Robin Williams blends celebrity impersonations and Shakespeare in unearthed 90’s clip

We all know the late, great Robin Williams was a comic genius. Many people also know that he was classically trained in theater. In a recently unearthed clip from 1991, Williams combines those two talents, leaving people splitting at the seams even decades later.

Williams was a guest on “The Tonight Show” starring Johnny Carson, when he and Carson began chatting about William Shakespeare, who Williams quickly quipped was a “man with a second grade education, [who] wrote some of the greatest poetry of all time, and sometimes I think, maybe not.”

Carson then asked Williams how he felt about other actors playing Hamlet (for context, Mel Gibson had recently starred in the role). Williams, being no stranger to the Bard’s work, then went into one of his delightfully creative frenzies, managing to effortlessly slide into the voices of Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jack Nicholson while throwing out verses like it was nothing.

Needless to say, the whole thing brought Carson into a fit of laughter.

The clip, which was posted to Twitter, left people wholeheartedly appreciating Williams all over again.

“The man could simply just start speaking & the talent would flow. Every single interview I’ve seen is just pure comedy. This man is sorely missed,” one person commented.

“One of a kind, there will never be anybody like him again. So sadly missed,” wrote another.

“Johnny was such a great host. [He] could just relate and say a word or two and let the genius shine,” wrote one person.

Williams had a gift for lighting people up. He might be gone, but his brilliance keeps on giving.

The Copyright Lawsuit Against Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ Has Officially Been Dropped

Mariah Carey is no longer being sued for her 1994 holiday hit, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” After Rolling Stone obtained new court documents, it appears plaintiff Andy Stone has dismissed his filing “in its entirety, without prejudice” on November 1.

The lawsuit originally was submitted by Stone in June. He claimed that in 1989, five years before Carey’s song, he wrote and recorded a song under the same title under the name Vince Vance And The Valiants. Stone was suing Carey and her co-writer, Walter Afanasieff, for using his track without permission. He also alleged that his version received “extensive airplay” during the 1993 holiday season.

According to the publication, Stone’s lawyers started reaching out to Carey’s team in April 2021, but were ignored. He was seeking $20 million in the lawsuit. There are also songs that were released long before Stone’s with the same exact title, which is what the majority of his suit rested on.

Yesterday, Carey shared a video on social media to welcome in the holiday season. She transforms into a full Santa suit. “IT’S TIIIIIIIIME!!!!!!!!” the caption reads. Like clockwork, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” re-entered the Top 40 on iTunes in the US and was streamed globally over a million times.

It truly is her time to shine.

What Beyoncé Song Did Syd Help Write?

The Beyhive is buzzing with hope for new visuals. Despite having released her seventh studio album, Renaissance more than three months ago, Beyoncé has not released any music videos for the album. Although she has released a teaser clip for the video for Renaissance cut, “I’m That Girl,” she has not shared much else in regard to videos. However, a gift she sent to R&B singer/songwriter Syd now has fans theorizing about upcoming videos. But this gift also has fans asking how Syd contributed to the Renaissance era.

What Beyoncé Song Did Syd Help Write?

The album’s eighth track, “Plastic Off The Sofa” features writing credits by Beyoncé herself, along with Sydney Bennett, better known as Syd, as well as Sabrina Claudio, Nick Green, and Patrick Paige II. The song was also produced by Beyoncé, Syd, and Leven Kali.

Yesterday (November 1), Beyoncé sent Syd a thank-you gift for her contributions and seemingly hinted that visuals were on the way.

“Thank you for contributing so much to the film,” said Bey. “I’m looking at the footage and you’re incredible. I’m forever grateful. B.”

Neither Syd nor Beyoncé have commented any further regarding the aforementioned film, however, others have hinted that the videos are on their way.

In a now-deleted tweet, drag performer Shea Couleé implied that she knew that Beyoncé is putting the final touches on the visuals.

I’m not gonna say how I know this, but the visuals are coming,” Couleé said. “So stop asking that lady for them. She’s working overtime, and she’s about to deliver.”

Dan Snyder Hired A Bank To Possibly Sell The Commanders And May Have Groups Interested In Buying Them

Dan Snyder’s time as the owner of the Washington Commanders may be coming to an end. According to a report in Forbes that was eventually confirmed by the team, Snyder and his wife, Tanya, have hired BofA Securities to potentially shepard a sale of the franchise that he has owned for two decades.

In the statement, the franchise noted that this does not mean a sale is imminent, but rather, that the team will “consider potential transactions.”

This came shortly after Mike Ozanian of Forbes reported that Snyder tabbed BofA to help with potentially selling some (or his full) stake in the team, and that there is already interest from groups in buying the squad based out of the nation’s capital.

According to a person familiar with the process, Snyder already has at least four calls from groups interested in buying the team. Snyder and his bankers are exploring all options and a transaction could be for the entire NFL team or a minority stake.

A Commanders rep told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network that the team is “exploring all options.” The news comes as Snyder has come under scrutiny for a number of reasons, including fostering a work environment where numerous women have claimed they were sexually harassed and hiding revenues from both fans and the NFL. Despite this, Snyder has allegedly claimed that the NFL won’t do anything to him due to the amount of dirt he has on owner owners and Roger Goodell.

Dreamville Festival Announces Its Return Dates For 2023

Dreamville Festival has quietly become one of the better artist-founded music festivals around after being rescheduled and postponed by both inclement weather and a pandemic. However, when it returned with an expanded lineup earlier this year — and secured a streaming partnership with Amazon, no less — it turned out that its organizers displayed a unique aesthetic sense and a gift for curation that led to one of the more interesting lineups of the year. While it naturally showcased the talent assembled by J. Cole onto his label, it also turned out to be pretty diverse, with cool legacy acts and top contemporary ones.

Fans of Dreamville Fest will likely be delighted by the news that Cole and co. are already plotting its return to North Carolina. Today, the Dreamville Fest social accounts announced the upcoming 2023 dates, April 1 and 2, and shared a highlight reel of this year’s festival, which featured a Gangsta Grillz presentation from DJ Drama (along with mixtape mainstays Jeezy, Lil Wayne, and T.I.), Ja Rule and Ashanti, the beginning of Larry June’s 2022 breakout, and Lil Baby. Likewise, the Dreamville roster, including Ari Lennox, Earthgang, JID, Lute, and J. Cole himself, all put on a show, as well.

While this year’s lineup and ticket info hasn’t been released yet, you can sign up for the mailing list at DreamvilleFest.com. Let’s all hope for blue skies and no more viruses.
