Ryan Gosling Ken Barbie
Warner Bros.

For a little while, there was some uncertainty about whether Ryan Gosling would perform his Barbie movie favorite “I’m Just Ken” at the 2024 Oscars. A few days ago, though, Variety confirmed that he will take the Academy Awards stage to bust out the song, and now the Academy itself has revealed the full list of musical performers set to play their songs at this year’s ceremony, on March 10 at 7 p.m. ET.

Who Is Performing At The 2024 Oscars?

There are five songs nominated for the Best Original Song award this year, and as Variety notes, all of them will be performed during this year’s ceremony. The list of songs and their performers is as follows:

The First Look At ‘The Crow’ Reboot Is Out, And People Sure Have Thoughts: ‘Like Machine Gun Kelly Cosplaying Jared Leto’s Joker’

Brandon Lee The Crow
Miramax

You are not the only one who’s heard about The Crow reboot in several iterations over the past few decades while possibly fearing that it would come to fruition. The talk persisted despite Brandon Lee’s performance in the 1994 Miramax movie (which faithfully brought James O’Barr’s graphic novel to life) fitting the very definition of “iconic.” Hollywood can never resist retooling beautiful things, so this turn of events isn’t necessarily surprising, but it also feels doubly disheartening that Lee suffered a fatal accident while making the original movie, and still, cinema will not let his memory RIP.

A reboot was eventually going to happen, even after unremarkable sequels. Earlier this week, Lionsgate announced that The Crow had even moved up on the release schedule to June 2024, so this is happening close to the Lee film’s 30-year anniversary. Rupert Sanders (Ghost in the Shell, Snow White and the Huntsman) is directing, Bill Skarsgård is on hand for the Eric Draven role, and FKA Twigs will portray Shelley Webster. As viewers recall, the original film saw the pair murdered on Devil’s Night (Oct. 30), and the brutal way that Shelley was killed (and Eric was thrown out a window) drove a crow to carry Eric’s soul back from the dead, so that he could seek vengeance.

Lionsgate recently unfurled a synopsis for the reboot, which appears to be changing the reason why the pair was targeted. In the 1994 film, Shelley had been protesting anti-tenant practices, and for the 2024 movie, “demons of her dark past” will be afoot. Hmm:

Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.

Fast forward a few days, and Lionsgate released first images from the film via Vanity Fair:

Let’s just say that Jared Leto’s Suicide Squad version of the Joker is on plenty of people’s fingertips after seeing Bill’s look. “Eric my love I’m so sorry” and “machine gun kelly cosplaying jared leto’s joker” are also in the mix, as well as “this is an outrage and an insult to goths everywhere.” Oh boy.

The Crow reboot goes “caw!” in theaters on June 7.

Cigarettes After Sex Announces Their New Album ‘X’s,’ And Shares Their Silky New Single ‘Tejano Blue’

Cigarettes After Sex has announced their new album, X’s. On the project, lead vocalist Greg Gonzalez captures a romantic arc, vividly detailing every emotion. Ahead of X’s, Cigarettes After Sex has shared the song “Tejano Blue,” on which, Gonzalez taps into the music of his El Paso upbringing, creating a gorgeous, timeless love song.

According to a press release, X’s will take inspiration from “’70s/’80s slow dance” music while evoking a feeling “akin to disco ball-refracted tears on the dance floor.”

“The record feels brutal,” said Gonzalez in a statement accompanying the album announcement. “I could sit and talk about this loss to someone, but that wouldn’t scratch the surface. I have to really write about it, sing about it, have the music, and then I can start to analyze and learn from it. Or just relive it–in a good way. I don’t have that Eternal Sunshine thing of wanting to forget.”

You can listen to “Tejano Blue” above see the X’s cover art and tracklist below. The band also announced a whole bunch of tour dates for 2024 and 2025, so find those below, too.

Fred Again.., Lil Yachty, And Overmono Want To Continue Past A Relationship’s Rough Patch On ‘Stayinit’

Fred Again.. teamed up with Lil Yachty and Overmono to treat fans with the new single, “Stayinit.” This marks Fred Again..’s first new song of the year, building off the success he found in 2023 with tracks like “Leavemealone” with Baby Keem and “Adore U” with Obongjayar. It also continues his USB series, according to NME.

“I know you / Down with the pain, see the rain / Realize everybody won’t be perfect / But I do / Try hard to fix the mistakes that I made with you,” Lil Yachty points out in the emotional lyrics, seemingly inspiring the track’s title, as he takes the perspective of hoping the other person stays in the relationship — mistakes and all.

Instrumentally, it opens with a chill electronic production that transforms Yachty’s voice. It then builds in intensity on the “stay in it” chorus, when Yachty’s vocals cut out and are replaced with a techno dance beat that’s sure to excite a crowd.

Along with the song, the visualizer includes a behind-the-scenes moment of Fred Again..’s run from a few weeks ago, where he performed at Knockdown Center in NYC. It “captures the moment yachty hears this song on a proper system for the first time,” as Fred himself put it — complete with light displays and all.

Check out “Stayinit” above.

This first edition of the fest, which shares its name with Harlow’s 2017 mixtape Gazebo and will feature two stages, will be headlined by SZA and Harlow himself. Beyond them, the full lineup features James Blake (doing a DJ set), Omar Apollo, PinkPantheress, Vince Staples, Amaarae, Channel Tres, Majid Jordan, Slum Village, Veeze, Dahi, Jordan Ward, Ravyn Lenae, Rich Homie Quan, BNYX, James Savage, Karrahbooo, and Malcolm Todd.

Emo Jimmy Butler Returned In Fall Out Boy’s Latest Music Video

For the second straight year, Jimmy Butler decided to use preseason media day as a chance to have some fun. A year after showing up with extremely long extensions for his official photoshoot, Butler arrived to Miami’s media day with his hair straightened in an emo cut — perhaps offering a glimpse into his mood after the Heat failed to land Damian Lillard in a trade.

A visit to any of the various stats websites that use the official headshots from each season will provide a reminder of Butler’s emo look from before the season, as it really is a great bit from him. However, it appears there was more to this season’s look than just having some fun with what he’ll look like in lineup cards and on stats websites.

On Wednesday, Fall Out Boy released a new music video for their song “So Much (For) Stardust” that features Jimmy Butler (in his emo cut) wearing a bedazzled purple suit and cowboy hat, dancing in snakeskin boots alongside Pete Wentz (dressed in the same thing, but silver). That’s literally the entire 4-minute video, just a couple guys being dudes in jazzy cowboy outfits singing and dancing along to the song. It’s good timing to put out a music video featuring Butler, as he and the Heat are riding a hot streak currently, winning five straight and seven of their last eight to climb into a tie for the 5-seed in the East with Philadelphia.

Why Was Usher Mentioned In A New Diddy Lawsuit?

usher
Getty Image

Early this week, NBC News reported that Diddy had been named in a new sexual harassment lawsuit filed by Rodney “Lil Rod Madeit” Jones, a producer on Diddy’s album The Love Album: Off The Grid. The suit also named Diddy’s son, Justin Combs; chief of staff Kristina Khorram; Universal Music Group CEO Sir Lucian Grainge; and former Motown Records CEO Ethiopia Habtemariam as defendants for either aiding Diddy or failing to address complaints about his behavior.

However, as news of the suit spread, some other names mentioned in the suit piqued music fans’ interest. One of those names was Usher’s. So,

Why Was Usher Mentioned In The New Lawsuit Against Diddy?

Usher is not named as a defendant in the suit; however, a redacted excerpt caught the attention of gossip blogger DJ Akademiks, who used the provided footnotes to extrapolate the identities of the redacted names. “Mr. Combs informed Mr. Jones that he had engaged in sexual intercourse with rapper[5] (REDACTED), R&B singer[6] (REDACTED), and Stevie J,” it read. The footnotes provided background info for anyone involved who might need context for the redacted names. 5 was described as “a Philadelphia Rapper who dated Nicki Minaj,” which could only be Meek Mill, while 6 “performed at the Super Bowl and had a successful Vegas residency.”

That sure sounds like Usher, right?

Now, it’s important to remember that unless these assertions are corroborated, they should probably be taken with a massive grain of salt — actually, just throw the whole salt shaker in there. Celebrity lawsuits are often filled with lurid details to bait headlines that plaintiffs’ lawyers hope will prompt quick settlements to avoid lengthy trials and more embarrassing headlines. In Diddy’s case, although he did quickly settle his ex Cassie’s sexual assault lawsuit last year, he’s since maintained that the wave of suits that followed it was just a series of money grabs.

anatomy of a fall

Every year, a handful of international language films become breakout mainstream hits in America. In 2022, it was RRR and Decision to Leave, among others. Last year, it was The Zone of Interest, The Boy and the Heron, Godzilla Minus One, and Anatomy of a Fall, which made $4.7 million at the domestic box office and nearly $30 million worldwide. Justine Triet’s French legal drama, about a woman (played by Sandra Hüller) who is accused of murdering her husband, is also up for five Oscars, including Best Picture.

If you didn’t catch Anatomy when it was in theaters, good news: it’s coming to Hulu on Friday, March 22nd. That’s not in time for the 2024 Oscars, which air on March 10th, but you should still check it out. It’s a very good movie! With the year’s best Good Boy.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

For the past year, Sandra, her husband Samuel, and their eleven-year-old son Daniel have lived a secluded life in a remote town in the French Alps. When Samuel is found dead in the snow below their chalet, the police question whether he was murdered or committed suicide. Samuel’s suspicious death is presumed murder, and Sandra becomes the main suspect. What follows is not just an investigation into the circumstances of Samuel’s death but an unsettling psychological journey into the depths of Sandra and Samuel’s conflicted relationship.

This innovative sustainable luggage will elevate your travel game

Who doesn’t love the thrill of packing their bags, the anticipation of new adventures, and the joy of exploring unseen corners of the world? There’s something magical about travel, about the stories we gather and the memories we create. Yet, in the midst of all this excitement, it’s easy to overlook the ecological footprint we leave behind on the very places we cherish.

As we traverse our beautiful planet, every choice we make matters—including the choices about how we carry our essentials. Luckily, we don’t have to compromise on the way we travel to protect the beauty of our planet. Because a brand called Horizn Studios is redefining what it means to travel with conscience and style.

The Problem With Most Luggage

Few things can elevate your travel game like beautifully designed luggage. Anyone who’s ever gone anywhere knows the right gear can make it easier to move around, catch flights, and navigate unfamiliar terrain. It also provides peace of mind because you know your stuff is safe, secure, and accessible. However, these days we can no longer afford to put style and comfort ahead of the planet.

Right now the world is producing almost 400 million metric tons of plastics per year, and over the last 50 years more than 130 million metric tons of plastics have accumulated in our oceans, lakes, and rivers. And most travel gear on the market today is part of the problem for two very simple reasons: it’s not built to last, and it’s not made using sustainable materials and manufacturing processes.

But choosing eco-friendly travel gear doesn’t have to mean settling for less. Horizn Studios stands at the forefront of a revolution, crafting luggage, backpacks, and travel accessories that look good and do good.

Driven By Innovation

When it comes to eco-friendly travel gear, Horizn Studios is a revolution on 360° spinner wheels. This company is pushing boundaries with innovative materials and features. It started when they launched the world’s first suitcases with removable chargers, which ensure your devices never die when you need them most. But Horizn didn’t stop there. Their commitment to a greener future drove them to pioneer the use of recycled polycarbonate and plant-based materials, crafting luggage that’s not only durable but also kind to the planet.

Horizn’s quest to innovate also led to cool collaborations with iconic brands like BMW, Beats By Dre, and Soho House, not to mention some of the world’s most acclaimed artists. These partnerships infuse Horizn products with unparalleled ingenuity and style, ensuring that every product, from backpacks to travel accessories, stands at the intersection of high-end functionality and sustainability.

World’s Most Sustainable High-End Luggage

At the heart of Horizn Studios‘ ethos is a deep-rooted commitment to sustainability, a principle that guides every step of their design and manufacturing process. For example, their Circle One collection boasts the world’s first 100% plant-based hard shell. Meanwhile, their RE Series utilizes an impressive 97% recycled polycarbonate.

Horizn’s commitment to sustainability also extends every step of their products’ lifecycle. For example, Horizn’s Stop, Drop & Roll recycling program allows travelers to bring in old luggage (of any make) for proper recycling, offering Horizn store credit in return. For Horizn Studios sustainability isn’t just a buzzword. This holistic approach to sustainable travel, from the use of recycled and vegan materials to end-of-life product management, solidifies Horizn as a true leader in the movement toward a more sustainable and mindful way of exploring the world.

Style Meets Functionality

Beyond their commitment to sustainability, what also sets Horizn Studios apart from other brands is their attention to high-end style and innovative functionality. All of their products combine sleek design and high performance durability, so that practicality and style exist in perfect harmony.

When you buy luggage from Horizn Studios you get tons of innovative features. These include things like integrated removable chargers, TSA-approved locks, smart compartments for laptops and other essentials, durable water-resistant fabrics, and ultra-light materials—in other words, the sorts of things that refine and enhance your travel experience.

Travel Products for the Next Generation

Products designed to last five years are manufactured in the cheapest way possible. That’s why they don’t cost very much. If you want quality and sustainability, you have to invest a little more. With Horizn, when you make an investment to enhance travel experience, you know you are getting the best of the best—smart, beautiful luggage that is ethically designed and manufactured from start to finish. And best of all, every piece comes with a lifetime warranty and a risk-free 100-day trial, so you can test the waters with complete confidence.
