Colorado Star Travis Hunter Was Taken To The Hospital After A Brutal Late Hit Against Colorado State

One of the biggest reasons for Colorado’s early season success has been the play of Travis Hunter, the former No. 1 recruit in America who followed Deion Sanders from Jackson State to Boulder. Hunter has been a star on both sides of the field, as he’s been a productive receiver for the Buffaloes’ offense and a dominant cornerback for the team’s defense.

On Saturday night, Colorado played host to Colorado State in a game that had a whole lot of excitement. Unfortunately for the home team, their star two-way player wasn’t able to finish the game due to a late hit. Hunter was playing wide receiver in the first quarter when Shedeur Sanders lobbed one up to him. There was a whole lot of contact and Hunter wasn’t able to bring the ball in, and after the play was over, Rams defensive back Henry Blackburn came in and laid him out.

It’s as clear of a late hit as you’ll see, and it left Hunter in some obvious pain. While he kept trying to play, during the game’s third quarter, Hunter was taken to a local hospital to get evaluated.

Losing Hunter would, in general, be a gigantic loss, but it’s an extra tough pill to swallow because the Rams have given the Buffs quite the game. At the time of his departure, Colorado State had a 21-14 lead over Coach Prime’s squad.

Sylvester Stallone Has A Lot To Say In ‘Sly’

Sylvester Stallone has never really shied away from telling us what he thinks, about anything really. Especially his past movies. There’s an SNL sketch from 1997 when Stallone hosted while promoting Cop Land. Stallone, playing himself, is involved in an auto accident with another driver played by Norm Macdonald. The entire length of the sketch is Stallone trying to help while Macdonald is crying out in agony, not in pain, but remembering another bad Stallone movie like Rhinestone*, as Stallone tries to defend the thinking around each one. (Stallone tries to explain Cobra had a lot of problems in editing.)

*For the record I kind of like Rhinestone.

In the new documentary about his life, Sly, which closed the Toronto International Film Festival, we don’t really get the blow-by-blow of what Stallone thinks about each and every movie he’s ever made. If you want Stallone’s thoughts on, say, Nighthawks or The Specialist, this isn’t that kind of film. And to be fair, Stallone has made a lot of movies so something like that would be a very long movie. Also, as stated, Stallone hasn’t been shy about talking about his past films and what went wrong, so that information is already out there.

Instead, director Thom Zimny carves out a few select areas of Stallone’s life to cover. With a big one, of course, being the release and success of Rocky – but then interestingly focusing on Stallone’s two followup films that come between Rocky and Rocky II that were both critical and box office disasters: F.I.S.T. and Paradise Alley. This is an interesting time period for Stallone when he decided to take some huge chances. And neither of them worked, which seems to have taught Stallone to just give audiences what they want, which in this case was another Rocky movie. (Stallone would give audiences four more Rocky movies after that.)

Ans this becomes the heart of the documentary, Stallone, as a force of nature, knowing what audiences want to see. A lot is made out of Stallone’s rivalry with Arnold Schwarzenegger (who appears in Sly as a talking head), and this documentary touches on it, too. But Stallone and Schwarzenegger have very different mindsets when it came to making movies. Schwarzenegger sought out great directors. During Schwarzenegger’s prime run, he worked with James Cameron three times, John McTiernan twice, Ivan Reitman three times, Paul Verhoeven, and Walter Hill. Schwarzenegger’s mindset was to find great filmmakers and put his faith in them to make a great movie.

Stallone is the opposite. Stallone’s faith was in himself, to the detriment of most directors he wound up working with. Just go to the “production” tab on Wikipedia of almost every movie Stallone did. It starts to become funny how, like clockwork, there will be the section on how Stallone and his director “didn’t see eye to eye” and Stallone wound up taking over the production. If Stallone was going to be in a bad movie, it was at least going to be on his terms.

Movie-wise, the doc circles in on Stallone’s three franchises: Rocky, Rambo, and The Expendables. The first two make a lot of sense, but with all due respect to The Expendables, it’s just a franchise that doesn’t have the cultural importance of the other two. But, I get it, it kind of bookends Stallone’s career after the doc dives into Stallone’s last true attempt at critical acclaim in Cop Land. (Stallone is legitimately great in Cop Land, which was pretty much ignored by awards at the time. Stallone would finally get another Oscar nomination for playing Rocky again in Creed.)

Stallone on his father is interesting. And I’ve never really heard him talk about his father at length like this before. It was an obviously complicated and fraught relationship – Stallone often describes his father as “physical” – that also informs Stallone’s entire career. Stallone gets pretty emotional discussing his love for Polo – and how he was becoming pretty good – but his father’s jealousy and insecurities stopped Stallone from playing. There’s really interesting footage from the mid-1980s, of Stallone setting up a polo match in which he brought in a bunch of top-ranked players so he and his father could play against each other. At one point, Stallone’s father takes a cheap shot, hitting his son in the back with a mallet. Stallone even comments on this at the time in the post-game press conference, kind of making a joke about it but also laced with a lot of truth. We cut to current-day Stallone who says, after that day, he sold all the horses, all the equipment, and never played again. What was supposed to be a nice moment for him and his father, his father once again ruined. And we can tell this still really bothers Sly. And all of these emotions about his father are used to frame Stallone’s relationship with his late son, Sage, who died in 2012. Stallone doesn’t talk a lot of about Sage – the little he does, it’s obvious this is still a very raw subject – but the clips used from the time the two co-starred together in Rocky V are pretty heartbreaking.

Sly is about as good a documentary on Sylvester Stallone can be without being a Ken Burns’ length saga. (Though, I’d for one love to watch something that long about Stallone; also, bring Greta Gerwig in as a talking head) I’d love to hear his updated thoughts on Rhinestone, why he didn’t do Beverly Hills Cop, what was the deal with the awkward shower scene with Sharon Stone in The Specialist, why he felt he had to take over so many productions. (Though, of all movies, Sly does get into some details about Stop or My Mom Will Shoot.) Stallone seems like someone who still has a lot to say and will tell his stories to anyone who wants to listen. And I’d like to hear some more.

Biden Debuted A Not Very Flattering Nickname For Donald Trump Over One Of His Most Humiliating Milestones

Joe Biden has gone light on Donald Trump, his (for now!) likely rival in the 2024 presidential election. Perhaps he doesn’t think he needs to say much yet. Indeed, the last time he dragged him in public he didn’t even have to say his name. He barely had to say much about the big guy’s historic mugshot. Speaking of names, he debuted a new, unflattering nickname for his predecessor, tied to one of his more humiliating milestones.

As per The Hill, Biden was speaking at a Maryland college Thursday, talking up his “Bidenomics” program that he hopes will help the whole country, not just the top one percent. The nation’s job numbers under his watch have been excellent — a major comeback from what happened during the height of the pandemic. In fact, Biden couldn’t help resist but slam the guy before him for doing such a lousy job on that front.

“Folks, it wasn’t that long ago we were losing jobs in this country,” Biden told the crowd. “In fact, there were only two presidents in American history with fewer jobs the day they left office than when they started. One was President Hoover, and the other was Donald ‘Hoover’ Trump.”

Sure enough, when Trump left office in January 2021, the nation had a whopping three million fewer jobs than when he started four years earlier.

And yet Biden’s approval ratings have been crappy anyway. In a RealClearPolitics poll, just 38 percent of those surveyed approved of how he’s doing, with 58 disapproving.

That hasn’t stopped Biden from touting the good job he’s doing anyway. “Seriously, we’re living through one of the greatest job-creation periods in our history. And, folks, it’s not an accident,” Biden told the crowd Thursday. “That literally is our economic plan in action. Bidenomics in action.”

It also hasn’t stopped the Biden team from seeming to mess with Trump’s mind. After they bowed a “Dark Brandon” mug in early August, Trump was so convinced they were trolling him that he filed a frivolous court complaint.

Offset Laughed Off Alleged Threats From Nicki Minaj’s Husband, Kenneth Petty: ‘F*ck They Talkin’ About’

It appears there may be beef between former Migo Offset and Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth “Zoo” Petty.

Over the course of the weekend, some video footage surfaced of Petty with a group of friends calling out for Offset on an empty street in New York City’s Theater District.

“Offset, where you at?” said an affiliate of Petty. “We outside.”

According to HipHopDX, Offset and his wife, rapper Cardi B, were allegedly staying at a hotel in the neighborhood where this took place. But neither Offset nor Cardi reportedly stepped out to confront Petty and crew directly.

In another clip, Petty is heard threatening to “knock the veneers” out of Cardi’s mouth.

Shortly after the footage — the date of which it was shot unclear — surfaced, Offset took to his own social media platforms, where he seemingly addressed these alleged threats.

“I’m getting off a jet, and he’s funny,” Offset said. “F*ck they talkin’ about? We hoppin’ off jets. Talkin’ bout ‘outside.’ Extremely broke!”

Later, a screenshot of an Instagram DM from Offset was shared by an affiliate of Petty. In the screenshot, Offset appears to asking for the affiliate’s location, seemingly wanting to confront him in person.

At the time of writing, it’s unclear when or where this alleged beef began.

You can see clips above.

Cardi B is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Missouri Upset Kansas State On A 61-Yard Walk-Off Field Goal

Week 3 of the college football season gave us a Big 12 vs. SEC showdown in Columbia. The Kansas State Wildcats, ranked 15th in America, went on the road to take on Missouri, which was hoping to bounce back in a big way after an underwhelming performance in a home win against Middle Tennessee State last week.

The Tigers went into the fourth quarter facing a 24-17 deficit, but banged in a field goal early in the frame before scoring a touchdown to go ahead with a little more than eight minutes to go. Because Kansas State was able to tie things up with a field goal of their own and then both teams traded punts, it looked like things were slated to go to overtime unless Missouri was able to make something happen in the 85 seconds that they had the ball.

They managed to do just that, as the team ran 10 plays to set up a field goal attempt for their All-American kicker, Harrison Mevis. It required quite the kick, as he lined up from 61 yards, but even if things were moved back a little, Mevis would have drilled this.

This was nothing short of ridiculous, and it will go down as the longest field goal in SEC history.

An LSU Freshman Running Back Steamrolled Someone So Badly That Even Leonard Fournette’s Impressed

LSU entered Saturday afternoon as a popular potential upset pick, as the team had to go to the always tricky Starkville to take on Mississippi State in their SEC opener. It didn’t take long for them to squash any idea of an upset, though, as the team took a 24-7 lead into halftime and looked like the potential Playoff contender they were hyped up to be coming into the season.

A lead this emphatic means it’s easy to justify giving some run to young fellas, so after his 11-carry, 62-yard performance against Grambling State last season, LSU put 4-star true freshman running back Kaleb Jackson on the field. He took a relatively normal handoff, tried to go up the middle, bounced it to the outside, and was 1-on-1 with a defensive back, who learned the hard way that this youngster can lay the lumber.

That man went backwards a full six yards because he got a shoulder dropped into his chest! It was an impressive bit of ball carrying by Jackson, to the point that it caught the attention of a former LSU running back who was pretty good at doing this stuff to opposing players.

This does, indeed, look like it hurt.

Good Lord, Trump Is Still Bragging About How He ‘Aced’ An Incredibly Basic Cognitive Test

Donald Trump has long hammered away at the allegation that Joe Biden isn’t so right in the head. During a speech Friday, he even claimed his presidential successor was in “cognitive decline” — while saying things like how he was leading us into “World War II.” Three years ago Trump himself took a very easy cognitive test, simply meant to determine whether he was of basic fitness. And it’s probably a good sign that he’s still bragging about it.

In a clip from an interview Trump did with Meet the Press, which is set to air on Sunday, the former president and interviewer Kristen Welker talked about “the age issue,” namely whether it’s a good idea for either Biden, 80, or Trump, 77, to be running for another four-year gig. Trump repeated his belief that there should be a “competency test.” He then, for the thousandth time, brought up that test he took before losing re-election three years back.

“You know, I took a test two years ago, three years ago,” he recalled. “And as the doctors said — and it was in front of doctors and a whole big deal at Walter Reed [hospital], which is an incredible place. And I aced it. I get everything right. I’m all for testing. I frankly think testing would be a good thing.”

Mind you, one doesn’t “ace” this kind of test, which, over the course of 10 minutes, simply measures the presence of mild cognitive impairment or early dementia.

Trump also did his usual vague business about “lots of people” saying things, declaring of the test, “A lot of people say it’s not constitutional to do it. But I would be for testing, to test to make sure everyone’s just fine. But a lot of people say that can’t happen because of Constitution.”

In any case, none of the younger spring chickens gunning for Trump’s slot on the GOP ticket has come anywhere close to unseating the king. As for the Democrats, the closest they’ve gotten is a guy who believes some truly cuckoo stuff about vaccines.

An open letter to men who will have sex with me but won’t date me

This article originally appeared on 06.29.18

Many years before I got together with my boyfriend, I had a sex thing with this guy that I thought was relationship material.

He not only had an amazing body but a great personality as well. I was honest when I met him that I was looking for something more than just sex, and he led me to believe that was what he wanted, too.

Between mind-blowing sex sessions, we ordered in, played video games, and watched movies — couple things but without the label. But when I tried to get him to go to a show or out to dinner with me, he refused. My frustration grew as the months went on, and one day I confronted him.

“Why don’t we ever go anywhere?”

“We have everything we need here,” he answered while simultaneously distracting me by caressing my shoulder blades.

“We actually don’t,” I said. “I’m hungry, let’s check out that new Indian place around the corner.”

“No! We might run into one of my buddies,” he said, moving his body further away from me. The underlining meaning was clear — he couldn’t take the chance that someone he knew would see him with me.

He needed to keep our relationship on the DL so that no one would ever suspect that he enjoyed spending time with me — a fat woman.

He was super fit, so obviously that’s the kind of woman he wanted to be associated with, the kind he could be seen with at the Indian place.

When I realized he was ashamed of being seen with me, I felt as if I had been punched in the stomach — a place where much of my pain already resided.

To him, I was fuckable but not dateable. He dumped me soon after that conversation.

He did me a favor by not continuing to lead me on. Otherwise, I might still be trying to prove to him that I was worth any shit he might have gotten from other people. If I was still his secret shame, I might not have met my next boyfriend, so thanks, athletic asshole.

I had hoped that, in this age of body positivity, men would no longer need to hide their desires when it comes to fat women.

But I was wrong.

It’s just a sad fact: Many men who are sexually attracted to fat women are ashamed of it.

They’re OK with banging a fat girl, but they don’t want to hang out with her — someone might judge them for it.

It’s one thing if you’re not into fat women — everyone has their preferences, and not every body type appeals to everyone. But if you find larger women hot and you want to have sex with them without being associated in public with them, that’s emotionally abusive.

Everyone should have the freedom to express their desires openly (as long as there’s consent from both parties). If you modify your behavior and wants to what you think will protect you from criticism and/or ridicule, then you need help because that kind of self-loathing will only grow until it has destroyed you.

Don’t act like we’re in a relationship if all you really want is to experience what sex with a fat woman is like.

I’ll tell you what it’s like: It’s as amazing and fun as having sex with anyone who’s into having sex with you. We don’t have magic vaginas, and our breasts don’t do any special tricks — well besides the usual, like feed or comfort people.

Fat women are just as hot and sexually gifted as women of other shapes, sizes, and abilities. Being fat doesn’t mean we’re so hungry for attention that we’ll put our own needs aside and do whatever we can to rock your world.

If you’re with someone who doesn’t make you feel beautiful or who isn’t proud to have you on their arm, you need to dump their ass.

Being alone is far better than compromising on what you deserve or being made to feel as if you’re someone’s big dirty secret.

You’re not only dateable, you’re lovable and worthy of being treated with respect and love.

I regret not standing up for myself when I discovered the athletic guy was only using me for sex. But at least I learned, as we all should learn, that I’m responsible for being my biggest advocate and to never accepting anything less than what I need.

Over the course of the residency, Adele has walked through the audience, and taken pictures and video selfies with fans. She continued, noting that while she herself was not gotten COVID, many of the people she works with have, and she does not want to risk getting sick and having to cancel or postpone any of her shows.

Maren Morris Makes A Principled Departure From The Country Music Landscape In Her New Video For ‘The Tree’

Maren Morris has learned the hard lesson in which if you love something that doesn’t love you back, you have to let it go. In Morris’ case, she makes a firm decision to leave country music.

This past Friday (September 15), Morris dropped a two-track EP called The Bridge, which features the song “The Tree.” On “The Tree,” Morris seems to reflect on recent events — which may include calling out Brittany Aldean, wife of country singer Jason Aldean, for transphobic comments and slamming Morgan Wallen’s use of a racial slur. While many praised Morris’ outspokenness, some country music fans labeled her a “lunatic” and outcasted her within the genre.

“I’m done fillin’ a cup with a hole in the bottom / I’m takin’ an axe to the tree / The rot at the roots is the root of the problem / But you wanna blame it on me,” she sings.

In the accompanying video, she is seen walking out of a country town, and literally cutting down a tree. A billboard reading “Welcome to our perfect small town, from sunrise to sundown” appears toward the end of the video, which seems to satirically allude to Jason Aldean’s controversial song, “Try That In A Small Town.”

It’s worth noting that the song is produced by pop go-to Greg Kurstin and Jimmy Robbins, and released through Columbia Records, instead of Morris’ previous label, Sony Nashville.

You can see the video for “The Tree” above.
