Violet Grohl Opened Up The Taylor Hawkins LA Tribute Concert Singing ‘Hallelujah’ By Leonard Cohen

The second of two Taylor Hawkins Tribute concerts happened Tuesday night (September 27th) in Los Angeles. While many artists who performed at the London Tribute show earlier this month performed again, there were quite a few performances that were unique to the LA show at Kia Forum. One of them, was the evening opening number, which saw Dave Grohl’s daughter, Violet Grohl, performing the classic “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen.

Accompanied by former Queens Of The Stone Age member Alain Johannes on guitar, Grohl delivered a somber rendition of the poignant song. The fact that Violet Grohl was chosen to start the emotional evening off, speaks to the familial nature of the tributes to the late Foo Fighters drummer as a whole. Hawkins’ son, Oliver Shane, played the drums on “My Hero” towards the end of London show, channeling his love for his father in perhaps the evening’s most iconic moment. In a way, the younger Grohl was channeling her father’s feelings for his close friend.

The LA Tribute concert also featured performances from Miley Cyrus with Def Leppard and Foo Fighters, Kesha and Chevy Metal covering David Bowie’s “Heroes,” Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt, and Dave Grohl covering Gerry Rafferty’s “Right Down The Line,” as well as Josh Homme of Queens Of The Stone Age covering “Just What I Needed” and “Shake It Up” by The Cars.

Tom Hanks, Who Doesn’t Act In Comic Book Movies, Wrote A Novel About Making A Comic Book Movie

Write what you know, right? That’s what Tom Hanks has done, sort of. According to People, the Oscar-winning actor (and occasional filmmaker) is adding “novelist” to his CV. It’s called The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece, and it’s about — that’s right — the movies. Specifically, it’s about the making of a movie. Even more specifically, it’s about the making of the kind of movie he, in his nearly 45-year career, has never made: comic book movies.

As per the book’s official synopsis, Motion Picture Masterpiece concerns the behind-the-scenes business of a “colossal, star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film and the humble comic book that inspired it.” Hanks says he drew from personal experiences.

“Every character in the book does something I’ve experienced while making a movie, as well as discovered a philosophy or learned an important lesson,” Hanks said. “Even the foolish moments are some kind of stunt I’ve pulled or mistake I’ve survived.”

The only catch, of course, is that he’s never had to play a mentor or even a villain to some some younger dude in a cape, as so many of his generation have done. It’s a gig he’s been able to avoid, probably because he’s Tom Hanks. Of course, had he done, say, Thor: The Dark World or something, would he have considered one of the only four “pretty good” films he’s ever made — a private list he will probably never make public? Who’s to say. But he’ll probably wouldn’t have graded it higher than Forrest Gump.

The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece is set to hit bookshelves on May 9, 2023.

Azealia Banks Calls Out Nicki Minaj For ‘Sabotaging Other Black Female Rappers Behind The Scenes’

Azealia Banks has taken to her Instagram Story to weigh in on the beef between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj, which has only exacerbated since the new drama featuring rising rapper Akbar V. In her typical fashion, Banks didn’t hold back on her criticisms, especially regarding the way Minaj has “relied on tokenism and sabotaging other black female rappers behind the scenes.”

Read her full post below.

“Nicki is so obsessed with cardi it’s only making me like cardi more. Like I’m perched for C2…

Nicki is giving twenty levels of peasy black girl with the burnt perm who is jealous of the Spanish girl that just moved down the block.

Anyone who grew up in the hood knows this type of social phenomenon all too well

1st off – cardi is not ugly, and even if she was her actual energy that she emits is 10x more light and positive than whatever this b*tch is giving off.

It’s giving me – sis needs a Dr.Sebi cleanse. All them mucus forming foods (i cant believe anyone still eats crisco in 2022) will REALLY have you pressed.

When you see the Dominicans put that random slice of avocado next to everything that’s what it’s giving — NUTRIENT.

Ain’t you trini sis? Where are your chickpea doubles?

Nicki needs a strawberry nutriment TWO ducolax a f*cking nap

The energy is giving : constipation, regret, low-self-esteem, hood food, grease, drop-top chicken box…

Like highkey these white girls stick the f*ck together… OKAY.

They’re trying to make sure they stay rich and dominate and make the space prime for their daughters, even if they cannot stand one another in real life these white girls really protect their space in pop-culture hard.

A smart Nicki would have done the cardi, doja, Megan collabs smiled in their faces while safaree worked on her album in the background then came through and dominated.

Without showing the world how desperately you’ve relied on tokenism and sabotaging other black female rappers behind the scenes

Like it was an eassssssssy plan but no…

We wanna feed the baby chicken bones Defend white girls in blackface And give sex offender puss

The Future Of That Long-Awaited Fourth ‘Star Trek’ Movie Is In Jeopardy Again As It’s Been Suddenly Yanked From The 2023 Release Calendar

Chris Pine has had it rough. On one hand, he plays a key supporting role in the number one movie in America. On the other, that film is Don’t Worry Darling, which improbably became the most scandal-plagued movie of early fall. His part in the flak was more lighthearted: He zoned out hard during the film’s awkward Venice Film Festival presser, and he was the (alleged, but probably not) recipient of some (almost certainly fictitious) spit during its debut screening. But now one of his biggest forthcoming movies has vanished from the release schedule.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount has yanked the long-in-the-works fourth Star Trek movie from its December 2023 slot. Three things. One: This doesn’t mean it’s never happening. Two: It was very unlikely that the studio would get a big budget fourquel only announced not that long ago off the ground in just over a year. Indeed, when the fourth Star Trek was given a go it was a surprise to some of the Pine-era cast. And three: Last month it lost its proposed director, WandaVision’s Matt Shakman, who is likely doing the MCU’s attempt at a Fantastic Four movie instead.

Whatever happens, it just means waiting longer for a follow-up to a movie that, as of this writing, came out six long years ago. Star Trek Beyond — which was co-written by the film wing’s resident Scottie, Simon Pegg — took a series that got a little too big for its britches with Star Trek Beyond and stripped it down slightly. It almost felt like an episode of the show, with its self-contained story largely regulated to a single alien planet. But until the Pine crew gets back together, there’s always that very pretty new version of Star Trek: The Motion Picture to hold you over.

Cardi B Regrets Turning Down A Multi-Million Dollar Deal With ‘Call Of Duty’

One of the most entertaining Twitter presences is Cardi B, whether she’s getting other rappers suspended or shutting down stans who are spreading rumors. Today, she shared a mistake that she’s learned from.

“My stupid decisions from the past caused me to miss out on money now,” she wrote in a tweet. “I had a multi-million dollar Call of Duty deal on the table that I couldn’t take because of court. Guys think twice about those quick decisions! Lesson learned.”

Luckily, the “WAP” performer is by no means short on money. Earlier this month she even stopped by her old Bronx middle school, Morris Park’s IS 232, to give back to her beginning by donating $100,000, with the hopes of the pledge being used for developing arts education and after-school programs. She was joined by New York City schools chancellor David Banks, Community Capacity Development founder K. Bain, and principal Desiree Resto, as she also gave students an inspirational speech: “I’m hoping we can have amazing after-school activities. Maybe like tutoring or maybe something fun like a music program. Y’all like music, y’all like to dance?”

Tegan And Sara Release The New Dehd-Inspired Single ‘I Can’t Grow Up’

Next month, Tegan And Sara are unveiling their new album Crybaby, as well as a TV series called High School, based on their memoir of the same title. Today, they released “I Can’t Grow Up,” a single from the LP.

According to Sara Quin, “I Can’t Grow Up” was “musically inspired by Chicago band Dehd and their album Flower of Devotion. The song started on bass, an instrument I’d never written with until Crybaby, and I was channeling a little bit of Emily Kempf from Dehd, and Peter Hook from New Order. My partner had traveled back to the U.S., after a year of being stuck in Canada during the pandemic, and I was enjoying late nights alone writing music and singing full tilt in the basement.”

Aside from all of their professional projects, Sara also had a baby earlier this year. Tegan confirmed the rumor by writing on Instagram, “My favourite part of this article about Sara announcing she has a new baby on IG is that they used a photo of me performing at the top of it. So Sara has a baby, whatever. I have a microphone. Take that Sara.”

Russell Brand Has Gone From Super Progressive To Joining Don Jr. And Other MAGA Heads On Rumble After Being Censored On YouTube

As you may recall, Russell Brand was once a very loud lefty progressive. He starred in documentaries about ending the war on drugs and fixing income inequality. He even once had a biweekly column in the liberal rag The New Statesman. Now look at him. After the pandemic began, he found a new audience by preaching to anti-vaxxers and other right-wing conspiracy theories — all while losing some of his old audience, who thought he’d “officially lost his mind.” Now the rebranding (so to speak) appears to be complete: He’s signed up with the far right video platform Rumble.

What was the final nail in the coffin that got him hanging with the likes of Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Dinesh D’Souza and other conservative creeps? It’s because one of his YouTube videos was censored. He wasn’t banned. He simply had a video taken down that included misinformation. Brand even admitted that he’d gotten something wrong, in a video apology he later took down himself..

“We made a mistake in saying [here he jokingly self-censors his incorrect claim] was now recommended by the NIH. What we should have said is their trialing [censored, in the same way]. That’s what we should have said,” he said. He also stressed that he and his team “have a responsibility to make sure that the information we convey is absolutely 100 percent as accurate as it possibly could be.” Which, when dropping the original video, they didn’t.

And yet Brand claims, because he spread false claims he himself later admitted were wrong, he’s been “persecuted.” So while he’s taking some — but by no means all — of his toys and going to the place that plays home to the likes of Alex Jones. August company indeed.

“I believe we’re at a point of crisis and things need to radically change fast, and I believe we’ll be able to communicate our message more freely on Rumble,” Brand said. “And this misinformation strike and take down demonstrates exactly what it is we’re talking about. We made an error, in my opinion, a relatively small error, and we’re being penalized for it. That looks like censorship.”

Does it, though? While Brand argued that the same rule doesn’t apply to people like Rachel Maddow, citing a clip in which she erroneously once said vaccines completely block COVID, his logic is a little wishy-washy. If he’d been banned, his about-face might make sense. But he wasn’t. He dropped a video featuring claims he himself confessed were wrong, and it was removed because it contained misinformation that could endanger lives. It’s the flimsiest excuse possible for decamping to the far right — while, it’s worth pointing out, staying for the most on YouTube. He’s having his cake and eating it, too.

But it might just work. After all, today’s far right likes few things more than a lefty who joins them on the dark side. How long until someone who used to rail against corruption is posting on Trump’s failing Twitter clone?

You’re not broken: People share experiences with intrusive thoughts to help normalize them

When I was younger I used to think I was dying or that I would get kidnapped by a random stranger, but I kept it to myself because I thought something was wrong with me. I thought that telling people would confirm this fear, so I kept it inside my entire life until I was an adult and learned it was part of ADHD and other disorders, such as OCD and PTSD. But it doesn’t have to be part of a disorder at all—a vast amount of people just have intrusive thoughts, and a Twitter user, Laura Gastón, is trying to normalize them for others.

Gastón tweeted that parents should talk to their children about intrusive thoughts and normalize them so children aren’t afraid that they’re broken. The response to her series of tweets was overwhelming, with more than 144,000 likes and 19,000 retweets. People chimed in with their own stories of intrusive thoughts and the stigma attached to them. One Twitter user was told that they were possessed and their parents sought spiritual counsel to help them. But intrusive thoughts aren’t a spiritual attack, they don’t even have to be negative thoughts. Intrusive thoughts are simply thoughts that pop into your head with no reason or logical connection to what is currently happening.

The name for the phenomenon sounds scarier than it actually is. It may help to think of the thoughts as a pop-up on an online article you’re reading. There you are scrolling along, really invested in this article and an ad for teeth whitening strips is suddenly obscuring half the page, so you find the camouflaged “X” and close it out. But somehow before you make it to the bottom of the page, there’s that dang pop-up again. That’s what it’s like to have an intrusive thought most of the time. It’s not always scary, it’s not all-consuming, it’s just there.

There are some intrusive thoughts that are distressing, especially if it’s a new thought. Often the thoughts that cause the most distress are the intrusive thoughts around hurting a child or doing something illegal. Having an intrusive thought that is concerning doesn’t mean you’re going to act on it. Our brains think thousands of thoughts daily and most of the time we are unaware of all of the activity because we’re focused on one particular thing, but then we have a pop-up.

You could be struggling with finances in general but at the moment you’re working on a collage of sea turtles with your 9-year-old, next thing you know you have an intrusive thought about robbing a bank. Are you going to rob a bank? No, because you’re not a bank robber. Well, most people are not bank robbers so having the fleeting thought isn’t going to make you become one. It might make you think you’ve lost it for a few minutes, but it’s a completely normal human experience. Intrusive thoughts, not robbing banks.

Kids have intrusive thoughts as well, and it seems from the Twitter thread, that sometimes they’re dismissed by parents. Anna tweeted, “yes. I had severe intrusive thoughts in childhood, starting before age 7-8. I told my parents & asked for help but they refused. It was terrifying. I had no idea what was happening.” She went on to say that she was diagnosed with OCD as an adult and is currently in therapy.

Another user, Benjamin tweeted, “I was today years old when I learned that there is a word for this. I have a few of these that come in ebbs and flows over the years – at least since early elementary age. Literally have just ignored it and tried to move on 😳 Kinda relieving to know others experience this.”

Alicia explained that as a teen she contemplated suicide. “My intrusive thoughts made me fear for the safety of others and I felt the only solace was my passing. I cried tears of joy upon learning they happened to a lot of people.”

The responses to the tweet go on and on with people sharing their experiences with intrusive thoughts and some sharing ways they have learned to cope with them. What it all comes down to in the end is that these thoughts are much more common that people realize and it should absolutely be talked about more. No person deserves to walk around assuming they’re somehow broken for having a human experience.

This dog is obviously tired of his mom’s antics and grabs a knife to get her attention

There are some people in your life that play entirely too much. Every time you turn around they’re trying to play a prank on you or laughing about a prank they played on someone else. But for one woman, her attempt to prank her dog didn’t go as planned because Fido was simply tired of her antics. At least, his response to her latest prank would have you believe that the canine has had enough because as his owner pretends to choke and falls to the floor, the dog picks up a knife after seemingly checking on her.

It’s not clear from the video if the knife was simply conveniently placed due to someone using it recently or if this was a prank of a larger magnitude and someone handed the dog the knife. Either way, the dog was just not interested in playing whatever game his owner was attempting to play. After he grabs the knife with his mouth, the dog heads right for the woman laying on the floor. When that happens, she quickly sits up and has a miraculous recovery. At one point the knife touched the woman’s back and she jumped.

All was well, of course, or this would be a very different story. The woman in the video laughed it off and turned off the camera. I think it’s pretty safe to say that even the animals are no longer interested in whatever TikTok prank is trending. I wonder if he got a timeout or if she did? Hopefully, after the knife was safely put away, the dog was promptly given a lesson on knife safety and anger management. Watch the clip below.

Neil deGrasse Tyson’s impassioned speech on how not to raise your children

Three years ago, astrophysicist, author and science communicator Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson appeared on the Impact Theory podcast, hosted by Tom Bilyeu, where he shared some passionate advice about preserving children’s curiosity.

Dr. Tyson believes that for a child to truly make a difference and be a “mover and shaker” in this world, the most important thing is for them to remain as curious as possible. Maintaining childlike curiosity will inspire their ambitions far more than what they gain from the educational system.

The hard thing for parents and educators is maintaining that curiosity. For Dr. Tyson, it all starts at home and parents shouldn’t let preserving a clean home get in the way of letting their kids explore with abandon.

“Kids are sources of chaos and disorder. Get over that fact. Where does the disorder come from? It’s because they are experimenting with their environment. Everything is new to them, everything,” he said.

“Your job is less to instill curiosity than to make sure you don’t squash what is already there,” Dr. Tyson said.

However, this curiosity can be diminished by the educational system that teaches to tests instead of making children excited to learn.

“School should, as a minimum, preserve that curiosity for you,” he continued. “They’ll retain that curiosity through the turbulent middle school years into high school. And what is an adult scientist but a kid who never lost their curiosity?”
