Salma Hayek Had A Blast Doing The Most ‘Disgusting, Grotesque Things’ On ‘Black Mirror’

Not every role can be sexy-dancing with Channing Tatum. Sometimes, you have to get a little “disgusting.”

In an interview with Radio Times, Salma Hayek discussed her upcoming episode of Black Mirror. “There are so many moments that shocked me in the script,” she said. “There is one huge one that I had to come to terms with, and made me ask myself, do I really want to do this? Am I going to get in trouble?”

In the episode, Hayek plays the celebrity version of an “average woman [who] is stunned to discover a global streaming platform has launched a prestige TV drama adaptation of her life.” That’s the most Black Mirror plot imaginable.

Hayek continued, “It’s as if I created an alter ego where I could do the most disgusting, grotesque things that you would never do in real life — and have permission to do that.” The social media expert added, “It’s been absurd and a lot of fun. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play an interpretation of myself.”

I’m extending the offer now: if Salma Hayek wants to play me in a prestige TV drama adaptation of my life, she has my permission.

Black Mirror returns to Netflix for season six on June 15th.

Jean Dawson Gave 50 Cent’s ‘Window Shopper’ An Alt-Rock Spin In Honor Of Black Music Month

Rock innovator Jean Dawson has shared an electrifying cover of a 50 Cent classic. Today (June 14), as part of a special Spotify Singles series honoring Black Music Month, Dawson covered 50’s 2005 hit single, “Window Shopper.”

Dawson’s cover of “Window Shopper” pays homage to 50, while giving it a rock-influenced spin of his own, complete with clashing percussion and plucky guitars.

He explained that he chose to cover “Window Shopper,” as 50’s name has been ubiquitous in a variety of genres.

“People fail to realize that he [50 Cent] was an innovator in being hyper-melodic while doing a format of music that was known for being more rhythmic,” said Dawson in a statement. “I have always seen him as being very punk rock.”

50 may posit to say the same thing about his own music. In a recent interview with Vulture, 50 said that he believed that at his peak, his music was able to unite a diverse bunch of people.

“It’s very rare that you can get these people to agree on stuff,” he said. “And one thing within entertainment culture is when it works, it feels like magic because the music comes on and they can agree to have a good time.”

You can check out Dawson’s cover of “Window Shopper” above.

Jack Harlow Comes Home To Some Bad News In His Contemplative ‘Gang Gang Gang’ Video

Jack Harlow contemplates the nature of “so-called unconditional love” in the video for “Gang Gang Gang” from his new album Jackman.

“Gang Gang Gang” was a standout even among the outstanding collection of songs that constitutes Jackman. Jack addresses one of the worst parts of growing up: finding out who all among your peers disappointed the optimism of your youth. Detailing the stories of a pair of friends who got into trouble through verses constructed as conversations between Jack and another friend catching up after he returns home, “Gang Gang Gang” depicts the troubling aspects of close friends when our peers let their demons get the best of them.

“Unconditional love / Becomes very conditioned when push comes to shove,” Jack observes. “And all that talk of takin’ bullets suddenly feels foolish / Pictures with him turn to ad campaigns, you gotta pull it.”

Jackman was well-received by fans compared to Jack’s prior album, Come Home The Kids Miss You, prompting the rapper to share a grateful message on Twitter. “I just wanna say the love & respect I’ve felt from not only my peers… but from YALL… the fans… the folks that have supported me from the beginning… it feels f***in amazing…” he wrote. “I have never felt so connected to the people listening to my music… thank you.”

Jack Harlow is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Jeffrey Wright And Adrien Brody On Wes Anderson’s ‘Asteroid City’

When actors are presented as a pair out of a press day, I always wonder how the pairing is done. Now, often, the two actors maybe have a lot of scenes together and it makes sense for the two to talk about how they perform with each other. But, that’s not really the case with Jeffrey Wright and Adrien Brody in Wes Anderson’s new film, Asteroid City. In fact, the two aren’t really in the same realm of existence. (I’ll attempt to explain that part ahead.) Now, the two did star together in 2008’s Cadillac Record, but I got the feeling this wasn’t a reunion celebrating the 15th anniversary of that particular film. And they both were in Anderson’s The French Dispatch, but not in the same vignette. It seems, this time, As Brody puts it, he wanted to be paired with someone who gave good answers so he wouldn’t have to do much. (Which is true, Jeffrey Wright does give really good answers.)

The easiest way to describe Asteroid City is to just ask, “What would it look like if Wes Anderson had made Close Encounters of the Third Kind?” It would look a lot like this. This is a movie that features, perhaps, the most twee alien in cinematic history. Getting into the actual plot gets a little more complicated. We are told upfront this story is a play. And there is a play, but the story presented in the play is the behind-the-scenes making of the play, in which Adrien Brody plays the director, Schubert Green. The actual narrative of the play is presented as a movie. The one we are watching. In that, it’s 1955 and a whole host of characters wind up in a remote desert town for a school science invention competition where kids display the new ray guns and jetpacks they’ve built. During the course of the competition, an alien visits, briefly. Jeffrey Wright’s General Grif Gibson shows up to then put the town under indefinite quarantine. (Honestly, when you’re watching it, it all makes perfect sense.)

Ahead, Wright and Brody share their experiences working with Wes Anderson over the years, especially Brody who has been in most of Anderson’s movies starting with The Darjeeling Limited. (So, yes, he did wind up having to say some things.) And Wright tells us, as we were watching poor Felix Leiter meet his fate in No Time To Die, Wright was having quite the blast on that very elaborate set.

When they pair people together, I’m always wondering why they choose the people they do. Like, are these two friends?

Adrien Brody: They paired me because I can sit back and let Jeffrey do the talking. And Jeffrey can eloquently describe a mutual appreciation for the work, and for Wes, and I stand by what he says. So, that’s part of it.

Jeffrey Wright: We’re both in trouble because of that, yeah. We’ll get in trouble together, I think.

I’ve always wondered this about doing Wes Anderson movies. Obviously, he uses a lot of the same people from movie to movie, and Adrien has been in quite a few and this is Jeffrey’s second. When you get the call for the second one, is that when you feel like you’re in the group?

Jeffrey Wright: Yes, this is my second. I guess… well, he’s created a company, and I think he chooses people that he thinks can be versatile and play a variety of things. He’s very specific in what he creates, but also who he invites. And I, as well, think that, after the first one as an actor, you get a sense of how he works. And he gets a sense of how you work, and if it syncs, then why not do it again? I absolutely adored working with him the first time and I really got him. I kind of got his thing, in this sense. He’s very demanding, somewhat perfectionist, and I appreciate that. But he’s demanding in the best way – in that he’s pushing you to go past where you thought you might go. Or pushing you to do something beyond what you expected. Those are the best directors to work with, but he’s doing it with a gentle hand. It’s a relentless but gentle hand. And I also get his irony, his humor, and his writing. So, it was a great experience the first time and why not do it again?

Adrien’s right, that was great. You really don’t have to do much in these interviews, do you?

Adrien Brody: No! That’s what I’m saying, you know? I can sit back and ogle.

Jeffrey Wright: Road to nowhere, road to nowhere.

I also wonder, if you’re not in one, do you worry? Like when Isle of Dogs comes around were you like, “Hey, why am I not in that?”

Adrien Brody: Nah, it’s all right. I mean, we all live busy, creative lives. I love Wes, we have a great… we have a long life ahead, you know? I really appreciate every one of these experiences and I don’t have any expectations in life, or of others, in that sense. I feel profoundly grateful for how he’s influenced my life, both in the professional and in the personal sense. I mean, I’ve experienced wonderful life experiences together with him, and he’s given me a great foray into comedic work, which most filmmakers weren’t as quick to see me in those kind of characters. And so it’s been wonderful.

That’s interesting. So, he’s the first one who saw that side of you? You were trying to do that, and people weren’t letting you do it?

Adrien Brody: I think work begets work. And if you do well in dramatic films and you aspire to do films that touch you, are meaningful, and have some social relevance, which I do, and you do the press to honor that work, there’s less room for sense of humor, you know? And that doesn’t come across as much. So, it takes filmmakers like Wes, and Rian Johnson, and other filmmakers that I’ve worked with in the past, who have kind of seen that side of me, and you know…

The Brothers Bloom, that movie’s great.

Adrien Brody: It is great!

Last time I talked to Jeffrey was for No Time to Die. We really couldn’t get into spoilers then. I am curious, when you were filming your last scene as Felix Leiter, at that point were you aware James Bond would also die at the end of the movie?

Jeffrey Wright: A bit… Yeah, there was a… Yeah.

I didn’t know if you were watching it at the premiere going, “What the hell?” like the rest of us were.

Adrien Brody: [Laughs] Is there an expiration date on spoilers? What about people who hadn’t seen that film yet?

Well, it’s been a couple of years now, I think the word is out that James met his fate.

Jeffrey Wright: Mainly, when we were filming that, I was having the time of my life. That was the most incredible rig that they had engineered, it was just brilliant. We were up at Pinewood in this… I think it was a six million-gallon tank? I forget exactly. Massive. And Chris Corbould had created this rig that was just so ingenious – that sank and then lifted, and submerged, and twisted. So it was like an amusement park ride and we had oxygen tanks at very strategic spots, so if you got in trouble we could go get a breath. I never had so much fun drowning before in my life. It was a blast. That was mainly what I was feeling, I was just having a ball.

‘Asteroid City’ opens in theaters this weekend. You can contact Mike Ryan directly on Twitter.

Will The BET Awards 2023 Be Canceled By The WGA Strike?

With the Writer’s Guild of America strike entering its seventh week and the production of dozens of movies and TV shows being disrupted, the fates of many other entertainment endeavors appear undecided as well. Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre have postponed the 30th-anniversary shows of their groundbreaking 1990s debut albums in solidarity with the striking writers, while the MTV Movie & TV Awards had to go on without a host as Drew Barrymore opted out of her duties and several stars declined to attend. That leaves a lot of questions about upcoming shows, including:

Will The BET Awards 2023 Be Canceled By The WGA Strike?

The 2023 BET Awards ceremony is set to air live Sunday, June 25 at 8 pm ET, with nominees like Drake, GloRilla, and more. Aside from announcing the nominees, however, BET has yet to reveal further details of the upcoming show, leaving the future somewhat murky. While it’s possible that BET can field a host who doesn’t mind metaphorically crossing the picket line — or even go without one, like the MTV Awards — it’s unclear how the show will proceed, especially if more performers and guests opt to show solidarity with the writers (the awards honor movies, actors, and athletes in addition to musicians). Anything can happen, but for now, it does appear the show will proceed as scheduled.

Gulf Coast beachgoers got a surprise when sharks and a bear showed up for some fun in the sun

It’s finally summertime. Kids are out of school and family vacations are underway, so beaches are packed with locals and tourists. But there are a few tourists no one expects to see as they turn themselves like a rotisserie chickens while they soak up the sun, and one of them is a bear.

That’s right, beachgoers got a pretty big surprise while enjoying the sun in Destin, Florida. There were families playing in the water and hanging out on the sand when a black bear swam out of the gulf and ran across the beach. It’s not clear where the bear came from or how it got in the water unnoticed. From the video, it seems like the bear just sort of emerged with no explanation as to how it got there in the first place.

Thankfully, no one was hurt and the black bear scurried off uninterested in the people around him. But a bear wasn’t the only unusual sighting at the beaches on the Gulf Coast. Just about two hours away in Orange Beach, Alabama, people were also met with surprise visitors.

People hanging out near boats in shallow water got a view of marine life that you don’t usually see that close to shore. A school of hammerhead sharks decided they wanted to swim in warmer water and maybe see what people looked like up close. Who knows, maybe they were having a field trip to the surface after bumping into Ariel and Sebastian.

“There were four to six of them and they were kinda just thrashing around in the water chasing bait fish, so I just kinda stayed there and watched them,” Paul Hubbell told WWLTV.

But seriously, this should go without saying, if you run into a group of sharks hanging out by boats, don’t bother them. As with any unexpected encounter with wildlife, experts suggest never approaching wild animals—don’t feed them or attempt to interact with them in any way. So while hammerhead sharks are generally disinterested in humans, you shouldn’t go try to pet them.

Not sure what’s in the water on the Gulf Coast, but if you plan to vacation there for their white sand beaches and crystal clear water, you might want to bring a set of binoculars to keep an extra eye out for bears and sharks.

7-year-old sings ‘Peaches’ at talent show and the whole crowd joins in

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” has been out for a little while now and kids everywhere have been enthralled. Toys, costumes and repeat screenings of the movie are a pretty common theme in people’s houses right now, but there’s one thing parents likely hear more than anything from that movie—the “Peaches” song.

“Peaches” is a sweet melody sung by Bowser, otherwise known as King Koopa, about Princess Peach, his eternally unrequited love interest. Koopa has been after Princess Peach since I was a literal child, and while I think it may be time for him to move on, he clearly does not. Thus we are blessed with a tune heard around the world, and thanks to Jack Black, we even have a music video to accompany the song.

But the cutest rendition of “Peaches” comes from a 7-year-old who sang the song at his school’s talent show while dressed as Bowser.

The boy’s mom, who runs the TikTok page @letsgocairo, uploaded the video that now has over 6.6 million views and more than 730K likes. He takes his seat at the piano and starts plunking out the notes in his King Koopa costume. As soon as he starts to speak the first few words, you hear giggles from the crowd, but once the singing starts, he suddenly isn’t alone.

The entire room full of kids watching the talent show start singing along and waving their arms to the music. Parents and teachers in the room are thoroughly amused as they giggle while the kids start shouting, “I love you,” which is part of the song.

“Why am I crying? This is so wholesome,” one person wrote, complete with crying emojis.

“He got the WHOLE CROWD GOING!!!! TURNED IT INTO A MINI CONCERT! absolutely amazing and so talented!!! great job my dude!!!,” another person said.

“I can’t love this enough‼️🤣💖” someone wrote.

Several people tagged Jack Black in hopes he would see his tiny protege absolutely making the crowd go wild at an elementary school talent show. Check out the adorable video below.

Mom shares refreshingly real kid’s party invitation telling folks to ‘lower their expectations’

Sure, kids’ parties are fun for the kids. But you know who they’re a living hell for? Literally everyone else. Be it the poor mom or dad having to whip up decorations on a dime store budget, food that adheres to all allergies and preferences, and at least one overly expensive bounce house…or the other parents trying to wrangle their sugar-crazed child once the party is over. And let’s not forget the brave souls who arrive as Spider-Man or a Disney Princess and do a whole song and dance for an hour and a half.

And to top it all off, no matter how much effort is put into throwing this shindig, it will pale in comparison to the meticulously curated soirees seen on Pinterest Boards and social media. It’s all enough to make adults dread the entire experience.

However, one mom decided to completely lean into this fact of life with her no-B.S. party invitation, and millions of fellow parents are absolutely loving it.

The invite was posted on TikTok by Nat Lele, whose son brought it home from school. It read as follows:

“Evan, you are invited to [Insert Child’s Name Here] fifth birthday party. This event is brought to you by Pinterest Fails and the Dollar Store, so please set your expectations appropriately.”

Throwing out a ridiculously hodgepodge party theme, based of course on her kid’s random ideas, the invite continued:

“As requested, the theme will be unicorns but with rainbows and maybe bats, but there should be princesses and also Minnie and we need dancing lights so dress accordingly. Please pack a bathing suit, sunscreen, puddle jumpers, etc. in case your sweet baby angels decide our original plan sucks and the pool would be a better time.”

@not.just.nat #greenscreen These are my people. #birthdayparty #partyinvitations #parenting #funny #hilarious #adultjuice ♬ Comedy Music – Nissa

To be honest, a rainbow-unicorn-bat-princess-Minnie dance party by the pool sounds pretty lit.

Most relatable of all, the invite concluded by giving parents themselves a chance to opt out of the party altogether, saying that:

“If you would like to drop off and run, we support that entirely. If you would like to stay, we will provide adult juice and deny any offers to help, to be polite, but deep down, want to support you. You do you.”

Of course, Lele will absolutely be attending, because, as she put it, “These are my people. This is the kind of mom I can be friends with.”

Lele wasn’t the only one who was totally on board with the mystery mom’s refreshingly real approach. The video got over 4.5 million views, over 670,000 likes and oodles of comments from other parents showing their support.

“This is incredible. It’s what we’re all thinking when hosting kids parties 😂,” one person wrote.

Another added, “I’m glad a parent is finally lowering the standards/expectations because I’m done with these Pinterest/IG inspired kid parties 🙌🥳🍹”

Others were excited to see how the party would actually pan out. One person joked that they “Can’t wait to see how everyone interprets ‘dress accordingly.’ Someone better be dressed like a bat princess.”

“PLEASE update us when you attend. I NEED to know how this sick party rolls out,” another added.

Good news: Lele agreed to post a follow-up video showing how the party went. To find out for yourself, follow her on TikTok.

And parents—next time you’re feeling the pressure from your own party planning, remember that brutal honesty is sometimes the best policy.

Guy turns Dr. Seuss books into awesome rap songs with superhuman accuracy

Dr. Seuss’ early books predate rap music by more than three decades, but anyone who has read the rhythmic “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish” or the tongue-twisting “Fox in Socks”—or any of Seuss’s delightful rhymes, really—can instantly see the connection between the two.

In fact, my daughter was just asking me the other day if anyone had made Dr. Seuss books into rap songs, and I told her about a man I wrote about a few years ago, Wes Tank, who went viral for putting Dr. Seuss rhymes to smooth Dr. Dre beats.

But now there’s a new Seuss rapper who goes in a slightly different direction than Tank, hearkening to the fast rap stylings of Eminem and Busta Rhymes. Jordan Simons has garnered a following of 23 million TikTok users, simply by rapping Dr. Seuss books.

Well, “simply” is a bit of an understatement.

Like, the ABCs are simple, right? Dr. Seuss made a fun little book that helps familiarize kids with the sounds of the alphabet, but it’s never sounded like this:

@jordansimons4

Rappin “Dr. Seuss’s ABC” by Dr. Seuss! #rappinrhymebooks #DrSeuss #FYP #fyp #foryourpage #rap #bars

Right?!?

I read “Fox in Sox” so many times to my kids over the years, I have the whole book memorized. And in my wildest dreams, I could never do this:

@jordansimons4

(Part 1/2) Rappin “Fox in Socks” by Dr. Seuss! #rappinrhymebooks #DrSeuss #fyp #foryourpage #rap #bars

Part 2 is just as impressive. (The tweetle beetle battle part has always been my favorite to read.)

How about “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish”? I read that so many times as a child, I had it memorized before I had my own kids. And still, could I ever pull off this feat? Nope.

@jordansimons4

Simons’ most popular video to date was his rapping of “Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can you?” It may not be as well known as some of Seuss’ other books, but when you see it you’ll see why it’s been watched more than 36 million times.

Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance Tour’ Concert In Sweden Actually Contributed To Country-Wide Inflation, An Economist Claims

On May 10, Beyoncé kicked off her Renaissance World Tour in Stockholm, Sweden. Michael Grahn, Danske Bank’s chief economist in Sweden, is now claiming that the pop star had an impact on inflation purely by stopping by.

According to Politico, new data from Statistics Sweden shows a 0.3-percent rise from April to May. This is sparked by “a broad set of goods and services, for instance, hotel and restaurant visits” and “recreational services,” which the publication notes as including concert ticket purchases.

“Beyoncé’s start of her world tour in Sweden seems to have colored May inflation. How much is uncertain, but probably 0.2 p.p. of the 0.3 p.p. that hotels/restaurants added,” Grahn said. “We expect this upside surprise to be reversed in June as prices on hotels and tickets reverse back to normal.”

However, the publication pushed back against Grahn’s statement, pointing out that large concerts or sports events can boost hotel prices and other costs in towns, but this does not stay permanently or affect the entire country.

Politico goes on to showcase another example of this, using the Roland-Garros tennis tournament in Paris as an example, which caused hotel prices to rise by 4.3 percent. Beyoncé also held a concert in Paris during her current European tour and the situation was similar.
