Should Billie Eilish find herself asking, “What Was I Made For?” — the title of her and Finneas’ Barbie single — I hope she stumbles upon this post on X (formerly Twitter) by Keith Nelson Jr.: “Billie Eilish has been able to legally drink alcohol for one year and has one of the most decorated careers in music history.” Zero lies told. Seven Grammys, two Golden Globes, one Oscar. And her most recent Golden Globe victory came on Sunday night, January 7, when she and Finneas accepted Best Original Song, Motion Picture for “What Was I Made For?”

Eilish handled the one-minute-long acceptance speech. “You know, it was exactly a year ago, almost, that we were shown the movie, and I was very, very miserable and depressed at the time,” she said, in part. “Writing that song kind of saved me a little bit, and a year later, here we are. And it’s really surreal. I feel incredibly, incredibly lucky and grateful.” Eilish ended on a joke (?) about the star-power in the room, noting, “You guys scare the living hell out of me — everyone in this room — but thank you so much.”

Of course, objective onlookers can see that Eilish has no reason to feel intimidated. To equate critical acclaim, fame, and accolades to self-esteem would be stupid, but for the sake of this article, it is worth noting that “What Was I Made For?” is nominated four times at the upcoming 2024 Grammys and is expected to receive a nod at the 2024 Oscars as well.

Eilish’s forthcoming third solo album is among Uproxx’s “Most Anticipated Albums Of 2024” list, as Finneas relayed the LP is “85 percent done” within a Mr. Porter profile published last month. However, over the weekend, Eilish and Finneas gave a more specific update to The Associated Press.

“It’s happening,” Eilish said. “We are almost finished, by days, with this album, but it’s not coming out soon. Soon-ish.” Finneas added, “We’re just almost done making it.”

Draymond Green was reinstated by the NBA on Sunday, rejoining the Warriors team after what became a 12-game suspension following his latest incident in which he swung around wildly and hit Jusuf Nurkic in the face.

It was the second suspension Green was given for crossing the line on the court, having served a 5-game suspension for choking out Rudy Gobert during an altercation earlier in the season. After that punishment, Green was defiant, angry that the league was punishing him for past actions and felt they were not being fair to him. However, his tone was considerably different after hitting Nurkic, as he agreed to seek some professional help for his anger issues and impulse control on the floor as part of the agreement for his indefinite suspension.

On Monday, Green brought back his podcast with Volume Sports and in his first episode back he detailed the conversations he had with the league and how Adam Silver talked him out of retiring.

“I told him, ‘Adam this is too much for me. … This is too much. It’s all becoming too much for me — and I’m going to retire,’” Green said. “And Adam said, ‘You’re making a very rash decision and I won’t let you do that.’ We had a long, great conversation — very helpful to me. Very thankful to play in a league with a commissioner like Adam who’s more about helping you than hurting you…helping you than punishing you. He’s more about the players.”

In the immediate aftermath there were a few small rumblings that Green might call it a career, but those went away pretty quickly and it seems that’s because there was some consideration of that in the moment by Draymond but he was quickly talked out of it. It would have been a pretty sad way for Green’s career to come to an end, and hopefully he can write a much better final chapter of his career than getting constantly suspended for crossing the line on the court. The Warriors certainly need his presence and need him at his best, and the next month will likely determine how they proceed with Green back in the fold, as they need to assess what changes must be made at the deadline to try and maximize this roster.

Looking for an anime that’s also a cooking show? I didn’t think I was either until I watched the first episode of Studio Trigger’s Delicious in Dungeon on Netflix.

Based on the beloved and recently-concluded manga by Ryōko Kui, Delicious in Dungeon is about a group of adventurers in a Dungeons and Dragons-like campaign who are forced to get creative with their culinary options. In the first episode, they eat Huge Scorpion and Walking Mushroom Hotpot, which tastes better than it sounds (don’t forget the slime!).

Netflix is bypassing their all-at-once binge model (thank you, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fans) in favor of weekly, single-serving episodes on Thursdays. There’s only one episode on the streaming service so far, so it’s easy to catch up.

The series will see Echo confront her past and lock horns with Daredevil (Charlie Cox) in the highly-anticipated new MCU outing from showrunner Sydney Freeland.

What Time Will ‘Echo’ Come Out?

Following in the footsteps of Ahsoka and Loki, Echo will premiere during Tuesday night primetime at 9 PM ET/6 PM ET on January 9. However, here’s where things switch up. Echo will be release its full season at once (five episodes in total) and also stream on Hulu where it may find a wider audience to thanks its TV-MA rating, a first for the latest batch of MCU series.

Streaming exclusively on Disney, the origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.

Christopher Nolan set the internet afire last week after sharing a hilarious anecdote about a Peloton instructor who trashed Tenet while he was attending her (virtual) class. Social media sleuths quickly went to work finding the class and instructor, Jenn Sherman, who made a response video apologizing to Nolan and inviting him to get a little revenge by personally critiquing one of her upcoming classes.

Naturally, the viral topic came up at the Golden Globes, and Nolan quickly defused the situation with self-deprecating wit.

“Nothing but love for Peloton,” Nolan said backstage at the Globes via Variety. “But I did not climb on it today. I might just skip it for a little while.”

The whole online kerfuffle started during an acceptance speech at the New York Film Critics Circle where Nolan shared a humorous story about having one of his movies panned during a workout:

“I was on my Peloton. I’m dying. And the instructor started talking about one of my films and said, ‘Did anyone see this? That’s a couple hours of my life I’ll never get back again!’” Nolan said. “When [film critic] Rex Reed takes a sh*t on your film he doesn’t ask you to work out!”

While Nolan didn’t specify which movie, internet sleuths found the class where Sherman opens up by trashing Tenet, which many Nolan-heads also agreed did not make a whole lot of sense.

“Someone’s got to explain this. Yeah I’m not kidding, what the f*ck was going on in that movie?” Sherman says with no idea that Nolan was in the class. “Seriously, you need to be a neuroscientist to understand. And that’s two and a half hours of my life that I want back.”

After the video went viral, Sherman posted an apology to Instagram where she didn’t back down on her thoughts about Tenet, but she did gush about Oppenheimer which she saw twice in the theater. She also invited the director to personally attend one of her sessions.

“You can critique my class. We’ll have a great time,” Sherman said. “You’ll sit front row and I promise you, it will be insult free!”

On November 29, Rod Wave’s Nostalgia Tour hit Kia Forum in Los Angeles, California, and Ari Lennox performed her opening set. Everything was fine and good until someone in the audience chucked a water bottle at Lennox and hit her arm.

Video of the incident went viral, mainly because Lennox let the person have it, saying, in part, “Who the f*ck did it? I’ll f*ck your ass up. ‘Cause I don’t play that. I’m a real-ass b*tch, and I will f*ck your sh*t all the way the f*ck up. Don’t you ever disrespect a beautiful Black woman on the f*cking stage like that.”

On Sunday, January 7, Lennox went on Instagram Live and explained that her Nostalgia Tour frustrations extended far beyond that moment.

“I was never comfortable,” Lennox said, as captured by Complex. “I just remember, every show, just racing to get off stage — racing to get through my set. And then, I found the spot where I was comfortable, and I started trying to communicate with the audience, and then, when I realized they were getting angry at me affirming them? I was like, OK, this is — you’re getting angry that I’m affirming you? This is not my crowd, and it’ll never be. And that’s alright. That’s alright, you know what I mean?”

Lennox continued, “It was tough. Like, it was tough. And it was heavy on my soul — feeling that energy — especially the day when the bottle happened because that side of the stage? Like, I felt the energy. I wasn’t surprised that it happened. I felt it. First of all, it was just all darkness. That’s literally the energy that was coming from the left side.”

There’s no hard feelings between Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone.

Lawrence was up for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical at the 2024 Golden Globes for her performance in No Hard Feelings, alongside Stone for Poor Things, Fantasia Barrino for The Color Purple, Natalie Portman for May December, Alma Pöysti for Fallen Leaves, and Margot Robbie for Barbie. As the nominee’s names were being announced and the camera cut to Lawrence, she mouthed, “If I don’t win, I’m leaving!” directly to the camera.

It went over better than anything in Jo Koy’s monologue.

Lawrence stuck around when Best Actress went to Stone, deservedly so. The two are long-time friends:

Stone and Lawrence have been friends for years and owe their longstanding relationship to Woody Harrelson, who worked with Stone in 2009’s Zombieland and later worked with Lawrence on the 2010s Hunger Games movies. “[Stone] texted me that she got my number from Woody,” Lawrence told Vanity Fair in a 2016 cover story. “I replied, ‘F*ck off!’ And we’ve been really good friends ever since.”

Lawrence even appeared to call Stone “mother” after she won. Or maybe she was yelling her favorite Darren Aronofsky movie that she starred in. Who’s to say?

It was a good night for The Bear at the Golden Globes. The FX (on Hulu) sleeper hit won the overall award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Jeremy Allen White took home the corresponding Best Actor award with Ayo Edebiri owning her Best Actress award in the same category.

What did the cast face while backstage after the ceremony, though? Well, the Extra room got awkward when a journalist decided to whip out — while interviewing the entire The Bear cast — one of Jeremy Allen White’s shots from his recent jacked underwear ad campaign for Calvin Klein: “What went through your mind when y’all saw this?” Ayo’s face tells the story here:

Those photos recently set the Internet’s loins aflame, but man, what an awkward moment. And Ayo immediately reacted with a downcast face and had no qualms about shutting this question down. She stepped up, took the cardboard with White looking like an Ancient Greek statue, and turned it around to face the wall. Then she explained why: “This is my boy! It’s a work function, you know what I mean?”

Surely, no one could blame Ayo for doing so. Abby Elliott can also be heard exclaiming, “This is our family!” so it’s safe to say that they were defending their good friend from having his TV work downplayed by, you know, also being jacked in underwear while sporting his The Iron Claw physique. For his part, White seemed to take the situation in stride, but remember, there’s not much room for Carmy being sexy, y’all. White is saving that for the billboards.

Comedian and actor Jo Koy hosted the 2024 Golden Globes last night (January 7), and his joke about Taylor Swift, but more so her reaction to it, is making headlines.

At one point during the show, Koy said, “As you know, we came on after a football doubleheader. The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL: On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear.”

There was some light, scattered laughter from the audience as the broadcast cut to a shot of Taylor Swift. She was either truly not amused or giving a Globe-worthy acting performance, sporting a stern, glaring expression and taking a sip of her drink.

Swift recently addressed backlash from NFL fans over the extensive media coverage of her presence at games, saying in a December interview, “I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”

Koy himself acknowledged that his jokes weren’t necessarily all landing, telling the audience at one point, “I got the gig 10 days ago! You want a perfect monologue?” Indeed, Koy was a last-minute hire for the show and had less than two weeks to prepare.

Swift, meanwhile, was part of another viral moment from the evening, although it didn’t happen on stage: Videos from the event show Selena Gomez telling Swift and Keleigh Teller something that got animated reactions, which some believe to be about Kylie Jenner refusing to let her take a photo with Timothée Chalamet.

A new Ariana Grande era is finally upon us: After much speculation, Grande has finally announced that her next single is called “Yes, And?” and it’s set to drop this Friday, January 12.

There has also been some belief that the song title is also the name of Grande’s upcoming album, but is that really the case?

It is not, no.

On Instagram yesterday (January 7), Grande shared a blurry image of herself and wrote, “yes, and? [heart] 1.12.” She also shared a pre-save/pre-order link. Then, in an Instagram Story posted this morning, Grande re-shared her post and wrote, “p.s. i couldn’t wait any longer to tell you that although this is not the album title, it is indeed the album cover (well. ….one of them!).”

So, at the moment, we do not know the title of Grande’s upcoming seventh album, but we do know what one of the album covers looks like (presumably, there will be multiple editions of the album, based on Grande’s phrasing).

Before last year ended, Grande looked back on her 2023, writing, “one of the most transformative, most challenging, and yet happiest and most special years of my life. there were so many beautiful and yet polarized feelings.”
