Drake Gave A Heartfelt Speech Explaining Why LeBron James Is His ‘Brother’ During An LA Concert

Drake and 21 Savage continued their It’s All A Blur Tour in Los Angeles over the weekend — and keeping with the trend of bringing surprise guests. While Kendall Jenner and SZA have already popped up at past LA dates, the recent celebs had the crowd going wild.

None other than LeBron James and his son Bronny (who is doing “great” after his recent health scare) joined the rappers on stage. On the way through the crowd to get there, Drake also signed a fan’s copy of his poetry book. The Toronto performer was also paying tribute by wearing the Lakers colors.

Then, when Drake was on stage, he gave a heartfelt speech to LeBron. “The gentleman that walked me to stage tonight is my brother,” he said. “In 2009, when nobody believed in anything I had going on, that same guy showed up to a release party for a mixtape that was called So Far Gone.”

“He came all the way to Toronto, Canada to support me, when I was trying to figure out how I can live my dreams,” Drake added.

Drake and LeBron have continued to stay close for a while. Back in 2018, he appeared on an episode of LeBron’s HBO series, The Shop, where he opened up about his son, Adonis, and the two dads bonded over raising their kids.

A few years later in 2020, Drake went with LeBron to watch Bronny play at his high school basketball game. “My young demons doing numbers,” Drake posted when Bronny’s team won, according to HotNewHipHop.

This makes the fact that LeBron brought his son to Drake’s show all the more special.

Slow Pulp’s ‘Broadview’ Single Is A Tenderly Guided Approach To Opening Your Heart Back Up To Love

Anticipation for Slow Pulp’s sophomore album, Yard, is at an all-time high. So far, the band has shared three records from the project, including “Cramps,” “Slugs,” and “Doubt.” But their latest single, “Broadview,” is the Chicago-based act’s most emotionally moving release.

The track, produced by the band’s guitarist Henry Stoehr, is a tenderly guided approach to opening your heart back up to love. As bassist Alex Leeds and drummer Teddy Mathews layer their indie instrumental offerings, musicians Peter Briggs and Willie Christianson incorporate Americana elements through their harmonica and banjo flares.

Lead vocalist Emily Massey drives home the delicate nature of the record, singing, “Am I wrong? / Or is it OK to stay inside / And out of love? / Tell me I’m wrong / I’m just gonna give it a try / And hope that it’s enough.”

In a statement, Massey opened up about the inspiration behind the track, saying, “This song is about letting yourself fall in love for the first time in a long time. After being hurt in previous relationships, I was trying to decide if making the jump was worth it. Turns out it was.”

Lead singer of heavy metal band ‘Disturbed’ comforts upset child in the middle of concert

Most people remember their first concert. Mine was TLC and Boyz 2 Men, and no, I’m not talking about their comeback tour. It was the 90s and I almost broke my leg trying to climb over folding seats in the pouring rain trying to get under the venue’s awning. Pretty sure we only had lawn seats and were probably breaking some sort of law climbing to better seats.

Either way, going to a concert can be an exhilarating experience but it can also be a bit overwhelming. Everything’s loud. The music. The people. Everything. When you’re a child, not yet old enough to head off to a concert with friends, it can be even more overstimulating than it is for adults.

One little girl found herself feeling a bit upset while attending a concert with her parents for the heavy metal band “Disturbed.” But it was what happened when the lead singer noticed the frightened girl that’s melting hearts across the internet.

The lead singer, David Draiman, could’ve just continued the show, not giving the upset child a second thought. Instead he went to comfort her across the barricade, speaking directly to her through the microphone he was still holding.

“I’m very proud of you. You’re awesome,” Draiman says before reassuring the girl. “It’s okay, baby, it’s ok. I didn’t mean to scare you.”

With every calm affirming sentence the crowd cheers. Draiman then stands on what appears to be a step on the barricade and addresses the audience.

“I love that Disturbed concerts have become a family affair. I love it,” the singer says. “And this little girl has been singing her heart out the entire show. She knows so many of the songs.”

Judging by the comments, the band is known for being kind.

“And they’re not kidding. Every single disturbed show we’ve been to made us tear up. They’re the best band I’ve seen live. Love them,” one fan writes.

“I was there. It was my first time seeing Disturbed in concert but it was definitely the most accepting and uplifting concert I’ve ever been to,” another person says.

“As a long time Disturbed fan this is unsurprising but wonderful in equal measure. They have always held such wonderful inclusive values,” someone writes.

What a beautifully kind moment caught on video showing everyone that kindness goes a long way. Watch the sweet interaction below.

Everyone who comes to a Disturbed concert is welcome and accepted and loved 🖤 #disturbed #takebackyourlifetour #livemusic #familyaffair #inclusive #rock #metal #weareone #united #humanity

A Security Guard Who Went Viral At Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ Claims He Was Later Fired From The Venue

A few weeks ago at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, a security guard named Calvin Denker who was working at the Minnesota venue went viral after he was singing along to “Cruel Summer.” However, he has now shared that he’s since been fired.

In a new TikTok video, Denker talked about what happened after the viral moment. He revealed that he applied for the job purely to (hopefully) work at one of Swift’s Eras Tour dates. However, while BEST, the security company, didn’t mind him singing along, he was fired for reportedly passing notes to the crowd asking for them to take a photo when she was in the background.

“The HR woman who called me wasn’t able to articulate what exactly I did wrong because I didn’t do anything beyond asking for photos,” Denker said.

Denker also pushes back because although the company rule prohibits employees to take pictures on the job, he points out that he didn’t do it himself. The official removal happened from Ed Sheeran’s concert on August 12, according to NME.

“I never took my own phone out, and above all else I made sure that Taylor Swift was safe, and all the fans had a good time,” he added.

Still, he made it clear that he holds “no grudges” about the firing.

Drew Barrymore Praised Reneé Rapp’s ‘Sexiness’ After She Escorted Her Off Stage During A Scary Incident

Drew Barrymore was escorted off stage during an event on Monday night after she was approached by a man demanding to speak to her.

The incident took place at New York’s 92nd Street Y during a conversation between actress and singer Reneé Rapp and The Drew Barrymore Show host. E! Online reports that an audience member yelled out Barrymore’s name, to which she replied, “Oh my god, yes, hi!” But things took a turn when the man walked up to the stage. “You know who I am,” he said as Rapp and Barrymore walked backstage for their safety. “I need to see you at some point while you’re in New York.”

Drew — who has not yet publicly addressed the incident — was at the 92Y event to discuss Reneé’s debut LP Snow Angel, which was just released on Aug. 18. And although the duo swiftly exited the stage, audience members confirmed they returned to finish their chat. “Both handled it like bosses,” journalist McKenzie Morrell wrote on Twitter, “and recovered quickly to continue an awesome conversation.”

Once it was safe to do so, Barrymore and Rapp resumed their conversation. “Well, I have a new definition of your sexiness, it’s that level of protectiveness,” Barrymore said. “That went full Bodyguard. You are my Kevin Costner!” You can watch footage of the incident below.

Neill Blomkamp Wants To Talk About ‘Gran Turismo,’ But Only ‘Gran Turismo‘

A couple of things I want to make clear. One, I actually really liked Gran Turismo, despite how this interview went. Second, this is not how I would have preferred this interview turned out. Even now I’m not entirely sure what happened, but I think I might have hit a nerve with Blomkamp I wasn’t really even looking for. (This is the fourth time I’ve interviewed Blomkamp, going all the way back to District 9, and nothing like this has happened before.)

Gran Turismo is based (liberally) on the real-life story of Jann Mardenborough (played by Archie Madekwe) whose talents at playing Gran Turismo leads to an invitation to a racing academy to be trained by the gruff yet all-knowing former driver Jack Salter (David Harbour). And once the actual racing in Gran Turismo starts, it’s pretty thrilling.

Though, with Blomkamp, I was curious what he thinks, now, about the success of District 9 – Blomkamp’s first movie, which wound up with four Oscar nominations including Best Picture. I was wondering if he feels his other films, fairly or unfairly, were held up against the success of District 9. And this topic of discussion was going fine, until it wasn’t. To the point Blomkamp just kind of shut down and the publicist on the line suggested we end it and, by that point, I wholeheartedly agreed that was a good idea.

One of my first interviews ever was with you for District 9, many years ago now…

Yeah. That’s awesome. I generally am always down with anything to do with Uproxx ever since it was the only good Chappie review, so I’m stoked.

Oh right, I interviewed you for Chappie, but didn’t write that review…

For sure. For sure. But I mean, yeah, I’m just undying love.

I saw Gran Turismo pretty early and didn’t realize this was based on a true story. I’m assuming that aspect was appealing to you.

That was super appealing. I mean, when Sony offered this film to me. It made no sense how you could make a film out of Gran Turismo. I mean, I basically had no interest, really. And then it was absolutely insane when I read it – that the two things that were fascinating was, one of them, was how the game was within the world of the story, that I was going to film was presented realistically. So it’s a video game inside the real world. It’s sort of Facebook in The Social Network, you’re viewing it from outside of itself.

And then the second thing was this kind of biographical angle of Mardenborough that grounded it and just made it completely real feeling. And those two things instantly changed my sort of perception of what the film was. And it was like, Oh, okay. I could definitely do something with this.

At first, I was confused about how you make a movie based on Gran Turismo. I think people are going to be surprised by what this actually is…

It needs to be as clear as possible that it really is basically like a biographical story where Gran Turismo played a role in this person’s life. And yeah, I totally agree, the more that people know that, the better.

Did you actually play this game? Did you know much about it before this came to you?

Yeah, I mean, 100 percent knew about it. I wouldn’t play it as much as, say, someone like my brother. When I say I love cars, I mean, the car itself, I’ve never really been that into racing. It’s the machinery and the artistry around cars that I love. So I knew a lot about it. Again, it just made no sense when they were like, “Hey, do you want to direct the Gran Turismo film?” It was like, “What are you talking about?”

I had the PS2 version. I thought it would be like Pole Position, let’s just start racing. And then it’s like you have to earn credits to buy a spark plug so your car will run correctly. It’s a pretty intense and difficult game.

I mean, I think one of the things that’s really awesome about Gran Turismo, and one of the reasons that I think initially Kazunori Yamauchi faced difficulty getting it financed was, and it’s what made it sell, was this idea of taking average cars that you could race on world-famous racetracks. It’s such a cool idea. I want to race my Honda Civic. I want to see how my Civic does against an Integra.

You said earlier it never occurred to you that you’d ever do a racing movie or a sports movie. Once you agree, do you go back and watch something like Days Of Thunder? Tony Scott pulled off some pretty good race scenes.

I never seemed to reference other movies when I’m making a film. So there was an homage that I did in this film that was a sort of tip of the hat to Steve McQueen’s Le Mans, just because it felt like I was making something that was a racing film and I liked being in the lineage of racing movies. And watching Le Mans – which I watched while we were filming – it had this awesome introduction with the way that he pushes in on the faces of each of the races before the beginning of the race. And I did an active homage to that. But outside of that, there are none…

Well, that’s a pretty big one. That’s not nothing.

But what I will say is that I’m obsessed with drones and radio-controlled helicopters, and I fly a lot of FPV drones myself, but I also love watching the competitive FPV stuff online, and it’s translated into a lot of real-world sports.

It took me a second, but I didn’t realize at first that it was Geri Halliwell playing Jann Mardenborough’s mother. It’s the first time I’ve seen her play a role like this. And I thought she was terrific. And I’m curious how that even happened.

I know, I’m so stoked. It literally, 100000 percent, was based on her audition tape, plain and simple. For Jann’s character, there were so many young actors that I looked up, and then when I met Archie, I just knew that it was Archie immediately, but I still looked at 150 kids. And it was weirdly hard finding his mom. And I just got this tape from the costume directors and I watched it and I instantly was like, “This is his mom.” And I was happy with that from the moment onwards, working with her was awesome. Her performance was awesome. I did something in this film that suits District 9 more than this movie. And I’m not sure how many times this has happened in a major studio-release movie.

What happened?

In the scene where he’s speaking to her in FaceTime?

Right…

When he is lying on the couch?

Okay. Right after the wreck.

Yeah, so when he’s sitting there speaking to her, we hadn’t filmed her side of it yet. And I basically texted her from editorial months after we’d filmed it, and I was like, “Hey, I want to drop you into the video call. Can you just self-feed yourself with the video and just give me some versions? And I’ll choose my favorite version.” So then she gave me these recordings, and she just sent them to me on WhatsApp, and I was like, “Oh, this is pretty cool.” And then we just put them in the movie and locked the film. I don’t know if that’s really ever happened before, but it was much more of a District 9 approach. To use self-film footage of her. She was in London, probably just, “Okay, yeah. Let me just drop you some files.” It was kind of awesome. She’s very easy to work with, is my point.

So it doesn’t come up very often using some of the techniques you had to use in District 9 in your films after?

It’s not really a technique. It’s just raw. It’s a very unusual way to go about doing it in a film like this.

Speaking of District 9, can it be tough when your first movie is such a sensation? And I know, “Oh no, my movie’s a big hit” is not something that is used for sympathy. But what’s that like now, looking back, for that to happen to you at that point in your career?

Well, I think it was good. If you said to me, when I was 20, you would direct a film that has that response, I would’ve died happy. Because my goal is to just work on films that have an effect on people. And it’s difficult to make films that have that effect all the time, but you can definitely strive to try and do it. I think the originality and the unusualness of District 9 is something that stands the chance of failing as much as it stands the chance of working. And you have to be okay to experiment with stuff. I mean, Chappie‘s the same way. It’s like you have to be okay to go out and be willing to fail and throw yourself out there in order to try to do stuff that sometimes lands.

This was a few years ago, I talked to Sam Mendez, I think it was for Skyfall. His first movie was American Beauty and it won Best Picture. And this quote always stuck with me, “When it’s not successful, people still review your first picture when you make your second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth.” I’m just wondering if you feel that way.

Yeah, I guess so. But I mean, as time goes on, it’s probably less and less. But yeah, I just come back to the same thing where it’s like, I don’t see how doing the film that is influential at the time it comes out is negative in any way.

I would never think it’s negative. I just wonder if you get sick of hearing about it? I guess not. I wouldn’t get sick of hearing about it if I were you, but some people do.

It’s hard to answer. I don’t know. I need to take a second to think that through.

Okay, that’s fair.

Yeah, I don’t know. I don’t know. I guess I am tired of talking about it.

Oh, okay. Which, see, that serves two purposes. It answers the question, and then that’s a kind hint to talk about something else.

Yeah. I mean, I guess District 9 is positive and had a positive effect when it came out. Now let’s move on.

Alright, I saw Walter Hill came out recently and said Disney wants to go a different direction with Alien. I enjoyed the production designs you posted on Twitter…

It’s hard to define how little I care about what happens with Alien.

Okay. Well, I think you just defined it pretty well, just with that statement.

Yeah. So I guess I don’t want to talk about that either. I want to talk about Gran Turismo or we shouldn’t talk about…

Sorry, I didn’t hear that last part you said.

Let’s just focus on Gran Turismo.

Well, I mean, yeah, we did for 12 minutes. And I had more about it, too. We’re not done yet. Are you still there?

Yeah.

I did want to ask you about Mardenborough doing his own driving stunts? That’s a pretty cool thing.

Yeah.

Okay. I mean, I don’t know. What happened here?

Well, I mean, we were talking about Gran Turismo, which was interesting.

Right. And I liked the movie.

We’ve spoken about it enough. I guess you have enough info.

Well, no…

[The publicist chimes in that it might be time to end this interview.]

All right, cool. I think so, too. See you guys. Bye.

‘Gran Turismo’ opens nationwide on August 25th. You can contact Mike Ryan directly on Twitter.

James Harden Has Been Fined $100,000 By The NBA For Calling Daryl Morey A Liar And Demanding A Trade

James Harden and Daryl Morey were once as aligned as a star player and general manager could be, but after a decade of working together in Houston and now Philadelphia, their relationship has fractured completely.

Harden picked up his $35 million player option this summer and requested to be traded, but Morey has not been able to thread the needle of giving Harden the trade he wants and getting the Sixers enough back in return to keep them near the top of the East. The result has been a stalemate, with the Sixers stopping talks with the Clippers and planning on just bringing Harden back for camp. Harden has made clear he won’t just go along with that, and has made it his life’s work to make things as uncomfortable as possible in Philly.

Most recently, that included him ripping Morey at a kids camp in China, calling him a liar and insisting he’ll never play for an organization that Morey is running again. That sparked an NBA investigation into Harden’s comments, as the liar portion was assumed by many to be about a handshake deal from last summer after Harden took a pay cut to bring in P.J. Tucker and Danuel House Jr. However, Harden told the league that his comment was not about any agreement last year to pay him this year, but instead about Morey saying he’d trade him quickly.

That seems to have shifted the league’s eyes from Morey and back to Harden, with the star guard being handed a $100,000 fine by the league for issuing a “public trade demand” and saying he would “not perform the services called for under his player contract.”

It is pretty wild that after Harden’s comments and the NBA’s announced investigation many expected there to be some punishment headed the Sixers way if the league learned of some agreement between the two sides dating back to last summer that got broken. Instead, Harden was just really mad about not being traded yet and got himself the maximum allowable fine under the new CBA. This also comes after the league sent a memo warning players about issuing public trade demands after Damian Lillard and his agent made clear he wanted to be in Miami, which was a warning that was heeded by Lillard’s camp but apparently not by Harden.

Ted Cruz Got So Excited About Dragging Himself Over That Shark Meme That He Accidentally Tweeted Part Of A Text Conversation

I never thought I’d say this, but perhaps Ted Cruz should learn to be more like Lauren Boebert. When she gets dragged, she ignores it, and you know what? Good for her. Whereas Ted Cruz dives right back into the fray and rolls around in it. Maybe he likes the embarrassment? No clue. And even though Ted is an Internet expert (and has been since at least 2017), sometimes he still slips.

It happens, for sure. Yet no one, not even Ted, can fully explain why he fell for a notorious shark hoax that surfaces anytime a tropical cyclone floods part of a city (and generally arrives with Twitter community warnings). Ted is holding onto it, though, in his usual fashion while (I guess?) attempting to show the world what a good sport he is. This effort included retweeting a Dave Portnoy remark while adding, “Sharks have feelings too” for some odd reason.

Earlier this morning, Ted also tweeted and deleted a joke, which caused some confusion on my end because Ted usually does not delete. He generally lets it all hang out, but this time, he axed a phone screenshot that included a Twitter user’s joke: “Sharknado is a documentary.” Well, that joke resurfaced over here, but why did Ted delete the original?

Democratic advisor Sawyer Hackett nabbed a screenshot of what went down, and it seems that Ted accidentally captured and tweeted a text notification, which you can see here. It seems to be a rather mundane message, but maybe Ted realized that dragging political consultants into the shark mess was a step too far. Fortunately, this was an innocuous text revealed by Ted, but still, eek. He could always, you know, tweet less, and then this might not happen at all.

Kesha’s NSFW Photo Shows That The Singer’s Music Isn’t The Only Place Where She’s Willing To Bare It All

Kesha’s latest album, Gag Order, is a stripped-down look at the singer’s life over the past few years, including her legal battles. On her single, “Hate Me Harder,” Kesha refused to be silenced by her naysayers. In her new NSFW photo, Kesha is pushing back further about any other kind of censoring.

As she enjoyed a dip into a stream of water, Kesha turned the walk in nature into an impromptu naked photoshoot. When she posted the image (which features only her hand and an overlay of her album art covering her breast), she found a way to market her Gag Order album, writing, “The only thing I have on is my album.”

One fan took some creative liberties with the image to give their own take on the moment, writing, “And now you’re the Jungle Cat Queen.”

While discussing the creative process, Kesha told Rolling Stone that the art of vulnerability played a considerable part. “I feel like I’m giving birth to the most intimate thing I’ve ever created. It’s scary being vulnerable. The fact that I have compiled an entire record of these emotions, of anger, of insecurity, of anxiety, of grief, of pain, of regret, all of that is so nerve-racking — but it’s also so healing,” said Kesha.

Gag Order is out now via Kemosabe/RCA Records. For more information, click here.
