French Montana continues to be one of the hardest-working names in hip-hop in 2024. Although his last full-length album, They Got Amnesia, was released in 2021, his stream of mixtape releases remained as steady as ever, producing Coke Boys 6 last January. He’s soon to follow up this week with his twenty-fifth mixtape, Mac & Cheese 5. Ostensibly his final Mac & Cheese mixtape, the project is due to feature a slew of guest stars. Christopher Nolan has opened up about receiving a scathing review during a Peloton workout class. While accepting the award for Best Director at the New York Film Critics Circle, the Oppenheimer filmmaker expressed his appreciation for film criticism even after having one of his films slammed directly in his face while sweating his butt off.

According to Nolan, the incident went down during a virtual workout class where the instructor had no idea the famous director was in attendance. Nolan doesn’t specify which film the instructor trashed, but let’s be real, it had to be Tenet. There’s no way it wasn’t Tenet. What was that movie even about?

“I was on my Peloton. I’m dying. And the instructor started talking about one of my films and said, ‘Did anyone see this? That’s a couple hours of my life I’ll never get back again!’” Nolan said. “When [film critic] Rex Reed takes a sh*t on your film he doesn’t ask you to work out!”

Nolan then used the hilarious anecdote to express why he’s so appreciative of professional film criticism. (Read: Not Peloton instructors.)

“In today’s world, where opinions are everywhere, there is a sort of idea that film criticism is being democratized,” Nolan said. “But I for one think the critical appreciation of films shouldn’t be an instinct but it should be a profession.”

“What we have here tonight is a group of professionals who attempt objectivity,” Nolan added. “Obviously writing about cinema objectively is a paradox, but the aspirations of objectivity is what makes criticism vital and timeless and useful to filmmakers and the filmmaking community.”

Green Day has already made some headlines this year, following their New Year’s Rockin’ Eve performance. The band is also just a few weeks from dropping their new album, Saviors.

Shannon Sharpe won three Super Bowls as a Hall Of Fame tight end, and his conversation with Katt Williams on the newest episode of Club Shay Shay required just as much — if not more — endurance. The episode, running for two hours and 46 minutes, is titled “Katt Williams Unleashed,” and that’s putting it mildly. Williams fired jokes and insults at the expense of the likes of Cedric The Entertainer, Kevin Hart, Steve Harvey, Jonathan Majors, and, yes, Diddy. The whole thing has gone viral: As of this post, Williams is the No. 1 trending topic on X (formerly Twitter).

Around the 1:43:00 mark, Sharpe asked Williams expound upon his knowledge of Dave Chappelle reportedly walking away from $50 million, which led to a very unexpected place.

“People say that: ‘He lost $50 million!’ No!” Williams said. “No, that’s not even close to what happened to this dude, and until you understand what happened to the dude, you don’t understand what happened. Like, no, not they offered him $50 million, and he turned it down. Who gonna turn down $50 million? Now, I’ve had to turn down $50 million four times. Four times. Just to protect my integrity and that virgin hole I was telling you about. ‘Cause P. Diddy be wanting to party, and you gotta tell ’em no! You’ve got to tell him no. I did.”

Williams assured he has “the receipts for everything” he told Sharpe. About nine minutes later, Williams looped back to Diddy, saying, “All I gotta do is want it, and it belongs to me, so because of that, because I’m favored by God — like, when I see people’s wives and stuff, I don’t even look at them. I don’t want to look at nothing I don’t wanna have because I know blessed I am. If I look at it, I got it. That’s how Diddy be feeling.”

In early October, 50 Cent similarly bashed Diddy from the stage during his The Final Lap Tour. “That’s why I don’t be going to them Puffy parties. “Uh-uh. N**** hug you from the front and the back at the same time? F*ck you talkin’ about? Look, if you into that, you into that. I’m fine with it. To each his own. I’m just sayin’ this ain’t my motherf*cking kind of party. It’s uncomfortable. I think I belong in the girls bathroom when sh*t like that is going on.”

50 Cent’s insult took on a more serious tone the following month, when Cassie filed an extremely detailed and lengthy lawsuit against Diddy alleging rape, sex trafficking, and various forms of abuse. Diddy settled with Cassie within 24 hours but maintained his innocence. Since then, three other women filed troubling lawsuits against Diddy, who stepped down from his role at Revolt and reportedly lost a reality television deal with Hulu.

Marvel’s newest series, Echo, is less than a week away, and we’ve got all the details on the street-level series that brings Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin even deeper into the MCU fold.

Starring Alaqua Cox, the series will focus on the fierce Marvel Comics character who was first introduced back in 1999. Just like Daredevil is blind, Echo is deaf, yet that doesn’t stop her from being a brutal adversary. Unfortunately, her skills have been exploited by the Kingpin, but all of that’s about to change when Echo starts streaming in January

Plot

Kicking off after the events of Hawkeye, where the character was first introduced to the MCU, Echo follows Maya Lopez as she reconnects with her Native American family after learning that her father was murdered by her longtime mentor and benefactor Wilson Fisk a.k.a. the Kingpin. For years, Fisk allowed Maya to believe that Clint Barton was the real killer while acting as the Ronin between Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, but now that she knows the truth, she’s on a mission to get out from under the crime lord’s thumb.

In a new interview with Screen Rant, Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onoforio revealed that Echo will reintroduce viewers to Fisk and all the complexity of his terrifying power.

“I think that he goes through a lot trying to get her back no matter what she’s done to get away from him,” D’Onofrio said. “And I think that it ends up to be a kind of very father-daughter trepidatious period for them, to say the least. And it gets very intense. It gets emotionally violent and physically violent.”

“I wanted there to be an emotional life first. His connection to Maya,” the actor added. “I wanted to remind people, if they had seen the original Daredevil, that he can care for people in a real way. And if they didn’t see Daredevil before, that this character can care for people in a certain way. And so that was one important aspect because without that, I don’t think he’s as scary or as interesting.”

Streaming exclusively on Disney, the origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. Dave Chappelle released a new stand-up comedy special, The Dreamer, on Netflix a few days ago. In it, he devotes some time to poking fun at Lil Nas X, but what did he say?

During the special, Chappelle recounted his first time meeting Lil Nas X, saying:

“I know a dreamer when I see one, and I’ve met many powerful dreamers in my life, none more powerful than the man who calls himself Lil Nas X.

I met this n**** at a party, I had no idea who he was. But the minute he walked in that party, I knew I was in his dream. Everybody in the party was another dreamer. Everyone was famous, but when that n**** walked in, he was dressed like C-3PO. He was shining! And everyone was like, ‘Oh my God, there he is! That’s Lil Nas X!’

I didn’t know who he was. For some reason, out of all them dreamers, he walked right up to me. And he said, ‘I tried to get you in my video.’ I didn’t know what the f*ck he was talking about. I said, ‘What? What video?’ And he was just looking at me like, ‘You know what video,’ and walked away. And I watched him walk away. I said, ‘Man, this n****’s having a very powerful dream.’”

Elsewhere, he went through a fictional scenario of a teacher asking young Lil Nas X what he wants to be when he grows up, saying:

“What do you want to be when you grow up, Lil Nas X?’ That n**** stood up in front of the whole class: ‘I want to be the gayest n**** that ever lived. I want to do a music video, slide down a stripper pole, all the way to the depths of Hell, and suck the devil’s dick at ten o’clock on BET while all the kids are awake and can see me.’ Shockingly, that was the only dream that worked out.”

Although Selena Gomez originally started in the acting world, she has worn a lot of hats throughout her career, including being a pop star and owning a beauty line. However, in the past few years, she’s focused more on her role in Only Murders In The Building and running Rare Beauty, making it four years since she last dropped an album.

Is Selena Gomez retiring from music?

During a recent interview with the Smartless podcast, Gomez answered whether or not she would be retiring from music for good.

“I started having a lot of fun with music and then touring was really fun,” Gomez shared. “But I was doing my TV show at the same time [2007’s Wizards Of Waverly Place] and I just found it really fun, so I just kept going, but the older I get, the more I’m kind of like, I would like to find something to just settle on.”

“I do feel like I have one more album in me but I would probably choose acting,” she added.

It does seem like Gomez may have a final record on the way, given she recently dropped her “Single Soon” song. Yet, right now, not much else has been revealed about what she has planned on the music front.

If you still haven’t seen Killers of the Flower Moon, one of the best movies of 2023, you’re out of excuses. The Martin Scorsese film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, and Robert De Niro, will make its streaming debut on Apple TV+ on January 12th.

Killers of the Flower Moon has already won dozens of awards, and it’s up for even more this weekend at the Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama for DiCaprio, and Best Actress – Motion Picture Drama for Gladstone.

In a roundtable interview with the Hollywood Reporter, the actress talked about her family’s reaction to being cast in a Scorsese film. “My dad’s favorite movie is Kundun. That was my introduction to Marty. I had no idea about Goodfellas. My grandma was born and raised in a little log cabin during the Depression, on the Nez Perce reservation in Lapwai. But she loved movies. Her hobby was going and buying VHSes. She had about 4,000 titles of films that she was recording constantly,” she said. The collection included Titanic:

“She’s passed away, but she was around when we told her that I’d gotten cast in this. We told her, ‘Yeah, I’m going to be in a Martin Scorsese film.’ (Imitating her grandmother) ‘Ooh, Martin Scorsese!’ ‘And Robert De Niro.’ ‘Ooh, Robert De Niro!’ ‘And Leonardo DiCaprio.’ ‘… Who?’ Then I pulled Titanic out of her collection. ‘Ooh!’ And it was sweet because, one of the gifts of dementia was getting to surprise her with that information several times a day, and it was always fresh and exciting. Always the same reaction.”

Gladstone needs to win an Oscar, if only for her grandmother (and because it’s a remarkable performance).

In December, Madonna commenced the US dates of her Celebration Tour. A video from one of the shows has been making the rounds online, and some have used it to mock Madonna over her age.

As NME points out, the video shows Madonna dancing on stage while holding onto a horizontal bar behind her. Comments included, ““I’m glad to see that Madonna has a grab bar so she doesn’t fall,” and, “65-year-old Madonna has to use a bar to dance on stage to prop herself up as she performs a dance routine.”

Others, though, noted that the video doesn’t tell the whole story of what was going on. One commenter chimed in, “Dumb asses got jokes, but failed to mention the fact that she’s dancing on a MOVING PLATFORM.” Somebody else wrote, “She is on a thin platform that is moving across the top of the audience! Of course there’s a bar! She’s also clipped onto it!”

At one of her recent shows, Madonna addressed her 2023 health scare, saying, “It’s been a crazy year for me. I didn’t think I was going to make it, neither did my doctors. That’s why I woke up with all of my children sitting around me.”

Around this time last year, Iggy Azalea teased that she was up to some “scandalous sh*t.” That was soon revealed to be an aesthetic project called “Hotter Than Hell” as well as a very profitable OnlyFans page. Her “scandalous sh*t” announcement also promised new music by the summer, and sure enough “Money Come” arrived in August. However, there have been no signs of an album, which shouldn’t be too much of a surprise considering her 2021 effort was titled The End Of An Era. She also told Billboard it was “probably the last project I’m going to put out musically.” Still, the door has remained slightly ajar — until now.

Is Iggy Azalea Retired From Music?

It sure sounds like it. On Tuesday, January 2, Azalea wrote an extremely long post on X (formerly Twitter) that confirms she is “not going to finish my album” and likely not going to write music anymore at all. Read the full post below.

In truth what I’ve known for a long time is that I feel more passionately about design and creative direction than I do about song writing.
To many of you that’s no shock to read.
It shows in my work. Haha!
Jokes aside, i do spend a lot more time on that part of things… because Im most confident at that.

That’s why I want to let you know that I’m not going to finish my album.
It’s been paused for a few months while I was giving direction for a different project & in truth I just haven’t felt the urge to go back to it.
I feel really happy & passionate in my day to day life when my minds focused on that and so I want to stick to what’s undeniably best for me. [flower emoji]
