The 2024 Golden Globes wasn’t the only awards show this weekend. The winners at the Creative Arts Emmys, which were handed out over the course of two nights, include Weird: The Al Yankovic Story for Outstanding Television Movie; I Think You Should Leave for Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama, or Variety Series; and Password‘s Keke Palmer for Outstanding Host for a Game Show (the first time the category hasn’t gone to a man in 15 years).

But the biggest winner was The Last of Us. The HBO series took home trophies in eight different categories, including Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for Nick Offerman in the best episode of the season.

“Well, friends, I won an Emmy art trophy last night for my guest star role HBO’s gorgeous rendition of a Craig Mazin script. I am very grateful for this plaudit but it’s also hard to fully swallow since my work was in a full partnership with the magnificent @murray.bartlett,” Offerman wrote on Instagram, referring to his co-star Murray Bartlett (who was also nominated). “I prepared some remarks that I was able to mostly deliver, with a couple of flubs due to my emotions running high, so I thought I’d publish my speech which they generously let me finish. Thanks again to all the strawberry fans.”

You can read the speech (including Offerman referring to the Aussie-born Bartlett as “the Girth from Perth”) below.

Electronic Sensation Opiuo Shares His Ultimate Travel Guide To Melbourne, Australia

opiuo, australia, melbourne
OPIUO/MERLE COOPER/UPROXX

It’s been eight months since Australia-based electronic maestro Opiuo stunned fans with his unforgettable sold-out Red Rocks Amphitheatre performance and just under three months since he released his live music marvel, Opiuo & The Opulent Orchestra.

Spanning 19 total tracks, the digital album boasts 16 electrifying orchestral arrangements seamlessly married to the celebrated producer’s iconic funk-infused basslines, recorded live from his headlining Red Rocks Amphitheatre extravaganza last May. While everyone is out there trying to do “the best new thing,” there’s certainly something to be said for blending old and new — infusing hard-hitting electronic beats with the classic, live compositions of symphony musicians.

The defining live album is the prelude to an exciting year ahead for Opiuo, who saw one of his busiest years to date in 2023. The producer essentially saw most of the past 12 months spent selling out venues across the United States, all the while focusing on conducting 22 musicians for his premiere Red Rocks show. For the first half of 2024, the producer be back in his home country of Australia.

To prepare for Opiuo’s homebound return to Down Under, he’s built a personalized guide on where to stay, eat, and party in one of his favorite cities in the world, Melbourne.

“Melbourne is full of so much wonder, grit, vibe, and charm,” Opiuo told Uproxx. “It’s home to so many nationalities and cultures, something that makes it one of my favorite cities in the world. People doing so many different creative things, the colorful street art, a vibrant life! It’s all there, and it’s all to be discovered and explored.”

Best Place To Sleep & Stay

melbourne, australia, fitzroy
OPIUO

When in Melbourne I’m usually staying with friends but on the occasional staying-out adventure I grab an Airbnb in Fitzroy. Its a suburb close to the city but surrounded by many bars and cafes. Easy walking distance to lots of good places or jump on a tram to get further.

Its usually bustling and plenty of shopping if that’s your thing!

Best Place to Hydrate in the Morning

melbourne, australia, plug nickel
OPIUO

I’m an absolute sucker for a great double shot flat white [a flat white is less frothy than a traditional cappuccino, has less milk than an American-style latte, and has more milk and froth than a tiny cortado]. No one does it better than Plug Nickel on Peel St in Collingwood. Perfect smooth texture and delicious espresso! The cafe is a great place to hang.

They also have a bar that’s open in the evenings and serve a delicious breakfast bun. I’m hooked!

Best Breakfast/Bunch Spot

melbourne, australia, short round
OPIUO

Melbourne has so many cafes that there are literally a million incredible breakfast spots. If I had to pick one today it’s Short Round in Thornbury. I love their jalapeño folded omelet with goat feta. It’s delicious and always perfectly cooked. Sharp, fresh, spicy, yet smooth. So good!

Best Daytime Hangout

Can’t go past a good day hang in Edinburgh Gardens in Fitzroy North. I’ve spent so many sunny days in this park. Whether it be partying, chilling, eating, sporting, skating, or listening to music. It’s always packed with epic vibes. Lots of good food not too far away for when the belly rumbles.

melbourne, australia, nvg
OPIUO

Also love a good wander around the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). Often some really awesome exhibitions on. Changing regularly. Love some colorful inspiration from there.

Best Place for Mid-Day Snack Grab

A favorite pub for lunch would have to be Edinborough Castle on Sydney Road in Brunswick. I usually get the Kangaroo Steak or a lighter salad. Great grimy, casual atmosphere. Pubs are a gem of Australia in general and an awesome spot to just hang with friends all afternoon!

Tastiest Dinner Spot

melbourne, australia, future future
OPIUO

You must check out Future Future in Richmond. My favourite Japanese restaurant in Australia I would say! Futuristic menu, packed with delicious items. I’m always blown away by the flavors and presentation. The vibe is next to none too.

Great drinks and plenty of different rooms to dine in. Sitting in front of the chef is epic to see it all come together and to your plate.

Nightlife Scene

melbourne, australia, the forum
OPIUO

My favorite venue to play and also go see shows is The Forum in the city. The energy in this room is immense. Super high ceilings complete with gargoyles and castle-like structures make it feel otherworldly. I’ve seen some mind-blowing performances there, and also performed with my Syzygy Orchestra. A real venue.

Late at night I’d go to one of the smallest venues in the city “QQQ St. Park” in Collingwood. I’d say around 100 people fit but holy shit the sound system is next level. They are very new, but they book great underground electronic music. And when it’s in an intimate setting like that, it’s the best!

Shannon Sharpe Lit Up Jameis Winston For Going Rogue And Running The Ball Out Of Victory Formation

shannon sharpe
ESPN

The ending of the Falcons and Saints game on Sunday afternoon was far spicier than anyone expected once New Orleans opened up a big lead in the fourth quarter. That’s because, up 41-17, the Saints offense with backup Jameis Winston in the game as quarterback went rogue and called an inside handoff for Jamaal Williams on the goal line out of victory formation.

Falcons coach Arthur Smith, who was fired later that night, was furious and cussed out Saints coach Dennis Allen at midfield afterwards. Allen then started his postgame presser by apologizing to Smith and saying he was right to be mad, saying he called for the Saints to take a knee but the offense chose to get Williams in the end zone instead. While I have to admit it was kind of funny, it was also not really a fair play, not because they ran a play in that situation but because they ran it out of the victory formation.

Shannon Sharpe explained why that is the part that crossed the line on First Take on Monday morning, as he absolutely lit up Jameis Winston, saying the Saints should’ve cut him immediately and saying he has a “loser’s mentality” because when you’re in victory formation the defense naturally lets up.

Theatrics aside of saying the Saints should cut Winston — he is an unrestricted free agent this summer, so they don’t need to do anything to let him go — Sharpe makes a good point about the victory formation part. The defense is expecting knees and is just ready to let the clock run out, so if you want to change it up and run a play there, actually line up in a real formation and run the ball with the defense ready for it.

Sharpe continued on by torching Winston’s “loser’s mentality,” and noted that he doesn’t see how Dennis Allen stays in charge because it shows the team has no respect for him. That is a particularly interesting part of this, because saying it was a “team decision,” as Jameis did after the game, doesn’t really fly in most locker rooms. You don’t just go rogue and make decisions against the coach’s call, especially in a moment like that, and Sharpe’s right that it’s hard to see how Allen remains in charge with there clearly not having his voice carry the loudest in that locker room.

Ariana Grande’s New Album For 2024: Everything We Know So Far Including A Possible Release Date

Ariana Grande November 2023
Getty Image

For Uproxx’s “Most Anticipated Albums Of 2024” list, I wrote about Ariana Grande’s next album: “While Grande’s most recent album was 2020’s Positions, I desperately want — no, need — AG7‘s tracklist to lead with “Thank U, Next (Pt. II),” updating the famed first verse that name-checked Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, Pete Davidson, and Mac Miller to now include Dalton Gomez and Ethan Slater.” And I stand by that, especially after Grande’s latest updates about one of the more anticipated LPs in pop.

Below is everything we know (so far).

Is Ariana Grande Releasing A New Album In 2024?

Yes, thank God. On December 27, Grande captioned an Instagram carousel, “see you next year,” which all but confirmed a 2024 release for her seventh LP.

Will Ariana Grande Release A Single For Her New Album?

Over the weekend, Grande confirmed that she will release her rumored single, “Yes, And?,” this Friday, January 12, as the presumed lead single from her forthcoming album. Early this morning, January 8, Grande posted the same blurry, close-up portrait that had been circulating for days to her Instagram Story (yet again), with one clarification, “p.s. I couldn’t wait any longer to tell you that although this is not the album title, it is indeed the album cover (well…….one of them!)”

Ariana Grande IG Story 2024
@arianagrande on Instagram

When Will Ariana Grande’s New Album Come Out?

While Grande set a release date for “Yes, And?,” she has not confirmed a release date for AG7.

Does Ariana Grande’s New Album Have A Tracklist?

Nope! All we have to go off for now is “Yes, And?.”

Will Ariana Grande’s New Album Have Features?

Again, we don’t know yet. In due time.

What Is The Album Cover For Ariana Grande’s New Album?

As covered above, at least one of the album covers is the Katia Temkin-shot close-up photograph of Grande, sporting bright red lipstick. Grande has not yet revealed other cover art.

Will Ariana Grande Go On Tour For Her New Album?

Considering Grande has only announced one single to this point, it’s unsurprising that Grande’s tour plans are unknown as of this writing.

What Did Jo Koy Say About His Taylor Swift Joke At The 2024 Golden Globes?

Taylor Swift 2024 Golden Globes
Getty Image

The job Jo Koy did hosting the 2024 Golden Globes last night (on extremely short notice, by the way) was not exactly beloved by all. In particular, a joke he told about Taylor Swift wasn’t well-received. He said, “As you know, we came on after a football doubleheader. The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL: On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift,” and Swift offered a cold reaction.

Now that the dust has settled, what is Koy’s perspective on the situation?

What did Jo Koy say about his Taylor Swift joke at the 2024 Golden Globes?

In an interview on the red carpet at Billboard‘s Golden Globes afterparty, Entertainment Tonight asked Koy about Swift’s reaction to his joke, and he said with a laugh, “Aww man… it was cute! I was just saying… it was cute! I was just saying, it’s less cutaways, you know what I mean? That’s all!”

Then, on Good Morning America‘s GMA3 this morning, Koy was asked if there was a specific moment from his hosting stint he feels bad about, and he responded, “I think it was when the Taylor one was just a little flat… It was a weird joke, I guess. But it was more on the NFL… I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways and how the Globes didn’t have to do that. So it was more of a jab toward the NFL. But it just didn’t come out that way.”

Jared Muros Looks Backs On The Best Streetwear Fits He Saw In 2023

Fashion
Jared Muros/Uproxx

It’s 2024 and Jared Muros is already out here in the streets, profiling the world’s most fashionable people, running toy drives and clothing giveaways, and vibing with the people. We’ve profiled this self-made fashion icon, musician, model, casting director, interviewer, and content creator (Muros does everything, that’s literally his Instagram bio) before and found that, of his many talents, perhaps top among them is his unique way of penetrating into the person behind the look. You can tell a lot about someone’s personality in the way they dress and Muros nails that in his interviews.

Let us be clear here, we don’t mean the clothes you wear or the brands you represent — anyone can buy a brand — we’re talking about the way you style it. The way people consciously (or subconsciously) express themselves through fashion. Muros can spot that in a second, which is why his best content sees him interfacing with the most stylish people he finds on the streets.

2023 saw Muros’ star rise rapidly. He did a shoot with Adidas and launched his own EmoInion backpack and it’s taken him to a lot of places, from his hometown in Los Angeles to New York City Fashion Week, San Francisco, Miami, Paris, and more. Next year, Muros plans on continuing his travels, taking things to Europe, Japan, Toronto and Mexico.

“Traveling the world, looking at all the different outfits and the styles people have to offer has been an eye-opening experience for what I do, not just culturally, but fashion-wise. Everywhere is so different,” says Muros.

So to check the pulse on what people are wearing around the world as the new year gets kicking in full, we hit up Muros to look back on 11 of his favorite fits of 2023 and provide some brief commentary about what makes them work. Let’s dive in!

Jared Muros’ Favorite Fits Of 2023 (In No Particular Order)

I’m going to start with this video of these two guys that I found in New York, this was back in February in front of one of the most coveted fashion stores, Second Street. I love both of the specific outfits because it’s the perfect mix of high-end fashion and everyday clothes.

This first dude is wearing an LGB jacket, which is a very high-end fashion brand with Dickies shorts that you could literally buy for $15. The other guy is wearing Dirk Bikkembergs shoes, and then he’s mixing it up with a Band-Aid. It’s just a perfect mix of high-end with the streets.

This next one is a girl that I found in New York during Fashion Week. Her entire outfit was thrifted or inexpensive, but it looked high-end and something that you would see on the runway.

We’re going to move our way on to Miami, This is COZYRAF, he’s a really big content creator who does stuff in the fashion game. And I love this outfit because he got his hand on a pair of the brand new Rick Owens boots that just came out, the collaboration with Moncler, and he put the outfit together the day after.

This is a fit that you wouldn’t really see being worn in Miami just because of the weather. He’s wearing fuzzy boots. He’s wearing a jacket, but he just makes it work, and it does give a cool, futuristic, alien-esque vibe.

Next, we’re coming back to Los Angeles at Camp Flog Gnaw Music Festival when I did a fit check with Nardwuar. If you’re not familiar with him, he’s a huge interviewer who’s been doing interviews and stuff in the music scene since the nineties, so being able to get an outfit video with him was definitely amazing, and just seeing his style, just being older and still keeping it young and fresh, he’s been dressing the same way like his entire life in every single interview, which is pretty dope.

Next, we’re keeping it up in Los Angeles. This is a video I did on the streets with this dude named Scar, and he’s just wearing a super down-to-earth, Los Angeles fit. And these are the type of outfits that I really love because it shows what people are actually wearing in the streets of LA and not just the areas of LA where all the transplants are. This is real East LA, Boyle Heights area with the red, and he’s wearing the Dickies, the Nike Cortez’s, and that’s just what makes his outfit perfect.

Next, we’re hitting Paris. This is a video I did in front of the Rick Owens runway fashion show. This represents what makes Europe and Paris great when it comes to Fashion Week because this kid was wearing an entire high-end customized fashion outfit, but he didn’t know anything he was wearing. A lot of it, he’s like, “Hey, my parents gave it to me. I’m just coming to the show with them. Don’t know what I’m wearing.” But that’s just kind of how it is out there with the high-end, old-money fashion.

His mom was wearing a completely amazing custom piece.

We’re bringing it back to New York here with one of my friends, Tatiana, and I thought that this was funny because she was just coming out of the ambulance. She got a little sick, and as soon as she was coming out, she still had her outfit from Fashion Week, coming back from the runway. I think it’s hilarious.

We’re going up to the Bay in San Francisco with this guy that I interviewed. His name was Little Foot, he told me, but he was wearing custom diabetic shoes, but he just made it work perfectly with everything that he was wearing. The customized patchwork, his hat, the pants, and everything, this isn’t an outfit that you can just go into the store and buy. This is just really his vibe and something that he created uniquely on his own. And it does scream “San Francisco” when you look at it.

We’re coming back to LA here with Chaos, Mr. Avant Garde. This is a very unique outfit, and I’ve not seen many people ever dress like this. He had a good mix of the super baggy pants, big chunky shoes, and the tiny, tiny sweater that’s just coming up to his chest with the boxers coming out, matching the JNCO, the orange with the oranges. He definitely has a unique look and style.

And then we’re going to Guadalajara, Mexico with this video that I did at a Carnaval in Tepabril. These little furry boots are something that you would see here in Hollywood or even in some of the places in New York. I also love the crazy makeup. She wore a customized tee. It really shows that fashion is a universal language. This video is in Spanish, but you don’t need to speak any specific language to understand what makes a good outfit or what makes somebody look good and feel good in their clothing.

We’re doing this video right here with Izzy, and it’s just a completely thrifted vintage outfit. I love the look. It gives me Jimi Hendrix vibes. You could tell that he loves the style that he’s wearing. He’s very passionate about everything he is wearing and I love his style. This is someone I personally know, and he dresses like this every single day, no matter what.

And the last outfit of the day is HUBANE in New York. This is all customized by him. He’s a fashion designer and I just think that it’s great because it gives very supervillain-uniqueness-fashion-high-end-runway vibes, and really, I’ve never seen a fashion brand do what he’s doing. So I really just want to salute him for literally being out on the streets every day wearing his clothes like this.

‘The Jinx’ Season 2: Everything To Know Including The Release Date, Cast, Trailer, & More Info

The Jinx
HBO

A 2015 HBO docuseries, The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst, happens to be one of the most fascinating true crime entries of the past decade. The culmination of this series actually ended up being the real estate heir’s arrest and his off-camera declaration of “What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course.” Durst subsequently went to prison and died behind bars in 2022, but while the six episodes of The Jinx filmed, no one knew whether he’d ever pay for his fatal crimes.

Fast forward to late 2023, and HBO revealed that a second season of The Jinx (with the first one available to stream on Max) was actually on the way. What’s left to uncover in more episodes? Let’s talk it out.

Plot

When the initial series debuted, Durst had long since (and repeatedly) been accused of murder, although he always skated from these accusations due to insufficient evidence. The initial crime in question involved the 1982 disappearance of his first wife, Kathleen McCormack Durst. The scion also killed two other people, Morris Black and Susan Berman, with the latter murder being the crime that he ultimately served time for committing after being arrested on the day before the first season finale aired. This was admittedly an unexpected development, given that Durst was repeatedly connected with the gruesome circumstances of the latter two murders, seemingly to no avail. Definitive prosecution always eluded his case until The Jinx put the final nail into his coffin, so to speak.

The first season of The Jinx included an extensive dive into archival footage and police files as whittled down by director Andrew Jarecki, and Durst’s late-breaking confession (as recorded in a New Orleans hotel lobby) shocked the HBO audience, since the show prompted a reinvestigation — based upon evidence gathered and brought to light by the project’s filmmakers — that finally led to his conviction.

However, the filmmakers, including Jarecki, did not consider their jobs done. They persisted in digging up more archival footage and gathering Durst’s phone calls from prison while also interviewing experts and relevant subjects who didn’t appear in the first season of The Jinx. Given that the show earned an Emmy (for Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Series and Outstanding Picture Editing For Nonfiction Programming) and was nominated for five others, HBO saw fit to greenlight another six episodes for a second season.

Little else is known about where The Jinx will go next, other than picking up with how citizen investigators led to a murderer finally being punished.

Cast

Obviously, there will be plenty of Robert Durst footage and audio in this batch of episodes. We can also expect to hear from law enforcement and those who worked behind the scenes on researching Durst’s chilling acts before, during, and after the airing of The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst.
