When Does ‘Griselda’ Come Out On Netflix?

Good news Narcos fans, the based-on-a-true-story crime drama that taught Sofia Vergara how to snort cocaine is about to land on Netflix.

Griselda follows the drug-dealing exploits of Griselda Blanco, a Columbian kingpin who earned the nickname the “Cocaine Godmother” after she built an $80 million a month criminal empire in the 70s and 80s. The show is produced by the minds behind Narcos and Narco: Mexico, and while it’s not a direct crossover, it has been described as a “cousin” to both series. Vergara spent years trying to get Blanco’s story made and she looks to have transformed herself to play the murderous drug queen in what will be her first major dramatic role. But when exactly can fans expect to see it in their Netflix queues? Pretty soon.

Griselda is set to stream on the platform on Jan. 25th. All of the show’s six, hour-long episodes will drop on Netflix that day, likely around 11 a.m. ET. The series shows Blanco’s rise to power in Miami’s criminal underworld, her struggle to keep her family safe, and her violent methods of keeping control over her billion-dollar smuggling operation. Vergara, who is known for her more comedic roles, appeared unrecognizable in the show’s trailer, sporting major prosthetics to morph into the callous, calculating tyrant, shocking fans with her new look and effectively setting the tone for what this series will be.

Griselda Blanco is no Gloria Pritchett, people. You’ve been warned.

Every Episode Of ‘Reacher,’ Basically

REACHER
AMAZON

Reacher and his team are at a crime scene. It is very mysterious. The bad guys have kidnapped someone important and left no clues behind. Or so it seems…

GUY WITH COOL HAIR: I dunno, Reacher.

ATTRACTIVE LADY COP: They cleaned up the scene pretty well. Almost… too well.

REACHER: Look closely.

GUY WITH COOL HAIR: At what?

NEAGLEY: [holding a rocket launcher for some reason] I’ve got the perimeter covered.

REACHER: [crouches, the fabric of his jeans screaming for its life as his massive thighs stretch it beyond what any manufacturer could have anticipated] Look at this french fry.

ATTRACTIVE LADY COP: What about it?

REACHER: [holding up single french fry] The crinkle cut… the heavy dusting of Old Bay seasoning… this is a crab fry from Chickie’s and Pete’s restaurant. By the looks of it I’d say it was fried about 36 hours ago.

GUY WITH COOL HAIR: What does that mean?

REACHER: We’re going to Philadelphia.

REACHER
AMAZON

The Big Bad Guy is in his headquarters. He is very mad. He is holding a glass of dark liquor at 11am. Twenty men with machine guns are standing around him.

BAD GUY: He’s one man.

GOON: He’s big.

BAD GUY: I don’t care how big he is. We need to do crimes. We need to do this deal.

OTHER GOON: I will murder him.

BAD GUY: Good.

THIRD GOON: I will murder him, too.

BAD GUY: I need this deal to go through.

GOON WITH A NECK TATTOO: I will also murder him.

BAD GUY: Millions of dollars are at stake here. I need to do crimes. Go get him.

Reacher

Reacher and his team are in Philadelphia for their investigation. They are at the Liberty Bell in broad daylight but somehow no civilians are around. The goons roll up to them ready for a fight.

LEAD GOON: [is 5’8] You’re in big trouble now, chump.

SECONDARY GOON: [is 5’6, has a chain] I am going to murder you.

GOON WITH A NECK TATTOO: [has a machine gun he doesn’t fire when Reacher is vulnerable] It’s the end of the line, pal.

REACHER: Okay.

[Reacher murders all of them through a series of elbow strikes and headbutts that make cracking and squishing sounds in a way that implies their insides have liquified. The Goon With A Neck Tattoo waits until Reacher is safely positioned behind the Liberty Bell before firing 150 bullets that strike nothing. Reacher then picks up the Liberty Bell and throws it over the goon’s head and kabongs it with the other goon’s chain so hard the goon just dies]

GUY WITH COOL HAIR: Nice work, boss.

ATTRACTIVE LADY COP: [makes sex eyes at Reacher]

NEAGLEY: [still holding rocket launcher]

[head goon’s phone rings, Reacher pulls it off his lifeless corpse and answers it]

BAD GUY: Is it done?

REACHER: No. But you’re about to be.

BAD GUY: Who is this? Where are my guys?

REACHER: Let’s just say they got their… bells rung.

REACHER
AMAZON

A local cop who plays by the rules is mad at Reacher for his loose cannon shenanigans.

COP: Dammit Reacher, you murdered five goons at the Liberty Bell in broad daylight.

REACHER: Yes.

COP: We have laws! You can just kill everyone, dammit!

REACHER: I’m Reacher.

COP: [begrudgingly] Dammit, I don’t approve of your methods but… goddammit… I respect you. Just promise me you won’t murder anyone else, okay?

REACHER: No.

COP: Dammit.

REACHER
AMAZON

Reacher and his team storm a facility where the Bad Guy is hiding weapons and/or counterfeit money and/or evidence that will reveal a much larger conspiracy. Reacher is wearing a mask even though he is the largest human being alive and can be recognized from space.

ATTRACTIVE LADY COP: [in ball gown for some reason] We need a warrant to get in there.

NEAGLEY: [on walkie-talkie from bushes] I think we can figure out a way.

REACHER: I’m Reacher.

[Reacher headbutts three security guards — heights ranging from 5’4-5’7 — and then picks up their golf cart and heaves it through the front entrance]

GUY WITH COOL HAIR: Classic Reacher.

[five black SUVs filled with goons show up, one has an actual pirate cannon mounted to the roof]

REACHER: You go in and get the evidence. I’ll hold them off.

ATTRACTIVE LADY COP: Are you sure?

GUY WITH COOL HAIR: There’s like 40 of them.

NEAGLEY: [in bushes with sniper rifle] I’ll cover you.

REACHER: I’m Reacher.

Quick flashback scene. Reacher is a teenager. His mom is in the hospital.

MOM: You’re a good boy, Reacher.

REACHER: [says nothing]

MOM: You know right from wrong.

REACHER: [continues saying nothing]

MOM: Just make me one promise before I die at an undetermined age after this brief hospital stay…

REACHER: What’s that?

MOM: Please don’t spend your whole life murdering goons.

REACHER: [eyes narrow]

REAXCHER
AMAZON

Back to present day. Reacher has murdered all the goons at the facility. One of them is hanging from the flagpole by his neck. The team comes out and sees the carnage.

GUY WITH COOL HAIR: Wow. Someone was busy.

ATTRACTIVE LADY COP: [ball gown torn to mid-thigh] We got the evidence. They’ve been doing crimes.

NEAGLEY: We better get outta here.

[cell phone rings from a goon’s mangled vest, Reacher pulls it out along with a candy bar that was apparently in there too]

BAD GUY: Is it done?

REACHER: [bites into candy bar] I am going to murder you.

BAD GUY: I don’t think you know who you’re messing with, son.

REACHER: A dead man.

BAD GUY: We’ll see about that.

COP: [screeches up to the facility in like a 1997 Ford Taurus and sees $25 million in property damage and dozens of dead goons] Dammit!

REACHER
AMAZON

Reacher is in his crappy motel room. The Attractive Lady Cop knocks on his door and comes in. She is holding two bottles of beer. Reacher has his shirt off. His shoulders look like if a regular-sized person was smuggling bowling balls.

ATTRACTIVE LADY COP: How are you doing, Reacher?

REACHER: I’m fine.

ATTRACTIVE LADY COP: You just don’t let anyone in, do you?

REACHER: I’m Reacher.

ATTRACTIVE LADY COP: [takes back the beer she just gave him, removes shirt]

REACHER: I’m your boss.

ATTRACTIVE LADY COP: Well, I think… just for tonight… you let someone else be in charge…

REACHER: [veins in neck raised like a mountain range on a topographical map]

[phone rings]

ATTRACTIVE LADY COP: Ignore that.

REACHER: [answers phone]

BAD GUY: Well well well, Mr. Reacher…

REACHER: I am going to murder you.

Fancy Little Meatball Ron DeSantis Reportedly Spent More Money On Private Jets Than TV Advertising Because ‘Casey Won’t Fly Commercial’

Ron DeSantis Casey DeSantis
Getty Image

With Ron DeSantis‘ presidential campaign now dead in the ground, political analysts have been poring over what went wrong with the Republican candidate who was once viewed as the biggest threat to Donald Trump. Unsurprisingly, those analysts have a lot to choose from.

While the biggest and most insurmountable issue with Meatball Ron’s presidential run was the candidate’s inability to engage in retail politics or simple small talk without coming off as a weird robot, his campaign was a similar disaster. In addition to inexperienced staffers, DeSantis’ campaign blew through a staggering amount of money, and one particular expenditure has been haunting him since October: private jets.

In a post-mortem on DeSantis exiting the Republican primary, FloridaPolitics publisher Peter Schorsch highlighted the DeSantises taste for fancy flying that reportedly cost the campaign millions:

What can I say? The DeSantises developed a taste for the imperial trappings of office, and even as the campaign peasants were scrounging for kernels of grain they continued to insist on private jets and white glove treatment. Perhaps the single most shocking statistic of the campaign was that it spent more on private jets than TV advertising. This speaks to an enormous sense of entitlement and an almost pathological detachment from reality.

Political analyst Rick Wilson also noted the well-documented reports of DeSantis dropping large chunks of change on private jets. However, Wilson took things further by laying the blame on the Florida governor’s wife Casey DeSantis:

“DeSantis’ campaign was out of money, time, and resources,” Wilson told MSNBC. “They wasted tens of millions of dollars on private jet travel because Casey DeSantis won’t fly commercial. It was a campaign way in over its head from the start, and they never had a chance.”

Bayley Is Ready To Cement Her Legacy At The Royal Rumble

bayley
WWE/Merle Cooper

As fans packed into Raymond James Stadium for WrestleMania 37, WWE’s annual premier show had a different buzz for a face of its women’s division. After performing for more than a year without fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bayley, one of the promotion’s brightest spots week-in and week-out, did not compete at the show.

“That Mania stung,” Bayley tells Uproxx Sports. “I was so heartbroken that I didn’t even want to go ask what was happening. I felt like I had the best year of my career. Then I hosted WrestleMania, which was an honor. Got to be alongside some legends, have some cool moments, a lot of spotlight on me both nights. Now I can say I’ve done it. But that’s not where I thought I should have been.”

Fast forward almost three years later and she has a chance at redemption. A 30-minute drive down 275 to Tropicana Field in Saint Petersburg, Bayley will be one of 30 women vying for a chance to main event WrestleMania 40 when she hits the ring at this year’s Royal Rumble on Saturday, Jan. 27.

“I think that it will be a good little bird in the face to whoever didn’t want to put me on, right in the backyard of (WrestleMania 37),” Bayley says. “I’m gonna use that as fuel.”

One of the traditional big four Premier Live Events, Bayley understands the significance of what it would mean to win a Royal Rumble. It would give her the chance to do something that’s alluded her during her 10-year WWE career. She’s defended the title, the tag titles, and wrestled in dream matches, but she’s never competed in a singles title match at WrestleMania.

“To me, this year in particular is about cementing my legacy and my career,” Bayley says. “I’ve done a lot up until this point. With Damage CTRL, I feel like I’m on a different level than everybody else, even the women that I came up with, because it comes with a different responsibility.

“Bringing up Dakota, bringing up girls and vouching for them, it’s a different type of responsibility than just having to worry about yourself,” she continues. “The fact that I’ve been able to do that successfully and add to it that IYO is the champion right now just puts me on a different level. I think this year is going to solidify who I am and what I’ve brought to the industry and to the company.”

Becoming the leader of Damage CTRL is something Bayley says happened quickly. The trio debuted at SummerSlam 2022 after Bianca Belair defeated Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship, a moment she says made the group feel instantly important. “It feels very special,” she remarks, “to have been able to do that on a big show.”

While the ultimate dream for Bayley is having that WrestleMania main event, she says much of what she wants to accomplish is her current onscreen role with Damage CTRL, and helping usher in the next generation of stars.

“Whether it’s women in NXT right now or whether it’s someone backstage like an Indi Hartwell or Candice LeRae that isn’t getting that TV time, that can be main event superstars, I think that is one of my main purposes here,” Bayley notes. “I’ve been a champion and as much as I want to main event WrestleMania and get that singles match, as much as I want to win the Rumble, if it’s not in the cards for me, it’s okay because I understand what my purpose is. That’s to make the division bigger than it is and just give back and share my equity.”

If she does go on to win the Rumble, Bayley is crystal clear on plans for who she’ll challenge.

“Let me just say it, this is the last time I’m gonna say it. IYO is champion, right? And in Damage CTRL that means we’re all kind of a champion. She deserves to have that all to her own. Kabuki Warriors, we’re gonna get them those tag titles because it’s what they deserve. If I get a title from Rhea Ripley, how cool would that look? Now all we gotta do is get Dakota to win the NXT Women’s title,” Bayley says.

“And you’ve never seen that before, and that’s what we’re about this year. We’re about making history. We’re about never before seen, and we’re about taking over the world. So, the only way we could do that is by knocking Mami off her little high horse. She thinks she’s the stuff right now. Wait til I get my hands on her.”

Is The 21 Savage ‘American Dream’ Movie Real?

Earlier this month, before 21 Savage released his new album American Dream, he hyped up the project with a trailer for a movie. It was called American Dream: The 21 Savage Story, starring Donald Glover and Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin portraying the rapper at different points in his life.

However, 21 has a bit of a history with trickery, like when he and Drake did a mock Vogue cover to promote their album Her Loss. So, what’s the deal with the American Dream movie?

Is The 21 Savage ‘American Dream’ Movie Real?

It’s not, no.

Savage made the reveal in an interview with Shannon Sharpe on a new episode of Club Shay Shay (as Complex notes). Sharpe asked if the movie was coming out soon, and Savage let the cat out of the bag, answering, “Nah, that was a parody.”

Sharpe was insistent that Savage’s life story actually could make for an interesting movie, though, to which the rapper replied, “I feel like it could be one day. They would hate on it now, though. Because they gon’ be like, ‘What the f*ck 21 Savage deserve a story for, a movie about him for? What he did?’ You know how they do.”

So, American Dream: The 21 Savage Story isn’t real, but we’ll always have the trailer, which you can revisit above. Also check out the full interview with Sharpe below.

Will Taylor Swift Go To The Chiefs Vs. Ravens Playoff Game In Baltimore?

taylor chiefs

The cheapest ticket on StubHub for the AFC championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens on Sunday is $539. For the NFC Championship, where the Detroit Lions will travel to California to play the San Francisco 49ers, it’s $433. Why the $100 difference? Call it the Taylor Swift effect.

Will Taylor Swift Go To The Chiefs Vs. Ravens Playoff Game In Baltimore?

Swift is expected to attend the Chiefs vs. Ravens game at M&T Bank Stadium to cheer on her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. If the Chiefs win, they will be in the Super Bowl for the fourth time in five seasons. If the Ravens triumph, there will be a lot of conflicted Swifties in the Baltimore area.

Swift was good luck for the Chiefs last weekend when they beat the Buffalo Bills, and for Kelce, in particular, who scored two touchdowns. After the first, he did Swift’s signature Fearless heart hands gesture. “Yeah, man, had to spread the love baby,” he told his brother, shirtless legend Jason, on the New Heights With Jason And Travis Kelce podcast. “Always got to spread that love, baby.”

Sunday’s AFC Championship game airs on CBS and streams on Paramount+ at 3 p.m. EST, followed by the NFC Championship game at 6:30 p.m. EST. To paraphrase Lions celebrity super-fan Tim Robinson, I think you should watch.

Feel The Flow — Using Music To Boost Your Workouts And Work Day

Title
UPROXX

If you’re like me (and the rest of the crew at Uproxx, for that matter) music is a constant throughout your day. Not only do I enjoy sitting down to listen to a new album, or seeing my favorite artists live, but music is constantly playing in the background, no matter what I’m doing. Even when I’m on the move, I’ll have it pumping through my headphones, in my car, in the kitchen… always and everywhere.

Speaking personally, there are two scenarios where having music is less of a “nice-to-have” and more of a necessity. When I’m working or when I’m working out. Maybe you’ve seen those viral memes about forgetting to charge your AirPods before heading the gym. Those hit far too close to home for me.

I’m not alone in this, of course. Studies show that well over 50 percent of workers put on music at work. The same is true for in the gym. In fact, most Americans lack motivation to complete their workouts if they don’t have music. That’s not a bad thing — there are scientifically-backed reasons that listening to tunes while working or working out comes with real benefits. Music has positive effects on productivity, cognitive function, and your emotional state — all factors that make for better time spent at your desk or at the dumbbell rack. Experts even say that listening to your favorite tracks can improve your performance in your work by more than 80 percent.

On top of the benefits that come with listening to music while you’re on task, big headphones and some tunes are also an effective way to block auditory distractions. Are you trying to get some project done while at a cafe, and someone is having a conversation at the table next to you? Are you trying to get your focus on your benchpress and someone is hitting the heavy bag like it owes them money?

Music is often the fix.

Does this mean that all music will help with all kinds of work? No. Here are a few science-backed suggestions for what genres and kinds of compositions you should look for in each scenario, as well as a few Spotify playlist suggestions from our personal collection.

PART I — FOR WORK

Things To Consider:

  • No New Tunes: Remember that Drake and DJ Khaled song “No New Friends?” The workplace is not the place to try checking out new music or artists. For starters you don’t know what to expect out of each song, meaning there could be instrumentation or lyrics that are distracting. Even if there isn’t, you are likely to use up brainpower trying to process the new information. Brainpower that would be better used for your work!
  • Leave Out The Lead Singer: If you have a track with vocals that you are very familiar and in sync with this might not be an issue. But many jobs at a computer involve writing emails, decks, or other kinds of creative thinking, and when a song has lyrics it can confuse the brain. Imagine trying to get out a clear, concise thought and another person is singing, or screaming, a whole different sentence in your ear.
  • Respect The Environment: This is for people who work in an office, co-working space, or other kind of situation where you are in public. If you are allowed to have headphones in nobody can police what you listen to, but perhaps it’s not appropriate to listen to something that’s going to make you head bang in full view of the conference room. It’s also important to understand the effect that music can have on your mindset. So think about the mood of the music as well. Do you want to listen to something super aggressive and then have to interact with a client? Probably not.

GENRE TO EXPLORE: CLASSICAL

Playlist: “Classical For Productivity” by Bach

Why:

This genre is probably the best baseline when it comes to music to work while listening to. There was a study done in 2007 that showed that individuals that listened to classical specifically experienced benefits to their cognition (The Mozart Effect!). There are rarely any vocals, and even if you don’t listen to classical music regularly there are themes and melodies that of course have spawned much of the contemporary composition structure today.

The more “known” the better, so opt for composers like Bach, Haydn, Beethoveen and Mozart. I personally love the playlist above, which includes some classics done by new artists.

GENRE TO EXPLORE: SOUNDTRACKS (VIDEO GAME and MOVIE)

Track: “Demacia Rising” by League of Legends

Why:

Data shows that more than 70 percent of Americans play some sort of video game, which is a pretty big stat. And we’re also some of the biggest movie lovers out there. Soundtracks are great for working because we are familiar with them, they usually lack lyrics and they usually convey a pretty epic feeling. The research identified this music is designed to be “motivating without distracting.”

On top of that, when we are speaking about video games, there is usually an element of problem solving present, which makes it the perfect backdrop for figuring out your latest project. League of Legends is one of the most popular video games around, and it isn’t hurt by the fact they have the most epic compositions in the space. Or go for the soundtrack to a movie you know well — maybe the Gladiator soundtrack if you want to get hyped.

GENRE TO EXPLORE: AMBIENT MUSIC WITH FIELD RECORDINGS

Playlist: “Reflections Under The Sky” by SiJ & Textere Oris

Why:

This genre is all about building an atmosphere, and all the other elements come second. If you are looking for music that won’t steer the way, but instead allows you to take control of the mental journey, then ambient is the way. There is a sub-genre of ambient that includes “field recordings” — the term for taking high definition audio equipment outside to record the sounds of nature.

There are scientific studies around the positive effects that listen to the sounds of nature can have on your emotional state. The better mood you’re in, the better work you are going to produce. I love getting into the zone with the track above.

GENRE TO EXPLORE: AMBIENT MUSIC AT 432 HZ

Playlist: Deep Focus – 432 hz

Why:

There have been a lot of recent studies dedicated to the affect that listening to music tuned to 432 hertz can have on your mental state. Thus far, the results have been positive, with it not only improving your level of focus but also lowering anxiety and stress. Because of these new findings, a number of playlists and videos have popped up with music tuned to 432 hertz. Not just ambient music either, depending on your listening habits you can also find classical and even pop music options. But ambient seems to be the best delivery system for 432 hertz.

PART II — FOR WORKOUTS

Things To Consider:

  • Find Your Tempo: Any music that motivates you may help you in the gym, but if you are really trying to amplify the benefits of listening to tunes while you train, finding the right tempo is key. There has been a lot of research done on what tempo or beats per minute, BPM, is best for what exercise. It should come at no surprise that different tempos are better for different kinds of workouts. For example your “zone two” exercises like jogging can be around 120 BPM, powerlifting can be around 150 BPM, and your elite level running can go up to 180 BPM.
  • Keep Up The Beat: There is nothing more distracting mid-lifting set or a run than losing pace. Lots of workouts and sprinting routines have the beat in mind, so that’s a huge thing to consider when listening to music while working out. Once you find your ideal tempo, it’s good to create a playlist that maintains that pace, or an album that keeps that pace throughout. There are a lot of playlists on music apps like Spotify that are dedicated to certain BPMs.
  • Keep Mood In Mind: Everyone has their own goals when it comes to the gym. And that’s not just referring to any kind of weight they may want to lose or muscle they may want to gain. The gym can also be a place to escape, a place to meditate through movement, a place to purge negativity, and a place to socialize. I personally go to the gym for all of the above. So you are going to want to select music that fits that mood, and have a playlist ready for every occasion.

GENRE TO EXPLORE: ROCK

Playlist: Born To Run (at 150 BPM)

Why:

Studies out there classify rock and alternative music as being the leading genre for Americans. The intensity that is projected with the distortion makes it the perfect fit for individuals looking to get some aggression out through their training. These albums usually have BPMs that fit with what is desired in workout music.

Even better when the songs have a powerful anthemic chorus to sing along with.

GENRE TO EXPLORE: POP

Playlist: Pop Hits (at 130 BPM)

Why:

There’s a reason that popular music is popular, one of the reasons being no matter who the artist is, usually there is a team of people helping them make each track as catchy as possible. The goal is to get you hooked, and keep you coming back for more. That means if you find a tune you like, you may just be able to keep it on repeat the whole session.

These songs are also usually right in that sweet spot for BPM, perfect for getting that head bouncing and the energy up.

GENRE TO EXPLORE: HIP-HOP

Playlist: Hip Hop (at 160 BPM)

Why:

Hip hop is one of the most versatile genres around, and if you disagree get a friend whose a hip-hop lover to school you up. So whether you are looking to release with some big weights or just looking to move and vibe, hip-hop has got you.

For me, I’m a big on lyrics, and I’m looking for some phrases that I can connect with when I’m working out. Even if it’s not every single verse, I want the lyrics to hit me, which often leaves me playing big beats paired with thoughtful lyrics like you’ll find on the playlist above.

The 2024 BRIT Awards nominations have been announced. R&B-pop chanteuse RAYE, whose album My 21st Century Blues was included on many publications’ “Best Of 2023” lists — including Uproxx’s Best Pop Albums Of 2023 — is not only the leading nominee but also makes history with seven nominations. That’s the most nominations for a single artist in a single year since the first BRIT Awards in 1977.

Raye is nominated for artist of the year, best new artist, pop act, R&B act, album of the year, and two songs of the year: “Escapism” with 070 Shake, and “Prada” with with cassö and D-Block Europe. Meanwhile, other nominees include Dua Lipa, with three nominations, Central Cee with four, and J Hus, also with four. The Rolling Stones also won their first nomination since 2013 — more than a decade — for alternative/rock act.
