Nurse turns inappropriate things men say in the delivery room into ‘inspirational’ art

After working six years as a labor and delivery nurse Holly, 30, has heard a lot of inappropriate remarks made by men while their partners are in labor. “Sometimes the moms think it’s funny—and if they think it’s funny, then I’ll laugh with them,” Holly told TODAY Parents. “But if they get upset, I’ll try to be the buffer. I’ll change the subject.”

Some of the comments are so wrong that she did something creative with them by turning them into “inspirational” quotes and setting them to “A Thousand Miles” by Vanessa Carlton on TikTok.

“Some partners are hard to live up to!” she jokingly captioned the video.

The first video featured the following facepalm-inducing quotes:

“I think you should just get a C-section. This is taking too long.”

“How long is this gonna take? I have plans this weekend.”

“Are you sure you want an epidural? My mom didn’t have one. Before you make a decision, we should talk about it.”

“Sew an extra stitch down there for me, doc. We want everything just the way it was before all of this.”

@hollyd_rn

Part 1: Some partners are hard to live up to! Get you a good one #laboranddelivery #labor

It’s unbelievable that anyone would make such selfish comments while their partner is in the throes of giving birth. Anyone who would ask, “How long is this gonna take?” definitely isn’t prepared to raise a child.

Some TikTok users thought that these women should have left their partners right there in the delivery room.

“LOL immediate divorce, I’m not joking,” Rig wrote. Little_n_often agreed saying, “I’d be getting the divorce papers ready.”

“I would sign the divorce papers while in labor and pushing,” another commenter wrote.

The video was a massive hit on TikTok, receiving over 10 million views. So, the nurse followed it up with a sequel where she shared more “inspirational” delivery room quotes from men.

@hollyd_rn

Part 2: some partners are hard to live up to! Get you a good one! #laboranddelivery #babydaddy #labor

“Wake me up when the baby gets here I’m tired.” (Rolls over, puts cover over head and slept thru the birth of his baby.)

“Can you move to the birthing ball so I can sleep in the bed?”

(As the patient is pushing) “Do you guys do DNA tests here? My mom wants me to get one before we leave.”

“Call me when you’re about to have the baby. I’m gonna go with [name redacted] to the bar and watch the game.”

Holly also told TODAY Parents that men should also keep their thoughts on pain medication to themselves and to stop looking at the contraction monitor and making comments.

“She can feel it!” Holly said. “You don’t need to ask her if she felt it. Trust me, she did.”

Holly’s public airing of men’s bad behavior had to be therapeutic, because, as a nurse, she can’t tell them off in the delivery room. But it’s also a warning to men out there on how not to behave when their partners are giving birth. If there was ever a time in the world to stop thinking about yourself, it’s while your partner is giving birth.

Remember guys, think before you say anything in the delivery room, the nurses are listening.

Indie Mixtape 20: Palehound Find Their Crowning Achievement On ‘Eye On The Bat’

El Kempner, guitarist and vocalist for Palehound, has had a lot of achievements in their life. They’ve released three acclaimed albums since 2015, four if you include their collab with Jay Som’s Melina Duterte as Bachelor, and they’re about to embark on a lengthy tour with Jimmy Eat World. But, in their words, the “crowning achievement” of their life arrives on Palehound’s upcoming album Eye On The Bat. Specifically the video to “My Evil,” which is a near shot-by-shot remake of the Sopranos intro sequence.

Videos aside, the songs on Eye On The Bat are also crowning achievement worthy. Tracks like “Independence Day” manages to be an enveloping, explosive ballad even with just a few instruments while “Cluth” is an impassioned and skillful anthem. The album illuminates how Palehound manages to exist in a space that’s soft, vulnerable, edgy and powerful all at once.

To celebrate Eye On The Bat‘s upcoming release, Kempner sits down with Uproxx to talk secret basketball skills, American Idiot, and Big Thief helping fix their car in our latest Q&A.

What are four words you would use to describe your music?

Anxious, horny, empathetic, emo.

It’s 2050 and the world hasn’t ended and people are still listening to your music. How would you like it to be remembered?

As someone who wrote music that guided/helped them through a phase of life.

What’s your favorite city in the world to perform?

New York, because it’s closest to the majority of my family and friends/the family and friends of my bandmates so those shows are always like big parties.

Who’s the person who has most inspired your work, and why?

This is gonna sound like a really corny Miley Cyrus-esque answer but, it’s my dad. He’s the person who got me into music in the first place, he gave me my first few guitar lessons. Everything I do now is in the hopes that it’ll make him proud/not regret supporting me on this path.

Where did you eat the best meal of your life?

This is an impossible question to answer but it has to be something I had when I traveled Greece last year. Every meal we went to at a taverna was a revelation.

What album do you know every word to?

Let Go by Avril Lavigne.

What was the best concert you’ve ever attended?

I definitely can’t name just one but what’s coming to mind right now is Brittany Howard playing as her project Thunderbitch at CMJ 2015. She rode a motorcycle onto the stage at the Knitting Factory. I hadn’t listened to any of her work with Alabama Shakes at this point so this was my exposure to her and it was one of the most inspiring experiences I’ve ever had.

What is the best outfit for performing and why?

Comfy jeans, an open button up shirt, and a bra or tank top underneath. Comfort is key but so is looking hot and I feel like this has been my outfit that has struck that balance the best.

Who’s your favorite person to follow on Twitter and/or Instagram?

Perfume Genius on Twitter.

What’s your most frequently played song in the van on tour?

We try not to repeat listens on tour and keep it fresh but we do make time at least once every tour to listen to all of American Idiot by Green Day.

What’s the last thing you Googled?

Who directed the terrible Billy Eichner movie Bros and were they gay.

What album makes for the perfect gift?

I would always go with a classic fancy deluxe reissue moment. Recently I gave someone Purple Rain.

Where’s the weirdest place you’ve ever crashed while on tour?

A trash hoarder’s house in Mansfield Ohio. I slept on a couch covered in cigarette butts next to a swarm of flies.

What’s the story behind your first or favorite tattoo?

I don’t have a favorite tattoo and sadly my first tattoo’s story is honestly boring BUT I can tell you about my 3rd tattoo. It’s a stick and poke of a toy frog that I’d won in a claw machine. I got it while in Toronto on tour sitting in the back bench of our van.

What artists keep you from flipping the channel on the radio?

Lady Gaga, Rihanna, any classic rock basically.

What’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

Back in 2017 we did a short tour with Big Thief. This was when they were still playing like ~200 capacity venues and it was our first time really getting to know them. On the day of our Washington DC show, my drummer’s mini van overheated and started breaking down right as we were approaching the venue. After the show, at like 1 or 2 AM, all of Big Thief stayed behind at the venue to help us diagnose the car. Buck is really good with cars and looked under the hood and told us exactly what was wrong and what to tell the mechanic to do. Not only did they do that but they also handed us a wad of cash for the repair. True angels.

What’s one piece of advice you’d go back in time to give to your 18-year-old self?

Come out as gay already it’ll be worth it!!

What’s the last show you went to?

Goo album release show at Union Pool. You gotta check out their new record, it’s awesome.

What movie can you not resist watching when it’s on TV?

Any of the Star Wars.

What’s one of your hidden talents?

I can spin a basketball on my finger for like 4 seconds.

Eye On The Bat is out 7/14 via Polyvinyl. Find more information here.

The Sex Scene In ‘Fear’ Helped Inspire Reese Witherspoon To Be An ‘Agent For Change’ For Women In Hollywood

If you remember one thing about 1996’s otherwise-forgotten Fear, it’s the scene where Reese Witherspoon orgasms while riding a roller coaster with Mark Wahlberg. It was not only a seminal moment for many who saw the thriller, it also helped inspire Witherspoon to be an “agent for change.”

“I didn’t have control over it,” Witherspoon, who requested a stunt double for the below-the-waist moments, told Harper’s Bazaar. “It wasn’t explicit in the script that that’s what was going to happen, so that was something that I think the director thought of on his own and then asked me on set if I would do it, and I said no. It wasn’t a particularly great experience.”

Witherspoon said she’s “certainly not traumatized” by the scene, which she filmed when she was 19 years old, but “it was formative. It made me understand where my place was in the pecking order of filmmaking. I think It’s another one of those stories that made me want to be an agent for change and someone who maybe can be in a better leadership position to tell stories from a female perspective instead of from the male gaze.”

The Election actress formed the Hello Sunshine production company in 2016.

Emmy-Nominated ‘Barry’ Star Anthony Carrigan Has Already Been Swooped Up By James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’

Coming in hot from his recent Emmy nomination, Barry star Anthony Carrigan has already been snatched up by James Gunn for the DC Studios chief’s highly anticipated take on the Man of Steel, Superman: Legacy.

Joining David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as Superman and Lois Lane, Carrigan will reportedly play the DC Comics character Metamorpho. The actor was a fan-favorite on Barry as NoHo Hank, a role that scored him a 2023 Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, so it’ll be interesting to see how Carrigan portrays the lesser known hero who’s been bouncing around the DC Universe since the 1960s.

Via The Hollywood Reporter:

Metamorpho, created by Bob Haney and Ramona Fradon in 1965, can transmute elements in his body into various forms, taking those properties on as powers. After first being an archeologist, his abilities set him on the path of heroism. He later became a detective and a founding member of the supergroup known as the Outsiders. The wonky look and abilities of the character seem to reflect Gunn’s well-established love for off-center characters, whom he finds unique ways to highlight and who go on to be scene-stealers or emotional cores.

Carrigan’s casting arrives shortly after reports that Nathan Fillion has also joined the cast of Superman: Legacy as the Green Lantern Corps most obnoxious member, Guy Gardner. Vanity Fair first reported Fillion’s casting as well as Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl.

Superman: Legacy flies into theaters on July 11, 2025.

Coco Jones Announced A Remix For ‘ICU’ And Left A Riddle For The Guest Artist Which Fans May Have Solved

Coco Jones is having one hell of a year. It started with the deluxe release of her EP, What I Didn’t Tell You, a project that originally arrived to close 2022. Months later, Jones would go on to win the Best New Artist award at the 2023 BET Awards, an honor that solidified the hard work and journey she endured in her music career over the years. Next up will be the What I Didn’t Tell You Tour which kicks off next month, but before that, Jones has a surprise for her fans.

The singer hopped on Twitter to announce that a remix of “ICU” with a special guest would arrive on Friday, July 14. Instead of revealing the guest artist, Jones shared three images as a clue for who the remix would feature. The first was a crying emoji over a hand-drawn river, the second was a screengrab from The All-New Mickey Mouse Club, and the third was a montage of various boy bands like *NSYNC, 5ive, Boyzone, and Boyz II Men.

With all the clues at hand, many users concluded that the guest artist on the song is none other than Justin Timberlake. The “Cry Me A River” singer (hint #1) was an actor on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club from 1993-1994 and he was also a member of *NSYNC from 1995 to 2002.

Jones has yet to confirm that Timberlake is the guest artist on the “ICU” remix, but fans were quick to share their reaction to the possibility of it happening. You can check those out below.

Who Are The Openers For Playboi Carti’s ‘Antagonist Tour?’

A few days ago, there were rumors that Playboi Carti was getting ready to announce a tour, rumors prompted by billboard that had popped up. The rumors have been confirmed now, as today (July 12), the rapper announced he’s embarking on the Antagonist Tour. But who is he taking with him?

Carti has a few openers who will join him on the trek, all from his Opium Collective. One of them is Destroy Lonely, an Atlanta rapper who has spent the past few years building buzz with a series of mixtapes. That built up to If Looks Could Kill, his debut album from May that managed a debut at No. 18 on the Billboard 200 chart. (The album was also one of Uproxx’s most anticipated releases of this past spring.) The single “If Looks Could Kill” also made it onto the hip-hop charts.

Also joining the tour is Ken Carson, another Atlanta rapper who found some TikTok fame in late 2022 thanks to a dance to the song that was popularized by folks like Rico Nasty. Then there’s Homixide Gang, who are fresh off performing at Wireless Festival this past weekend. Their latest album, Snot Or Not, just dropped in April.

Check out the upcoming tour dates here.
