Sofía Vergara took the role of playing drug lord Griselda Blanco seriously. But not I’m-going-to-do-cocaine-for-real seriously.

During Tuesday’s episode of The Tonight Show, the actress discussed starring in Griselda, a Netflix limited series about the woman affectionally known as the Cocaine Godmother. “The character is insane,” she said. “It was a woman that was raising four kids while she was becoming, you know, a monster.”

Vergara also discussed working with director Andrés Baiz. “He was my anchor during the filming because I had never done anything except Gloria Pritchett,” the four-time Emmy nominee said, referring to her character from Modern Family. “I didn’t know anything. He taught me how to smoke. He taught me how to do cocaine. He taught me a lot.” Fallon cut in, “Alright alright hold on hold on” (it can be annoying when he interrupts his guests, but this time was valid).

Vergara continued, “It was amazing because I was 51 years old and I didn’t even know how to, you know, how to light a cigarette. I’ve never done cocaine. So it’s like, it was amazing. It was like, a great experience.”

She caught herself before anyone got the wrong idea about her method acting:

The news that music fans have been waiting for arrived yesterday, January 16: The 2024 Coachella lineup was unveiled! Lana Del Rey, Doja Cat, and Tyler The Creator are headlining, but there’s one act on the poster that’s perhaps more notable than even those three.

Is No Doubt reuniting for Coachella 2024?

Yes!

No Doubt’s official social media accounts are rarely used, and when they are, it’s mostly for promoting archival material and things like that. That makes sense, considering the band hasn’t been active for years. At 6 p.m. ET yesterday, though, the group shared a minute-long video, which starts with Gwen Stefani reminiscing about the No Doubt days. This results in her hopping on a four-way video call with her old bandmates, and after a bit, they come to the conclusion that they should get back together for a concert. The video ends with a question mark displayed on screen.

Then, a bit over an hour later, Coachella revealed its 2024 lineup, and sure enough, No Doubt is on it.

Back in 2022, Stefani expressed that she’d be open to a No Doubt reunion, saying, “Anything can happen. I have no idea what’s going to happen with No Doubt. We haven’t really talked about doing anything, but it feels like everyone is, right?”

The band previously reunited for the 2012 album Push And Shove, and their last live performance together was in 2015. The timing is good for a reunion right now, as the band’s “Just A Girl” has become a hit on TikTok.

Jimmy Butler‘s taste in music is all over the place. Everyone knows that the Texas native loves country music, he’s a big Taylor Swift fan, and as we learned during his appearance at media day before this season, he’s just like me. (i.e.: A guy in his 30s who still really likes the song “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” by Panic! at the Disco.)

All of this is to say that Butler, perhaps unsurprisingly, wants to pursue his love of music a little more seriously. And in a new piece by Claire de Lune in The Guardian, we learned that Butler is working on a country album, and that he’s already recorded 60 or so songs for the project. Now, this is Jimmy Butler we’re talking about here, so there are equal odds on “this never sees the light of day” and “he will drop it sometime in the next 20 minutes.” But one thing is for sure: If this album does ever get released for public consumption, we will probably not hear Butler sing on it, as he liked his role to something similar to DJ Khaled, who he loves.

“He’s a crazy talented individual,” Butler told de Lune. “To bring all these artists together and to have them be able to maintain the egos and be like, ‘Yo, look, this is what we’re trying to get done here,’ he’s mastered it. I freaking love DJ Khaled. ‘We are the best,’ as he would say.”

Hopefully all of this is trending towards a world where Butler opens a chain of coffee shops that only plays music he created, which sure seems like something he would do.

Mumford & Sons have shared their first taste of new music in five years. Today (January 16), the band premiered their new single, “Good People.”

The song is produced by Pharrell Williams and features the band gearing up for a triumphant new revolution. Over a punchy, percussive track, lead vocalist Marcus Mumford makes a powerful declaration, leading an onward march to victory.

“Good people been down for so long / And now it’s like the sun is rising,” sings Mumford on the song’s chorus.

According to a press release accompanying the premiere of the song, Mumford & Sons first became friends with Pharrell over a decade ago. Through touring and festivals, the two parties linked up, and frequently discussed collaborating. The collaboration finally came together after Pharrell and Mumford & Sons reconnected at Pharrell’s Something In The Water festival at Virginia Beach. The band later met up with Williams in New York City and Paris, where they wrote and recorded new material together.

In addition to Pharrell’s production, he also contributes background vocals, along with the Native Vocalists, a 6-piece dynamic vocal choir honoring the indigenous population within the Northern Great Plains.

“Good People” received its world premiere today at Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton Men’s Autumn/Winter runway show at Paris Fashion Week.

There are show that have been on-air for forever, and then there’s Law & Order: SVU. The police procedural has been cranking out episodes before the turn of the millennium, its first episode bowing in late September, 1999. It’s still going. It may never stop going. SVU is set to begin its 25th season — yes, twenty-fifth! — this month. But when exactly?

The answer: On Thursday, January 18th at 9pm EST, on its forever home at NBC.

Over that quarter century, there’s been one constant: Mariska Hargitay, whose Olivia Benson has gone from Jr. Detective to, in 2021, Captain. Ice-T’s Fin Tutola is the show’s second most enduring character, first appearing in Season 2, also as a Jr. Detective, and now a Sergeant. Good for both of them! Meanwhile, Christopher Meloni’s Sr. Detective Elliot Stabler, who departed in Season 12, has been back since Season 22, albeit only in recurring mode. After all, he’s been busy with another L&O spinoff, Organized Crime.

Though SVU will almost certainly never end, duking it out with The Simpsons on which can remain on TV forever, that doesn’t mean it hasn’t attracted its share of backlash. Back in 2022, the show was called out by John Oliver for essentially offering a “fantasy” version of how real-life police handle sexually-based offenses. But surely its legions of fans know, verisimilitude aside, this isn’t how the criminal justice system really works, right? Right??

Vegyn is in a brand new era. Today (January 16) the DJ, producer, and label head announced his upcoming solo album, The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions, which is set to arrive this spring via his label PLZ Make It Ruins. Ahead of the album, Vegyn has shared a new single and video for “The Path Less Traveled.”

In the accompanying video to the trippy instrumental track, viewers are taken through a grainy day in England, watching tourists bust moves in the street and make their way through town.

Vegyn is known to let his music speak for itself, often picking lengthy yet vague titles for his projects. Of the title The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions, Vegyn said that he is alluding to humans’ internal conflict.

Is it like, ‘by doing the right thing, you actually make more problems’? Or is that ‘the idea in your mind of doing good serves no purpose – you have to actually do it’?,” said Vegyn in a statement.

The highly-anticipated matchup between Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic on Tuesday night lived up to the hype. In the battle of the two players to most recently be named NBA MVP, Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers were able to get the better of Jokic and the Denver Nuggets, 126-121, with both players bringing their A-games for this one.

Embiid went for 41 points with 10 assists and seven rebounds, while Jokic had 25 points and 19 boards. It was a legitimate joy to watch two players at the peak of their powers going up against one another, and after the game, they shared a moment where they hugged and Embiid said something.

Embiid got asked by Allie LaForce of TNT what was said during this exchange, and the reigning league MVP conceded that his predecessor is the best player in the NBA.

“I just told him he’s the best player in the league,” Embiid said. “Like I told you earlier, he won a championship, that’s the best team in the league, and he’s the Finals MVP. So, I was just telling him keep going, see you in two weeks. And keep doing your thing, that’s why you’re the best in the league.”

As Embiid noted, these two will see each other again pretty soon, as the Nuggets are playing host to the Sixers on Jan. 27. It will mark the final time that Embiid and Jokic go up against one another in a competitive game this season … unless, of course, Philly and Denver make it to the NBA Finals.

Halle Bailey had an incredible 2023, with the premiere of two blockbuster films, as well as her debut solo single. And she’s already kicking off 2024 with a bang. Earlier this month, Bailey revealed that she and her beau, rapper DDG, welcomed a baby boy named Halo last year.

Though she remained mum about the pregnancy throughout much of last year, keeping her body hidden with large flowing dresses and garments, Bailey finally took some time to answer fans’ questions via Snapchat.

One fan asked “Was the [sic] blogs and cameras stressful while pregnant?”

Bailey responded, saying “I mean, a little bit, but honestly I stayed off of all social media. I really tried to, just to keep myself sane and okay.”

Though she was quiet on social, that didn’t stop fans from coming up with their own theories, and attempting to catch Bailey or DDG slipping up. But the couple was committed to sharing the news on their own terms.

“I know that there was a lot of people who would always, like, comment and be like, ‘We know, girl, we know.’ And I’m like, ‘Okay, that’s great that you know. But I’m gonna just chill, you know, and that’s wonderful if you support me, and if not, that’s okay too. I hope you have a wonderful life.”

Now, it appears DDG and Bailey are enjoying their new parenthood. So much so, they created an Instagram account for Halo.

Last month John Oliver devoted not a segment but most of an episode to Elon Musk. Was it savage? Oh yes. Was it also kind of measured? Actually, also yes. The Last Week Tonight host found some nice things to say about him, and he painted a complex portrait of a guy who’s not as devious as he sometimes seems, despite often coming off as a “bad guy in a movie.” Musk did not enjoy this report and he, a famously unfunny guy, declared Oliver unfunny. Now Oliver’s striking back, sort of, kind of reluctantly.

Before the Emmys Monday (where his show won one), TMZ caught up with Oliver (as caught by The Daily Beast) to ask what he thought of Musk’s retort. He both didn’t return fire and kind of did.

“You’re going to have to track him down and ask him. I don’t know. That’s a thin skin,” Oliver responded. “I cannot possibly pretend to guess what is in that man’s mind at any time. He seems wounded.”

When asked about Musk’s claim that Oliver’s no longer funny, Oliver shrugged and, with a chuckle, said, “Sure. It’s a fair argument.”

Oliver agreed that Musk is “definitely sensitive, that is a biological fact.” But he didn’t know what to even make of Musk’s claim that he’s lost his edge because he panders to “wokeness.”

“I don’t know what that means,” Oliver said with a laugh. “I don’t think he could explain what that means, and I think it means nothing.”

Oliver was then asked if he thinks their “relationship” is damaged beyond repair.

“I would imagine the relationship between the richest man in the world — second richest — and a mid-tier comedian will probably evaporate,” he replied. (Although it’s worth noting Forbes just named Musk the planet’s number one richest person, although he did lose that title for a bit in late 2022 after initially buying Twitter, which is still costing him money.)

Oliver doesn’t too concerned that Musk no longer finds him funny, but clearly he’s fine with that. After all, we already know what Musk actually finds funny.

Get your pocketbooks ready. The Coachella line-up for the 2024 festival just dropped, and fans are not going to want to miss this. With an incredibly stacked line-up featuring Doja Cat, Lana Del Rey, Tyler The Creator, and No Doubt, anticipation for this year’s Coachella is high.

Tickets for Coachella are never cheap, but with less than three months to the festival — set to take place over the course of two weekends, April 12-14 and April 19-21, there will be opportunities for fans to plan ahead financially, notably with the 50/50 payment plans.

How much are tickets for Coachella 2024?

General admissions tickets go for $499 for tier one, $549 for tier two, and $599 for tier three for both weekend one and two. General admissions tickets that come bundled with a shuttle go for $619 for tier one, $669 for tier two, and $719 for tier three.

VIP packages range from $1,069 to $1,269, and camping and hotel packages will range anywhere from $149 to $11,000. Fans can see a price guide for packages here.

These tickets will certainly burn a hole in fans’ pockets, however, they can sign up for a 50/50 payment plan, which will allow them to pay half the price at the time of the presale, and half at a later date.

Fans can register for the pre-sale now at the official Coachella website. The pre-sale will take place on January 19 at 11 a.m. PST.
