Nobody Knows Where Usher Is Right Now (In The Fictional Universe Of A New Super Bowl Halftime Show Teaser, At Least)

Usher has a full schedule over the next few days: He’s dropping a new album, Coming Home, on Friday, and a couple days later, he’s performing the Super Bowl Halftime Show. So, it would be an awful time for the entertainer to go missing, but that is just what has happened… not in real life, but in a new teaser video from Apple Music.

The video starts with Ludacris, Lil Jon, and Taraji P. Henson hanging around outdoors (outside of a fancy Las Vegas hotel, perhaps?). The trio then FaceTimes Apple CEO Tim Cook (who’s wearing an Usher graphic tee), and he asks how a dinner they had last night went. They then break the news that they lost Usher and don’t know where he is, which prompts a disappointed Cook to hang up. He then texts the group, “You will find him!”

This presumably sets up a series that will continued to be shared in the days leading up to the big performance. Perhaps most notably, though, this ad might serve as a teaser of Ludacris and Lil Jon joining Usher to perform their hit collaboration “Yeah!” during the halftime show. We’ll know for sure this weekend.

Check out the video above.

Dad shares family’s confusion when his young son demanded ‘people chicken’ for dinner

One of the best parts of having kids is having a full-time, front row seat to the way they interpret and use language as they grow. There’s the classic mispronunciations of “spaghetti,” of course, but there are also one-of-a-kind terms they coin based on their limited vocabulary and the unique way they look at the world.

Kids say the darnedest things, and as Dillon White shared on Instagram, one of those darned things could be a young child requesting “people chicken” for dinner. Not just requesting, but demanding: “I WANT PEOPLE CHICKEN!!”

People chicken. There are only so many ways to interpret that, all of which could land you on the FBI’s radar.

Of course, it was a small child saying this, so there had to be an explanation.

White explained that he and his wife tried everything to get their kiddo to clarify what he meant by “people chicken,” including having him draw a picture of what he was wanting. Unfortunately, the stick figure person he drew did not help relieve any concerns that their child might be a cannibal.

Finally, White’s 7-year-old daughter came up with a solution that revealed what her younger brother wanted. It was not, in fact, chicken made out of people. Phew.

Watch:

It’s true. Once you see Colonel Sanders’ bow tie as a stick figure, you can’t unsee it.

Even KFC’s official account responded to the video, writing, “You see it once, and you can’t unsee it.” HA.

White was not alone in his kid seeing the stick figure Col. Sanders.

“The SAME thing (conversation) happened to us 22 years ago!! My toddler was practically throwing himself trying to make us understand that he wanted ‘Old Man Chicken’!!!!!! And yup, it was KFC he was asking for. We have referred to it as ‘Old Man Chicken’ all these years now 😂!!” shared on commenter.

“About halfway through we figured out what he was talking about but that’s only because my kids have been saying for years that the KFC man is a stick figure with a really big head. Tell Mason he’s not the only kid who thought that.Lol 😂😂😂” shared another.

“I think I’ve been working with children too long because the instant you said people chicken my brain said ‘that’s kfc,’ 😂 wrote another.

Other people chimed in to share their kids’ hilarious naming conventions for chicken places:

“My son was in tears for ‘Pinky Toe.’ Turns out he thought the Chick-fil-A emblem was a foot 😂,” wrote one parent.

“Lol. My daughter refers to Chick-fil-A as ‘foot’ because their logo actually reserved a footprint. So interesting thinking of the different ways that children see things that we adults don’t. It’s amazing!” shared another.

“My kids call Buffalo Wild Wings ‘stinky skunks’ because from a distance, the logo looks like a skunk to them. We went through a similar very confusing moment to figure that one out as you can imagine, 🤦♀️🤣” shared another.

White is right. We should let kids name everything. They’re so much better at it than adults are.

The 1975 Shares ‘Now Is The Hour,’ An Intimate New Song From ‘The New Look’ Soundtrack

We are just a week out from Apple TV+’s new original drama series, The New Look, which tells the story of fashion designers Christian Dior, Coco Chanel and their contemporaries as they launched a brand new era of fashion on the heels of World War II.

Ahead of The New Look‘s premiere, The 1975 has shared their new song, “Now Is The Hour” from the show’s soundtrack.

On the short, but sweet song, lead vocalist Matty Healy is lamenting saying goodbye to a lover, but promises to always wait for them.

“Now is the hour / When we must say goodbye / Soon you’ll be sailing / Far across the sea / While you’re away / Then remember me / When you return, you’ll find me / Waiting here,” sings Healy.

The song, along with the entirety of The New Look‘s soundtrack, was produced by Jack Antonoff. This past weekend, Antonoff won the Producer Of The Year (Non-Classical) award at the 2024 Grammys. In an interview with British GQ published last month, Antonoff expressed his excitement toward the current landscape of music.

“Music is in an exciting time because a lot of people are rediscovering the joy of the unpredictability of instruments,” he said. “I like hearing live drums, live bass instead of subs. A lot more bands are popping up. It’s a nice thing. There’s a community to it. When you witness the community of a band playing, it can be really beautiful and hopeful.”

You can listen to “Now Is The Hour” above.

The New Look premieres on Apple TV+ 2/14 with three episodes, and additional episodes streaming weekly.

The New Look soundtrack is out 4/3 via Shadow Of The City and Dirty Hit. Find more information here.

Beyoncé Announced Her Cécred Line Of Hair Care Products With A Cryptic Trailer

Beyoncé has something special up her sleeve. No, it doesn’t look like the long-awaited visuals for her Renaissance album. But perhaps something just as sacred. Or shall we say, “Cécred?”

Tonight (February 6), Bey took to social media to announce her new line of haircare products, called Cécred. As Bey is known to do, she kept very mum about what to expect. A video shared to Instagram shows a montage of people washing, combing, and brushing their hair. Though we’re not sure what kinds of products to expect — in the way of shampoos, conditioners, and/or dyes — Bey did reveal that Cécred is, in fact, a hair care line, simply by captioning the post, “Hair is sacred.”

Also in the post’s caption, she revealed Cécred arrives Feb. 20, and tagged the handle to the brand’s official Instagram account. On Cécred’s Instagram page is a bio reading “Haircare by @beyonce,” as well as the brand’s official website.

The website plays the same video from the social handles, however, invites visitors to enter their email address and phone numbers to receive updates.

At the time of writing, neither Bey nor Cécred have indicated if the products will be available to purchase in stores.

Kumail Nanjiani Says ‘Reading Every’ Bad Review Of ‘Eternals’ Sent Him To Counseling

Kumail Nanjiani Eternals
Disney

Remember Eternals? It was supposed to be the classy Marvel movie. Its director, Chloe Zhao, had recently won a Best Director Oscar for a movie that won Best Picture. It had a fancy non-linear structure. It had the MCU’s first gay superhero. And yet when it came out it had the worst Rotten Tomatoes score of the franchise. (Currently that honor goes to Ant-Man 3.) It wasn’t a box office bomb, but it was an early sign that Marvel’s reign was on the wane. Eternals‘ relative failure even so got to one of its stars that he sought help.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Kumail Nanjiani — who got ripped to play Eternals member Kingo Sunen — went on the podcast Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum. There he reflected on what he was assured would be a “slam dunk,” and how he handled things when it wasn’t. Indeed, when the reviews came out, he said, “that was very, very tough for me and I realized that too much of how I’m evaluating what I want to do is based on the result of what other people think of it.”

Making it worse was all the hype surrounding it pre-release.

“It was really, really hard because Marvel thought that movie was going to be really, really well reviewed,” he recalled, “and so they lifted the embargo really early and they also put it in some fancy movie festivals and they sent us on a big global tour promoting the movie right as the embargo lifted.”

Nanjiani remembered having to “travel the world while they thought we’d be going on a wave of raves and it wasn’t true. The reviews were really bad.” Najiani didn’t shield him from the bad press. Instead he found himself “reading every review.” That wasn’t good for his mental health.

“I think there was some weird soup in the atmosphere for why that movie got slammed so much, and I think not much of it has to do with the actual quality of the movie,” he argued. “It was really hard, and that was when I thought it was unfair to me and unfair to [my wife] Emily, and I can’t approach my work this way anymore. Some sh*t has to change, so I started counseling. I still talk to my therapist about that.”

Was the critical reaction that bad? Eternals might have scored a rotten, but a lot of the review (including Uproxx‘s) praised the ambition, the swings at the fences, the way they all tried to make a different Marvel movie — even if it was ultimately deemed unsuccessful. Nanjiani himself also got decent notices. But when you’ve been convinced that you’ve got a game-changing smash on your hands, one that will wow audiences and critics alike, and that decidedly does not happen, yes, that must stink.

You can watch Nanjiani’s full appearance in the video below. The Eternals business begins around the 23-minute mark.

What Time Does Mitski Go On Stage For ‘The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We Tour?’

Indie darling Mitski has had much of a breakthrough in recent months. Her song “My Love Mine All Mine” has proven to be a viral hit on TikTok, and is her first song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Mitski is currently on tour in support of her seventh album, The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We. During the tour, Mitski will be supported by Tamino, Sunny War, Julia Jacklin, and Sarah Kinsley on select dates. While the opening acts are promising, Mitski fans look forward to seeing the singer/songwriter perform her extensive catalog.

What time does Mitski go on stage for The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We Tour?

According to a few Setlist.fm entries, Mitski has arrived to the stage at 9:05 p.m, for shows beginning at 8:00 p.m.

Mitski’s set contains 25 songs, with selects from each of her seven albums. According to Setlist.fm, the set takes place over an hour and a half. So fans can expect the shows to wrap around 10:30 p.m.

In an interview with NPR from last September, Mitski shared that she feels she thrives in settings where the love is tangible. This is certainly the case for her concerts, as fans have poured out their love for her.

“I realized that if there’s no light around me, it’s kind of up to me to be the light for myself,” Mitski said. “And I think that light is love for me as long as I just hold on to my love for people, for the world, for getting to live. Then my world will have love in it.”

Matt Gaetz Says He Sure Misses George Santos (And Even Kevin McCarthy) After The House GOP’s Disastrous Day Of Voting

Matt Gaetz George Santos

The GOP has been narrowly — very narrowly — in charge of the House of Representatives since last January. How are they doing? Not great! They’ve gotten nothing accomplished (apart from getting handsy at Beetlejuice), and they’ve already ousted one Speaker. But after Mike Johnson replaced Kevin McCarthy, they actually seem to be doing worse. Tuesday was a bloodbath for House Republicans, with two humiliating defeats in a row. Things are so bad one of them is wondering if they shouldn’t have lost two of its more notorious members.

Per Mediaite, after the House failed to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Majorkas — then fumbled on an Israel aid package — MAGA’s number one son Matt Gaetz went on Newsmax to whine. He was particularly miffed over the former, which ended in a tie — far from the majority needed to boot Majorkas.

“As I’m watching that board and it’s 215 to 215, I have never missed George Santos more,” Gaetz told Eric Bolling.

Gaetz later noted he maybe they shouldn’t have driven away another key alum, saying, “I also wondered like, wouldn’t it have been nice to still have Kevin McCarthy in the House of Representatives? Never thought you’d hear me say that.”

McCarthy, you might recall, was kicked out of his post in the fall. Who was behind that? Gaetz, of course, who was a pain in the butt when McCarthy was trying to get the Speaker job, only to lead the call to remove him. Their reward? They didn’t have enough votes to get their agenda passed.

As for Santos, well, his pyramid of lies and exaggerations and general shadiness finally got him booted, nearly a year after his misleading campaign got him the gig. He briefly rebounded as a Cameo star, which sounds about right. After the failed votes, Santos made sure to echo Gaetz’s comments.

The Israel aid bill, which was to earmark $17.6 billion to the nation which has taken a controversial, to say the least, approach to retaliating against Hamas, fared a bit better, with 250 for and 180 against. Passage required two-thirds support, and though nearly four dozen Democrats voted for it, over half a dozen Republicans opposed.

Alas, these are but two of the calamities that befell the Republican party Tuesday. A federal appeals court also denied Donald Trump’s claim of absolute immunity and the RNC lost honcho Ronna McDaniel. In other words, a banner day.
