2023’s highest-grossing (and most pink) movie is making its long-anticipated streaming debut this month. Max announced that Greta Gerwig’s Barbie will be available to watch on the streaming service beginning December 15th, so you can watch the “I’m Just Ken” musical number as often as you like.
Barbie is one of only two movies this year to cross $1 billion at the box office ($1.44 billion, specifically, ahead of The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘s $1.36 billion). Just as star Margot Robbie predicted.
“I think my pitch in the green-light meeting was the studios have prospered so much when they’re brave enough to pair a big idea with a visionary director,” the actress told Collider. “And then I gave a series of examples like, ‘dinosaurs and [Steven] Spielberg,’ that and that, that and that – pretty much naming anything that’s been incredible and made a ton of money for the studios over the years. And I was like, ‘And now you’ve got Barbie and Greta Gerwig.’ And I think I told them that it’d make a billion dollars, which maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make, OK?!”
Between Barbie, Asteroid City, and Saltburn (an Oscar contender that she produced), Robbie’s rough 2022 is a thing of the past. Justice for Babylon, though.
Joe Budden, retired rapper and “shock jock” style podcaster, certainly has a lot of rap “beef” for somebody who only ever gets in front of a mic to spout incendiary opinions for viral traction on social media. And yet, here we are, with yet another rap artist expressing their irritation with Budden after he shared his thoughts on that rapper’s music.
This time, the artist in question is YoungBoy Never Broke Again (aka NBA YoungBoy), whose music Joe Budden called “trash” on a recent episdoe of his inexplicably popular podcast. In the podcast, Budden said, “That n**** is trash, he’s horrible, he’s horrible… he is really bad. That thing happened with him where when he was out, the label pushed the button and did some YouTube sh*t, so all the little kids had to come to the gathering and tell you about how great he is and how many views he has and all of that. Now that the label is backed up, we got three to four of those projects while he’s been in Utah on house arrest.”
In response, YoungBoy went on an expletive-laden rant on his label’s Instagram Story, refuting Budden’s claims. “The last thing I dropped was Decided 2, and my album is still in the top 10,” he argued. “You do all them interviews; come on Grave Digger Mountain and talk to me. If you can’t do that, you bitch-made. Shut your f*cking mouth.”

YoungBoy also does a lot of barking for someone who literally can’t leave the house, so this will proably amount to a few online swipes being exchanged between a pair of guys who have more in common than they do to argue about (namely, their treatment of the women in the lives). Meanwhile, there’s a lot of other artists actually making music — good music, at that — and not beating women in their spare time. Here’s Uproxx list of the Best Albums of 2023.
Saltburn, Emerald Fennell’s sophomore film that’s been lighting social media on fire thanks to a scandalous bathtub scene featuring Barry Keoghan, is making its way to streaming very soon. The satirical film that also stars Jacob Elordi as a wildly charming aristocrat will be available on Amazon Prime Video starting December 22.
The film earned a positive review from Variety critic Peter Debruge despite referring to it as a “vicious Talented Mr. Ripley knockoff.”
“Confronted with a sea of blandly indistinguishable content, Fennell wants to make an impression, embracing the ‘bizart-house’ strategy (pioneered by boundary-pushing A24 movies) of baiting audiences with something they’ve never seen before, and which they’ll be obliged to discuss with others,” Debruge wrote. “It’s all part of the meme-ification of movies, and Fennell seems fairly savvy about loading the film with salty one-liners and visual zingers.”
Here’s the official synopsis:
Academy Award winning filmmaker Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) brings us a beautifully wicked tale of privilege and desire. Struggling to find his place at Oxford University, student Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family’s sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten.
Saltburn starts streaming December 22 on Prime Video.

The festivities began on Sunday, November 26, in Tampa, Florida, continuing into Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas on November 28 and LA last Friday, December 1. (She still plans to perform Jingle Ball shows in Atlanta and Miami later this month.)
So, the (updated) featured Chicago lineup is Lil Wayne, Jelly Roll, Big Time Rush, Doechii, (G)I-DLE, and former Uproxx cover star Kaliii.

May December has been playing in select theaters for a few weeks, but now that it’s on Netflix, everyone can watch one of the year’s best films. Todd Haynes’ arguably campy drama stars Natalie Portman as Elizabeth, a TV actress who shadows Gracie (Julianne Moore), a tabloid fixture who slept with a 13-year-old boy named Joe when she was in her 30s, for a role. Gracie and Joe (Charles Melton) are still together when Elizabeth enters their lives — and permanently alters them when she seduces and has sex with Joe, only to turn on him once she got what she wanted. “This is what adults do.”
Portman spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the sex scene. “She is not the most ethically sound researcher,” the Oscar winner said about Elizabeth. “There’s this question and danger about whether art can be amoral.
Portman continued:
“When you go there and when you go into places that her movie is exploring — and trying to get into the mindset and the heart of someone who’s committing a crime — what does that do to you? How does it affect you? How does it affect your morality and your ethics? Can art actually be immoral? Can you depict a crime without somehow endorsing it or exploiting it?”
But, as with many ambitious artists, even that hasn’t been enough for him — and unfortunately, his aspirations have put him into conflict with one of his equally successful peers. Fans are convinced that Metro has beef with Drake after the producer tweeted his frustration at Heroes & Villains being overshadowed by Drake’s 2022 album with 21 Savage, Her Loss. “Her Loss still keeps winning rap album of the year over H&V,” he wrote in response to a conversation about the disparity between the two albums’ streaming totals. “Proof that awards shows are just politics and not for me. [I don’t care] about awards honestly, the true award and reward is knowing that the music I spend so much time on brings joy to peoples everyday lives.”
While it’s unclear just which “rap album of the year” nod Metro is referring to (several publications had already posted their “Best Albums of 2023” lists at the time of the now-deleted tweet), a recent post on Drake’s Instagram Story was interpreted as a response. Posting a clip from Jay-Z’s 2001 Blueprint standout “Heart Of The City (Ain’t No Love),” Drake higlighted one line in particular. “Damn, little mans, I’m just trying to do me,” Jay raps. “If the record’s two mil, I’m just trying to move three.”
the Drake and Metro Boomin rumored beef continues, Drake posted this on his Instagram story after a tweet and delete by Metro about Her Loss beating his album pic.twitter.com/PeJ7YSTEKU
Does this consitute beef, per se? Not in my book (or Biggie’s, or Yasiin Bey’s, for that matter), but y’all like to see people argue on Twitter. Have fun with that. Meanwhile, Uproxx’s Best Albums of 2023 list is out now, so maybe you’ll get even more intenret play fights to keep you entertained.
The college football world has spent the last 24 hours arguing endlessly about the College Football Playoff committee’s decision to leave an undefeated Florida State team out of the top-4 in favor of a one-loss Alabama team.
Some, like ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit and Greg McElroy, felt the committee had done the right thing and put the best team in the playoff, as Florida State simply wasn’t the same team with Jordan Travis injured and their third-stringer being thrust into the starting lineup for a sloppy ACC title game. And yet, they had won that ACC title game against a previously top-12 ranked Louisville squad even with the injuries, and somehow fell in the rankings. Booger McFarland took up the ‘Noles side on ESPN’s selection show and torched the committee, calling the rankings a “travesty to the sport,” noting the team had done everything it could be possibly asked to do and still got left out.
Unsurprisingly, the anger over the Seminoles’ snub became fodder for politicians as they get ready for the 2024 election, with Florida senator Rick Scott demanding answers from CFP chairman — who, to be clear, went on TV and also held a press conference in which he answered almost all of those questions already. Florida governor and Republican presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis issued a far less aggressive statement on the matter, and then found himself in the crosshairs of his chief rival for the Republican nomination, as Donald Trump posted that blame for FSU’s snub falls on Ron’s shoulders for a “really bad lobbying effort.”
There really is nothing that gets politicians pandering quite like a sports controversy, as it is the lowest hanging fruit they can go after to try and curry some public favor. Trump has never missed an opportunity to dunk on DeSantis, and managed to turn the ‘Noles pain into his gain, as he found yet another way to try and turn people against ol’ Ron.

After a revealing interview, fans have been wondering about “What Was I Made For?” singer Billie Eilish’s sexual orientation. While she thinks that it should have been “obvious” all along, there are still those who seem confused or surprised by recent comments she made during a red carpet appearance at Variety Hitmakers event in Hollywood over the weekend.
In Variety‘s November cover story, Billie said, “I have deep connections with women in my life, the friends in my life, the family in my life. I’m physically attracted to them. But I’m also so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence.”
Then, during the Hitmakers red carpet, she was asked about the response to the cover story, responding, “I’m still scared of them, but I think they’re pretty.” When she was asked if she didn’t mean to come out, she said, “No I didn’t, but then I kinda thought, ‘Wasn’t it obvious?’ I didn’t realize people didn’t know… I just don’t really believe in [coming out]. I’m just like, ‘Why can’t we just exist?’”
Of course, she wasn’t too enthused about being “outed” during the interview, writing in an Instagram post, “thanks variety for my award and for also outing me on a red carpet at 11 am instead of talking about anything else that matters i like boys and girls leave me alone about it please literally who cares stream ‘what was i made for’”
It doesn’t seem like she’s in too much of a rush to put a label on her sexuality — or even discuss it publicly — but “I like boys and girls” is as pretty clear as it gets. Now, someone, anyone ask these stars about their music, PLEASE!
