Kendrick Perkins Torched Karl-Anthony Towns For Saying He ‘Changed The Game’

On a recent podcast appearance with Patrick Beverley, Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns said people will consider him as someone who “changed the game” once he retires. Towns adds onto that lofty declaration by saying kids rising through the ranks will be able to play a different way because of how he thrived in the NBA. That quote went viral, as many folks interacted with Towns’ quote, including Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green.

The backlash didn’t end there, when ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins’ addressed Towns’ comments during Thursday’s episode of First Take.

“How can you change the game when at times we don’t even know you exist?” Perkins said. “I feel like with Karl-Anthony Towns, just stop with the interviews at this point, bruh. And who are the people that are gonna say you actually changed the game? You haven’t done it yet.”

As harsh as Perkins’ words may come across, his critiques seem quite measured and reasonable. Towns is a tremendous player and talent. He’s garnered three All-Star honors and two All-NBA nods since entering the league in 2015-16. Yet he also touts a history of going quiet offensively for too long in games and committing undisciplined fouls, and has been inconsistent during his three first-round playoff appearances.

He’s one of the greatest outside shooting big man ever, but needs to avoid those dormant stretches and clean up his decision-making before he enters the utmost echelon of bigs around the league, headlined by champions and two-time MVPs, Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo. If he ever reaches that level, his hopes of changing the game will certainly be much more attainable.

‘Rick And Morty’ Is In The Process Of Recasting All Of Justin Roiland’s Characters

Earlier this year, Adult Swim parted ways with Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland after he was charged with felony domestic abuse. “Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland. Rick and Morty will continue. The talented and dedicated crew are hard at work on season 7,” a tweet posted to the show’s account read. The charges were later dropped due to “insufficient evidence,” but Roiland is not coming back (he was reportedly barely involved with the show, anyway).

In a translated interview with the French publication Première, Adult Swim channel president Michael Ouweleen discussed how Rick and Morty will move forward without Roiland.

“He will be replaced in dubbing,” Ouweleen said. When asked if that means imitators, he replied, “No, not imitators… In any case, the idea is that we feel that they are the same characters. Listen: voices are obviously super important in an animated series. And, of course, none of us wanted to go through what we went through. But I’ve been in animation for a long time, and I know that what makes a series is its different parts coming together. If the voices are obviously a big part, there is also the writing of the characters, their design… I have reason to believe that the transition will go well.”

A Rick and Morty executive producer said that they’re “still in the recruitment process” of finding a replacement — or replacements, as Roiland voices both Rick and Morty, and many other characters, adding, “It’s a rather unique situation… I’ll take an example: there have been several great Bugs Bunny voice actors, and I love what Jeff Bennett has done with them. But it’s not Mel Blanc! And yet we recognize the character. I even think that for Rick and Morty we will do even better… It will be fine. It’ll be great.”

Rick and Morty season 7 premieres later this year.

Report: The Bulls Are ‘Quietly Gauging’ Interest In A Zach LaVine Trade

The Chicago Bulls decided to make a big bet on Zach LaVine last offseason, as the team agreed to a 5-year, $215.2 million max extension with him on the first day of free agency. On the heels of a year in which LaVine was productive but Chicago missed out on the playoffs, a new report indicates that the Bulls are looking around and seeing what they could potentially get back if they opted to move him.

According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, while Chicago’s willingness to make a deal is unclear, the team’s front office is “quietly gauging” how interested opposing teams are in acquiring his services.

Wishful executives will keep their eyes peeled on Portland and Damian Lillard, but it’s the Chicago Bulls who have started contacting teams, quietly gauging the trade interest in Zach LaVine, league sources told Yahoo Sports. It remains to be seen just how willing Chicago is to part ways with LaVine, or if it receives a commensurate offer for his services. LaVine has four seasons remaining on his five-year, $215 million contract, and multiple teams have indicated the Bulls are holding a steep valuation for LaVine — one that’s likely to exceed what Washington can ultimately net for Beal.

LaVine is guaranteed to be under contract in each of the next three seasons, and he has a player option ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, when he’ll turn 32 years old during the year, worth just under $49 million. While he had durability issues earlier in his career, LaVine started a career-high 77 games last season and averaged 24.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 35.9 minutes per game.

Karol G Visits Barbie Land For Her And Aldo Ranks’ Colorful Video For ‘Watati,’ Her Single For The ‘Barbie’ Movie

rThe Barbie movie will follow Margot Robbie’s Barbie bravely journeys into the real world with Ken (Ryan Gosling) after noticing things aren’t as perfect as usual in Barbie Land.

Karol G’s video for “Watati,” her single for the star-studded Barbie soundtrack with Aldo Ranks, follows the opposite script. The Colombian superstar visits Barbie Land, mimicking Barbie and Ken’s idyllic habits, like rollerblading on the beach, and posing for a mugshot in outlandishly colorful swimsuits.

The Barbie soundtrack was executive produced by Mark Ronson. Along with Karol G, it boasts Ava Max, Charli XCX, Dominic Fike, Dua Lipa, Fifty Fifty, Gayle, Haim, Ice Spice, Kali, Khalid, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, PinkPantheress, Gosling (!), Tame Impala, and The Kid Laroi.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Went Full Stone Cold At The Nuggets Championship Parade

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is now a two-time NBA champion, but since his first title came with the Lakers in the Bubble in 2020, Thursday in Denver was his first opportunity to enjoy a championship parade.

The veteran wing was a critical addition to the Nuggets this season, as he became part of the glue that connected the team on both ends between stars Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic. As we learned on Thursday, he also brought a different skillset that was needed on this squad: elite partier.

While Nikola Jokic was at the parade out of necessity, wishing he was back in Serbia with his beloved horses, KCP was among the stars of the parade as he drank every beer in sight. At one point, he hopped off his bus and ran over to have a chugging contest with a fan, showing impressive form as he squeezed the can to force the beer into his mouth as fast as possible, slamming it back and then giving the fan a big hug.

Later, he started catching beers on the back of the bus and, like any guy who grew up in the 1990s, couldn’t resist channeling his inner Stone Cold Steve Austin, slamming two together and dousing his face with them.

This is excellent Stone Cold technique, because the goal of a Stone Cold is not to actually drink two beers but to get maybe a quarter of a beer in your mouth and the rest all over your face. KCP nailed that and appeared to be having the time of his life, enjoying the chance to finally get a championship parade for his second ring. As for how many beers he consumed on the afternoon, let’s go to the official count*.

*No confirmation on the bloody mary.

Here Are 10 Fake Trades The Wizards Could Look At For Bradley Beal

Bradley Beal could be on his way out of Washington. According to multiple reports, Beal and the Wizards are in constant communication as the franchise tries to figure out its next step, and if that involves going into a rebuild, it appears Beal could be suiting up for a new team for the first time next season.

Beal is maybe the hardest guy to figure out in the league from a trade perspective. What is the value of a guy on such a gigantic contract, one that gets more expensive over each of the next three seasons before a player option in 2026-27 worth $57.1 million? While Beal is a three-time All-Star, he’s coming off of two straight years where the raw production just hasn’t quite been there, and he’s only played in 90 of a potential 162 games. (It’s worth mentioning that, last season, his field goal percentage of 50.6 percent was the best of his career.)

And then there’s the no-trade clause. The holder of the only true no-trade clause in the league — one that will follow him wherever he goes next — Beal has the ability to reject any trade Washington gets. This doesn’t just mean that he’ll be able to pick his destination, because he has the ability to say, hypothetically, that he doesn’t like the return, as well. It’s worth mentioning that this works both ways, because he can say the Wizards aren’t getting enough just as easily as he can say his new team is giving up too much.

With all that said, let’s dive into a few potential trades that could lead to Beal heading elsewhere. The first two, which we’ll dive into a little deeper, are from the teams that have been most closely linked to him, while everything after is exploring a pure hypothetical.

Milwaukee Bucks: Jrue Holiday, MarJon Beauchamp, 2029 first-round pick

For financial purposes, a deal between Milwaukee and Washington for Beal would almost certainly have to include Holiday, unless the two teams decide to do something weird with a Khris Middleton sign-and-trade that doesn’t make a ton of sense for either side. It should be noted that was what Marc Stein reported would be how the deal would get done, but it’s hard to imagine why Washington would want a soon-to-be 32-year-old Middleton if they’re trying to reset the roster, and it’s hard to imagine why Milwaukee would want to move someone with his two-way value on the wing (unless they are concerned about his long-term health). Holiday, meanwhile, is under contract for this season and has a player option for 2024-25, and if the Wizards were to bring him on board, he’d make sense as a guy who can be flipped elsewhere for picks and/or players that help Washington rebuild.

Would that be a hard pill to swallow for the Bucks? Of course, as Holiday has been excellent for them on and off the court. But on the heels of a premature postseason exit, turning Holiday into Beal would be an interesting way to shake things up and add some more self-creation to an offense that could use it. This would also be a way for them to avoid having to hammer out a new deal with Holiday, while giving them a player who is going to stick around for the foreseeable future.

To sweeten the pot, Milwaukee can throw in its 2029 first-round pick, which is the only pick they can move without any restrictions due to the trade with the New Orleans Pelicans that landed them Holiday. Beauchamp isn’t the sort of young building block who makes or breaks a deal, but he’d give the Wizards a young wing that they can work to develop as they enter would could be a few lean years.

Miami Heat: Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, 2023 first-round pick

You can swap Herro for Kyle Lowry if you’d like, but in the aftermath of a run to the NBA Finals that saw Herro get hurt very early in the playoffs, it would be pretty easy for Miami to justify moving on from him in order to bring in an All-Star caliber player whose skillset would greatly help on offense. There is the question of whether Washington would rather have Lowry’s deal, which expires after the 2023-24 season, over Herro and a guy like Robinson — the former is signed through 2026-27 and makes the most money of all three Heat players mentioned here, the latter has a player option in 2025-26.

Having said that, with Beal moving on in this situation and both Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma capable of hitting unrestricted free agency this summer, Herro at least gives the Wizards a sure thing as they figure out what this next chapter looks like. Can he continue to build on a nice 2022-23 season, where he averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game with a career-best effective field goal percentage of 53.1 percent? Can Robinson, who found his jumper in a big way during the playoffs after really struggling from deep during the regular season, get back to being one of the NBA’s premier sharpshooters from deep? If the answer to both is yes, this would be a really nice deal for Washington.

And then there’s the pick, as Miami’s struggles during the regular season mean they’re the rare NBA Finals team that has a pick inside the top-20 — the Heat are currently slated to pick 18th next week. Unless Washington wants to bet on teams being terrible down the road, it’s probably not getting a pick that high in the near future, and with the talent in this year’s draft, that can easily turn into a useful player. The Heat could try to sweeten this pot with a future pick, too, as Miami has its firsts in 2027, 2028, and 2029.

Portland Trail Blazers: Anfernee Simons, Jusuf Nurkic, a first-round pick

Simons and Nurkic make the money work, and would give Washington a pair of reliable NBA players. The draft capital is the big thing here — it would make sense for Washington to ask for the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, which, no. Would the No. 23 pick in this draft be something that Portland puts on the table? Would it work better with a pick down the road, with the Blazers having their 2026-29 picks available? (Their 2025 pick can’t be moved without violating the Stepien Rule.) Would Portland even be interested in having a second guard on the wrong side of 30 on a monster deal that hampers its ability to build a team, especially if its own rebuild is potentially on the table?

New York Knicks: Julius Randle, Evan Fournier, a variety of draft pick options

If Washington wants to bring in some veterans who could help them right away while simultaneously getting stuff back for down the road, a deal like this makes sense. New York’s war chest of draft capital is rivaled by few others in the league and can give up a ton of stuff for Beal, even if it’s fair to wonder if he’s the guy for whom it’s worth cashing in some of those picks. But a backcourt of Beal and Jalen Brunson would be a whole lot of fun, so maybe it’s worth kicking the tires.

Dallas Mavericks: Davis Bertans, Tim Hardaway Jr., Jaden Hardy, 2027 first-round pick

Consider Beal insurance against Kyrie Irving deciding he wants to play basketball elsewhere and a way to show Luka Doncic that they’re willing to get him a new running mate. Dallas should probably stop doing the thing where it moves every single long-term asset it has, as Hardy is a promising youngster and that 2027 first-round pick could be quite valuable (perhaps they could include it and add a lottery protection or something). Having said that, a Doncic-Beal pairing could be fun. Is it a thing the Mavs seriously want to pursue? Probably not, but then again, Dallas loves making a splash even if it doesn’t make a ton of sense.

Golden State Warriors: Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga, Patrick Baldwin

It’s the Warriors and an All-Star is available, so we’ll list them even though a trade would suddenly make paying Draymond Green and Klay Thompson even more expensive than it already is. Would they really want to get older and make team building under this new Collective Bargaining Agreement even tougher? Who knows! Everything’s about maximizing the odds they win more while Steph Curry is on the team, and maybe they determine this helps.

Boston Celtics: Malcolm Brogdon, Danilo Gallinari, Mike Muscala, Luke Kornet, Justin Champagnie, Sam Hauser, 2025 first-round pick
Philadelphia 76ers: Tobias Harris, Furkan Korkmaz, 2029 first-round pick

Both of these teams have priorities other than pursuing Beal, and both have reportedly not shown any interest in getting into the Beal sweepstakes. Boston needs to figure out Jaylen Brown’s future and trading him for Beal would be a legitimately shocking move (and plenty of people would consider that a downgrade), and Philadelphia clearly wants to bring James Harden back. So while they’re fun spots to imagine for a Beal deal, we can almost certainly count them out for now.

Phoenix Suns: Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, any amount of draft capital they can cobble together
Los Angeles Clippers: Eric Gordon, Robert Covington, Terance Mann, Milwaukee’s 2023 first-round pick (No. 30)

Two teams under insane amounts of pressure to do something next season, and while neither has been publicly linked with a Beal deal, there’s stuff they can throw together to make it work financially — of those two options, the Los Angeles one is clearly more appealing than the Phoenix one, although the Suns could swap Paul with Deandre Ayton and make a deal happen if they decide to give up on the concept of having centers altogether. It’s hard to see Beal wanting to go to either team, where he’d be the No. 3 option more often than not, but crazier things have happened, I suppose.

Michael Malone Predicts The Nuggets Will Win Another Title At Their Championship Parade: ‘We’re Some Greedy Bastards’

On Thursday morning, the Denver Nuggets hosted their championship parade after stamping the franchise’s first ever title by dispatching the Miami Heat in five games earlier this week. Shortly after the Nuggets won on Monday night, head coach Michael Malone made clear he and his team were not content with a singular championship and want to bring more titles to Denver. During Thursday’s parade, he reinforced that sentiment and took it a step further.

“What a great day to celebrate a championship, but we’re not done yet,” Malone said. “We’re some greedy bastards, baby. We’re getting another one!”

The Nuggets waited 47 years for their first championship. Malone spent eight years in Denver before reaching the mountaintop and was an NBA assistant or head coach elsewhere from 2001-2013. None of the prior pitstops produced a title either. But he seems confident about this group’s chances to repeat at some point.

Winning once is incredibly hard, let alone forming a dynasty. These Nuggets are as well positioned as anyone around the league to do so, though, with the majority of their core locked up long-term and currently on the come up or amid their prime. Maybe, a year from now, we’ll be referencing this quote from Malone as a prophecy rather than hopeful proclamation it stands as right now.

Billie Eilish Pushes Back On Fans Liking Her Cult Leader ‘Swarm’ Character: ‘Guys, No!’

Billie Eilish made a big leap in her acting career earlier this year with the role of cult leader Ava in Donald Glover’s series Swarm. The show shines a spotlight on multiple sides of fan passion, which Eilish sees as both “beautiful” and “really scary.”

She told Variety in a new interview, “That fan passion is so real, and it’s so beautiful, but it’s also really scary, and I think the show is a metaphor for this power — how people really are in the delusional nature of, ‘She’s gonna see me and we’re gonna be best friends!’ Fans are really, so powerful, and I think maybe they don’t realize how powerful they are.”

She also noted of an unscripted moment between her and Dominique Fishback, and how fans who like her Eva character perhaps don’t understand her real motives:

“It’s so f*cked up and classic. This hippie, white b*tch is gaslighting this Black girl, and then reaches out and grabs one of her f*cking braids. She’s telling me she’s murdered all these people, and instead of me being like, ‘Oh my God, you’re so f*cked up,’ I’m tearing up and saying that she’s a warrior, and holding her hands and getting close to her and playing with her braid and leaning in. We wanted this upsetting, weird, seductive, sexual-but-also-not power dynamic. Eva’s reaction to all of it, somehow, is to kiss her.

Some of the fans have talked about how they love Eva [and think she’s] so comforting. Guys, no! It’s a front! She wants the worst of the worst! And that happens where people bring you in and make you feel comfortable and safe, and then they abuse the sh*t out of that.”

Check out more from the interview here.

French Montana Had To Mediate His Kids’ Hilarious Debate Over Ice Spice And Latto

If you’re a parent, odds are you’ve been unexpectedly forced to play referee to your kids’ debates and apparently, that doesn’t change if you’re a famous rapper. French Montana was recently pulled into mediating one of Twitter’s hottest discourses at dinner with his sons after one of his friends who was with them insisted “Latto is better than Ice Spice.” French, who was just trying to get a cute video congratulating his recently graduated son, was surprised into having to pick a side — and promptly sidestepped a potentially sticky situation (he might want to collaborate with either or both one day, after all).

“Nah, never,” he says in the video. “They both equal.” The boys then playfully flirted with the rappers on camera, joking, “Hit my phone!” and “Get Latto to hit me up!”

The two rappers have been pitted against each other frequently on Twitter, mainly as a result of Latto’s recent disagreement with Nicki Minaj. When Nicki collaborated with Ice Spice on her remix of “Princess Diana,” the Barbz took it as an opportunity to use Ice Spice as a proxy in their everlasting intifada against anyone who would dare speak ill of their Queen. When Latto apparently lashed out at Nicki in her song “Put In On Da Floor,” they took pains to stretch as many of those lyrics as they could to encompass Ice Spice as well. (For what it’s worth, Ice Spice is a bit of a lightning rod for comparison these days in general.)

However, neither rapper has ever displayed any public indication of a disagreement, and while the Barbz love to compare them, they’re both in completely separate portions of their respective careers (Ice Spice has yet to drop her debut album; Latto is promoting album number three). The obvious solution is for everybody involved to join in on Coi Leray’s idea of a “Ladies’ Night” remake, showing solidarity instead of fanning the flames. It’s unlikely, but hey, stranger things have happened.
