BTS’ Suga Almost ‘Wanted To Quit’ Music As He Struggled With ‘Anger Against The World’

On Tuesday, October 17, Suga from BTS uploaded a vulnerable new episode of his Suchwita drinking show. He had Kim Jong-wan, lead singer of the Korean rock band NELL, on as a special guest, and the two discussed just how similar their careers were, according to Billboard.

While working in different genres, both shared one thing: They struggled with seeing rumors about their lives in the press.

“Of course, when I was young, I also had a lot of anger and rage — anger against the world and against the system, but as I made my mixtapes, a lot of those negative emotions got reduced,” Suga shared.

“During D-DAY, compared to D-2, people said a lot of that rage was gone, but I don’t think that can be helped,” he added. “I don’t think I need to bring back the emotions I’ve already dealt with. Back then, I was distressed and wanted to quit, but those thoughts went away through music, so now I’m thankful for those times. It was thanks to those moments that I can do all this now.”

Suga previously brought Jong-wan to perform on his earlier D-2 album, as he contributed killer vocals to “Dear My Friend.”

Check out Suga’s full discussion with Kim Jong-wan on his show above.

Martin Scorsese Said ‘Goodfellas’ Got Him ‘Shunned’ From Italian Restaurants

Martin Scorsese has a new picture out this weekend, which is a good excuse to do something fun: think about Martin Scorsese pictures. Some rank his beloved films. The big guy himself? Well, he’s busy telling stories about making them. For instance, Goodfellas is a strong candidate for his best film. But not everyone is a fan.

Per Insider, the legendary filmmaker sat down with Timothée Chalamet for a GQ chat, where talk inevitably touched on his 1990 mafia classic. The film was a modest box office hit that scored six Oscar nominations, winning one for Joe Pesci. It went on to a healthy post-theatrical life, heralded as one of the ‘90s most beloved and rewatchable (and misunderstood) films. And yet it still received backlash, at least among a certain slither of the population.

“Oh my God. I was shunned for Goodfellas. Shunned in certain Italian restaurants. They wouldn’t let me in,” Scorsese told Chalamet.

Scorsese didn’t name names, but as Insider pointed out, he discussed at least one such incident during the 25th anniversary celebration in 2015. He and his co-writer Nicholas Pileggi, who wrote the book, Wiseguy, upon which it’s based, used to go to a restaurant they loved.

“When the film came out, the owner of the restaurant said we’re not allowed in anymore because we apparently denigrated a certain ethnic group for the picture,” Scorsese recalled at the time.

During his GQ chat, Chalamet asked Scorsese asked him about one of the fixtures of his films (though not all of them, of course): horrible violence.

“I grew up in a place that was, you know, violence was a form of expression… And it was serious,” Scorsese recalled about growing up in Little Italy. “There was a difference between a friendly slap and a slap. And that was up to you to determine. And you could see that in Goodfellas when he says ‘You think I’m funny?’”

Speaking of horrible violence, Scorsese’s latest, Killers of the Flower Moon, comes out on October 20.

Tupac And Will Smith Would’ve Been ‘Really Good Friends,’ According To Jada Pinkett Smith

Jada Pinkett Smith hasn’t been holding back while promoting her new memoir. The actress recently sat down for an interview with Jay Shetty for his podcast On Purpose, during which she had some thoughts about the possibility of Tupac and Will Smith’s becoming pals.

“If ‘Pac had survived Vegas, he and Will would’ve ended up being really good friends,” Pinkett Smith said. “They would’ve had a lot to offer each other. Funny enough, Will was the only person when I started dating him, ‘Pac never said anything.”

“If I dated anybody else, ‘Pac had something to say,” she added. “He didn’t think anybody was good enough, which I understand. But when I started dating Will, he didn’t say anything. Which meant to me, in his own way, he approved. He didn’t say anything. Not a word, which made me believe he approved.”

Despite this, during another recent stop where Pinkett Smith talked to Fat Joe (via HipHopDX), she made it clear that she and Tupac were never a legit couple. “People make too many assumptions because I be trying to keep stuff close to the chest,” she noted. “We were never together. And people when they read the book, they’ll see how deep our friendship was.”

When Will ‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse’ Be Streaming On Netflix?

Comic book movies aren’t the sure thing they once were. But Spider-Man’s doing hunky dory. The most recent in the Tom Holland wing was the first blockbuster after the height of the pandemic, and is currently the seventh highest grossing film ever (not adjusted for inflation). Right now the sixth biggest money gobbler of 2023 is the latest from the animated Miles Morales section. But when does Across the Spider-Verse hit streaming?

The answer is October 31, which is when the film will join Netflix’s vast coffers.

But which version will appear on the streamer king? During its wildly successful box office run, some moviegoers noticed a slight change in a scene involving Oscar Isaac’s dead serious futuristic Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 and his holographic helper Lyla. In fact, Sony sent out an update to the film mid-run to fix some sound problems after moviegoers complained that some of Spider-Gwen’s dialogue wasn’t clear enough during the opening.

Not all is well with the Spider-verse. With two different Spidey film wings crushing the box office, surely Sony was feeling cocky, announcing another spinoff that would star no less than Bad Bunny. Alas, over the summer, the future of that one turned out to be uncertain.

Still, at least you have Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse — and its follow-up — which Netflix subscribers can watch starting Oct. 31.

Troye Sivan Opened Up About How Janet Jackson Changed His ‘Trajectory’ As A Songwriter

Troye Sivan recently released his new album, Something To Give Each Other. In support of it, he did an interview with Billboard’s Pop Shop podcast where he talked about the record — and some of his key influences in music.

“I talk a lot about Janet Jackson because she’s so important to me, but I saw her show at the Hollywood Bowl really early on in the process,” Sivan shared. “And, to me, it took me right back to when was I was like, however old I was, I was probably like 7… hearing ‘Together Again’ for the first time.”

“And that melody and those chords and the warmth that’s in that song literally changed the trajectory of my life,” he added. “The trajectory of my life as a musician and as a songwriter, specifically. And that’s something that I was really really striving for [on the new album]. I wanted something warm.”

Sivan also spoke about the possibility of doing a tour tied to the new album, with his fears tied to it.

“I’m intimidated because… when this tour happens, I want it to be the tour of my life,” he explained. “I really do. And I want to give the big pop show that I think this album is asking for, and these visuals are asking for. And so it’s a big job… So, I’m gonna take a second and regroup and then figure it out. For some reason, I really really really feel the pressure, I really do.”

For now, fans can listen to Sivan’s new record, which is out now.

When Was Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ Originally Released?

Taylor Swift is just a few weeks away from dropping her re-recorded version of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) on October 27. For those who might be wondering, the original version of Swift’s 1989 dropped all the way back in 2014, making next year its 10th anniversary.

Specifically, the original release date was released on exactly October 27, 2014, making it almost a full-circle type of deal. Swift’s fifth studio album found her leaning fully into pop music.

The record had three No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, namely “Bad Blood” featuring Kendrick Lamar, “Shake It Off,” and “Blank Space.” Other tracks like “Style” and “Wildest Dreams” made it to the Top 10 following its release.

It also took home Album Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammy Awards. At the time, it made Swift the first female solo artist to win twice for AOTY. (She has since earned a third for her 2020 album, Folklore.)

Shortly after the album’s original release, Swift removed her catalog from Spotify, citing the ways streaming prevented songwriters from getting royalties. While her music is now back on the streamer, this move didn’t affect the massive success of 1989 at all.

When the new version is released, those who might have been too young or not around for the original run get to experience the joys of this era all over again.

1989 (Taylor’s Version) is out 10/27 via Republic Records. Find more information here.

When Does ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ Come Out?

Taylor Swift is gearing up to release her next re-recording with 1989 (Taylor’s Version) arriving in just a few days. For those who aren’t already aware of its release dates, it will be out in the world on October 27 — 10 days away as of this writing.

“Surprise!!” Swift wrote in the original announcement. “1989 (Taylor’s Version) is on its way to you [soon]! The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways, and it fills me with such excitement to announce that my version of it will be out October 27th. To be perfectly honest, this is my most FAVORITE re-record I’ve ever done because the 5 From The Vault tracks are so insane. I can’t believe they were ever left behind. But not for long!”

Compared to Swift’s other re-recordings, her new version of 1989 is the first to not include any collaborations. Swift added five new vault tracks of previously unheard songs: “Is It Over Now?,” “Now That We Don’t Talk,” “Say Don’t Go,” “Suburban Legends,” and “Slut!.”

As for the next possible re-recorded Swif album to come after 1989 (Taylor’s Version), there are only two left: her self-titled debut and Reputation. However, many fans have suspected from easter eggs that the latter will be the next in the release sequence.
