to go back to the studio and redo my whole album.”

This is definitely high praise coming from a music veteran like Ty Dolla Sign, but it’s certainly warranted after hearing his new songs “Love Jones” and “X-Rated,” the latter featuring Benny The Butcher.

Check out Ty Dolla Sign and Leon Thomas’ full Rolling Stone interview here.

Ty Dolla Sign is a Warner Music Artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Tom Hanks Said The Discussion About Whether Or Not To Make A ‘Forrest Gump’ Sequel Lasted ‘All Of 40 Minutes’

To this day, Forrest Gump remains one of Tom Hanks’ highest grossing movies. Not only was it the top moneymaker of 1994, but it also semi-infamously beat the likes of Pulp Fiction for Best Picture (and a slew of other Oscars, including Hanks’ second in a row). Nowadays, you know what that would mean: a sequel, a franchise, maybe some spin-offs. (Lt. Dan and Bubba would both get Paramount+ series.) But back in the day, Hanks says, the discussion about whether to make Forrest Gump 2 lasted about 3 ½ times shorter than the movie. And obviously the decision was no.

“I will say that, with a long time in between, we did take a stab at talking about another ‘Forrest Gump’ that lasted all of 40 minutes,” Hanks revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (as caught by IndieWire). “And then we never, we said, ‘Guys, come on.’”

There could have easily been a second Forrest Gump. The movie wasn’t exactly faithful to the novel, by Winston Groom, where, for starters, our simpleton hero is actually 6’6” and 242 pounds. There’s a lot of misadventures screenwriter Eric Roth left out, like Forrest playing in a folk band with Jenny, working for NASA, becoming a stunt man on Raquel Welch movies, even a brief dalliance as a wrestler. Groom even published a sequel, Gump & Co., the year after the movie burned up the box office. But it was not to be.

“A smart thing I did is I’ve never signed a contract that had a contractual obligation to a sequel,” Hanks explained. “I’ve always said, ‘Guys, if there’s a reason to do it, let’s do it. But you guys can’t force me.’ There is that natural inclination that is one of pure commerce that says, ‘Hey, you just had a hit, so do it again, and you’ll have a hit.’”

In other words, Hanks is saying that you don’t make a movie just to make money. Imagine that! But he did believe in the film; he even helped pay for some of it after Paramount wouldn’t pony up some extra bucks. Anyway, instead of making more Gump, Hanks simply kept reuniting with director Robert Zemeckis. That’s why we have Cast Away, The Polar Express, and the new live-action (plus CGI, of course) take on Pinocchio.

Harry Styles Had Fun Addressing Spit-Gate In His First Concert After The Chaotic ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ Premiere

A lot happened during the Venice Film Festival premiere of Don’t Worry Darling, but one (fake) story towered above them all: Some people thought that pop star-turned-actor Harry Styles spit on his co-star Chris Pine. While it has been revealed that no spitting occurred, Styles could not help but make light of the situation at his New York show on Wednesday, September 7.

In a fan-posted Twitter video, Styles can be heard addressing the viral topic. “It’s wonderful to be back in New York. I just popped quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine, but fear not, we’re back,” the Harry’s House artist jokes as attendees erupted in screams, applause, and laughter.

Styles then turned the rant into a more endearing and encouraging speech, saying “My only job tonight is to entertain you. I promise you we’re going to do our absolute very best. Your job tonight is to have as much fun as you possibly can. If you want to sing, you want to dance, please feel free to do whatever it is you want to do. Please feel free to be whoever it is you always wanted to be in this room tonight.”

Styles chose to steer into the skid and it seemingly went over well.

Ex-Disney CEO Bob Iger Predicts The Death Of Traditional TV And A Rough Future For Several Streaming Services

Speaking at the 2022 Code Conference, former Disney CEO Bob Iger unloaded a cannon of predictions, calling into question the future of some streaming sites and shrugging toward the end of traditional television.

“Linear TV and satellite is marching towards a great precipice and it will be pushed off,” Iger said, according to Deadline. “I can’t tell you when, but it goes away.” That’s not the wildest of claims considering we’ve all been watching the slow death of traditional shows that just (gasp) come on at a scheduled time and (double gasp) hope the human in front of the TV chooses them. However, instead of sharing a rosy post-TV vision of the future for every on-demand outlet, Iger was steadfastly bleak about the streaming battle royale.

“I don’t think all streamers are created equal. I don’t think they’ll all make it,” Iger said.

Naturally, he claimed that Disney+ would emerge just fine, alongside Prime Video and Apple+ because of their huge war chests and different goals as tech-first companies, as well as Netflix because of its staying power. The big-name he left out of his prediction was notable: HBO Max (now in turmoil after the Warner Bros. Discovery merger and new CEO David Zaslav treating movies like tax write-offs).

He also didn’t speak about specialty streamers or pour out an on-stage Four Loko for Quibi.

Dubbing this an “era of great transformation,” Iger also predicted that cinemas would never be packed to the degree they were before Covid, but that movies would endure. Presumably, we’ll all just be watching them from the comfort of our couches on whatever streaming platforms survive.

Florence Pugh Seems To Be Trying To Lower The ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ Drama With A Loving Post About Everyone, Especially ‘Bloody Cute’ Chris Pine

Don’t Worry Darling isn’t even coming out for a couple more weeks, but it’s already been a rollercoaster ride. The last few weeks have seen Olivia Wilde’s directorial follow-up to Booksmart go from hotly anticipated awards season release with a hot trailer to a tabloid factory. The drama seemed to peak during its Venice Film Festival premiere, where things got so tense that people thought — incorrectly, it seems! — that Harry Styles spat on co-star Chris Pine. But now it seems at least one of them is trying to lower the temperature.

On Wednesday, Florence Pugh, who stars in the film as a 1950s housewife, posted a loving ode to the film and its cast and crew on Instagram. “I’m still taking it all in! Qwoaaar. What a moment this was?” she wrote innocently, as though nothing had gone awry. She also gushed about going to the Venice Film Festival for the first time, but then made sure to offer blanket praise to her coworkers. “And to all the cast and crew as well who helped to make this movie, thank you for all of your hard work. We genuinely wouldn’t have been there without your talent and we appreciate it hugely.”

Pugh even singled out one cast member in particular.:“I also just can’t help but post how bloody cute and hilarious Chris Pine is for being the no.1 photographer, getting down on white pressed trousered knees for angles.. now that’s dedication. Love you Chrissy.”

Pugh has been a key part of the film’s drama, with claims that she may have had a fallen out with Wilde somewhere during the shoot. Pugh didn’t even show up at the awkward press conference, and she can’t attend its New York premiere (for a good reason). This post either contradicted some of the rumors that have befallen the film or simply put a happy face on the insanity. Wherever the truth lies, it’s another ambiguous chapter to a movie that’s inexplicably become the most scandalous movie of the fall.

Don’t Worry Darling this theaters on September 23.

John Boyega Doesn’t Think The Next James Bond Will Be Black

At this point, there’s a searing amount of public attention on not only who the next James Bond will be, but whether or not the super spy will be played by a Black actor. Daniel Craig has said goodbye to the role as definitively as possible, and there’s a non-zero amount of public pressure to give someone non-white a chance to hoist a martini and license to kill after over a half-century of films. Betting sites (presumably coming up with their odds using entrails and divining rods) place Henry Cavill and Rege-Jean Page at the top of the casting list, with names like Idris Elba and Tom Hardy persisting.

The point is that it’s possible the next Bond will be Black, and if that happens, it’ll be a surprise to John Boyega.

“When you’re Black, I don’t know how that goes,” he told Josh Horowitz on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast. “Look man, you as a white man who grew up in a society with Bond as a white man, that’s normal to you. Even the mention of a Black Bond to me is like, ‘Oh, Okay.’ I’m just here like, ‘Okay, I don’t necessarily believe that, but if that’s what they’re doing then okay.’ That’s very surprising to me, but as an actor you just kind of stay out of that conversation. If it’s for you, then maybe then. But if it’s not, then you enjoy it in a movie theater like everybody else.”

No doubt that opinion is guided partially by Boyega’s own well-documented experience with racism in fandom. It’s also the pragmatic view. At the end of the day, Amazon-owned MGM and Barbara Broccoli could announce Cavill as Bond tomorrow, and the franchise would chug along as it always has without much (if any) blowback.

At the risk of adding to the entrails and divining rods, he’s also not talking like an actor who’s actively in the running for the role. But who knows? Maybe there are more surprises around the corner for Bond, James Bond.

Mom hilariously tries to recreate TikTok dances in her kitchen

Mindlessly scrolling through TikTok can land you on some pretty interesting videos, including some that seem impossible. People upload all kinds of things to the platform, anywhere from rants about real versus fake grass to showing off their crazy amazing talent. For one mom on TikTok, watching other people exude rhythm while joining the latest dance craze was no longer good enough so she decided to join them. Yep, your everyday suburban mom with four kids and a knack for making sound effects decided to put down the toddler and shake her hips to the beat. It’s hilarious.

Molly the Mom seems to be able to make just about any dance funny, even though she’s actually doing pretty well. Her dance moves coupled with the sound effects, because she never uses the actual music, is bound to lighten anyone’s mood. The best part, she finishes these dance attempts with a tiny hop and kick to essentially signify the end of the dance. But she’s not always alone. Her husband has joined several videos to help Molly attempt couple challenges, which are just as hilarious as the dance videos.

@mollythemom

I get it @Millon DC: @alexander.w.t #mollysmoves

The dancing mom has more than 690,000 followers and 17 million likes. Her comments section is filled with people telling her she nailed the dance she was attempting and telling her that her videos are the highlight of their day. Molly also fields compliments and questions around her uncanny resemblance to Amy Adams, so she changed her name on TikTok to “Walmart Amy Adams” to give people a chuckle.

@mollythemom

Make me a grill. #mollysmoves

Hey, if Amy Adams can pick up a dance as quickly as Molly while having a blast and making people laugh then maybe she has a shot at Molly’s crown on TikTok. A good laugh can change anyone’s mood so hopefully a peek at Molly’s content will put a smile on your face.
