Halle Bailey & DDG Welcomed Their First Child

The Little Mermaid actress Halle Bailey and “Way Too Petty” rapper DDG’s relationship have been online detective’s favorite hobby. Due to the unwanted attention and often negative criticism they’ve accrued, the pair have attempted to throw the public off their trail. They even appear to have fed reporters claims that they had broken up.

Eventually they made it clear that they were, in fact, still an item with a string of baecation photos across their respective social media pages. Another lingering rumor was that the couple was expecting their first child. DDG attempted to dismiss the online batter by recording a trolling video featuring a baby doll and even a younger family member. However, on Saturday, January 6, after weeks of speculation, the pair confirmed that they did in fact welcome their first child together.

“Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me was bring me my son,” wrote Bailey in an Instagram post. “Welcome to the world, my halo 🥰👼🏽 ✨the world is desperate to know you 😉🤣♥.”

“My biggest blessing by far 👶🏽❤ son son.. never been so in love 🥹 baby halo,” penned DDG in an upload of his own.

The picture shared by the first-time parents showed the newborn grasping onto their fingers, with a custom engraved gold bracelet revealing his name.

Jodie Foster Thinks Gen Z Can Be ‘Really Annoying’ To Work With: ‘They’re Like, ‘Nah, I’m Not Feeling It Today’

jodie-foster.jpg

Jodie Foster is happy to be a mentor to young performers. After all, she was once one of them. The Oscar-winning actress began as a child star, successfully making the transition into adult fare. She wants to make sure the industry doesn’t destroy them. That said, she can’t help but admit the kids these days can be a bit of a pill.

“They’re really annoying, especially in the workplace,” Foster admitted in a recent Guardian profile. “They’re like, ‘Nah, I’m not feeling it today, I’m gonna come in at 10.30am.’”

Sometimes it’s their writing style that sets Foster off: “Or, like, in emails, I’ll tell them this is all grammatically incorrect, did you not check your spelling? And they’re like, ‘Why would I do that, isn’t that kind of limiting?’”

So the actress, now headlining the latest batch of True Detective, finds Gen Z a bit perplexing. That doesn’t stop her from helping them out.

“I do a lot of reaching out to young actresses,” she said. “I’m compelled. Because it was hard growing up.”

She also looked back on how different things were for her growing up in the ‘70s and ‘80s:

Could she have worn a suit and had a severe middle parting with no makeup when she was coming up as a young actor? “No,” she says. “Because we weren’t free. Because we didn’t have freedom. And hopefully that’s what the vector of authenticity that’s happening offers – the possibility of real freedom. We had other things that were good. And I would say: I did the best I could for my generation. I was very busy understanding where I fitted in and where I wanted to be in terms of feminism. But my lens wasn’t wide enough. I lived in an incredibly segregated world.”

True Detective: Night Country begins airing episodes on HBO on Sunday, Jan. 14.

QAnon Shaman Wants The Government To Give Him Back His Iconic Horns Now That He’s Out Of Prison

QAnon Shaman Jacob Chansley
Getty Image

There were a lot of kooky characters the day of the Jan. 6 riot: the Coors Light guy; the influencer who livestreamed her illegal antics; the wine club enthusiast; the regional Jesus Christ Superstar performer; the brilliant Mr. Show and Bob’s Burgers alum. But none made their mark like QAnon Shaman. His real name is Jacob Chansley, and he’s since served his time for storming the Capitol building, though he isn’t fully reformed. Now that he’s out, he wants something returned to him: his iconic horns.

“They’re keeping it like it’s evidence,” Chansley told The Daily Beast of his massive headdress, which can be seen in some of the more surreal images from that day. “The case is over, so there’s no reason for them to continue holding onto it.”

He added, “It’s rather upsetting that they’re not doing what the government is supposed to do and returning the property.”

Chansley pointed out that he didn’t buy the headdress to break into the Capitol building in an attempt to thwart democracy. “Dude, I’ve been dressing that way for over 10 years,” he said.

The headdress, a furry top with giant protruding out from both sides, was part of Chansley’s overall ostentatious get-up, which was also comprised of red, white, and blue face paint and no shirt, all the better to show off his elaborate tats. It made Chansley easy to identify, turning him into the most overtly ridiculous perpetrator lured to the Capitol that day by people like exiting president Donald J. Trump, who’s running again despite his very broken brain.

‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Season 1: Everything To Know About The Netflix Remake Including The Release Date, Trailer, & More Info

Avatar The Last Airbender
Netflix

Netflix‘s live-action adaptation track record had a few rough years (Cowboy Bebop, Death Note), but all of that changed with One Piece. Viewers reveled in the visuals and vibe that brought that ragingly popular manga to live as Monkey D. Luffy began his quest to become the pirate king by hunting for a prized and elusive treasure. Now, the streamer takes on a particularly fraught challenge: to adapt intellectual property that has already been done dirty on one occasion by M. Night Shyamalan’s live-action film.

Outside of that blunder, the animated Avatar: The Last Airbender series fared enormously well on Nickelodeon and paved the way for the beloved Legend Of Korra followup. So, Netflix decided to take the plunge with their own Avatar: The Last Airbender show, which will soon debut in bingeworthy format. The jury is obviously still out on quality, but here’s what we know so far.

Plot

Avatar: The Last Airbender
Netflix

Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender is officially billed as “a live-action reimagining of the award-winning and beloved Nickelodeon animated series,” so that everyone can hopefully forget about the Shyamalan effort. The story takes place in a world where the four nations (represented by the elements of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air) no longer live in harmony. This debacle resulted with the Fire Nation destroyed the Air Nomads in an effort to take over the world.

It’s now up to a young Air Nomad, Aang, to become the next Avatar, who will be capable of ruling over and uniting over all elements, thereby restoring peace between the realms. The series follows Aang’s action-packed journey to rise to his hopeful position in a world that appeared to doubt that another Avatar could rise again, since the Air Nomads have essentially become extinct. In the process, Aang will have to dodge the Fire Nation’s Crown Prince Zuko, who aims to deter him from the task, so that Fire can rule.

Netflix has provided more from the official series synopsis:

With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to emerge, the world has lost hope. But like a light in the darkness, hope springs forth when Aang, a young Air Nomad — and the last of his kind — reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar. Alongside his newfound friends Sokka and Katara siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai … They’ll need the help of the many allies and colorful characters they meet along the way.

Cast

Avatar: The Last Airbender
Netflix

The lead role, Avatar Aang, will be portrayed by Gordon Cormier. Sokka, will be portrayed by Ian Ousley, and his sister Katara, will be picked up by Kiawentiio (Tarbell). June will be portrayed by Arden Cho, and Daniel Dae Kim will embody the Fire Lord, and Dallas Liu steps up as Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation.

What’s Popular On Streaming Now

True Detective Season 1
HBO

Every single week, our TV and film experts will list the most important ten streaming selections for you to pop into your queues. We’re not strictly operating upon reviews or accrued streaming clicks (although yes, we’ve scoured the streaming site charts) but, instead, upon those selections that are really worth noticing amid the churning sea of content. There’s a lot out there, after all, and your time is valuable.

TIE: 10. The Tourist (BBC One/former HBO Max series streaming on Netflix)

Netflix is known to resurrect series (Lucifer, You) that initially aired elsewhere and then nurture them for greater success on a new streaming home base. Heck, even the supposedly concluded Suits took on enough renewed life for a followup series to be greenlit. Now, The Tourist has switched its U.S.-streaming home from Max to Netflix (and still maintain its status on BBC One in the U.K.). As such, people are familiarizing themselves with an addictive show about Jamie Dornan’s character waking up in the Australian Outback and not knowing what the hell is going on, who he is, or why bad dudes are chasing him. Enjoy!

TIE: 10. Society Of The Snow (Netflix film)

‘Tis the season for holidays to yield to bleak winter weather in real life, so you might also be in the mindset to watch characters whose teeth are chattering even more than your own. This drama follows plane crash survivors who fight their way home after finding unexpectedly themselves navigating the unforgiving terrain of the Andes Mountains. And yes, this story follows the real-life ordeal of 1972 survivors who descended into cannibalism, and not everyone makes it out alive. Get your Yellowjackets fix here.

9. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (Lionsgate film streaming on VOD & Amazon Prime)

Coriolanus Snow wasn’t always the villain of Panem. In this prequel film, his younger incarnation (Tom Blyth) connects with District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a District 12 tribute who came years before Katniss Everdeen became the Girl on Fire. Lucy is the proverbial songbird of the film’s subtitle, and it’s up to viewers to tune in and find out about those snakes. Naturally, feelings exist to complicate matters, and viewers will learn at least part of why President Snow turned into such a horror show in his later years. Additionally, Hunter Schafer portrays Tigris, the cousin of Coriolanus and who later surfaces in Mockingjay as originally written by best-selling author Suzanne Collins.

8. Killers Of The Flower Moon (Apple TV+ movie)

Martin Scorsese’s newest masterpiece is now available to stream in your living room (on VOD) and will be available on Apple TV+ (which also produced here) beginning on January 12. The clicks are already coming, however, for this adaptation of David Grann’s nonfiction narrative saga that shines light on a horrific chapter in history. Lily Gladstone will likely earn an Oscar nod (and more) for her portrayal of Molly Burkhart, who found herself amid the carnage of the Osage murders. Leo DiCaprio’s accent is wild, and the film is harrowing, heartbreaking, and wholly worth watching.

7. The Holdovers (Focus Features film streaming on Peacock)

Paul Giamatti goes a little Sideways while reuniting with director Alexander Payne in this story about a holiday season gone wrong. The story follows a winter break on campus where a misanthropic, boozy teacher (Giamatti) finds himself among the other stragglers who didn’t make it home to the fam for assorted reasons. Together, a trio’s friendships end up reigning supreme and difficult conversations lead the day.

6. Slow Horses (Apple TV+ series)

Please let Gary Oldman enjoy food onscreen more often. Beyond the ice cream and noodles, it is sheer fun to watch the wheels fall off the British intelligence realm as Oldman farts away and attempts to lead his fellow agents after they ended up in professional purgatory. It’s a fabulous time to be a devoted fan of beloved books series that end up materializing onscreen, and not only are Percy and Mick Herronthe’s Slough Horses receiving their due, but Reacher is at the top of the pack, as we will discuss momentarily.

5. Saltburn (Lucky Chap/MRC/Lie Still film streaming on Amazon Prime)

The controversy will not stop for this movie, and a candle that allegedly smells like bathwater (from a now-infamous scene) is now available to skeeve people out even more with this satire. Definitely do not watch this movie with your relatives, but do make time to be hypnotized by Barry Keoghan and recall how much of a treasure that Rosamund Pike turns out to be in every role. Emerald Fennell loves to get a rise out of audience, and hopefully, she will soon reveal what she’s doing next.

4. Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child Of Fire (Netflix movie)

If Zack Snyder wasn’t going to be able to make an actual Star Wars movie, goshdarnit, he was going to write and direct a version that he considers close enough. There will eventually be a director’s cut on Netflix, too, because Snyder cannot do anything halfway or within a reasonable run time. Still, this director’s audience will inhale everything that he creates, and sadly, there’s no Tig Notaro setting loins aflame in this film, but this cast, including Charlie Hunnam, does its best to carry on that legacy.

3. Percy Jackson And The Olympians (Disney+ series)

Author Rick Riordan’s bestselling novels did simply alright at the box office for two films of yesteryear, and some were skeptical about whether a TV series could make things more right and even turn into the adaptation that the book series deserves. Well, Disney+ pulled this feat off admirably despite swimming upstream to do so. Ex-Percy actor Logan Lerman had his socks knocked off by what he has seen, and Riordan is pleased as punch, too. Sometimes, remakes can actually be worth the effort and investment.

2. True Detective (HBO series streaming on Max)

The fourth season, Night Country, will soon arrive to tear your little world apart, or at least make you shiver and inwardly scream while this series gets back to its roots with Jodie Foster starring in the most watchable installment since the McConaughey-Harrelson pairing. Foster stars as a dogged investigator who has seen some sh*t, and that sh*t gets stirred back up when an unsolved bunch of homicides isn’t the freeze-and-dried case that it might have initially seemed to be. Before that happens, revisit the stellar first season because, you know, “time is a flat circle.”

1. Reacher (Amazon Prime series)

This was the role that Alan Ritchson was born to portray, even though he first spent some time making Paula Abdul horny during a slight American Idol diversion. Ritchson isn’t quite 6’5″ but still perfectly embodies the Big Guy and will do so for future seasons to come. This week, his time with Dixon finally brings years of tension to a simmer and a boil, which is a fine way for Reacher to follow up on beating the hell out of a biker gang that will rue the day that they messed with the Special Investigators.

The Texans Clinched A Playoff Berth Thanks To A Colts Drop On 4th And 1

colts drop
ESPN

The Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts met on Saturday night in Indy with a rarity in the NFL, a true win or go home game in the final week of the regular season. While so many teams are dependent on other outcomes to determine their playoff scenarios, the two AFC South foes were both 9-7 and while they won’t know their seed until the end of Sunday, the winner of the game was assured a playoff spot and the loser was guaranteed to have their season end.

It was a tense, back-and-forth affair that saw Houston take control early with a touchdown on their first play of the game, but Gardner Minshew and the Colts battled back throughout the game, tying it at 17-17 in the fourth quarter. From there, Houston followed the lead of rookie sensation C.J. Stroud as he made a couple ridiculous throws under pressure on a late drive in the fourth quarter, getting the Texans into a goal-to-go situation to take the lead.

Devin Singletary would punch it in to push Houston ahead by six points, but a missed extra point led to some additional drama as the Colts could not only force overtime with a touchdown and extra point, but win it.

They quickly got into Houston territory on a Minshew pass to Josh Downs, and steadily worked the ball into the red zone with inside two minutes to play.

After Jonathan Taylor got stuffed on 3rd and 2, the Colts called timeout and dialed up what was a successful play design, working Tyler Goodson wide open out of the backfield, but Minshew’s pass was behind Goodson and the backup running back couldn’t haul it in for what would’ve been a first down (and, if it’d been in front of him, maybe more).

The drop led to distraught fans in Indy, who couldn’t believe that was how their season ended, particularly with Taylor on the sideline for the biggest play of the season and a third-stringer with no catches or rush attempts on the night in the game.

That point will undoubtedly be raised in Shane Steichen’s postgame presser, as to why Goodson was the choice of back, although it should be said it was certainly not entirely on him as Minshew’s pass wasn’t on target. It’s a gutwrenching way to lose for the Colts, who forced a three-and-out by the Texans on the ensuing possession, but Houston wisely just worked clock and ran out of the back of the end zone for a purposeful safety on the ensuing punt attempt with one second on the clock. The Colts never got far trying for a miracle pitchy pitchy woo woo, and Houston was able to celebrate an improbable playoff berth in the first year with DeMeco Ryans as coach.

Jadeveon Clowney Couldn’t Stop Dancing After A Sack Got Him A $750,000 Contract Bonus

jadeveon clowney
ESPN

Saturday afternoon’s game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t mean a whole lot for the home team, as Baltimore already wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the AFC and had the luxury of resting some guys. There was, however, one player on the Ravens who had a whole lot riding on this game, as veteran edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney had some money on the line in this one.

Basically, Clowney needed one sack to reach 9.5 on the year, which would tie a career high. More importantly, if Clowney got that sack, he’d earn a contract bonus worth $750,000. And with less than a minute remaining in the first half, Clowney got that sack, which means he’s guaranteed a major chunk of change. Unsurprisingly, he was in a pretty good mood after this, so he started dancing around on the field.

Now, I have never just gotten $750,000 for doing something, but my guess is that I’d have a pretty similar reaction. And as an added bonus, this ended up being a pretty impactful moment in the game, as this sack put Pittsburgh way behind the sticks as they were attempting to kick a field goal at the end of the first half. Two plays later and a strip sack on Mason Rudolph got recovered by the Ravens, which sent the two teams into the locker room at halftime tied 7-7.

KoreanBilly explains the differences between American and British accents

There’s an ongoing feud between people of the U.S. and Britain over who speaks correct English. Of course, the English invented the language which gives them an upper hand in the argument.

But Americans have a point when they bristle see words like “Leicester” being pronounced “Lester” or “Schedule” pronounced “Shed-joole” by the British. (Although, of course that’s what an American would say!) Then again, the English may be on to something when they describe New England accents as “grating.”

In the video below, a YouTuber known as KoreanBilly discusses the differences between American and British English pronunciation from the perspective of a Korean person. People learning English as a second language may not be aware of the differences in pronunciation between the dialects that native speakers pick up easily. Billy discusses the differences in how both types of speakers pronounce the T, H, R, O and A sounds. After a few minutes of listening to him, it’s easy to see why your dialect sounds foreign to someone from across the pond.

60 models. 12 sizes. One photo project to change how we view the human body.

Categories are great for some things: biology, herbs, and spices, for example.

Image via

But bodies? Well, putting bodies into categories just gets weird. There are around 300 million people in America, but only 12 or so standard sizes for clothing: extra-extra-small through 5x.

That’s why designer Mallorie Dunn is onto something with her belief — people have different bodies and sizing isn’t catching up.

Dunn has found that the majority of clothing sizes stop at an extra-large, yet the majority of women in America are over that. “And that just doesn’t make sense,” she says.

All images via Smart Glamor, used with permission.

Human spice rack, only, a LOT more variations of flava. 😉

That’s why she started a project around her clothing label, Smart Glamour, to document the bodies of models according to their sizes — and to show how one size can look very different on different bodies.

In pursuit of creating a fashion environment that’s kinder to all bodies, Dunn has dedicated herself to educating consumers about sizing.

First, she found 60 people of 12 different sizes and took their pictures.

Then, she put five women at a time in the same size of skirt and shirt to show how diversely beautiful human bodies are and to prove that everyone looks different in clothes no matter what size they have on.

She hoped to show people that 12 sizes don’t even come close to capturing the beauty of the human form.

All these models are wearing the same size … but do they look the same?

“No matter what size you are that’s not what dictates your worth or your beauty.”

“I had a convo with a friend of mine who was like ‘Yeah, if I went from a medium to a large, I’d be fine with it, but if I went from a large to an extra-large, that wouldn’t be OK’ and I was like, ‘Why???’ And she had no rational reason behind that,” Dunn said, describing a conversation we’ve all either had, started, or heard. We’ve been taught forever that the bigger something sounds, the worse that it is.”

Dunn’s project also shows just how arbitrary and narrow-minded clothing sizes are.

Sizes really are just numbers.

Unlike the images we are presented both in clothing ads and in entertainment and media, human beings aren’t, as Dunn remarked, “robots who come out on a conveyor belt … we’re all shaped differently.”

The pressure to look one way is obnoxious. And kinda dangerous.

“We’ve been taught forever that the bigger something sounds, the worse that it is.”

There’s so much weight — no pun intended — on being the “right” size.

“You put an ‘extra’ on top of a ‘large,’ and suddenly it’s the end of the world,” Dunn said of her experience in fashion sizing. “… And it really doesn’t mean anything, it really only means that there’s an extra inch of fabric.”

One extra inch of fabric.

3 in 4 girls report feeling depressed, guilty, or shameful after just three minutes of leafing through a fashion mag.

But I’d like to imagine a world where everyone can try on clothes and leave the emotional burden of worrying about fit to the clothes.

Instead, let’s focus on what looks good on our bodies. Let the clothes handle the emotional roller coaster of not fitting, and you just live your life in the body you’ve been given.

Dunn, who has worked for fashion houses for her whole career, puts it bluntly: “Clothes are not made for all bodies. … We shouldn’t then think when something doesn’t fit us that it’s somehow our fault.”

Dunn’s models also have a group on Facebook where they support each other, compliment each other, and generally lift each other up. Model Stephanie describes it this way: “We see the beauty in one another and help each other to recognize our own beauty at the same time.” Fashion leading to body optimism and confidence? Yes, please.

And Dunn herself drives a hard line when it comes to feeling good in the skin you’ve been given. Her philosophy is this: No matter what size you are, that’s not what dictates your worth or your beauty.

Self-worth not based on appearances. That’s a category we can all aspire to “fit” into!

The NBA Reinstated Draymond Green After A 12-Game Suspension

Draymond Green has not appeared in a basketball game for the Golden State Warriors since mid-December after an incident against the Phoenix Suns that led to an indefinite suspension. While it was not clear just how much time Green would end up missing, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the future Hall of Fame inductee’s time away from the team is coming to an end.

Charania reports that the NBA made the decision to reinstate green following a 12-game suspension, and while he will be back on the floor soon, the NBA, Warriors, and Green will continue to have “regular check-ins” in the future.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN brought word that Green will need a week or so to get ramped up ahead of his return to action.

And after these reports came out, the NBA confirmed that Green has been given the all clear to return to basketball.

Green has been suspended twice this season for on-court incidents. Back in November, Green received a 5-game suspension for putting Rudy Gobert in a chokehold during a scuffle between the Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves. He returned to the team and played in six games before his most recent incident, when he swung his arm around and his Jusuf Nurkic in the head. This incident earned him an indefinite suspension from the league.

Golden State went 7-5 during its most recent stretch without Green.
