Is André 3000’s New Album ‘New Blue Sun’ A Rap Album?

André 3000 announced that he’s returning with his first solo album, New Blue Sun, giving fans something to look forward to extremely soon — as he is dropping it this Friday, November 17.

However, during an interview with NPR, he clarified that some Outkast fans who might be expecting a rap album might be disappointed, and he wanted to warn them beforehand.

“I don’t want to troll people,” André said. “I don’t want people to think, ‘Oh, this André 3000 album is coming!’ And you play it and like, ‘Oh man, no verses.’ So even actually on the packaging, you’ll see it says, ‘Warning: no bars.’”

According to a statement, it will instead be “an entirely instrumental album centered around woodwinds; a celebratory piece of work in the form of a living, breathing, aural organism.”

He also hilariously pokes fun at it by naming the album’s opening song “I swear, I Really Wanted To Make A “Rap” Album But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time.” (Somehow, that’s not the strangest song title on the record.)

Stephen Colbert Thinks It’s Going To Be Really Awkward When Trump Meets Hitler And Mussolini ‘In Hell’

Over the weekend at a Veterans Day rally in New Hampshire, Donald Trump vowed to “root out” what he called “the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country.” You know who else referred to their political opponents as vermin? Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

New York University historian Ruth Ben-Ghiat told the Washington Post that “calling people ‘vermin’ was used effectively by Hitler and Mussolini to dehumanize people and encourage their followers to engage in violence. Trump is also using projection: note that he mentions all kinds of authoritarians — ‘communists, Marxists, fascists, and the radical left’ — to set himself up as the deliverer of freedom. Mussolini promised freedom to his people too and then declared dictatorship.”

A Trump spokesperson denied the accusation, calling it a “ridiculous assertion” from “snowflakes” who are “suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome,” but Stephen Colbert had another take. “So he’s plagiarizing those guys?” the host said during Monday’s episode of The Late Show. “It’s going to be so awkward when he runs into them in Hell.”

You can watch Colbert’s monologue above (he also covers Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s romance, as all late-night shows must every episode).

André 3000 Is Finally Releasing His Debut Solo Album But It’s Not What You Might Expect (Or Maybe It Is, Actually)

Andre 3000
Kai Regan

For years now, Outkast fans have been waiting and waiting (and waiting) for André 3000 to release a solo album. Now, he finally is, although musically speaking, it might not meet Outkast fans’ expectations.

In a new interview with NPR Music shared today (November 14), André announced the project: It’s called New Blue Sun and it’s set for release really soon, on November 17. It’s not a rap album, though; André said, “I don’t want to troll people. I don’t want people to think, ‘Oh, this André 3000 album is coming!’ And you play it and like, ‘Oh man, no verses.’ So even actually on the packaging, you’ll see it says, ‘Warning: no bars.’”

To his point, the first song on the album is titled “I swear, I Really Wanted To Make A “Rap” Album But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time.” The other titles on the tracklist (find that below) are equally unconventional.

NPR described the project as “a stunning 87-minute mind-bender, minimalist and experimental, tribal and transcendent” and noted, “One thing it is not, however, is a rap record: No bars, no beats, no sub-bass. André doesn’t sing on this joint, either. What he does do is play flute, and plenty of it — contrabass flute, Mayan flutes, bamboo flutes — along with other digital wind instruments.”

While this is definitely a musical departure, it’s not a complete surprise, given that André has, on multiple occasions in recent years, been spotted out and about playing the flute in public.

A Gospel Grammy Nominee Nearly Got Kicked Off A Flight After She Just Couldn’t Stop Herself From Singing On The Plane

Gospel singer Bobbi Storm had a pretty great day recently: She’s a member of the group Maverick City Music, which just earned 2024 Grammy nominations for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song (for “God Problems”) and Best Gospel Album (for The Maverick Way). (The group also performed with Quavo during the Grammy’s “In Memoriam” segment earlier this year.) How she decided to celebrate, though, raised some eyebrows.

In a video that Storm shared on Instagram on November 10 (last Friday, the day the Grammy nominations were announced), she’s on a plane, standing in the aisle, being scolded by a flight attendant, who told her, “If you’re not able to follow my instructions, you will not be able to take this flight.”

Storm obliges, then tells her fellow passengers about the Grammy nods before singing “We Can’t Forget Him” quietly.

A spokesperson for Delta told USA Today, “Delta has been in contact with the customer. For the safety of our customers and crew, it’s always important to follow crew instructions.”

In the caption of her post, Storm wrote, “At the end of the day God is glorified!!!! Tell me, how are you choosing love on purpose??? Blessings to you all from your #FearlessFlightSinger [winking emoji] #WeCantForgetHim #TheMaverickWay.”

Not everybody was on board with her stunt, though. One Instagram commenter wrote, “This is one of the most egotistical things I’ve ever seen. You think because you’re Grammy nominated that rules don’t apply to you and the plane is your stage? Work on that ego sis.” Another said, “You were completely in the wrong, and I hope you ended up on the no fly list.”

Trevon Diggs Tweets That Stefon Diggs ‘Gotta Get Up Outta There’ After The Bills Lost To The Broncos

It took a whole lot for the Buffalo Bills to lose to the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football this week. The Bills turned the ball over four times and committed a pair of backbreaking penalties down the stretch that opened the door for the Broncos to walk out of Buffalo with a 24-22 win.

One guy who did not have an especially good night was Stefon Diggs, the Bills’ top skill position player and one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. Diggs caught three balls for 34 yards and no touchdowns, and was only targeted five times on the night by Josh Allen. In a game where a QB struggles the way Allen did — 15-for-26, 177 yards, three total turnovers — feeding the ball to your No. 1 receiver is usually a good way to get on track.

Instead, Diggs had season-low marks in receptions, targets, and yards, and after the game, his brother, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs, tweeted that he would like to see a change in scenery.

Diggs wears his heart on his sleeve, which has made him one of the NFL’s most productive receivers over the years and has led to some awkward moments on the sideline with Allen in particular. There’s no indication as of right now that he wants out of Buffalo or anything, but if it ever comes to that point, it sure seems like his brother would support his decision.

Not Even Martin Scorsese Could Get Action Bronson To Shave His Beard Off

Some of the world’s biggest artists have become popular for at least one signature fashion trend, aesthetic, or item. Questlove’s ever-so-meticulously placed pick within his full afro is his classic look. Drake has a few rotating hairstyles, but his buzzed heart-shaped part is the most notable. But for “Subzero” rapper Action Bronson, for a long time, it was his rugged beard.

On November 10, during an appearance on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast, Bronson revealed that at one point, not even critically acclaimed director Martin Scorsese could get him to shave it off. Bronson had the opportunity to work alongside Scorsese for the 2019 Netflix film The Irishman. While working on set, the award-winning cinematographer asked the unthinkable of Bronson.

When the asked joked about hallucinating Bronson into the scene, the topic of his intense facial hair came up. “He asked me to take the beard off, but at that point, I was like, ‘Man, I have like six chins under here. So probably not,’” confessed Bronson.

Ultimately, he did not have to make the sacrifice. However, if it did come down to it, let’s just say most fans believe he would’ve been ok walking away from the project. In the past, he’s turned parts in shows such as Euphoria. But then again, it is Martin Scorsese; the sacrifice could have been worth the payout.

The Broncos Stunned The Bills After A Pair Of Brutal Penalties By Buffalo To End The Game

josh allen bills penalty
ESPN

The Denver Broncos and the Buffalo Bills played one of the ugliest games we’ve seen this season on Monday night. Thanks to four turnovers by Buffalo, it looked like they wouldn’t be able to defend their home field, particularly after a Broncos touchdown and an ensuing failed extra point with a little more than five minutes to go in the game gave them a six-point lead.

And then, the Bills gave themselves a chance. The team marched right down the field against a Denver defense that held up all night up to that point, and right after the two-minute warning, Josh Allen scampered into the end zone for a potential game-winning score to make it 22-21. All they had to do at that point was keep the Broncos from getting into field goal range, but unfortunately for them, they couldn’t do that on the heels of two shocking penalties.

Facing a third-and-10 from near midfield right after a sack, the Bills brought a blitz that nearly got to Russell Wilson, who could do nothing but chuck the ball down the field towards Jerry Jeudy. He underthrew him considerably, but Taron Johnson got hit for a defensive pass interference that put the Broncos in position for a field goal.

After a pair of knees by Wilson were followed by Buffalo timeouts, Denver elected to take a fire drill approach to a game-winning field goal. Wilson took another knee, both sides ran out their field goal units, and because there was more than enough time, the Broncos could take the clock down before Wil Lutz attempted a kick. His boot from 41 yards went wide right … but a flag came because Buffalo had 12 men on the field. It put Denver another five yards closer, and Lutz was able to convert.

The 24-22 win moved the Broncos to 4-5 on the year. Buffalo, meanwhile, has lost two in a row and four of their last six to fall to 5-5.

Patrick Mahomes Predicted What Would Happen Leading Up To Russell Wilson’s Touchdown Pass To Courtland Sutton

patrick mahomes manningcast
ESPN

There aren’t many people who have watched more Denver Broncos film over the last few years than Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Ever since he became the starting quarterback in Kansas City, Mahomes has played the Broncos twice every year, and he’s become very aware of how the team goes about its business.

That came in handy on Monday night during his cameo on the ManningCast broadcast of the game between the Broncos and the Buffalo Bills. Midway through the second quarter, Denver found itself in the red zone, and Eli Manning asked a pair of simple questions: Will they score, and how will they do it? Mahomes took things a step further, saying he expected a pair of runs before a “hard play action on third-and-short that’s gonna get a touchdown.” Here’s how that went:

Now, Mahomes didn’t quite get this perfectly, as the play action that ended in a touchdown came on fourth down. Still, he damn near called this perfectly, and to make up for it, the play action that ended in a touchdown required an absolutely ridiculous effort by Russell Wilson and Courtland Sutton.

This was pretty incredible by Wilson and Sutton, and impressive by Mahomes to map it all out. Congratulations to everyone involved here.
