Ted Cruz Trying To Pull Off A Zodiac Killer ‘Joke’ Is Almost As Cringeworthy As His Attempted Cancun Jokes

Barbie rager Ted Cruz doesn’t let social media punches affect him much. However, he recently let slip that the Cancun jokes do bother him a little bit, but Ted should never expect to live down that sunny vacation during a deadly ice storm in his home state. As well, Ted has attempted to joke about Cancun on his own, and he was swiftly reminded that he can’t get away with it, but the rest of humanity can keep telling ’em.

Of course, there’s another long-running Ted Cruz joke from the very bizarre time that was 2016. During the GOP primary race, people started making the (very funny) case that Ted could be the Zodiac Killer. Ted actually did think this was amusing, and he hasn’t forgotten, but still, Ted is not as good at making Ted jokes as he would believe.

Fast forward to 2023, and the Las Vegas PD has moved on a search warrant related to the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur, and that’s certainly a trip down memory lane. In response to a tweet from the New York Times, Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson couldn’t resist a bit of a groaner: “To this day, we still don’t know where Ted Cruz was that fateful night.”

Ted had his own groaner in response: “First I was the Zodiac, now I killed Tupac?”

Again, yeah, Ted is not great at making Ted Cruz jokes, but at least this is better than him losing it over the Barbie movie. Although that might happen today, too. You never know!

ASAP Rocky Hints At Marriage With Rihanna Again On His New Song ‘Riot (Rowdy Pipe’n)’

ASAP Rocky has been busy with a pregnant Rihanna as well as working on his new album. About the latter, he said in January, “It’s coming. It’s finished and we just putting the finishing touches on it.”

He’s back with “Riot (Rowdy Pipe’n),” his first new song of the year. The exhilarating song adds to rumors that he and Rihanna are in fact married: “My wife is erotic, I’m smokin’ exotic,” he raps.

At a Spotify Beach performance in June, the rapper dedicated “DMB” to Rihanna, saying “my beautiful wife in the motherf**king building! I love her.” Also, at the end of Rocky’s “DMB” video from last year, his grills read “Marry Me?” while Rihanna’s grills read, “I do.”

ASAP Rocky discussed fatherhood in December of last year. “Honestly, I think fatherhood gives me more time to do exactly what I want,” he said. “I don’t have time for anything that isn’t priorities. It helps you prioritize, honestly. I love it. Everything is just based around my newfound love for being a dad and a family man. It’s lit right now. I can’t even describe it. Yo, you see this smile! I’m all smiles right now, man.”

‘Mayans M.C.’ Star J.D. Pardo Talks Us Through A Series Finale More Shattering Than ‘Sons Of Anarchy’

(Obviously, spoilers will be found in this finale post-mortem interview, so don’t yell at me, man.)

Mayhem (even the equivalent of Mr. Mayhem from Sons Of Anarchy) was to be expected to make a final visit in the Mayans M.C. finale. I recently stated the obvious (while noting the death of Hope) and declaring, “[O]ne can expect any final season in this universe to go down with several gut-wrenching, ultra-jarring deaths.” And we sure got them. The final act went down with merciless execution that felt fated to happen.

Heck, the flagship FX series ended with Jax Teller driving straight into a Mack Truck, so it stands to reason that J.D. Pardo’s EZ probably wouldn’t get out alive, either. Of course, this had to happen in a novel way, and it did, with Bishop receiving the tip-off that EZ was “the rat.” So, the club had won the war against the Sons Samdino chapter, and the Mayans patched in Nestor. Everyone was cheering and happy, and the sh*t hit the proverbial fan when Bishop turned on a dime against EZ. The Mayans took turns (and even Angel was forced to go there) stabbing EZ (RIP), and later, as Bishop sat at the head of the table again, the ATF descended upon the building. This was an intense few minutes. I assume that none of the members got out alive, other than Angel, who we later see at the beach with his M.C. tattoos covered up.

Who else made it out alive? Not too many from the original ensemble, but Alvarez and Letty (good news) and Potter (bad news) lived and overall, this finale’s body count was huge. It was a little jarring to witness, especially after how quickly the mood switched during EZ’s death scene. There were a lot of loose ends to tie up, perhaps too many for a finale, but fortunately, J.D. Pardo was once again willing to help me cope with the fallout as a viewer.

J.D. hopped on the phone with me prior to the start of the SAG/AFTRA strike due to last-minute technical difficulties that prevented Zooming, and that’s probably for the best. After all, my habitual ice-breaker of donning a Sons Of Anarchy tank when Zooming with an actor from this franchise (Clayton Cardenas, Charlie Hunnam) would not have been the smartest move this season after the war between clubs.

Heyyy Kimberly.

Hi J.D. Oh, it sounds like one of my dogs says hello, too.

Oh, tell your dog I said hello!

She loves that biker drama. And thank you for doing this with a strike about to be called at any hour, it must be chaotic.

You are welcome. Thanks for having me.

Of course, we are talking because I watched the finale.

Ooooh, what did you think?

My mouth was hanging open for several minutes after it was over. I need a little therapy session, if you don’t mind.

Ahhh yes… too bad we have to do this over the phone then.

Before I forget to mention this: the last time we talked, we were joking around about who you would like as a guest from Sons Of Anarchy, and you thought, even though it wasn’t possible, that Jax would be perfect. Yet in the penultimate episode, you got the next best thing: Wendy. That was a really beautiful scene.

Oh thank you so much. It was great to have her. It felt good. Anytime an actor from the Sons would come onto set, it felt great, and it elevated us, we were all very excited about it. And I was very excited to have that scene with Wendy because of her history and her relationship with Jax. I just thought, especially for the audience, it was gonna be so cool for them to see Wendy and EZ together, and her sort-of talking about life.

Now, about that finale and your death scene. I felt like EZ maybe sacrificed himself for Angel by not fighting death. I also couldn’t tell if he was relieved that it was his time to go, so that was why he was smiling?

You know, that’s an interesting take on it. For me, it was that EZ has known for a long time that death was coming for him. And it wasn’t a matter of if, it was just a matter of when. And for this season with EZ, it was sort-of this ticking clock. Could he finish what he started before he’s killed? There were moments in there that I wanted to sprinkle in, which were moments of “I know I’m gonna die, it’s coming, but like, maybe it doesn’t have to? Maybe there’s hope. Maybe I can be out of this.”

I’m pretty sure that EZ was doomed all along, for sure.

Even with that scene with Creeper, when EZ has Creeper killed inside prison, it wasn’t a moment of “let me see if I can, you know, not meet my end, let me see if I can sort-of get ahead of this, and they won’t discover me, and I won’t die.” It was truly a moment of “EZ loved Creeper, and he loved Creeper all the way through.” It wasn’t anything about hate. It was that EZ, which we all know, is so driven to finish his mission. And his mission was to put that Mayans on top. To finish Isaac. To put themselves above the Sons, and nothing, not not another Mayan, was going to get ahead of that and prevent that from happening. So for us, that end scene with EZ was just the realization, that was where the smile came from. “Oh, it’s now. Death is coming now.” It was something that EZ welcomed because we discussed, many times, Elgin [James] and I, that EZ died when his mother died.

What you just said reminds me of a tweet, which you retweeted, that I was going to bring up. A Mr. “SadCowboysFan,” wrote this: “[T]he kid in Ezekiel died in the meat shop with his mother.”

Yes!

And “He grew up in prison and the man Ezekiel died with Gaby and all that was left was EZ, Mayan.” That person nailed it.

They did, and I was like, “Oh finally, someone hit the nail right on the head.” That’s exactly what happened with EZ. And it was sort-of my secret, throughout all of it: EZ looks forward to death. So, it’s something that we really discovered and talked about. It’s why EZ runs into the fights and doesn’t run away from them. It’s why he can throw his body into a gunfight because he welcomes it. He wants to. Because at the end of the day, death is where he’ll have peace because he’ll be with his mother. And there are these moments where he can feel that way. He can think about that and be okay with it, but I think that what scares us all, is that even if you’re okay with death, is the physical act of death gonna be painful? And I that’s where some of his fear came from is that “it’s scary, is it gonna hurt?” And then going into “how is it gonna come?” And so yeah, in that moment, it’s just, “Oh, it’s right now, and I’m ready.”

And that’s such a contrast from earlier, when EZ killed Isaac Packer, who was crawling along the sidewalk and attempting to escape. He pleaded, “I’m not ready. This can’t be it,” or something to that effect.

Right, exactly. It is the exact opposite of that, and it shows you that one was ready for death, and the other wasn’t.

Another thing about that scene. I was struck by them being in the alley, and EZ shooting Isaac, and there were all these cars driving by in the immediate background like nothing was out of the ordinary.

Right, right! [Laughs]

I once asked Clayton [Cardenas] about that sort of thing, like when EZ killed Gaby, and the police simply didn’t show up, and Clayton had a spot-on response about how that’s just the life that they lead.

Right. And you know what I loved about those moments is that sometimes, it almost felt like all of this was happening in a world of its own, right?

That also says a lot about life, in and of itself.

Like all these things would happen, and life was moving on, with those cars in the background, and here’s this scene between Isaac and EZ and the shooting, the killing. And it’s almost as if the world is not disturbed, and in a weird way, I really love that. It just shows, so much of this is intimate, and it really felt like… this war, between these two clubs, is very serious and very big, and yet, in the whole grand scheme of it all, it’s very minor.

Alright, so what did you think about Bishop making that dig before his turn at stabbing EZ? He said something like, “You’re not the only one who reads Shakespeare, motherf*cker.” That’s possibly the most brutal thing about that scene. It clawed so deep.

Yeah, I think there were two parts to that. Like me, as J.D., when I heard that, I was like, “Awww, I just wanna pick you and start rag-dolling you all over the set.” Because it is, it’s a very spiteful thing to say. Especially after he’s been stabbed. But you know, that’s the story, and that’s Bishop. And that’s how Bishop feels. And he’s gonna make a dig at EZ before he stabs him, and at this point, EZ was gonna get hit with all of it. Elgin had this point where he wanted my body to fall, if you think about a few episodes prior where Felipe and EZ are in the church, and they’re staring up at the cross of Jesus. And that’s really, in a way, EZ looking at his own death. Looking at himself. And Elgin really wanted to make sure that after EZ got stabbed, that he fell with his arms out like the position of Jesus on the cross. And so, in that moment, these characters are stabbing him, and Bishop says something, and EZ’s taking all of it. All of the consequences, all of the love from his brother, and betrayal from others and anger from Bishop, he’s taking all of it. He’s soaking all of it in.

Do you think that people are going to see a Jax reference, too? You’ve been very upfront about pointing out that Jax and EZ are nearly opposites of each other, but do you think people will think about Jax driving into a truck with his arms in the shape of a cross, too?

I’m sure some people will pick up on that. And that’s awesome. Listen, I love that stuff, and when I pick up on things, and I see it, and I can tie it into another piece or another element, that excites me. I feel like I’m a part of this club that knows something that others don’t. And that’s the beauty of what we do. Everybody has their own interpretation, and for those that pick that up, that’s awesome, and I love it.

The fandom seems much more united than other groups that can be toxic. Most fans of Mayans are really fans.

Yeah, it’s really great. I love the social media interaction, you know, and hearing all of it from people. Whether it’s love, support, or hate. Whatever it is, I will tap into that, and I know a lot of it is about playing and interaction, so I’ll play with them. I’ll go in there and play and say things and get their reaction from it, and it’s just all a part of the fandom. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them, and even the ones who want to hate on it, you know, they’re hating on it, but they still watch it.

Also, you directed an episode for the first time this season. I don’t know how you balanced that with your heavy load this season already.

You know, it was heavy. I don’t think that I got any sleep during that time with everything that I was doing. And I was in so much pain from the stunt scenes before and after, but I love it. I love all of it. And I think that what I learned… you know, as an actor, you can become very selfish, and rightfully so, you have to be with your character because that’s what you’re responsible for. As a director, you’re responsible for all of it, and I found myself in this space of really being a champion for everybody, all the actors, and wanting to help them to be at their best. And so, as a director, to listen to all the departments and having them take ownership of their department and give their feedback of what they think should happen — they’re all masters. I was surrounded by masters, so I just really want to take it all in. I absolutely love storytelling, and that’s what directing is. You’re telling the story.

‘Mayans M.C.’s full five seasons aired on FX and can now be streamed on Hulu.

‘Wheel Of Fortune’s Vanna White Reportedly Got A ‘Partial Raise,’ But She’s Still Not Making Half Of What Pat Sajak Gets Paid

Vanna White has been (reportedly) aggressively negotiating her first Wheel of Fortune raise in 18 years, and well, it’s been a process. Following the announcement that longtime host Pat Sajak is leaving the classic game show, White’s future on the show has been a question mark as producers quickly locked down Ryan Seacrest as the new host. According to reports, White’s pay has been significantly lower than Sajak’s, and she’s not having much luck trying to negotiate her way to just half of what he makes.

However, White has made some headway. TMZ reports that she managed to secure a raise for Celebrity Wheel of Fortune. White will now make $100,000 per episode, which is a “meaningful bump.” However, Sajak makes $400,000 an episode, so White clearly didn’t hit her mark of making half of his pay.

As for the main show, White’s quest for a raise isn’t looking so hot. Via TMZ:

Our sources say Friedman asked Sony to use a third party who knows the game show space to evaluate Pat and Vanna’s roles and importance on the show, and then come up with a “fair figure.” We’re told Sony turned thumbs down to that request.

We’re told one of the problems … Sony believes they ended up paying Pat too much and they don’t want to use his salary for comparability. Apparently, that hasn’t sat well with Team Vanna.

Sony is also reportedly dragging its feet because White’s Wheel of Fortune contract still has a year left. But if the studio doesn’t “get more serious,” a TMZ source says the situation is “gonna get ugly.”

Kim Kardashian Regrets Jumping Into A Relationship With Pete Davidson ‘So Fast’ After Her Divorce From Kanye West

Kim Kardashian reflected on her divorce from Kanye West, and her subsequent relationship with Pete Davidson, on the latest episode of The Kardashians. Speaking with her sisters Kylie and Kendall Jenner, the SKIMS founder said, “I definitely jumped into another relationship so fast. It got my mind away from stuff and that’s not a way to run from things.”

Kardashian has no remorse about her time with West (or Davidson, presumably). “I’m not going to take every experience and bad thing that happened to me and carry that into my life,” she said. “What am I supposed to be learning from this? How is this going to make me a better person?”

This is what she should be asking herself, re: Tom Brady.

On last week’s episode, the mom of four broke down in front of her sister Khloé over Kanye’s outbursts.

“It sucks when someone doesn’t see how different they are,” she explained. “I always will [keep looking for that person.] You’ll always hope you’ll see a glimpse of them, and I hope I do.” Kardashian continued, “I feel so bad for him. I don’t even think he feels bad for himself because I don’t even think he knows how,” revealing that she hasn’t spoken to Kanye about his antisemitic online rants over fears “he’ll probably go off on me.”

The Kardashians, which wraps up for the season next week, airs on Hulu.

Mitt Romney Made An Utterly Bizarre Video For His ‘Favorite Meat’ On National Hot Dog Day

Did you know yesterday was National Hot Dog Day? Mitt Romney did, and he celebrated by holding a hot dog like an absolute weirdo.

“Well, as you all know, today is National Hot Dog Day and perhaps you also know that hot dog is my favorite meat,” the Ted Lasso-loving senator said in a bizarre video where he’s walking down the halls of Congress while clutching a hot dog and wearing a weiner hat. “I love hot dogs. I love ’em in buns, I love ’em outside of buns, I love ’em with baked beans, I just like hot dogs. It’s the best, you know, best meat there is, without question.”

We get it. Mitt is like a wife guy, but for hot dogs. A hot dog guy.

He continued, “So to all of you who like me are celebrating National Hot Dog Day, congratulations to you and may there be many, many more hot dogs served in our wonderful land.”

Romney’s walk-and-talk video (Sorkin could never) wasn’t the weirdest thing to happen in Washington D.C. on Wednesday — Marjorie Taylor Greene showing images of Hunter Biden having sex with a prostitute during an oversight committee hearing takes the cake — but it’s still plenty odd. “I’ve never seen someone look so out of place holding a hot dog and wearing a baseball cap,” Twitter user @Joe_Roberts01 wrote, while @mynameisntdave tweeted, “He didn’t even take a bite of the hot dog. He’s just… holding it.”

Jamie Loftus, who literally wrote the book on hot dogs, added:

Travis Barker Is Considering A Pretty Out-There Baby Name For His And Kourtney Kardashian’s Upcoming Child

A few weeks ago, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker teased that he and Kourtney Kardashian have chosen a name for their forthcoming baby. Whether or not the couple has actually settled on a final name, a new video shows off Barker’s thought process, and it’s definitely interesting.

In a new episode of Complex’s video series GOAT Talk with Barker and his daughter Alabama Barker, the final question is, “GOAT baby name?” Alabama had a few answers ready off the top of her head: “Audemars, Milan, f*ckin’ Patek.” Travis chimed in, “I like Rocky 13.”

With a laugh, Alabama replied, “That’s so bad!” Travis continued, “That’s this name that’s just been going in my head lately. It is, it is bad. Rocky George played guitar for Suicidal Tendencies, and 13 is just the greatest number of all time.”

A stunned Alabama said, “So you’re going to name your kid ‘Rocky 13?’” Travis replied, “Possibly.” Alabama ribbed, “Let’s see how this goes when he’s at school: ‘Rocky… 13.’” Travis added, “And Rocky, the greatest boxing movie of all time.”

Meanwhile, Travis and Kourtney recently had a baby sex reveal and it was pretty on-brand.

ABC Just Aired A Performance Of Jason Aldean’s ‘Try That In A Small Town’ For A Concert Special And Talk About Bad Timing

Jason Aldean has been one of country music’s biggest stars for the past couple decades, but now the spotlight is on him for a not-so-great reason. His recent single “Try That In A Small Town” and the song’s newly released video have come under fire for being allegedly racist and pro-violence. Regardless, a concert performance of the song was just included in last night’s (July 19) CMA Fest concert special on ABC.

The performance was recorded at CMA Fest, which was held at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium from June 8 to 11, so well before the song’s controversial video was released. In light of everything, though, reactions have been mixed.

One Twitter user wrote, “Shame on @ABCNetwork, @CountryMusic, @cmafoundation & @BBRMusicGroup for continuing to promote a Jason Aldean song that clearly glorifies & encourages vigilante justice against outsiders in small towns.” Another said, “Booo @ABCNetwork @Disney for not cutting Jason Aldean’s performance at CMA Fest… get this racist piece of sh*t off my tv.” Somebody else wrote, “Honestly CMA fest allowing disgusting @Jason_Aldean to still perform is g r o s s.”

Then, there were those standing up for Aldean and ABC, like one user who tweeted, “Cancel culture club scrambling about right now. Tryna cancel ABC and CMA for allowing Jason Aldean to play “Try That In A Small Town”. Wway to go @Jason_Aldean !!#cmafest.” Another wrote, “Ha ha. Jason Aldean just played Try that in a small town on the CMA fest on woke Disney owned abc!!!”

Issa Rae Would Trust Megan Thee Stallion With Her Life Story, Literally

It seems like everybody is being roped into the Barbie promotional cycle, so why not Megan Thee Stallion? Issa Rae and her Barbie co-stars sat down for a chat with Vanity Fair. They easily guessed Margot Robbie’s favorite reality television show, but there were some hiccups before correctly guessing who Rae would choose to have rap or sing a theme song about her life.

Barbie director Greta Gerwig and America Ferrera immediately called out that Rae should do it herself. (Robbie agreed.)

“I feel like you guys are convincing me of that fact, but I’m not a good rapper,” Rae said.

Robbie asked Rae to specify whether the artist was alive, and Rae confirmed, “They’re alive. They’re popping.” When Ferrera proposed Ice Spice, Rae looked utterly perplexed. “America, no,” she said. Nicki Minaj was suggested by Robbie after a fit of collective laughter, and Rae was more receptive to that — “That’s a good choice; I wouldn’t be mad” — but she and Cardi B both earned a no.

Finally, Gerwig landed on Megan Thee Stallion. Leave it to the director.

@vanityfair

Please allow #IssaRae to choose her own theme song. Prior to the #SAGAFTRA strike, the cast of #Barbie sat down with VF to test how well they know each other. #MargotRobbie #AmericaFerrera #GretaGerwig #nickiminaj

The Barbie soundtrack boasts the likes of Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj, as their “Barbie World” single with Aqua debuted within the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this month. Maybe there’s a world where a deluxe version of Barbie: The Album arrives in the future with Megan Thee Stallion added to the tracklist.
