Aaron Paul Revealed That He Doesn’t Make A Dime From ‘Breaking Bad’ Residuals On Netflix: ‘It’s Time To Pony Up’

Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul hit the picket line outside Sony Pictures Studios this weekend where they were joined by fellow Breaking Bad cast members supporting the SAG-AFTRA strike. Jesse Plemons, Betsy Brandt, Matt Jones, and Charles Baker were on hand for the mini-reunion, and for good measure Better Caul Saul stars Rhea Seehorn and Patrick Fabian were also on hand.

“We want you to come back to the table with us,” Cranston said in comments addressing the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. “We’re not making them the enemy. They are not villains. These are people that we all will be working with once again at some point. We just want them to see reality.”

“The way things were structured 10 years ago made a lot of sense and it made it more possible for journeymen-type actors, actors in the middle that are working just as a hard or harder,” Plemons said while talking to reporters.

Paul, however, delivered more scathing remarks. The actor, who played Jesse Pinkman on the hit series, blasted the fact that he receives zero residuals for Breaking Bad streaming on Netflix. The show took off like wildfire on the streamer, and according to Paul, he didn’t see a dime, as he revealed in this ET Canada video below.

“I don’t get a piece from Netflix on Breaking Bad to be totally honest and that’s insane to me,” Paul said. “I think a lot of these streamers know that they have been getting away with not paying people a fair wage and now it’s time to pony up.”

All The Best New Pop Music From This Week

Welcome to September! This week, an old quote from Adele felt relevant: “I love love songs. But I love pop music as well: Girls Aloud, Kylie, the Spice Girls, East 17, Mika,” as one of the artists listed is back with some new music.

As we get further into fall, it’s possible that the pop releases will lean more emotional. But for now, there is still a ton of upbeat danceable hits to check out.

Continue scrolling for Uproxx’s Best New Pop roundup.

Kylie Minogue — “Tension”

Kylie Minogue fans were extremely excited for her “Padam Padam” follow-up, and she seriously delivered with “Tension” — the title track from her forthcoming album. The futuristic synth song sucks you in, and so does the equally-entertaining space themes in the music video.

Jhayco, Peso Pluma — “Ex-Special”

Jhayco and Peso Pluma joined forces for the new “Ex-Special,” where the two reflect about, as expected, their exes. Perfect to close out the summer, the song still brings upbeat energy with its Reggaeton influence.

Griff — “Vertigo”

Griff wrote “Vertigo” after returning as an opening act for Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia tour. “Experiencing love and growing up, it always feels like the world and my emotions are spinning faster than I can keep up with,” Griff shared. “‘Vertigo’ is the beginning of a new creative chapter for me, and I’m excited for us all to go on this journey together.”

Leah Kate — “Unbreakup”

Leah Kate’s “Unbreakup” is the latest drop from her debut album, Super Over, which arrives in just a few weeks. It finds Kate reflecting on how she wishes she could go back to a summer of year’s past to fix things with an ex — as she’s dancing (and performing) in a club with her friends.

Laya — “Left, Right, Go”

Laya’s “Left, Right, Go” finds her relying on her work ethic when it comes to earning money — a highlight from her strong new EP, Bet That. As fans have pointed out, the beat instantly grabs attention, as she repeats the title as a chant — before showing off her great vocals to match.

Troye Sivan — “Rush” (feat. PinkPantheress and Hyunjin of Stray Kids)

Just months after Troye Sivan had the internet buzzing with “Rush,” he has now released a fun remix with PinkPantheress and Stray Kids’ Hyunjin. Already club-ready, the added verses from both new performers give it an even larger-than-life boost.

Icona Pop — “Stick Your Tongue Out”

“Stick Your Tongue Out” is a sweet pop song from Icona Pop that continues the danceable energy — as the “you got it” loop builds to the EDM-inspired chorus. Ten years after their debut album, the duo recently returned with a brand new record, Club Romantech.

Chelsea Cutler — “Your Bones”

Chelsea Cutler’s “Your Bones” finds her gently expressing her love for someone else. “Compromisе is somethin’ that I’m learnin’ / Forever never made much sense to me / The way you look at me like I deserve it / It’s changing who I thought that I could be,” Cutler honestly admits.

NCT U — “Baggy Jeans”

NCT recently returned with a new album, Golden Age, and the sub-unit, NCT U, gives an idea of what to expect with “Baggy Jeans.” Featuring addictive rap influences, the group note that “Yeah boy, I walk a little differently / Ride the beat Bumblebee / Lightly feelin’ so free” in the song.

Lauren Mayberry — “Are You Awake?”

Chvrches’ lead singer, Lauren Mayberry, is setting off on her solo career for the moment. “Are You Awake?” sets the tone, with her opting to create an emotional piano ballad. “I was thinking a lot about loneliness and homesickness,” she said.

The Adorable ‘Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget’ Trailer Is Worth The Wait

It’s usually not a great sign when there’s a decades-long gap between the original movie and the sequel, but we’ll make an exception for Chicken Run. The 2000 stop-motion film from Aardman is a classic (and the last DreamWorks Animation title before that Shrek guy came along), and based on the first trailer, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget looks like a lot of fun, too.

You can watch it above.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget replaces Mel Gibson (phew) with Zachary Levi as Rocky Rhodes, but the real star is Ginger (then: Julia Sawalha; now: Thandiwe Newton), who leads an expedition to break into a compound overseen by the evil Mrs. Tweedy (Miranda Richardson).

“They say a movie is only as good as its villain and Ginger’s nemesis, Mrs Tweedy is one of the all-time greats,” director Sam Fell said in a statement. “Now she’s out to take industrial-scale revenge on all chicken-kind with the ‘Dawn of the Nugget.’ Miranda has a unique understanding of drama and comedy, making you laugh while scaring the pants off you in the exact same moment.” The voice cast also includes Bella Ramsey as Ginger and Rocky’s daughter, Molly, as well as Romesh Ranganathan, David Bradley, Daniel Mays, Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton, Lynn Ferguson, and Nick Mohammed.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget premieres on Netflix on December 15th.

Trump’s Team Is Praying That He’s Not ‘Stupid Enough’ To Pick Marjorie Taylor Greene As His Vice President

If you’re cool with your boss expressing support for people wanting to hang you, Donald Trump has a job for you!

The frequently-arrested former president is in the market for a new vice president (it won’t be Mike Pence again), and tantrum-throwing conspiracy theorist Marjorie Taylor Greene and election loser Kari Lake are interested. Rolling Stone reports that they’re in a “death race” to become his veep, with the two viewing “one another with intense distrust and disdain, each seeing the other as direct competition for Trump’s political affections.” Behind the scenes, Taylor Greene has taken to “trash talking” Lake, which is very unlike her. She’s usually chill and normal and not driven by hate.

“MTG thinks she’s a scammer and not even a conservative,” a source told Rolling Stone. Taylor Greene sees Lake as “a grifter and [is] trying to keep riding Trump’s coattails because she lost [in Arizona], so she’s cozying up on the election-integrity messaging.” But despite all the back stabbing, it doesn’t sound like Trump is interested in picking either woman as his vice president.

Unfortunately for both Lake and Greene, numerous sources close to Trump and working on his reelection effort deem each of their Trump-VP chances as vanishingly low. Several of these people independently claimed that even Trump is not “stupid enough” to tap either as his running mate. Some of these sources say they’ve already advised the routinely indicted 2024 GOP frontrunner that someone like Greene or Lake would bring nothing of value to a ticket, and could hurt him with independent and moderate voters who he’d need to unseat President Biden.

Fighting with another woman for a man who doesn’t want her? This wouldn’t be the first time Marjorie Taylor Greene set back the feminist movement.

Kendrick Lamar And Diana Ross Made Beyoncé’s Birthday Special By Joining Her On Stage At The ‘Renaissance’ Tour

Beyoncé posted up at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California this weekend for a run of concerts as part of her ongoing Renaissance tour. She made a splash towards the end of the show when Kendrick Lamar joined her on stage to perform their remix of Renaissance highlight “America Has A Problem.”

Furthermore, Diana Ross made an appearance as well, popping up to sing “Happy Birthday” to Beyoncé, who turned 42 yesterday.

Lamar and Ross weren’t the only big names at the show: Per Pop Base, also attending the concert were Adele, Zendaya, Tom Holland, the Kardashians, Justin Bieber, Lizzo, Katy Perry, Kate Hudson, Normani, Brandy, Chris Rock, Timothée Chalamet, Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera, Quinta Brunson, Ayo Edebiri, and Yung Miami.

There was a lot of silver in the audience, as Beyoncé requested that Renaissance attendees show up in silver-colored outfits in observance of Virgo season. This was good news for a lot of Etsy sellers, who saw significant increases in sales of their silvery products.

Beyond that, Beyoncé also celebrated her big day by sharing a new song, posting it on her Instagram.

Three Years After ‘WAP’ Shocked The World, Cardi B And Megan Thee Stallion Are Staging A Voluptuous Reunion With A New Single

After a lengthy five-year period since her debut album, Invasion Of Privacy, Cardi B is ready to share another project. Fans might have enjoyed her string of guest verses on tracks such as her “Jealousy” with her husband Offset, FendiDa Rappa’s “Point Me 2,” and Latto’s “Put It On Da Floor Again,” but Cardi is ready to drop a record of her own.

Yesterday (September 3), Cardi hinted that she had a major announcement on the horizon. Today (September 4), the cat’s out of the bag. In a post uploaded to Cardi’s official Instagram page, she revealed her next single as the lead artist. The track titled “Bongos” will be shared onto steaming services on Friday (September 8).

As if the track itself wasn’t enough, it will feature “WAP” collaborator Megan Thee Stallion, who herself hasn’t shared her own music since last year’s album Traumazine.

Although in August, Cardi told magazine Vogue Mexico, “I’m not going to release any more collaborations, I’m going to publish my next solo single,” based on what she and Megan were able to cook up on “WAP” supporters will surely overlook that statement.

What’s Popular On Streaming Now

Every single week, our TV and film experts will list the most important ten streaming selections for you to pop into your queues. We’re not strictly operating upon reviews or accrued streaming clicks (although yes, we’ve scoured the streaming site charts) but, instead, upon those selections that are really worth noticing amid the churning sea of content. There’s a lot out there, after all, and your time is valuable.

TIE: 10. The Boogeyman (20th Century Studios movie streaming on VOD and Amazon Prime)

This 2023 movie goes back to the 1973 short story by Stephen King as the perfect streaming lead-in to nightmares about Halloween season. This is not a true tale, but perhaps thinking of it that way can increase the terror. The story explores the enduring Boogeyman/Bogeyman folklore that has persisted around the globe for centuries. We’ve got a distracted father not paying enough attention to a pair of sisters, who begin to experience horrors that could trigger any lingering fears you’ve ever had about monsters lurking in your bedroom closet. The cast includes Sophie Thatcher, David Dastmalchian, and Chris Messina.

TIE: 10. Harlan Coban’s Shelter (Amazon Prime series)

Another adaptation has proven to be a streaming crowd pleaser while adapting the series by (as the title suggests) Harlan Coben. This series revolves around Mickey Bolivar, who must uproot his life after his father’s death. Being the new student at school is rarely a good time, and another newbie shows up to complicate matters. Cue a dark underground and investigations by Mickey and his new group of friends, who might just solve a long-standing mystery of the surrounding community.

9. Star Wars: Ahsoka (Disney+ series)

The Mandalorian‘s third season sparked fears that the Star Wars TV shows are perhaps a bit too saturated these days, but Ahsoka appears to be a turn for the better, at least so far. Perhaps that’s owing to Rosario Dawson being initially cast by the Internet as the title character, so people are already invested in the show’s outcome. You might need to do a little catchup first, though. The first season follows up on Ashoka’s The Mandalorian appearance as well as the character’s place at the end of Star Wars: Rebels.

8. Suits (USA series streaming on Netflix)

The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes will do nothing to slow down the continued appetite for this show that ended years ago but continues to inspire millions of weekly streaming hours. Perhaps this is evidence that Meghan Markle can always fall back into scripted TV if that whole reality-show thing on Netflix doesn’t work out. This show has been cruising into the Netflix’s Top 10 list of most-streamed shows of all time, and the Suits have been sizzling all summer.

7. Special Ops: Lioness (Paramount+ series)

Taylor Sheridan’s audience can’t get enough of him, even when his series lie outside the Yellowstone universe proper. This particular show arrives with another A-list lineup including Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman in this story about CIA operatives who mentor and mold recruits into fearsome assassins. Next up for Sheridan will be Lawmen: Bass Reeves, starring David Oyelowo, Donald Sutherland, Dennis Quaid, and Garrett Hedlund. For now, though, enjoy Zoe Saldaña getting back to her badass roots.

6. Who Is Erin Carter? (Netflix series)

Speaking of ass-kicking women, here’s a sleeper series that proves that the streaming audience will not tire of maternal figures with a mysterious past who suddenly break into an arsenal of gunman-busting moves out of nowhere. Yup, cue up another high-octane thriller series that might not make sense, but nonetheless, you might need to reserve time for a binge session once you start watching.

5. Only Murders in the Building (Hulu series)

Selena Gomez can do everything. Sure, Steve Martin and Martin Short are great, too, but the actress/singer/not-a-chef-but-still-great-at-cooking triple threat is the biggest reason to watch this show. Oh, and Meryl Streep also happens to be along for the homicidal intrigue this season, and Emily In Paris‘ Ashley Park is one of several cameos to enjoy.

4. Justified: City Primeval (FX series streaming on Hulu)

Our own Brian Grubb struck a celebratory tone over a twist for the ages that ended this supposedly limited series’ finale. There might very well be more, judging from the outpouring I’ve seen on social media following those final minutes. Yes, Raylan got out of Harlan and Detroit alive, but he might never be able to stop being a lawman while he’s alive.

3. You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah (Netflix film)

We still haven’t seen Adam Sandler attempt another movie on par with Uncut Gems, but through and through, he is a funnyman. This time, he pokes fun at himself by portraying a father to two daughters who happen to be portrayed by his two real-life daughters, Sunny and Sadie. Idina Menzel (also of Uncut Gems) is also on board, and someone’s Bat Mitzvah could potentially be ruined by a dramatic betrayal of friendship. Man, boys are just not worth it, but at least some people weed themselves out of that pool. Enjoy the Dua Lipa, too.

2. The Wheel Of Time (Amazon Prime series)

Jeff Bezos famously wanted Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power to be his Game Of Thrones, but instead, this Rosamund Pike-starring series is so-far succeeding more at that goal. Fantasy lit lovers turned out in droves and pushed Wheel Of Time to the top three of most-watched Amazon Original series thus far. The sprawling series is based upon Robert Jordan’s bestselling novels that follow a world where only choice women can access magic. Pike stars as Moiraine, who hails from the all-powerful Aes Sedai organization. Under her guidance, the prophesied Dragon Reborn is destined to appear and either save humanity or crush it.

1. One Piece (Netflix series)

Netflix hasn’t had the best history of adapting anime on the live-action front (Cowboy Bebop, Death Note, but the fans are quite pleased with this effort. The world-building production adapts the ragingly popular manga and follows Monkey D. Luffy, who sets out to find a particularly prized and elusive treasure in an effort to become the pirate king. You can watch this in English as produced, but you can also contemplate the sub vs. dub conundrum at will. Choose your own hill, so to speak, on that one.

Kid Cudi’s ‘Insano’ Album Has Been Pushed Back, So He Decided To Share Two Songs As An Apology To His Fans

Kid Cudi’s former plans to retire from music were clearly an expression of professional frustration as he is hard at work on his upcoming album, Insano. Unfortunately, the musician has just hit a bump in the road. Today (September 4), Cudi took to his X (formerly Twitter) page to share a few updates regarding the project’s release.

“I have to push ‘Insano’ back til January,” wrote the entertainer, noting his perfectionist personality as the reason. But he was sure to end it on a positive note. As an apology for the delay, Cudi uploaded two tracks, “Most Ain’t Dennis” and “Ill What I Bleed,” off the forthcoming body of work onto his official Soundcloud page.

Both are a full display of Cudi’s innovative combination of vocal distortion via auto-tune and trap-heavy bass. As far as the inspiration behind the records goes, “Most Ain’t Dennis,” which was produced by BNYX & SADPONY, is in a way dedicated to his longtime friend and frequent collaborator, Dennis Cummings (the executive producer of Cudi’s film projects, 2021’s A Man Named Scott and 2022’s Entergalactic). On it, Cudi chronicles the difficulty in finding quality connections.

On the other hand, “Ill What I Bleed,” also produced by BNYX, is all about Cudi’s confidence in himself as he brags about his trendsetting swagger. Cudi has been receptive to his supporter’s feedback in the past. In May, he even scrapped a track that was set to appear on Insano because of the negative response it garnered. So, fans won’t be holding back their thoughts regarding these two new records.

Read the full statement about Insano‘s delay below.

Hey, fam! Got some updates for y’all. Some bad news, some good. I have to push ‘Insano’ back til January. I want to make sure that everything lines up, and that I give y’all the best version of myself. This album is amazing, and I want to make sure I present it in the best way for y’all. That’s the bad news. I still plan on releasing the next single soon, so don’t even worry about that.

The good news is, since I’m doing this and I know you all are feening to get a listen of the album, I’m releasing two new jams from ‘Insano’ tonight on Soundcloud. Just for you. (And I promise I won’t take them down.) These songs are some of my favorites on the album and I really think you’ll dig them. I’m sorry for the delay everybody but I’m a perfectionist. And things gotta be right. I love y’all! Enjoy!
