JID Kicks Off His 2024 Campaign With The Slick-Talking ’30 Freestyle’ Video

In 2022, Atlanta-bred Dreamville rapper JID dropped his third album The Forever Story, peaking at No. 12 on the Billboard 200. Since then, he’s seemingly laid low, taking some well-deserved time off after completing the Luv Is 4ever tour with Smino. In May, he announced a joint project with Metro Boomin, then in August, he teased a follow-up to The Forever Story, Forever & A Day.

It looks like he’s ready to kick off his 2024 campaign, as he opened the year with a new freestyle, “30,” dropping a visualizer in which he raps while sitting in a window. The beat is produced by his long-time beatmaking partner Christo, Conductor, and Tane Runo. On New Year’s Day, JID expressed his intent for the year on Twitter, writing, “ima just drop music all year and see what happens.”

It seems mostly like that what will happen is that JID will drop 4ever & A Day sometime this year, finishing up his Metro Booming project sometime after Metro drops his own joint album with Future. Metro said that this project will be his top focus until its release. In the meantime, it seems as though JID will continue dropping these freestyles — and the rap world will be all the better for it.

Playboi Carti Name-Drops Ice Spice (Much To Her Approval) In His Surprise Travis Scott Collab ‘Backr00ms’

To kick off the new year, Playboi Carti and Travis Scott dropped a new collaboration titled “Backr00ms.” Scott helped announce the song yesterday, with a video shared on his Instagram. In it, an artist named Blackhaine (according to Rolling Stone) shared, “New music. Carti. Travis Scott. Dropping [bleep] today,” as a giant Parental Advisory sticker covered his face.

The song’s relatively surprise drop also came with a music video, where Carti is spending his money on a dancer, and the two rappers are seen performing throughout.

“In the middle of the field, throw me a bomb, I’m throwin’ that bih like a quarterback,” the chorus goes, via Genius. “Standin’ in the field, holdin’ a bomb, throwin’ that ho like a quarterback / Stood in the field, hold me a bomb, throwin’ that ho like a quarterback.”

However, there’s also another eye-catching aspect. During the track, Carti name-drops Ice Spice at the end of his first verse. “B*tch tryna sneak pictures, I don’t give a f*ck ’bout much / I think I need me a Ice Spice, yeah, I want me a munch,” he raps.

She later took to X (formerly Twitter) to indicate her approval of the reference:

This marks Carti’s follow-up to a recent “2024” song, as fans suspect he is gearing up to drop a new album.

Quentin Tarantino’s ‘The Movie Critic’: Everything To Know Including The Release Date, Cast, Trailer, & More Info

tarantino
Getty Image

Quentin Tarantino has been thinking about his final movie for over a decade.

“I want to stop at a certain point,” the two-time Oscar winner told Playboy in 2012. “Directors don’t get better as they get older. Usually the worst films in their filmography are those last four at the end. I am all about my filmography, and one bad film f*cks up three good ones.” In another interview from 2019, Tarantino compared his filmography to a train. “If you think about the idea of all the movies telling one story, and each film is like a train boxcar connected to each other, this one would sort of be the big show-stopping climax of it all. And I could imagine that the 10th one would be a little more epilogue-y,” he said.

After a brief infatuation with Star Trek, Tarantino has settled on his “big show-stopping climax”: The Movie Critic. Let’s hope it’s more Eyes Wide Shut than Buddy Buddy (minus the whole, um, dying thing).

Here’s everything we know about The Movie Critic.

Plot

The Movie Critic is based on, as Tarantino put it, “a guy who really lived, but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.” The film will be set in California in 1977, the year of Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Saturday Night Fever. It was inspired by the director’s teenage job of loading pornography magazines into a vending machine. “All the other stuff was too skanky to read but then there was this porno rag that had a really interesting movie page,” he explained to Deadline. Tarantino refused to name the magazine, but the critic “wrote about mainstream movies and he was the second-string critic. I think he was a very good critic. He was as cynical as hell. His reviews were a cross between early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle might be if he were a film critic.”

Tarantino praised the anonymous critic for being “very, very funny. He was very rude, you know. He cursed. He used racial slurs. But his shit was really funny. He was as rude as hell.” Somewhere in there, he’ll find the plot (but it won’t be about renowned New Yorker critic Pauline Kael).

Cast

No cast has been announced yet, but Tarantino has said his leading man will be “somebody in the 35 year-old ball park. It’ll definitely be a new leading man for me.” That rules out Django and Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio (maybe Cobra Kai favorite Paul Walter Hauser?), but there’s rumors that John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson might make a Pulp Fiction reunion.

Release Date

Tarantino hoped to start filming in fall 2023, but that was before the SAG-AFTRA strike. It’s unclear when production will begin, so don’t expect The Movie Critic to come out before 2025 (a premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where Pulp Fiction won the prestigious Palme d’Or, is likely), at the earliest.

Trailer

There’s no trailer. Instead, please enjoy Tarantino on The Golden Girls.

‘Sharknado’ And ‘90210’ Star Ian Ziering Somehow Ended Up, By No Fault Of His Own, In An All-Out Biker Brawl On NYE

Ian Ziering

Beverly Hills 90210 and Sharknado star Ian Ziering was reportedly jumped by a pack of a bikers during an all-out street brawl in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. According to police, Ziering has been listed as the victim and the incident is under investigation.

In footage obtained by TMZ, Ziering’s vehicle was reportedly hit by the group of bikers, which led to the actor getting out of his car. That’s when things went south:

You can see Ian hop out of his car after one of the bikers seemingly catches his attention, possibly from a collision … and the altercation erupts in a violent brawl, all seen on video obtained by TMZ.

Check it out … Ian starts wailing on the guy in question, but soon — he gets ganged up on by the others … who begin to whoop on him mercilessly as he tries to make a run for it. Like we said, the [clip] is absolutely bananas … especially considering this a well-known actor.

Eventually, the fight ended with Ziering getting back into his car as both he and the bikers scattered from the scene. The actor did not comment on the incident until he released an Instagram video on Monday night addressing the fight and blasting the police for a lackluster response:

“I am relieved to report that my daughter and I are both completely unscathed, but the incident has left me deeply concerned about the growing boldness of such groups who disrupt public safety and peace,” Ziering said. “This situation highlights a larger issue of hooliganism on our streets and the need for effective law enforcement responses to such behavior. As a citizen and a parent, I find it unacceptable that groups can freely engage in this kind of behavior, causing fear and chaos, while the response from authorities seems insufficient.”

“We must address the underlying issues that lead to such disruptive behavior and ensure that our streets are safe for everyone,” Ziering continued. “I urge city officials and law enforcement to take decisive action against such lawlessness and provide the necessary resources to prevent future occurrences.”

Snoop Dogg Will Be Bringing His Distinct ‘Snoop Style’ To Join NBC’s 2024 Paris Olympics Coverage

Snoop Dogg will be helping out with some coverage of the Olympics this summer, as he will team up with NBCUniversal in Paris. The news came during the Sunday Night Football halftime on New Year’s Eve.

As for what to expect when Snoop starts helping out on July 26, he’ll be chatting with NBC’s Olympics host, Mike Tirico, and will “explore the city’s iconic landmarks, attend Olympic competitions and events and make visits to the athletes, their friends and families,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. And it will probably be very entertaining, even if you’re not super into sports.

“I grew up watching the Olympics and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris,” he shared. “It’s a celebration of skill, dedication and the pursuit of greatness. We’re going to have some amazing competitions and, of course, I will be bringing that Snoop style to the mix. It’s going to be the most epic Olympics ever, so stay tuned, and keep it locked. Let’s elevate, celebrate and make these games unforgettable, smoke the competition, and may the best shine like gold. Peace and Olympic LOVE, ya dig?”

As an early teaser, Snoop appeared in a video with Olympic stars from different sports, including “Suni Lee (gymnastics), A’ja Wilson (basketball), Jagger Eaton (skateboarder), and Kelly Cheng and Sara Hughes (beach volleyball),” per the publication.

Back in 2021, Snoop Dogg had also provided some hilarious highlights commentary of the Tokyo Olympics on Peacock — which led to him being picked for primetime.

Drake Ended His 2023 By Showing Off An Enviable And On-Brand Gift Snoop Dogg Gave Him

drake

Like many other social media users, Drake wrapped up 2023 with a post sharing some highlights from his year. Unlike many other social media users, Drake is Drake, so the things he saw and did were largely on a different level than most other people. Example: One of his year-end photos showed off a pretty neat gift from Snoop Dogg.

The post is captioned, “First thought for 2024: I’m not your emotional support dog.” (The first photo is of Drake wearing a dog mask.) A few photos in is a photo of a blunt on a piece of paper that reads, “July 27, 2023, Blunt rolled by Snoop Dogg, Death Row Records,” alongside a blue bandana.

Drake certainly had a lot to look back on for 2023. He released his latest No. 1 album, For All The Dogs, in October. The project yielded two No. 1 singles: “Slime You Out” with SZA and “First Person Shooter” with J. Cole. He and 21 Savage also kicked off their It’s All A Blur Tour, in support of their joint 2022 album Her Loss. Drake was one of YouTube’s most-viewed artists of the year, one of Spotify’s most-streamed, and in case his bank account was feeling a little light, somebody tipped him 20 cents.

‘Invincible’ Season 2 Part 2: Everything To Know Including The Release Date, Cast, Trailer, & More Info

Invincible Season 2

Invincible viewers were surely disappointed when the Amazon series took a hiatus after the second season only aired four episodes. never fear, however. The show is destined to return soon for the back half of the season, so that fans of Robert Kirkman’s other most-beloved comic book series (beyond The Walking Dead) can receive their next fix.

Additionally, superhero movies cannot seem to compel audiences these days, and that makes viewers even more ready for the remaining successful superhero/villain titles in rotation. The other one happens to be The Boys, and man, who would have imagined that Amazon would be in such an advantageous position in 2024? It’s not worth questioning how this happened, but let’s discuss what Invincible left dangling for the rest of Season 2. Additionally, compelling speculation has surfaced regarding a return date:

Plot

As viewers will recall, this series took a bizarre turn to show evil versions of Invincible/Mark apparently teaming up with his father, Omni-Man/Nolan Grayson, following their climactic battle in the sky. That finale had ended with Mark seemingly resisting going to the dark side, but the show threw some viewers into a tailspin while suggesting that Mark would rule Earth alongside his dad while the pair served the Viltrum Empire. Not great! Again, however, this was not the show’s main reality, where Debbie was only beginning to come to grips with realizing that her husband had only considered her a pet and a means to fulfilling Viltrumite goals.

Unfortunately as well, the Viltrumites aren’t the only threat on the horizon. The Mauler Twins and more are still in the mix with their own goals, some more damaging than the rest. Mark’s educational plans fell by the wayside, too, and he ended Episode 4 severely injured with Nolan being carted off by the Viltrumites. Did Dad leave any wisdom behind? He dropped a hint on the way out, and boy, this show knows how a cliffhanger works.

One thing is certain: Mark (whose identity is no longer secret to his intergalactic enemies) will need all the help he can get to overcome his father’s ways and also the imperialistic Viltrumite empire at large. Good luck.

Release Date

No official word on Episode 5’s release exists, but it’s almost certain that this show will be part of Amazon’s plan to push their ad-free plan (for $2.99 per month) when Prime Video ads begin on January 29. Does this mean that the four remaining Season 2 episodes will begin shortly there after? That’s the joke going around, so stay tuned to find out if that ends up being true.

Cast

Don’t expect this show to mess around with a successful formula. As part of the ensemble cast, Steven Yeun will continue to voice Mark Grayson/Invincible with J.K. Simmons as Omni Man, Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson, Seth Rogen as the one-eyed Allen the Alien, Walton Goggins as Cecil Stedman.

Trailer

Amazon hasn’t released a full trailer yet. However, a few potential Invincible hints surfaced in this 2024 sizzle reel.

Invincible Season 2 Part 1 is available to stream on Amazon Prime.

The Rock Made Fun Of One Of His Worst Movies In His Return To WWE

the rock
wwe

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was everywhere this long weekend. He appeared on Fox NFL Sunday (and made Hall of Fame coach Jimmy Johnson cry), ESPN College Gameday, and probably an In-N-Out for “the first time.” He also made his return to wrestling during WWE Raw on Monday.

“You can’t ever come out here in the people’s ring, in front of the people, with the people’s champ in the building [and] run our country down free of consequence from The Rock,” Johnson said after interrupting Jinder Mahal to make his grand entrance. He called Mahal a “Day 1 Douchebag” and later compared him to one of the worst movies in the actor’s filmography.

“If The Rock had to guess why you’re so angry, it’s probably because nobody likes you and you’re not funny,” Johnson said on the mic. “As matter of fact, if you were one of The Rock’s movies, you’d probably be Baywatch.” When Mahal replied, “Thankfully I’ve never seen Baywatch,” The Rock quickly fired back, “Well, nobody else did either. Shut your mouth when The Rock is talking to you.” The Rock then set him up for a “it doesn’t matter.”

You can watch the clip below — but don’t watch Baywatch (17 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, tied with Tooth Fairy at the bottom). There are other, better Zac Efron movies.

Nicki Minaj Refused To Perform One Of Her Biggest Hits At An NYE Concert And May Never Play It Again: ‘Stupid Song’

nicki minaj performance
Getty Image

Looking at Nicki Minaj’s early career, a couple songs stand out as being most important or noteworthy: In 2011, “Super Bass” was her first top-5 single, and the next year, “Starships” was her second. “Starships” is also one of Minaj’s most-streamed songs with over a billion plays on Spotify. Minaj, though, doesn’t seem to be the single’s biggest fan these days.

During a New Year’s Eve concert at E11EVEN in Miami, she got a few lines into “Starships” before stopping, saying, “Hold on. Psych, psych, psych, psych. I don’t perform that song no more, y’all.” After some audible discontent from the audience, she continued, “I don’t like it, what y’all want me to do? Stupid song.”

According to setlist.fm, Minaj hasn’t performed the song live since 2019. Of course, that was the last time she went on tour (for the The Nicki Wrld Tour with Juice WRLD), but she has played some festivals since then and the song didn’t make any of those setlists.

This isn’t Minaj’s first time distancing herself from “Starships.” In a 2020 interview, she said, “I wish I had never recorded ‘Anaconda.’ I like the video, but ick. My first-ever solo song on Billboard was ‘Your Love.’ To this day, I like the video but I hate the song. I could go on and on. I hate ‘Starships.’ I mean, ew… ‘Starships are meant to fly?’ Why did I do that?”
