Summer Walker Felt ‘Played’ By The ‘Grammys Snub’: ‘The Numbers Was There, The Fans Was There’

The 2023 Grammys are in the books. However, Summer Walker still has a bone to pick with the annual event’s voting board. The “Finding Peace” singer continues to air her grievances with the organization after not receiving any nominations for her past two albums.

During her appearance on Caresha Please, the songwriter told host Yung Miami that she felt played by the ‘snub.’ “Honestly, both albums, Over It and Still Over It, really did the numbers. I don’t know. I feel like I got played. The numbers was there. The fans was there. When I pop out for a show, sold out every time,” said Walker.

Adding, “I don’t f*cking know why they played me. I do know why, but I ain’t gonna go into it. But it’s ok. The love is there, and the money is there. So it’s good.”

This isn’t the first time the singer addressed the matter. Back in November, following the nomination ceremony, she took to Twitter, writing, “And as for the Grammys for a 2nd time, the math is literally not mathing. I was gone post some numbers, but it’s ok. At least the streets f*ck with me. Y’all always pack out every show and support every time I drop. So, thanks for the love I do receive.”

Beyoncé Paid Tribute To Tina Turner By Performing ‘River Deep, Mountain High’ During Her London ‘Renaissance’ Tour Stop

So far, the Renaissance World Tour has been filled with touching moments. But Beyoncé’s latest onstage moment might move you to tears. During the “America Has A Problem” singer’s stop in London, she took a moment during her jam-packed set to pay tribute to the late Tina Turner.

Performing the late entertainer’s 1966 song “River Deep – Mountain High,” Beyoncé showed how much her ‘beloved queen’ influenced her career.

When the news of Turner’s passing was announced, Beyoncé shared a few words on stage in Paris in her memory. “If you’re a fan of mine, you’re a fan of Tina Turner. I wouldn’t be on this stage without Tina Turner. I want you guys to scream so she can feel your love. I feel so blessed that I was alive to witness her brilliance,” said the singer.

Her tribute didn’t stop there. Writing on her official website, Beyoncé penned a touching note. “My beloved queen. I love you endlessly. I’m so grateful for your inspiration and all the ways you have paved the way. You are strength and resilience. You are the epitome of power and passion. We are all so fortunate to have witnessed your kindness and beautiful spirit that will forever remain. Thank you for all you have done,” read the message.

Brian Cox Penned A Moving Ode To His ‘Succession’ Colleagues: ‘Certainly The Greatest Work Experience Ever’

Brian Cox can be pretty terrifying onscreen. Hell, he was the silver screen’s first Hannibal Lecter. Off-screen he can be devastatingly frank. He’s also a softie. He can drag the mega-committed acting approach of his Succession son Jeremy Strong one second then sing his praises the next. But the day after the show aired its final-ever episode, Cox was nothing but mushy.

“We have now come to the end. And what has been, in my career, certainly the greatest work experience ever,” the beloved actor wrote in an Instagram Stories post. “The harmony between crew and cast was truly amazing. It was on it’s [sic] way to become a great series but the Love and commitment from crew to cast and writers, made it memorable. I would like to thank all of us in the making and creating of this show from the very bottom of my heart.”

Succession may have ended on an up-note for its cast and crew, but not so for its characters. Pretty much everyone — save some of the older guard, like Frank and Karl and Gerri — was left utterly miserable, with poor Kendall reduced to staring into New York Harbor, perhaps wrestling with a future that may lead him to rebrand as a Silicon Valley bro. But at least the three siblings got to share a laugh over a disgusting smoothie before stuff went down.

The Philadelphia 76ers Have Hired Nick Nurse As Their New Head Coach

The Philadelphia 76ers were one of three contenders that fired their coach after an early playoff exit, ending Doc Rivers’ tenure after three seasons and no trips to the Eastern Conference Finals.

That is the expectation for Philly’s next head coach, who will have to figure out how to maximize the team built around 2023 NBA MVP Joel Embiid and, maybe, James Harden, depending on whether he leaves for a reunion with Houston this summer. It’s an interesting job in that there’s obvious upside given the talent on the roster, but expectations to reach a place this team has not proven it can get to and some real questions about how the roster will take shape for next year.

The man taking on that challenge will be a longtime divisional rival, former Toronto Raptors head coach (and before that, assistant) Nick Nurse, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Nurse was a candidate for most of the open positions on the market this summer, reportedly bowing out of the Milwaukee search before they hired his lead assistant, Adrian Griffin. Now he goes to Philadelphia, where his new star knows, at the very least, he’ll publicly do what it takes to try and get him foul calls.

There are a ton of interesting subplots to follow in Philly, including how Embiid takes to his new coach, but the Sixers can now at least get into the real work of the offseason knowing who will be guiding the team, making the move from Doc to Nurse.

Here Is Your ‘Love Island UK’ Series 10 Cast: Meet Your New Islanders

In exactly one week, Love Island UK will return for series 10, its latest season for the 2023 summer year. It comes just a few months after the show concluded series 9 by crowning Kai and Sanam the winner with Ron & Lana, Shaq & Tanya, and Tom & Samie coming in second, third, and fourth, respectively.

Ahead of the series 10 debut, ITV and Love Island UK revealed the official cast members for series 10. The following members will be the original islanders for the new series as bombshells will be revealed as the series goes on. Information and quotes about each islander were provided by an ITV press release for series 10.

Let’s meet your series 10 islanders!

Ruchee Gurung

Ruchee 'Love Island UK' Series 10
ITV

AGE: 24 | FROM: Sutton | OCCUPATION: Beautician

Why Love Island and why now?

I’m single and looking for love, and it’s the perfect opportunity for me to find someone. I’m a relationship kind of girl, but so far it’s not worked out for me. So I’m looking forward to hopefully finding the right person in the Villa.

Why would you say you’re single?

I can be quite picky and as I’ve got older, if I see one red flag I just don’t have the time to deal with it, so I can also be quite ‘no nonsense.’

What gives you the ‘ick’?

Guys with no ambition. I also get the ick if I see a guy wearing white jeans and red trainers. Another one is super skinny jeans when they look like leggings. Fashion is such an important thing for me. If I go on a date and the guy isn’t wearing something I like, I’m going home.

Ella Thomas

Ella 'Love Island UK' Series 10
ITV

AGE: 23 | FROM: Glasgow | OCCUPATION: Model

Why Love Island and why now?

I’m excited to have a fun summer, it’s going to be good vibes all summer.

Why would you say you’re single?

There is something going on with men these days, they don’t know a real one when they’ve got one. I’d say it’s no fault of my own but by choice because I’d never settle for less, you have to keep your standards high.

What gives you the ‘ick’?

Guys that sit on Instagram and like every girl’s pictures is an ick for me, if I can see he’s been liking the girls posts on my explore page, it’s a no. I also get the ick if a guy can’t dress and doesn’t smell good.

Catherine Agabaje

Catherine 'Love Island UK' Series 10
ITV

AGE: 22 | FROM: Dublin | OCCUPATION: Commerical Real Estate Agent

Why Love Island and why now?

I feel like this is the perfect opportunity to narrow down what I’m actually looking for and reach my goal to find love. I want to get my feelings out there and put myself out there. I want to love, and to be loved – and with no distractions as well.

Why would you say you’re single?

I don’t know. Maybe it’s lust and not going deeper and staying on the surface level.

What gives you the ‘ick’?

It might be a weird ick, but I don’t really like long hair especially when it gets sweaty…!

Jess Harding

Jess 'Love Island UK' Series 10
ITV

AGE: 22 | FROM: London | OCCUPATION: Aesthetics Practitioner

Why Love Island and why now?

I’ve been single for two years now and my love life just isn’t really working. I’m a believer in fate.

Why would you say you’re single?

Because every boy is giving me the ick at the moment. I feel like it’s fate because I’m saving myself for Mr Right in the Villa!

What gives you the ‘ick’?

When a guy stunts for money, that’s an ick. Showing off all their designer clothes because most of the time they’re probably fake anyway! Another one is when a boy runs for the train and the train goes without him. Lunch Boxes also – just go to Tesco and get a meal deal!

Molly Marsh

Molly 'Love Island UK' Series 10
ITV

AGE: 21 | FROM: Doncaster| OCCUPATION: Musical Theatre Performer & Social Media Creator

Why Love Island and why now?

I think it’s ideal timing and the perfect way to find someone. I don’t go out and party and I don’t use dating apps, I’m actually quite old-fashioned, so there’s no better way to meet someone by going into a Villa in the sun with the potential ‘one’ in there.

Why would you say you’re single?

I think I go with my gut feeling and my gut is always right – that’s why I’m single at the moment.

What gives you the ‘ick’?

Guys shouting at the television when they’re watching sports or the news. You’re not going to get anywhere with me if you’re shouting at the television.

André Furtado

André 'Love Island UK' Series 10
ITV

AGE: 21 | FROM: Dudley | OCCUPATION: Business Owner

Why Love Island and why now?

I’ve finished Uni now, I’m done with situationships and I have a better mindset towards relationships. There are so many things aligning for me, a good woman to add to that will be the icing on the cake.

Why would you say you’re single?

Commitment issues.

What gives you the ‘ick’?

When I’m out eating with a fine woman and she’s chomping on her food. Another ick is being unnecessarily disrespectful, especially to parents, family members, or waiters.

Mitchel Taylor

Mitchel 'Love Island UK' Series 10
ITV

AGE: 26 | FROM: Sheffield | OCCUPATION: Gas Engineer

Why Love Island and why now?

I feel like I’m known in Sheffield as ‘someone’s ex’, so it’s nice to have a fresh start and to switch off from distractions and to focus on finding the perfect girl for me.

Why would you say you’re single?

I’m just really picky. I’ve got to find the girl that I want to marry and have kids with. I’m nearly 27, I don’t want to play the field anymore, I want to find
the one.

What gives you the ‘ick’?

Food in your teeth and counting coins in your hand – when a girl stands at the bar counting out the coins to pay for a drink. It’s not for me!

Tyrique Hyde

Tyrique 'Love Island UK' Series 10
ITV

AGE: 24 | FROM: Essex | OCCUPATION: Semi-Professional Footballer

Why Love Island and why now?

I’ve never had a girlfriend and I haven’t been on holiday for ages so it’s perfect.

Why would you say you’re single?

In the past I’ve not been ready to commit to a relationship but now I’m open to settling down with the right girl.

What gives you the ‘ick’?

When girls walk around barefoot when they are coming out of a club. Another one is girls that are too into star signs.

George Fensom

George 'Love Island UK' Series 10
ITV

AGE: 24 | FROM: Bedford | OCCUPATION: Business Development Executive

Why Love Island and why now?

Love Island is something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve found lust before, but now it’s time for me to find love.

Why would you say you’re single?

Because of the wrong decisions that I’ve made in the past. I’ve not put girls first in relationships which I should’ve done.

What gives you the ‘ick’?

When girls clap their hands when they speak or when people put too many exclamation marks in texts, three is enough.

Mehdi Edno

Mehdi 'Love Island UK' Series 10
ITV

AGE: 26 | FROM: Bordeaux/London | OCCUPATION: Communications Manager

Why Love Island and why now?

I’ve been single now for over two years. I’ve watched the show before, and my friends always say I should go on it – they say I’m made for it! So let’s see if they’re right or not

Why would you say you’re single?

I’m single at the moment because I’ve been too busy for love.

What gives you the ‘ick’?

Clingy girls, and girls that act and talk in a childish way. I like a sophisticated girl who looks after herself.

‘Love Island’ series 10 premieres on the ITV2 channel on June 5th at 9pm GMT/4pm EST/1pm PST.

Phoebe Bridgers Resurfaced An Old Fan-Favorite Song She Wrote As A Teenager For A Good Cause

For 2016’s Lost Ark Studio Compilation – Vol. 08, Phoebe Bridgers contributed “Waiting Room,” a vulnerable track she wrote as a teenager. It’s become a bit of a fan favorite, so it was unfortunate when the project, and therefore “Waiting Room,” were removed from Spotify earlier this year (as Consequence notes). Now, though, the track is back in the name of charity.

Bridgers shared the song on her Bandcamp page, and proceeds from name-your-price sales will benefit the charity Music Will. The Bandcamp description says of the nonprofit, “Music Will is the largest nonprofit music program in the United States providing teacher training, musical instruments, and music education resources to schools across the country impacting over 1.2 million students in the last 20 years.”

In 2020, Bridgers told NPR of the song, “I think, actually, I’m afraid of accidentally conveying my own privilege and brattiness. I’m afraid of putting my genuine soul into a song and then having someone be like, ‘What’s her problem? Like, are you kidding me?’ And I hear that in, like, some of my earlier music. […] I have, like, a really old song called ‘Waiting Room,’ where — yeah, I wrote it when I was, like, 16. And people find it every once in a while and tag me in it or whatever. And I think I’m just — one, it’s super sincere, and I meant everything. But it’s so emotionally raw, and I’m so pining for someone.”

The Fever Showed Why There’s Optimism In Indiana After Snapping Their Losing Streak In Atlanta

In one of the best games of the young WNBA season, the Indiana Fever walked away from Atlanta with a 90-87 win over the Dream. It was their first win in the Christie Sides era — and first win overall since June 19th, 2022 — snapping a record-tying 20-game losing streak.

It was a performance that proved things are different in Indiana. This isn’t last year’s team even if much of the roster is similar; a new staff, the No. 1 overall pick in Aliyah Boston, and internal development from recent draft selections brings the Fever a different feel.

“We’re trying to change the culture, and that takes steps… getting our first win was one of them and everyone is excited for each other,” said Boston postgame.

Walking through the visiting team tunnel to the media room, that excitement was palpable; vociferous cheering could be heard from the locker room on the other side of a concrete wall. Sides praised the whole team, including Kelsey Mitchell for her clutch free throws, and Erica Wheeler in her homecoming to Atlanta, where she played and started last season. Perhaps the primary takeaway of the game was how essential Boston and NaLyssa Smith were, what they could unlock for one another, and how they propelled the team in a tight game.

“I’m just so proud of our team… really proud of NaLyssa Smith, Aliyah Boston keep fightin’ in there, she’s not getting a call, but that is OK because she is gonna keep coming back,” said a freshly drenched Sides after the game.

Smith had one of the finest games of her pro career, finishing with 23 points and 13 boards, including three makes from beyond the arc. Boston finished 13 points and 7 rebounds, while largely stifling Cheyenne Parker in the second half after her dominant first. With the first and second overall picks of the 2023 and 2022 drafts, respectively, the Fever have one of the most enticing frontcourt duos in basketball, and this game showcased reason for optimism this season and moving forward.

With vastly different skillsets and unique abilities that set them apart, the size of Boston, 6’5, and Smith, 6’4, is incredibly difficult to handle when both are capable of operating from multiple areas of the halfcourt. Smith’s versatility was embodied by a staple play from the Fever in this game; empty corner ball screens between her and star guard Kelsey Mitchell.

The very first play of the game, the Fever open up with Smith screening and popping for Mitchell. Atlanta likes to ice ball screens, forcing the ball-handler to the sideline and away from the middle of the court. Smith popping and willingly taking that shot without hesitation is pivotal to punishing a team that wants to play this coverage. Her aggression was essential as she started to draw harder closeouts from the Dream, attacking the paint with coordination and footwork.

Smith’s growth as a distance shooter is particularly notable. Through 35 W games, Smith is shooting 38.7 from beyond the arc on three attempts per game (106 attempts total) after taking 65 total threes in her four year career at Baylor. No shot was bigger for the Fever and more backbreaking for the Dream than Smith’s hoist as the clock wound down in the mid-fourth off of a broken play.

“God, nothing but God,” said Smith laughing. What else is there to do with 2 seconds left on the clock?

“NaLyssa… the word for her is aggressive,” Sides said. “I gave it to her day one… she made some big shots when she was tired, but also we were able to post her.”

The Fever continued to attack with those empty sets, but with intentionality, cross-screening with a guard to get Smith into the low post on a cleared side (less immediate help is present that way) and the opportunity to use her handle and footwork to attack the rim, scoring twice with baseline drives off a spin.

Boston thrived in the post as well. She’s acclimated exceptionally fast on both ends, drawing double and at time triple teams in the post much like she did at South Carolina. Watching her battle against one of the best post players in the league in Parker was a great test. She excelled with quick duck-ins and seals, moved the ball well when drawing two, and was a decisive force in the paint.

While she isn’t yet the pop threat that Smith is, she brings a different sort of threat as a roller and screener. Her playmaking and ability to continue plays through quick decisions and ball movement was, again, essential in attacking Atlanta’s coverage.

Note the quick screen early for Kelsey Mitchell, the quick redirect to trigger the offense, and the subtle screen on Rhyne Howard to give Victoria Vivians some slight breathing room. It’s in that minutiae that Boston dominates as a player. Vivians pitches back to the slow rolling Boston for an immediate jumper, similar to a shot she’d hit multiple times in the game to attack the pockets afforded by the Dream.

The Fever are still figuring one another out, they have a long season ahead and are at their roots a very young group, but the win over the Dream was a breath of fresh air and felt like a proverbial spark.

“We knew it was gonna happen, but today was the most important time it could happen,” said Smith. “When we play our best basketball, we can get results like this, and that’s wins. If we can keep clicking like this together, we’re gonna be amazing.”

Johnny Depp Has A ‘Painful’ Ankle Injury, Which Means No More Hollywood Vampires Concerts For A Little Bit

When he’s not popping up in a Savage X Fenty show or prompting uncomfortable moments at Cannes, Johnny Depp makes music and performs with Alice Cooper, Joe Perry, and Tommy Henriksen, as Hollywood Vampires. The group has some tour dates for this summer, but due to a “painful” ankle injury Depp has sustained, some of those have been postponed.

In an Instagram Story shared today (May 29), Depp wrote, “My Dear Friends, I am sorry to say that I have fractured my ankle, which is a drag!!! It began as a hairline break but somewhere between Cannes and the Royal Albert Hall, it got worse rather than better. Several medical professionals have strongly suggested I avoid any and all activity for the moment and so am sadly unable to travel at this time. To that end, the guys and I are very sorry to miss you in New Hampshire, Boston and New York but fear not, I promise we will bring an amazing show to all of you in Europe and bring our absolute best to the East Coast later this summer and make it up to those who have paid for those shows!!! Again, sincerest apologies. All my love and respect… J.D. x.”

The shows have been rescheduled to new dates at the end of July.

The band also shared a post about the situation, writing on Instagram, “We are sad to share that the Hollywood Vampires will be rescheduling our three US tour dates this coming week. Johnny has sustained a painful injury to his ankle following his recent appearances and has been advised by his doctor not to travel. He is devastated by this turn of events, but looks forward to resting up so all four Vampires can bring their absolute best to the tour in Europe.”

Trump Compared Himself To Veterans In A Bonkers All-Caps Memorial Day Post

Donald Trump has a habit celebrating holidays in the weirdest ways. Last year he rang in Easter with a post about “Radical Left Maniacs.” Later that year he wished “Radical Left Maniacs” a Merry Christmas. And on Memorial Day he unleashed an all-caps rant comparing his own sacrifices to those of soldiers.

“HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL,” Trump’s Truth Social post began before quickly going off the deep end:

“BUT ESPECIALLY TO THOSE WHO GAVE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE FOR THE COUNTRY THEY LOVE, AND TO THOSE IN LINE OF A VERY DIFFERENT, BUT EQUALLY DANGEROUS FIRE, STOPPING THE THREATS OF THE TERRORISTS, MISFITS AND LUNATIC THUGS WHO ARE WORKING FEVERISHLY FROM WITHIN TO OVERTURN AND DESTROY OUR ONCE GREAT COUNTRY, WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN IN GREATER PERIL THAN IT IS RIGHT NOW. WE MUST STOP THE COMMUNISTS, MARXISTS AND FASCIST “PIGS” AT EVERY TURN AND, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Yep, by battling his perceived enemies in America, Trump was, by his own estimation, as great as the soldiers who fought to protect the nation — which he never did because he repeatedly got out of serving in Vietnam. And then went on to insult veterans and those who died in combat.

As usual, Trump had a very chill weekend, getting all worked up after one of his stooges, Texas attorney general Ken Paxton, was impeached.

All The Best New Music From This Week That You Need To Hear

Keeping up with new music can be exhausting, even impossible. From the weekly album releases to standalone singles dropping on a daily basis, the amount of music is so vast it’s easy for something to slip through the cracks. Even following along with the Uproxx recommendations on a daily basis can be a lot to ask, so every Monday we’re offering up this rundown of the best new music this week.

This week saw Taylor Swift own the narrative (as she does) and Dua Lipa unveil the first musical taste of the much-hyped Barbie movie. Yeah, it was a great week for new music. Check out the highlights below.

For more music recommendations, check out our Listen To This section, as well as our Indie Mixtape and Pop Life newsletters.

Taylor Swift — “Karma” Feat. Ice Spice

Swift’s method of choice for setting the world on fire last week was with Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition), which featured some bonus tracks. One had “more Lana Del Rey” and another was a surprise collaboration with Ice Spice, who added her increasingly beloved signature style to a new version of “Karma.”

Dua Lipa — “Dance The Night”

Dua Lipa is a major part of the new Barbie movie: In addition to an acting role, she also contributed a new song, “Dance The Night,” to the soundtrack. If you liked the disco vibes of Lipa’s recent output, good news: There’s plenty more of that on the fun new track.

Dominic Fike — “Ant Pile”

Lately, Fike has been best known for his run on Euphoria. Now, though, he’s shifting back into music mode with the announcement of a new album, Sunburn. That comes out this summer, but in the meantime, he prefaced with the catchy, rock-influenced single “Ant Pile.”

Yeat and Young Thug — “My Wrist”

Spend some time as a successful figure in the rap game and you’re bound to accumulate some eye-popping jewelry. That’s the topic of discussion on Yeat and Young Thug’s “My Wrist,” on which the two wrappers discuss their success and the opulence it’s allowed them to enjoy.

Lil Durk — “Pelle Coat”

Durk dropped Almost Healed last week and he made the release cinematic with a video for both “Therapy Session” and “Pelle Coat.” Alicia Keys’ spoken-word “Therapy Session” vulnerably sets the table but outlining some of Durk’s recent losses, before the rapper rides through his past in the “Pelle Coat” portion of the visual.

GloRilla — “Lick Or Sum”

GloRilla had a viral summer hit last year with “FNF (Let’s Go)” and now she’s hoping for another on “Lick Or Sum.” The tune samples Three 6 Mafia’s “Slob On My Knob” and it boasts similarly explicit lyrical content, albeit from a female perspective.

Sexyy Red, Nicki Minaj, and Tay Keith — “Pound Town 2”

Recently, Nicki Minaj has unveiled a new collaboration seemingly every week. Her latest is “Pound Town 2” with Sexxy Red and Tay Keith. It’s a new take on Red’s viral single, and of course, they upped the ante when it comes t0 NSFW lyricism.

Ashnikko — “Possession Of A Weapon”

As the one-year anniversary the Supreme Court ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade approaches next month, Ashnikko reflects on the situation with “Possession Of A Weapon.” She sings on the track, “Possession of the p*ssy weapon / My sacral chakra heaven’s threatened / It’s just flesh, it’s just flesh / I can be grotesque, move my body like chess / So you’re scared of me now, huh?”

Maisie Peters — “Two Weeks Ago”

Peters has a big sophomore album, The Good Witch, on the way this summer, and she shared a contemplative look at it recently with “Two Weeks Ago.” Uproxx’s Alex Gonzalez describes the track as “a bit more stripped-back than the other songs she’s released from The Good Witch” and notes, “Over a melancholy piano, she keeps trying to figure out where things went wrong, only to later realize that the relationship had simply run its course.”

Arlo Parks — “Devotion”

Arlo Parks dropped one of the most anticipated albums of 2023’s first half with My Soft Machine a few days ago. It’s a great step forward for the artist and “Devotion” is a highlight, a track that oscillates between airy, groovy, and rocking, seamlessly blending these elements together for something cohesive and pleasing.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
