How Is The ‘Bel Air’ Reboot Different From ‘Fresh Prince’?

When Peacock announced a reboot of the beloved ’90s sitcom, many were expecting a hilarious take on the Will Smith comedy, but for an updated 21st century audience. In a way, they were right, but the show is not a comedy.

Bel-Air will begin streaming on Peacock on Sunday, February 13th, and it will drastically differ from the original feel-good comedy. First of all, the show will be an hour-long drama, a very different take from the original half-hour sitcom.

Starring newcomer Jabari Banks, who coincidentally shares a last name with the show’s Banks family, the show will have the same premise: Will Smith, a young man from West Philly (also where the actor Bans is from) is sent to live with his aunt and uncle in Bel-Air, California. The swanky neighborhood full of rich families is far from what Smith is used to.

Instead of fun-loving pranks and basketball games, the show will tackle more serious issues that relate to a modern day family. In the official synopsis, the show is described as a reimagined vision:

Bel-Air is described as an hourlong dramatic retelling of the beloved ’90s sitcom that leans into the original premise of Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. With a reimagined vision, Bel-Air will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases of what it means to be a Black man in America today, while still delivering the swagger and fun nods to the original show.

Will Smith is the producer for the show, which will premiere with its first three episodes on Super Bowl Sunday. If you want to get caught up on the lore, the original Fresh Prince From Bel-Air is streaming on HBO Max.

How Does ‘The Power Of The Dog’ End?

Spoilers for The Power of the Dog will be found below.

Much has been made out of Netflix’s The Power of the Dog, rightfully so, given that it’s an incredible movie, even if it isn’t the easiest watch at times. The Jane Campion-helmed movie should do well at the Oscars, and the film continues to generate discussion about toxic masculinity, viewed through lenses past and present, but how about that ending?

Let’s give the lowdown on what happened. To be perfectly blunt here, the film heavily implies that Peter killed Phil. This was the case despite their (also implied) budding relationship, and Phil had seemingly had a change of heart toward the young man, which may have had something to do with Phil opening up about his past with suggestions about his own sexuality.

Then Phil fell ill and surprisingly died, and this seemed to happen fast, and the anthrax poisoning detail surprised Phil’s brother, George, given the degree of care that Phil generally took during his duties on the ranch. Yet Peter, motivated to protect his own mother, Rose, from Phil’s sinister ways, had handed over contaminated rawhide to Phil, whose open wound likely facilitated infection from the anthrax bacterium.

Peter’s decision, of course, presents larger questions about identity and sexuality and whether this was a deserved ending for the film’s leading character. And inside of all of that, there’s a necessary conversation happening, one that will likely continue as the Oscars approach for a March 27 broadcast. (Also, hopefully, Rose lived a peaceful life!)

The Power of the Dog is currently streaming on Netflix.

Charli XCX And Rina Sawayama Are Electric Cult Leaders In The ‘Beg For You’ Video

Charli XCX’s new album Crash is due out on March 18th and the Charli hive has been buzzing. Unfortunately, some of the pop star’s fans have been acting none too nice on social media in regards to the rollout, causing Charli to reconsider her presence on social media. She has nothing to worry about from us though, because everything she’s put out in the Crash orbit thus far has been straight fire. Especially, the UK dance floor romp of “Beg For You” featuring Rina Sawayama, which now has a brand spankin’ new video out.

In the clip, Charli and Rina are cult-ish figures (sound familiar?) in a power field. They lead a rebellion of followers through a ritual of sorts, replete with buzzing dance moves from the pair and the ensemble behind them. Charli previously teased the training and work that went into the dance portion of the vid and it totally hits. It’s a totally electric clip for the absolute banger of a track and it keeps building excitement for the release of Crash.

Watch the video for “Beg For You” above.

Crash is out on 03/18 via Asylum Records UK/Warner Records UK. Pre-order it here.

Charli XCX is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Kylie Jenner Reveals The Name Of Her And Travis Scott’s New Baby

After months of rumors, Kylie Jenner announced this past weekend that she had given birth to her and Travis Scott’s second child together. Many believe the child is a boy since Jenner shared a blue heart emoji alongside what is presumably the child’s birthdate, “2/2/22.” Now, it seems Jenner has finally revealed the baby’s name.

On her Instagram Story today, Jenner shared a plain image of white text on a dark gray background that reads, “Wolf Webster,” followed by a white heart emoji. Scott’s legal name is Jacques Berman Webster II, so it would seem Wolf Webster is in fact the baby’s full name.

Adele Confirms She’s Planning To Have Another Baby Next Year And Dodges Engagement Questions

Adele made headlines today after she showed up at a nightclub and taking a brief moment to work a stripper pole. That took place after she filmed an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, which has now aired and has plenty of noteworthy Adele takeaways of its own.

During the conversation, Norton danced around that fact that he noticed a flashy ring on Adele’s hand and expressed curiosity about whether or not she’s engaged. “As if I would ever tell anyone if I was or wasn’t,” Adele replied. Norton responded, “I have to say, as a casual observer, it looks like you are.” Adele had a big laugh at that and replied simply, “Alright.” Norton noted he was “taking that a yes,” which got another laugh from Adele.

Elsewhere in the show, Norton asked Adele about when she thinks her postponed Las Vegas shows will actually happen, and Adele confidently answered, “They’re absolutely happening this year. Oh, 100 percent! […] They are absolutely happening this year, oh my god. I want a baby next year [laughs].” That reveal left Norton stunned and speechless as Adele continued, “I have plans next year! I have plans! Imagine if I have to cancel shows because I’m having a baby! No, I’ve got plans next year, they better f*cking happen this year.”

She also spoke about why she stays mostly out of the spotlight between albums, noting that she “definitely will vanish again” after she’s done promoting 30. She continued, “I’m trying to make a really conscious effort to stop being so anal with my privacy. […] I’m trying to not always be two completely different versions of myself because it’s exhausting. […] So yes, I will be disappearing in terms of my music, but you might see a glimpse of me every now and then. I won’t be in complete hiding. […] But yeah, you know, like I said, I would like to maybe have more children, so it’d be up to them. I only just now feel like I’ve caught up on my sleep from nine years ago,” referring to when she gave birth to Angelo, her first child.

‘Daredevil,’ ‘Jessica Jones,’ And Marvel’s Entire ‘Defenders’ Lineup Are Disappearing From Netflix… Soon

Things just got very interesting on the Marvel Netflix characters front. Less than two months after both Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye, respectively, Netflix has confirmed that its entire slate of Marvel series are officially leaving the streaming platform at the end of February. That includes Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and the limited Defenders series. The shows have remained in limbo since 2018 when Netflix canceled them, and now, they’re officially leaving the platform for good.

Via IndieWire:

Netflix confirmed to IndieWire that the series will leave the platform at midnight local time February 28. The Defenders titles were licensed originals, and as the license for Netflix has ended, the rights are returning to Disney. Representatives at Disney had no comment.

As IndieWire notes, Entertainment Weekly was the first to report the news, but neither publication has been able to get a comment from Disney on what will happen to the Netflix shows. There is, of course, speculation that they will be hosted on either Disney+ or Hulu, with the latter being the most likely scenario given the series were produced by ABC Studios and contain more mature, less family-friendly content matter, particularly in Jessica Jones and The Punisher.

There’s now the big question of whether these series might actually be revived. Charlie Cox recently told The Hollywood Reporter that there are plans for Daredevil’s future after his No Way Home cameo, but naturally, he’s sworn to secrecy by Marvel, who runs a tighter ship than the freaking Pentagon. Just give us a hint, guys. We’ll be cool. We promise.

Craft Beer Experts Shout Out The Beers They’re Drinking In February

February is an interesting month for beer drinkers. For some of the country, winter, frigid temperatures, and snow are still in full force with no end in sight. Other parts of the country are already headed towards spring. This means the beer choices vary depending on both personal tastes and geography. Do you pour another rich, robust stout or do you start drinking light and refreshing pilsners or IPAs?

“I’m a sucker for an Irish red ale this time of year,” says Jeremy Ragonese, president of Uinta Brewing in Salt Lake City, Utah. “The arrival of this beer is a harbinger of spring. The rich, toasty malt sweetness is both satisfying and remarkably drinkable.”

Since we know that beer styles vary this time of year (just like the weather), it can be difficult to figure out what to drink on any given day. To help you out, we asked a handful of craft beer experts, brewers, and brewing professionals to tell us what they’re drinking in February. Keep scrolling to see their picks!

Fair State Tmavé Pivo

Fair State Tmavé Pivo
Fair State

Garth E. Beyer, certified Cicerone® and owner and founder of Garth’s Brew Bar in Madison, Wisconsin

ABV: 4.4%

Average Price: Limited Availability

Why This Beer?

I’m drinking the Bohemian cousin to Germany’s schwarzbier, a dark Czech lager by the name of Tmavé Pivo brewed by Fair State Brewing Cooperative. It’s all of the sweetness of darker malts with extremely limited roast characters. It’s almost toffee-like. As opposed to the heavier February beers, this is an unexpectedly drinkable and versatile beer fit for the cooler season.

Enegren Dunkel

Enegren Dunkel
Enegren

Ryan Pachmayer, head brewer at Yak & Yeti Brewpub and Restaurant in Arvada, Colorado

ABV: 5.5%

Average Price: $5 for a 16-ounce can

Why This Beer?

Enegren Dunkel is my pick for February. It’s malty, toasty, and biscuity with a touch of chocolate and dark caramel. It’s drinkable enough for our 60-degree winter days, but it can hold its own when the temp drops below freezing.

Boulevard The Calling

Boulevard The Calling
Boulevard

Jesse Sommers, vice president at Berthoud Brewing Company in Berthoud, Colorado

ABV: 8.5%

Average Price: $12 for a four-pack

Why This Beer?

The beer I’m most likely to drink in February is The Calling by Boulevard. It’s one of my absolute favorites with lots of big tropical fruit notes and just very well made. This is an 8.5 percent IPA that holds its own on a cold, winter night.

Pilsner Urquell

Pilsner Urquell
Pilsner Urquell

Brian Jaszewski, director of product management at Sprecher Brewing Co. in Glendale, Wisconsin

ABV: 4.4%

Average Price: $10 for a six-pack

Why This Beer?

I’m a huge fan of high-quality traditional style lagers, many of which we make here at Sprecher. The crispness and subtle malt tones in Pilsner Urquell are a perfect balance and insanely drinkable. I generally have a couple of four packs around for those times I just want a beer with no hard work involved.

Duchesse Cherry Sour Red Ale

Duchesse Cherry Sour Red Ale
Duchesse

Jamie Boalbey, director of beverage and operations at Pitfire Pizza in Los Angeles

ABV: 6.8%

Average Price: $21 for a four-pack

Why This Beer?

Duchesse Cherry Sour Red Ale is a very sexy beer that pairs really well with food. February in California can still be a bit chilly, but spring is definitely around the corner. The unique toffee and toasted brioche characteristics are welcomed and deeply appreciated. I keep coming back to this beer because it’s like eating a fresh sour cherry right off the tree. It makes me think of love and cheese or chocolate (this beer pairs really well with both) and the transition from winter to spring.

Sierra Nevada Barrel-Aged Narwhal

Sierra Nevada Barrel-Aged Narwhal
Sierra Nevada

John Swanson, brewing supervisor at New Belgium Brewing in Asheville, North Carolina

ABV: 11.9%

Average Price: $18 for a four-pack of 16-ounce cans

Why This Beer?

February in Asheville is cold with a mix of rain, snow, and sun. I am a seasonal beer drinker so it could be almost anything. This February I am enjoying Sierra Nevada Barrel Aged Narwhal. Barrel-aged Narwhal is great with its notes of vanilla, oak, and chocolate.

Jolly Pumpkin Bam Biere

Jolly Pumpkin Bam Biere
Jolly Pumpkin

Brian Bergman, brewing director at Sycamore Brewing in Charlotte, North Carolina

ABV: 4.5%

Average Price: $11 for a 750ml bottle

Why This Beer?

For me, February beers sort of straddle the line between heartier, richer beers and crisper, lighter options that evoke thoughts of spring and warmer weather. I fall in the latter camp and I’ve always enjoyed brewing and drinking saisons. So one great example to me for a February beer is Bam Biere by Jolly Pumpkin. It’s quite light in body and ABV, but it packs a lot of nuanced flavors and a slight tartness. Crispy malt and floral/citrusy hop flavors all play with the subtle yeast esters very well, giving the drinker a complex yet drinkable package good for any time of the year.

Guinness Draught

Guinness Draught
Guinness

Adam Beauchamp, COO and co-founder at Creature Comforts Brewing Co. in Athens, Georgia

ABV: 4.2%

Average Price: $8 for a four-pack of 15-ounce cans

Why This Beer?

I typically keep Guinness Draught cans in the fridge at my house. We brewed a collaboration beer with them several years back in Dublin, and I became very fond of that classic beer. It is fantastic for winter, but also any time. I love the refined roast character and gentle yeasty esters. What a masterpiece.

Kern River Citra Double

Kern River Citra Double
Kern River

Teddy Gowan, director of brewery operations at Societe Brewing Company in San Diego

ABV: 8%

Average Price: $19 for a four-pack

Why This Beer?

Citra Double IPA from Kern River is my pick. February is a great time for Double IPA’s, it’s still a little chilly and the higher ABV is good in the cold. It’s a great example of the style and I just like everything Kern River Brewing does.

Big Thief’s ‘Red Moon’ Video Shows The Live Take That Ended Up On Their Incredible New Album

Big Thief’s fifth album, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You, came out today and it’s fantastic. The 20-song release shows a diverse range of songs from the Brooklyn band, ranging from indie to folk to bluegrass to the psychedelic. Uproxx msuic critic Steve Hyden says, “So much of the pleasure of listening to Dragon comes from appreciating the subtle and delicate ways in which this band works and plays together…” And this is exactly what we get an intimate glimpse of on the video for “Red Moon.”

Recorded in Tucson, Arizona, at the home studio of Dr. Dog’s Scott McMicken, the video gently glides through all four members of Big Thief, along with Mat Davidson on a scintillating fiddle and backing vocals. Davidson’s presence is notable as the band has seldom-if-ever brought in another contributor for their albums. What we see is actually the live take that ended up on the album and it’s the subtle details of the clip that make it especially charming. The way drummer James Krivchenia bangs on the snare with a rag over it, how Buck Meek casually plays lead guitar with one leg crossed over the other, how McMicken squeezes in between a doorway in the background tapping to the beat on his lap, and how singer Adrianne Lenker pushes her pursed lips right up against the mic for a handsome whistle on the outro.

A ‘Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare’ Sequel Has Been Confirmed Alongside A Huge ‘Warzone’ Update

Call of Duty may be changing over to new ownership, but that hasn’t changed the current plans for any of the franchise’s upcoming games. There were reports that Warzone 2 and sequel to Modern Warfare were both planned for the near future, and on Friday, Activision Blizzard confirmed this while giving details on the exact timeline for these future games.

In a blog post, details were given about what we can expect to see from Call of Duty in the future. A sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare is in the plans for 2022. After that, work is going to shift over to a gigantic update for Warzone. What it did not confirm is if this new game will simply be an update or expansion to current Warzone, or a brand new game. Both games will be handled by Activision studio, Infinity Ward.

Lastly, we also wanted to give a peek into what is on the horizon in 2022 for Call of Duty. The team is excited to confirm some additional news below.

Stay frosty, friends.

– This year’s Call of Duty is a sequel to Modern Warfare® 2019.

– The new game and a new Warzone experience are designed together from the ground-up.

– Expect a massive evolution of Battle Royale with all-new playspace and a new sandbox mode.

– A new engine powers both the new Call of Duty game release and Warzone.

– Development on both the new Call of Duty and the Warzone experience is being led by Infinity Ward.

The big changes here seem to be the plans for a new major engine. The current engine that Call of Duty runs on is what the 2019 Modern Warfare debuted on, so it only makes sense that a sequel would also mean a new engine for any future games. That new engine is not only a refresh for the look and feel of the franchise, but it may be an opportunity to finally get ahead of the hacking that has been a problem in the franchise for years.

The Story Of The Alleged Billion-Dollar Bitcoin Bandit Couple Is Already Headed To Netflix

Between The Tinder Swindler and Inventing Anna, it looks like the theme of 2022 is being a giant scammer, and then watching the events unfold on Netflix.

The team behind another infamous scam doc, Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, about the notorious Fyre Festival, is planning a series about an alleged Bitcoin scandal. Netflix has ordered a docuseries about Ilya “Dutch” Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan, a couple who have been arrested for attempting to launder billions worth of Bitcoin.

Lichtenstein and his wife Morgan, a Forbes contributor and rapper (two things that seem to not go well together), were arrested earlier this week in New York and face charges after being accused of laundering $4.5B in Bitcoin in 2016. According to Deadline, their conspiracy is the biggest criminal financial crime case in history.

The value of that Bitcoin skyrocketed to nearly $5 Billion, when the couple tried to liquidate their funds by making fake accounts and identities in effort to buy NFT’s and physical gold. Their plan, according to the New York Post, was the flee the country. Instead, Morgan became a rapper.

The Netflix series is set to be directed by Fyre director Chris Smith, who also produced the quarantine hit Tiger King. Smith will work alongside Nick Bilton, the Vanity Fair writer who is behind HBO’s The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley.
