Jason Momoa Sings Into A Chicken Wing Alongside Zach Braff And Donald Faison In A New Super Bowl Ad

Fans are used to seeing Jason Momoa play a rugged tough guy, or go on a naked bike ride, or be a fish, but we never really get that fun musical side of the 6′ 4″ Hawaiian native. It seems like he’s been sick of just being known as a jacked-up actor and has decided to try a new gig: singing in commercials.

“People are just seeing a different side of me,” Momoa recently told Variety. In order to show off a different side, Momoa joined the Kings Of Musical Comedy Commercials, Zach Braff and Donald Faison in a new ad for T-Mobile. As it turns out, Momoas is the right amount of silly-goofy for it to work.

The commercial shows the three actors dancing to Irene Cara’s “Flashdance… What a Feeling” while changing the lyrics to be Super Bowl-related (it’s the greatest time of year for commercials). There’s wings! A little dance breakdown! Jokes! It’s everything you’ve ever wanted from a T-Mobile commercial, especially if you even use T-Mobile.

“He was so fun, so high energy, in such a silly mood like we always are. I think it really shows,” Faison told Variety. “It’s kind of like a rock musical in a lot of ways when he jumps on board.”

This is just the latest musical commercial from T-Mobile, who brought John Travolta back last year for a mini Grease callback with Braff and Faison. Verizon better step up its game and get the cast of Community to sing a song with The Rock if they have any shot of topping this one.

The NBA Will Have An LED Court For All-Star Saturday Night And The Celebrity Game

NBA All-Star Court
NBA

The NBA world will descend on Indianapolis, Indiana in two weeks for All-Star Weekend, where the NBA’s best will get to showcase their talents across the three days of events.

The festivities will be split between the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where the Rising Stars Challenge and All-Star Game itself will be played, and Lucas Oil Stadium, where the Celebrity Game and All-Star Saturday Night competitions will be held. The court for the actual game competitions at Gainbridge Fieldhouse will be your typical courts, but the Celeb Game and Saturday Night festivities will be played on an LED court that the NBA unveiled on Monday afternoon.

Given that each competition on Saturday Night has different branding elements, the Celeb Game features a 4-point shot line, and the Stephen Curry vs. Sabrina Ionescu three-point shootout will include the WNBA three-point line, it makes sense that the league would look to an alternative to putting a ton of different lines of paint on a court. The LED court will allow them to change the look of the court between competitions — along with some animations when things happen — without needing to build a new court between Friday and Saturday or bring out as much physical branding between competitions.

The hope is this makes for a bit smoother Saturday night of competitions, as the setup will just be the various elements of each competition, and we’ll just have to see if the visual elements of the LED court translate to TV in the way the league hopes. That, along with player feedback on the feel of the court, may very well determine if the league explores expanding the use of this type of court to actual gameplay, but for now it will just be for the Celeb Game and Saturday Night competitions.

6 alternatives to saying ‘let me know if you need anything’ to someone in crisis

When we see someone dealing with the loss of a loved one or some other major life crisis, it’s instinctual for many of us to ask how we can help. Often, the conversation looks something like this:

Us: I am SO sorry you’re going through this. What can I do to help?

Person in crisis: I honestly don’t know right now.

Us: Okay…well…you let me know if you need anything—anything at all.

Person in crisis: Okay, thank you.

Us: I mean it. Don’t hesitate to ask. I’m happy to help with whatever you need.

And then…crickets. The person never reaches out to take you up on the offer.

Was it that they didn’t really need any help, this person going through a major life crisis? Unlikely. As sincere as our offer may have been, the problem may be that we didn’t really offer them what they actually needed.

One of those needs is to not have to make decisions. Another is to not have to directly ask for help.

When a person is in a state of crisis, they can feel like they’re drowning. They might be disoriented and fatigued, and doing anything other than keeping their head above water long enough to breathe can feel like too much.

If someone is drowning, you don’t ask them what you can do to help or wait for them to ask. You just take action.

Here are some specific ways you can take action to help someone who you know needs help but isn’t able or willing to ask for it:

1. Make them food

It may be tempting to ask if you can make them a meal and wait for them to say yes or no, but don’t. Simply ask if they or anyone in their household has any dietary restrictions, and then start shopping and cooking.

Meals that can be popped in the refrigerator or freezer and then directly into the oven or microwave are going to be your best bets. Include cooking or reheating instructions if it’s not obvious. Disposable aluminum trays are great for homemade freezer-to-oven meals and can be found at just about any grocery store. Casseroles. Stir fried rices. Soups. Comfort foods.

If you don’t cook, you can buy them gift cards to local restaurants that deliver, or give them a DoorDash or UberEats gift certificate (large enough to cover the delivery, service fees and tip as well, which combined can be as much as a meal sometimes).

2. Organize a meal train

If you want to make it a community-wide effort and no one else has done so yet, set up a “meal train,” where different people sign up for different days to bring meals to spread out the food help over time. There are several free websites you can use for this purpose, including Give In Kind, Meal Train, and Take Them a Meal. These sites make it super easy for anyone with the personalized link to sign up for a meal.

2. Clean their kitchen and/or bathrooms

Kitchens are always in use, and keeping up with dishes, especially in a house full of people, is a challenge even under normal circumstances. Same with keeping the refrigerator cleaned out. Same with cleaning the bathroom.

Rather than asking if they want it done, as many people won’t want to say yes even if they would appreciate the help, try saying something like, “I want to come and make sure your kitchen is ready for you to make food whenever you want to and that your bathroom is a clean space for you to escape to whenever you feel like it. Is Tuesday or Wednesday at 1:00 better for you?”

The fewer complex decisions a person in crisis has to make the better, so saying, “Is this or that better?” rather than offering open-ended possibilities can be helpful.

3. Do laundry

Offer to sit and chat with them, let them vent if they need to…and fold their laundry while you’re at it.

Are they the kind of people who might be embarrassed by you seeing or handling their underclothes? Fine. Wash, dry and fold towels or bedsheets instead. Just keep the laundry moving for them.

And if it doesn’t feel appropriate or desirable for you to do their laundry at their house, you can offer a pick-up laundry service, either yourself or an actual hired service. Tell the person to put bags or bins of laundry at the door and you (or the service) will come pick it up and bring it back clean and folded the next day. That’s a great way to be of service without feeling like you’re intruding.

man pulling food and toilet paper out of the car

4. Run errands for them

“Hey, I’m heading out to the store, what can I grab you while I’m there?” is always a welcome phone call or text. Let them know when you’re going to be running your own errands and see if there’s anything they need dropped at the post office, picked up from the pharmacy, or anything else.

You can also offer to run errands with them. “Hey, I’ve got some errands to run. Do you want to join me?” They may have no desire to leave the house, or they may desperately want to leave the house, so be prepared for either answer, but the offer is solid. Even just not having to drive might be a relief if they have things they need to pick up or drop off places.

woman holding hands with a small child as they walk

5. Provide childcare

If the person is a parent, taking their kid(s) out for a chunk of the day can be a big help. Caring for yourself is hard when you’re going through a difficult time, and the energy a person might use to actually do that often gets usurped by caring for others. Obviously, parents can’t just neglect their children, so anything you can do to relieve them of that responsibility for a while is gold.

Offering to take the kids to do something fun—a day at the park, ice skating, etc. is even better. A parent knowing their kid is safe, occupied and happy is its own form of relief.

6. Ask what they’re struggling with and focus your help there

While all of these practical household things are helpful, there might be some people who find comfort or solace in doing those things themselves. If that’s the case, talk with them about what their immediate needs are and what they’re having a hard time dealing with. Then focus your energies there. “What can I do to help?” may not be as effective a question as “What are you having a hard time doing right now?” They may not know what kind of help they need, but they probably know how they’re struggling.

One person might be lonely and just want some company. Another person might need a creative outlet or a mindless distraction or something physical like going for a walk or a hike. Someone else might have pets they need help caring for, a garden that need tending or the oil changed in their car. Someone might even need a person to serve as a shield or buffer between them and all the people coming to offer their condolences.

Note that many of these things are basic life maintenance stuff—those are often the things that get hard for people when they’re dealing with the emotional and logistical stuff surrounding whatever they’re going through, and they’re often the easiest things other people can do for them. A time of crisis is not a normal time, so normal etiquette, such as asking if you can or should do something rather than just letting them know you’re going to do it, doesn’t always apply.

If there’s a specific thing with specific tasks, such as planning a funeral, that might be a good opportunity to ask how you can help. But people deep in the throes of grief or struggle often need someone to the reins on basic things without being asked to. Again, there’s a good chance they feel like they’re drowning, so don’t wait for an invitation. Just grab the life preserver, put it around them and do whatever needs to be done to get them to shore.

The Cover Of Taylor Swift’s New Album Has A Connection To The Cast Of ‘Full House’ (Yes, The TV Show)

taylor swift

During the 2024 Grammys on Sunday, Taylor Swift announced that she has a new album, The Tortured Poets Department, coming out this spring. The cover of the album, her 11th, shows the “Is It Over Now?” singer lying down on a bed while wearing high-waisted briefs and a tank. Everything that Swift wears instantly sells out, so Swifties were curious where they could buy this outfit. Swift’s stylist, Joseph Cassell, provided the answer on social media.

Billboard noted that Cassell tagged two fashion brands: Saint Laurent and The Row, which was founded by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. That would be the same Mary-Kate and Ashley who starred on Full House, went to grandmothers’ house, and learned how the west was… fun?!?

Swift isn’t the only singer whose been spotted wearing the designer brand, either. Her bestie Selena Gomez has also previously been seen wearing a wool coat from The Row, and Beyoncé was spotted at one point wearing a midi leather skirt from the brand’s 2019 collection.

The $420 (!) tank top is sold out on The Row’s website, but it’s still available for the low, low price of $290 at SSense. As for the briefs, those will set you back another $220 at Saks Fifth Avenue, although small and medium sizes are already gone. Mary-Kate and Ashley should say thanks to Taylor for the business by covering one of her songs — and she can perform one of theirs in return. The Eras Tour crowd would lose their minds for “I Am the Cute One.”

Josh Brolin Is Teasing (Or Possibly Joking) That Marvel Wants To Bring Back Thanos

Thanos Josh Brolin
Marvel

Despite Thanos dying twice in Avengers: Endgame, Josh Brolin has reportedly heard talks that Marvel wants to bring back everyone’s favorite Murder Grimace.

Brolin dropped the tease while recently promoting his upcoming role in Dune: Part Two. The actor was told that thanks to Endgame and the purple Titan’s appearances in Marvel’s What If…?, no one has died more in the MCU than Thanos. That little tidbit led to Brolin maybe saying more than he should have or having a little fun.

“You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine, that they’re gonna bring him back,” Brolin told Comic Book. “And there’s the What If…? series and that’s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don’t know in the Marvel world whether they’re going to bring him back, but I didn’t know that he was the most killed-off Marvel villain … You learn something new every day.”

Again, Brolin might be joking around, but Thanos’ return isn’t out of the realm of possibility. Back in Fall 2023, a Variety expose reported that Marvel has been looking into reuniting the original Avengers cast. The studio has been in a nosedive and bringing back fan favorites like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans could help in that regard.

The MCU has been knee-deep in multiverse shenanigans, so bringing back dead characters wouldn’t be an issue thanks to the rules of reality going right out the window. That applies to purple aliens with magic gloves as much as does to Scarlett Johansson, so Brolin could actually be telling the truth or he’s just having a bit of fun. It’s honestly a toss-up.

Dune: Part Two opens in theaters on March 1.

What Does ‘Farbissiner’ Mean In ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Season 12?

'Curb Your Enthusiasm' 1201 Larry David
MAX

(WARNING: Spoilers for the most recent Curb Your Enthusiasm episode will be found below.)

Yesterday was a great day for television. Aside from it being the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, it also marked the season 12 premiere of Larry David’s beloved Curb Your Enthusiasm. It’s the shows first new season since 2021, and as revealed last month, it will also be the show’s last season. Curb Your Enthusiasm kicked off with the return “social assassin” Larry David, as The Ringer noted David’s manager Jeff once called him. Be it David’s refusal to call a woman by her birth name or his beef with a hotel’s cleaning lady, Curb Your Enthusiasm season opener leaves us asking why Larry David can’t help butwage war on the most minor issues. It also left us asking what’s a “farbissiner?”

What Does ‘Farbissiner’ Mean In Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12?

The word “farbissiner” is first heard during Larry’s first encounter with the hotel cleaning lady. Larry mistakenly dropped his glasses in the toilet in his room, and for some reason, he believed that it was the woman’s job to retrieve that glasses due to the her title and familiarity with cleaning toilets. She eventually tells Larry to “get ’em yourself,” and in frustration, Larry replies, “I never said they were my glasses. That was a hypothetical. A hypothetical means it’s possible and maybe not possible. It’s just a question. You know, you’re quite a farbissiner.”

“Farbissiner” is derived from the Yiddish word farbissen and it’s used to describe an angry and bitter person. The irony here is that Larry was angrier than the hotel lady, and to make matters worse for him, he was on the receiving end of her revenge to close the episode.

New episodes of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ are available on Max on Sundays at 10 pm ET/PT.

Mike Flanagan’s ‘The Dark Tower’ Season 1: Everything To Know So Far About The Stephen King Adaptation Series

Dark Tower Stephen King
Simon And Schuster

It’s fair to say that Stephen King‘s The Dark Tower, which includes an eight-novel box series along with a few offshoots including a novella, has been a challenge to successfully adapt. Previous efforts include a 2017 movie starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, which didn’t do so hot at the box office (or with critics). As well, a 2020 TV pilot was jettisoned by Amazon when the streamer didn’t pick the adaptation up for series.

That last detail could be of interest, considering that TV horror maestro Mike Flanagan recently concluded his fantastic run on Netflix for a TV deal with Amazon. At his former stomping grounds, his successes included the Fall of the House of Usher, Midnight Mass, and The Haunting of Hill House along with a film adaptation of Gerald’s Game (starring Carla Gugino). The latter project was, of course, based upon the Stephen King novel of the same name, and Flanagan took another swing at adapting King material with Doctor Sleep, the direct sequel to The Shining that brought back Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor) as an adult.

So, if anyone could give The Dark Tower the TV series adaptation that it deserves, it would be Flanagan, and there’s good news on that front. He’s been developing the project for years, and his efforts appear to be moving along after Flanagan finished with Netflix. Would the series eventually land at Amazon? Let’s talk it over, along with more about Flanagan’s plans.

Plot

Prior to Flanagan inking a deal with Amazon, he and Trevor Macy’s Intrepid Pictures acquired rights for the whole The Dark Tower series of books. Since then, they have been hammering out a strategy on how to adapt the fantasy/Western/sci-fi/horror epic saga about a post-apocalyptic gunslinger who is attempting to protect a tower (that is tied to multiple realities) from the Man in Black (Walter Padick/Randall Flagg, who is the chief antagonist of King’s The Stand). As Deadline noted in December 2022, Flanagan has been known to present his vision (complete with his idea for an opening shot, which is a black screen emblazoned with “The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed”) for the project while discussing his other shows.

Flanagan also told Deadline that he envisions five TV seasons and two movies to complete The Dark Tower story, and he has already written “a pilot script I’m thrilled with and a very detailed outline for the first season and a broader outline for the subsequent seasons.” He continued to unfurl his excitement:

I’ll tell you, more than half of my life, I’ve closed my eyes and been able to watch a lot of this play out, I’ve dreamed about this. That first shot which comes right off at the first incredible sentence of the first book, The Gunslinger, I’ve had that image just rattling around in my head since I was an undergrad. It’s going to have to get out of there eventually, I really need to get it out of my head.

The pilot script is one of my favorite things I’ve ever gotten to work on. It’s been surreal working on that. So we’ve been floored and grateful that Stephen King trusts us with such an undertaking, something so precious to him, and we hope to find the right partners to realize it.

Flanagan added to Deadline that Amazon is “very aware” of his ongoing The Dark Tower efforts, and “we would be fairly understanding of any institutional PTSD off of the other attempts they made at adapting it over there.” However, “if that’s something that they would be interested in, we’ll be thrilled.” So, this project could totally, maybe, happen at Amazon. Stay tuned there.

In June 2023, EW reported that Flanagan followed up on how, out of his entire collection of ongoing projects, The Dark Tower is what “I want to do the most.” Development slowed down during the strikes, “but I think it’s going to happen. I can’t say for certain, but we look good.”

To sum up: if this project fully works out, we could see five TV seasons and some feature films. Fingers crossed.

Cast

As mentioned already, Idris Elba portrayed gunslinger Roland Deschain, and Matthew McConaughey picked up the antagonistic Man in Black role for the 2017 movie. Whereas the failed 2020 series (from showrunner Glen Mazzara) cast Sam Strike as Roland and Jasper Pääkkönen as the Man in Black.

Surely, both of those casting slates shall be wiped clean by Flanagan. He hasn’t articulated that any particular actors are set in stone for the project, but Comic Book reported that frequent Flanagan collaborator Henry Thomas (Fall of the House of Usher, Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep and more) would “love to have a part in that.”

Additionally, Flanagan freaking loves to cast his usual suspects in TV roles, so we can perhaps expect to see Carla Gugino or Kate Siegel, Annabeth Gish, Rahul Kohli, Katie Parker, Samantha Sloyan, and other favorites. Hey, can we see Hamish Linklater as the Man in Black?

Release Date

No planned release date has been pinpointed as far as the public is aware. However, Flanagan seems to (from the above interview snippets) indicate that it’s hopefully only a matter of time before it happens. We also know from his back-to-back Netflix series that the dude works fast, so we’re staying positive on an update soon.

Trailer

Silly rabbit. There’s no way on earth that we could see a Dark Tower trailer when filming hasn’t begun. However, if you haven’t yet watched Doctor Sleep, here’s some encouragement.

What Time Does ‘Abbott Elementary’ Season 3, Episode 1 Come Out?

Abbott Elementary
ABC

School is back in session for the staff and students of Abbott Elementary.

Quinta Brunson’s Emmy-winning comedy series suffered a longer-than-expected hiatus thanks to the SAG AFTRA and Writer’s strikes last year. Still, its third season is prepping to premiere later this month, and with it comes plenty of changes for Brunson’s sunny overachiever Janine Teagues and her fellow teachers. With a shortened episode count and plenty of story to tell, the show is adding a handful of new characters and taking some big swings with a certain will-they-won’t-they romance.

Here’s everything we know about Abbott Elementary season three.

When Does Abbott Elementary Season 3 Premiere?

The show’s first episode drops on Wednesday, February 7th at 9.m. ET on ABC. Fans can stream it on Hulu the following day, or watch it live with an in-app upgrade. Season three is slated to have 13 episodes airing each Wednesday though the premiere is a two-parter so it will be an hour-long instead of the normal 30-minute runtime.

Who’s In Abbott Elementary Season 3?

All of the main cast are returning for the show’s third season including Tyler James Williams (Gregory Eddie), Sheryl Lee Ralph (Mrs. Howard), Janelle James (Principle Ava Coleman), Lisa Ann Walter (Melissa Schemmenti), and Chris Perfetti (Jacob Hill). Some newcomers to the school include Kimia Behpoornia (Hacks), Benjamin Norris (Never Have I Ever), and The Other Two’s Josh Segarra who plays a district administrator (and potential love interest for Janine) named Manny.

What Is Abbot Elementary Season 3 About?

The show’s season two finale ended on a bit of a cliffhanger with Janine and Gregory admitting their feelings for one another after sharing a kiss during a school assembly. Despite their obvious attraction, Janine decided to press pause on the relationship to focus on herself and her career goals. The consequences of that choice will play out in season three which kicks off with a five-month time jump that sees Janine inhabiting a new role at school and Gregory struggling to move on. The introduction of Segarra’s Manny only complicates things for the two, as does Ava’s renewed interest in actually doing her job as principal at Abbott’s.

Is There A Trailer For Season 3?

In January, ABC dropped a sneak peek of season three that teased some of the chaos to come. Ava’s fresh off a stint at Harvard and implementing some strict changes that her employees are ready to rebel against while Janine tries her hand at cursing. Watch it below:
