Taylor Swift Is All In On ‘The Bear’ Star Ebon Moss-Bachrach Winning A Critics Choice Award After He Shouted Her Out On Stage

The Critics Choice Awards went down last night (January 14), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach picked up a win for Best Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series, for his role as Richie in The Bear. Taylor Swift, it turns out, may have had a little something to do with the win, as Moss-Bachrach acknowledged.

In his acceptance speech, he gave a bunch of thank-yous, including this one: “I’ve gotta thank my two special scene partners this year, Olivia Colman and Taylor Swift.”

Swift herself caught wind of this and offered Moss-Bachrach and enthusiastic “Congratulations!!” on X (formerly Twitter).

As for what Moss-Bachrach was talking about: The episode “Forks” sees Richie interning at a fancy restaurant (run by Colman’s Chef Terry), and after some initial roadblocks, he ends up coming into his own and doing a good job. Feeling triumphant, there’s a scene where Richie sings along to Swift’s “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)” in the car.

There are actually a number of Swift references in the second season of The Bear. There’s the time Richie tried to get The Eras Tour tickets for his daughter, and the time Tiffany (played by Gillian Jacobs) rocked a 1989 shirt to Christmas dinner.

Speaking of award shows, the Emmys air tonight, so here’s how to watch.

Mom took her teenage son to the ER, and the doctor seriously doubted their relationship

Sage Pasch’s unique family situation has attracted a lot of attention recently. The 20-something mother of 2 shared a 6-second TikTok video on September 29 that has been viewed over 33 million times because it shows how hard it can be for young moms to be taken seriously.

In the video, the young-looking Pasch took her son Nick to the ER after he injured his leg at school. But when the family got to the hospital, the doctor couldn’t believe Pasch was his mother. “POV, we’re at the ER, and the doctor didn’t believe I was the parent,” she captioned the post.

Pasch and her fiancé , Luke Faircloth, adopted the teen in 2022 after his parents tragically died two years apart. “Nick was already spending so much time with us, so it made sense that we would continue raising him,” Pasch told Today.com.

The couple also has a 17-month-old daughter named Lilith.

@coffee4lifesage

He really thought i was lying😭

Pasch says that people are often taken aback by her family when they are out in public. “Everybody gets a little confused because my fiancé and I are definitely younger to have a teenager,” she said. “It can be very frustrating.”

It may be hard for the young parents to be taken seriously, but their story has made a lot of people in a similar situation feel seen. “Omg, I feel this. I took my son to the ER, and they asked for the guardian. Yes, hi, that’s me,” Brittany wrote in the comments. “Meee with my teenager at a parent-teacher conference. They think I’m her older sister and say we need to talk with your parents,” KatMonroy added.

Brian Cox Would Be Into Exhuming Logan Roy For A ‘Succession’ Movie, But He Isn’t So Hot On A Cousin Greg Spinoff

Logan Roy Succession Brian Cox
HBO

Warning: This post contains some spoilers for the final season of Succession, which you should watch if you haven’t, it’s pretty darn good.

A mere three episodes into the final season of Succession, something genuinely shocking happened: Brian Cox’s Logan Roy finally died. Death was always coming for him. Indeed, he almost croaked in the maiden episode, and the entire show, including its title, concerned who would replace him when he did indeed kick the bucket. Though the show may get a spinoff one day, was Season 4 the last we’ll ever see of Logan? Maybe not.

Variety caught up with Cox at the BAFTA Tea Party in Beverly Hills over the weekend, where he was asked if he’d be into exhuming the late head of Waystar Royco for a movie. He wasn’t down on the idea.

“We’ll see,” Cox replied. “If it’s good enough and [series creator] Jesse Armstrong wants to do it, I might do it.”

Cox is pretty opinionated, famously, so the idea that he’s into resurrecting the role that made him super-duper-famous — as opposed to incredibly respected and always welcome — is encouraging for those who wouldn’t mind more business about the Roys.

Still, Cox feels Armstrong and company were right to end the show when and where they did.

“What I love about it and what I love about Jesse Armstrong is we don’t go past our sell-by date,” Cox explained. “A lot of American shows do go past their sell-by dates. We’ve left people wanting. You always want to keep people wanting.”

Not that Cox is into any idea about more Succession. He poo-pooed the idea for a spinoff around Nicholas Braun’s Cousin Greg, which earlier this year he himself was floating.

“I don’t think Nick Braun would want to do it either,” Cox argued. “He’s going onto other things, which are really exciting for him.”

Still, even if there is no Succession movie that dusts off the character who turned “f*ck off” into a ubiquitous battle cry, that’s fine. Everything has to end at some point, and four great seasons of anything should be enough for anybody.

Doctor explains how to do a simple physical test that can predict your longevity

Everyone wants to know how long they will live and there are many indicators that can show whether someone is thriving or on the decline. But people have yet to develop a magic formula to determine exactly how long someone should expect to live.

However, a doctor recently featured on the “Today” show says a straightforward test can reveal the likelihood that someone aged 51 to 80 will die in the near future.

NBC News medical contributor Dr. Natalie Azar was on the “Today” show on March 8 and demonstrated how to perform the simple “sit to stand test” (aka sit-rising test or SRT) that can help determine the longevity of someone between 51 to 80.

The test is pretty simple. Go from standing to sitting cross-legged, and then go back to standing without using any parts of your body besides your legs and core to help you get up and down. The test measures multiple longevity factors, including heart health, balance, agility, core and leg strength and flexibility.

You begin the test with a score of 10 and subtract points on your way up and down for doing the following:

Hand used for support: -1 point

Knee used for support: -1 point

Forearm used for support: -1 point

One hand on knee or thigh: -1 point

Side of leg used for support: -1 point

A 2012 study published by the European Society of Cardiology found a correlation between the SRT score and how long people live. The study was conducted on 2002 people, 68% of whom were men, who performed the SRT test and were followed by researchers in the coming years. The study found that “Musculoskeletal fitness, as assessed by SRT, was a significant predictor of mortality in 51–80-year-old subjects.”

Those who scored in the lowest range, 0 to 3, had up to a 6 times greater chance of dying than those in the highest scores (8 to 10). About 40% of those in the 0 to 3 range died within 11 years of the study.

Azar distilled the study on “Today,” saying: “The study found that the lower the score, you were seven times more likely to die in the next six years.”

“Eight points or higher is what you want,” Azar said. “As we get older, we spend time talking cardiovascular health and aerobic fitness, but balance, flexibility and agility are also really important,” she stressed.

One should note that the people who scored lowest on the test were the oldest, giving them an elevated risk of death.

Dr. Greg Hartley, Board Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist and associate professor at the University of Miami, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that we should take the study with a grain of salt. “Frailty, strength, muscle mass, physical performance—those things are all correlated to mortality, but I would caution everybody that correlation doesn’t mean causation,” he said.

And of course, the test doesn’t take into account injuries or disabilities that may make doing the test impossible. But one of the study’s authors says that the study is a call to take our mobility seriously.

“The more active we are the better we can accommodate stressors, the more likely we are to handle something bad that happens down the road,” Dr. Claudio Gil Araujo, told USA Today.

Is Morgan Wallen Releasing New Music In 2024?

Morgan Wallen 2022 CMAs

Morgan Wallen is fresh off delivering the top album (One Thing At A Time) and top song (“Last Night”) of 2023, according to Billboard‘s year-end charts. So, Wallen really has no reason to rush in putting out new music, but it would appear that he does not care about what he accomplished in 2023.

Is Morgan Wallen Releasing New Music In 2024?

Over the weekend, Wallen posted a song clip to his Instagram alongside the caption, “I guess.” It wouldn’t be a crazy assumption that the unreleased song may very well be called “I Guess” after listening to Wallen’s snippet. He sings, “I guess I’m the problem / And you must never do no wrong / If I’m so awful / Then why’d you stick around this long?” Later, he proclaims, “If I’m the problem, then you might be the reason.” Not exactly an anthem for accountability, but it is catchy.

Posting one song clip to Instagram does not confirm any larger release plans for Wallen, but it is not nothing. Definitely firmly in Something To Monitor territory.

Is Morgan Wallen Touring In 2024?

Last September, Wallen confirmed he would extend his One Night At A Time Tour into 2024. He announced the added dates with an Instagram video co-starring NFL Hall Of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning and his brother, Eli Manning, a former two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback with the New York Giants. Here Are The Musical Guests For ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ This Week

chloe bailey

Last week, Jimmy Fallon revived his “Tight Pants” bit with Matthew McConaughey, so the bar for musical performances is high for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this week (January 15 to 19). Below is what viewers can expect, as per NBC.

Monday, January 15

Seeing as Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, The Tonight Show will air a re-run from last week featuring Tina Fey and LaKeith Stanfield. Mitchell Tenpenny performed “We Got History.”

Bush — Tuesday, January 16

Fallon will chat with Sofía Vergara, Eddie Izzard, and Echo star Alaqua Cox. The band Bush is also scheduled to appear.

Alec Benjamin — Wednesday, January 17

Alec Benjamin teased that 2024 may bring a new album, so it makes sense that he’s hitting the late-night market. The episode will also bring Jodie Foster and Christopher Briney to the couch. I suppose Briney might count as a music-adjacent guest because he stars in the new Mean Girls musical.

BJ The Chicago Kid Feat. Chlöe — Thursday, January 18

Last November, BJ The Chicago Kid dropped “Honey” featuring Chlöe, and they’ll bring it into 2024 on The Tonight Show. Not to mention, the episode will feature Jacob Elordi, who will host SNL on Saturday (January 20), and Ariana DeBose.

Friday, January 19

Friday’s episode will feature Natasha Lyonne, Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr., and Dusty Slay.

Alec Benjamin is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Victor Wembanyama Will Reportedly Participate In The All-Star Skills Challenge

victor wembanyama

Victor Wembanyama has had a strong first half of his rookie campaign, even as the Spurs have struggled as a team. The much-heralded first overall pick from last June’s draft is averaging 19.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game this season, showing off his unique and rather unbelievable skillset — and proving it could have an impact immediately to the NBA game.

Wembanyama has been moved to center of late and the Spurs have been leaning on him more for offensive impact, taking some of the training wheels off as he has gotten comfortable in the league. While Wembanyama won’t be making a rare rookie All-Star Game appearance, the star will have plenty of the spotlight in Indy next month as he’ll not just be part of the Rising Stars Game, but also part of the Saturday night festivities, with Shams Charania reporting Wembanyama will be in the Skills Challenge.

The Skills Challenge isn’t often considered a marquee event of All-Star Weekend, but it will be a fun showcase for Wembanyama and all of the things he can do on the basketball court. Big men have done well in the Skills Challenge in the past — in part because I think they take it a little more seriously — and we’ll see if Wemby can take home his first NBA trophy on Saturday night in Indianapolis.

Here Are The Musical Guests For ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ This Week

On December 20, Nicki Minaj visited The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to celebrate the success of her recently released Pink Friday 2 album and, more importantly, challenge Colbert to a rap battle. According to this Paramount press release, Minaj and Colbert have more up their sleeves this week.

Below are the musical guests (well, all of the guests, but emphasis on the musical guests) expected to appear on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert this week (January 15-19).

Monday, January 15

There is no new episode scheduled for Monday, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Instead, The Late Show will re-air its January 9, 2024 episode featuring Gayle King, Charles Barkley, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

Nicki Minaj, Daniel Caesar, and Jeff Tweedy — Tuesday, January 16

As alluded to, Minaj will appear on Tuesday’s new episode for a segment in which she takes “The Colbert Questionert.” Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy is also a scheduled guest, while Daniel Caesar will give a musical performance. Last October, Caesar visited Colbert and performed “Always” from Never Enough, one of Uproxx’s “Best R&B Albums Of 2023.” Taylor Tomlinson is also set to make a “special appearance,” around her After Midnight debut.

Wednesday, January 17

No musical guests, but beloved British actors Clive Owen and Juno Temple will be Colbert’s guests.

Common — Thursday, January 18

Common is not scheduled to perform, but his interview with Colbert figures to be a delight. Will Colbert prod into rumors that Common is dating Jennifer Hudson with his usual charm and warmth so that it doesn’t feel invasive whatsoever? We’ll see! Comedian Steven Wright will also appear.

Friday, January 19

There is no episode this Friday.

Lil Nas X Stands By His Intentions Behind ‘J Christ,’ But He Does Feel Bad About One Thing, He Thoughtfully Explained

Lil Nas X called his shot in the pre-chorus and chorus of “J Christ” with lines like “You know when I’m back, it’s all for take” and “Is he ’bout to give ’em somethin’ viral?” The answer as to whether Lil Nas X is going viral is usually always yes, but especially when back from a musical hiatus to jumpstart an album cycle. “J Christ” is the presumed lead single from his forthcoming sophomore album, and Lil Nas X is being accused of mocking Christianity. Uproxx’s Aaron Williams already defended Lil Nas X against such a silly allegation, but Lil Nas X is also speaking up for himself (again).

This morning, January 15, Lil Nas X posted a four-and-a-half-minute video in which he explains his intentions with “J Christ” and insists he’s “not trying to diss Christianity.” Watch the full video and read what he said, as transcribed below.

“Hello, everybody. I wanted to not necessarily apologize, but I wanted to explain, like, where my head’s at and where it’s been for the last week. So, first of all, when I did the artwork, I knew there would be some upset people and whatnot, simply because religion is a very sensitive topic for a lot of people, but I also didn’t mean to, like, mock — this wasn’t like a ‘f*ck you to you people, f*ck you to the Christians,’ you know? Like, it was not that. It was literally me saying, ‘Oh, I’m back like Jesus.’ That was the whole thing. I’m not the first person to dress up as Jesus. I’m not the first rapper. I’m not the first artist, and I won’t be the last.

And I know, given my history with the ‘Call Me By Your Name’ video, anything that I do related to religion can be seen as mockery. That just was not the case with this. And I will say, though, with the communion video, with me eating the crackers and juice, I thought that video was gonna be the video to lighten the mood — to take it down, like, less serious and whatnot. I thought that was something that we all wanted to do as kids and whatnot, but I didn’t understand the idea of, you know, the reality of what it is. It’s me eating the communion, which is the symbolism of Jesus’ blood and bones or something like that. I don’t remember completely. But I did not mean it as a cannibalism thing, or whatever the freak. But I do apologize for that. I will say I’m sorry for that.

Though I don’t agree with all of Christianity’s rules and whatnot, I know not everybody follows Christianity by the book, 100 percent, or, you know, the world would be a lot crazier. But I do apologize for that. […] This is not to try to get everybody on my good side or whatnot. This is more so to clear my own head about my own decisions. I know I messed up really bad this time, and I can act unbothered all I want, but it’s definitely taken a mental toll on me. […] I know this is not gonna be an immediate, like, swift — everybody moves forward or whatnot, but I do want my Christian fans to know that I am not against you. I was put on this Earth to bring people closer together and promote love, and that’s who I am. I’m not some evil demon guy trying to destroy everybody’s values and stuff like that. That’s not me.

And also, with the video, there’s no disrespect there. I thought me clearly not being on the side of the devil in that video […] there was an understanding there that I’m not, like, trying to diss Christianity. Also, this is not something I wrote down or whatnot. This is something off the top of my head I’m trying to get out. Lastly, again, I hope, sooner or later, we can move forward, and I’m excited for the rest of this era and things I have planned. Yeah, I mean, that’s all I have to say for right now. I’m sending you guys love. I’m sending my fans love. I’m sending the people who I hurt love.”
