Donald Trump Has To Deal With Yet Another Lawsuit, This One From The Co-Founders Of His Own Social Media Company

donald trump
Getty Image

Donald Trump has another lawsuit to add to the pile. Trump Media & Technology Group co-founders Andy Litinsky and Wes Moss are claiming that the former president and his business cronies schemed to lock them out of a stake in the company, potentially losing the pair millions of dollars.

According to the Washington Post, Litinsky and Moss, who first met Trump on his NBC reality show The Apprentice, “pitched Trump on the idea of a Trump-branded tech start-up and social media platform in early 2021 after he lost the White House and was banned from Twitter, now called X.” Trump agreed to the deal and was given 90 percent of the company, while Litinsky and Moss got 8.6 percent; the rest went to attorney Bradford Cohen.

But things have gotten complicated.

The filing said that Trump was set to receive 78 million shares in the post-merger company — a stake worth $3.5 billion at today’s share price — and that [Litinsky and Moss’ investment company United Atlantic Ventures] would receive more than 7 million shares, a stake worth about $339 million. “Throughout TMTG’s corporate history,” the motion states, “UAV’s 8.6 percent ownership interest has been recognized and honored.” But UAV’s attorneys allege in the motion that Trump has recently attempted to “drastically dilute” the partnership’s stake as part of what they called an “11th hour, pre-merger corporate maneuvering” tactic designed to increase the amount of authorized stock, from 120 million shares to 1 billion shares.

Speaking for his clients, Litinsky and Moss’ lawyer told the Post, “They feel like: We made Truth Social for you. You get 90 percent. But some people just aren’t happy with 90 percent.” It’s almost as if going into business with Donald Trump isn’t a great idea. Weird!

Firefly Music Festival Is Sadly Not Coming Back In 2024, And It’s Not Clear When The Beloved Fest Will Return

firefly music festival

It is looking like another year of bad news for music lovers who were looking to attend the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Delaware in 2024. Given that the festival didn’t take place last year either, as they were reportedly taking a break, there were questions about if it would ever return. Today (February 29), Firefly released a statement about what people can expect for now.

“Firefly Music Festival will not return in 2024,” they wrote. “We look forward to powering Firefly’s lights back on someday when the timing is right, but until then, The Woodlands will continue to host new music events for years to come. Keep on dancing, fam.”

Things seemed to have changed drastically since Firefly’s previous post, which was made in October 2022 and was an exciting confirmation that fans would get to see them in 2024. Because of this, fans on social media are upset and mourning the loss of a festival that they went to a bunch and loved.

Firefly’s traditional hosting spot at Dover’s The Woodlands will be the home to other festivals this year. Phish has appeared to be the ones taking things over, at least for 2024. The jam band announced that they’ll be hosting their new Mondegreen festival there.

For The Love Of Afrobeats And Dancehall: Celebrating Their Success Without Blurring The Lines

Burna Boy Davido Popcaan
YouTube

Let’s set the scene. You’re out with friends, or maybe by yourself, at a local nightclub or day party, and the DJ on set gives a shoutout to the “Carribeans” in the crowd. They say something like, “One time for my Carribeans” or “Where my Carribeans at?” and those in the audience who identify as such make some noise with the expectation that a song from their region will be played next. Instead, an afrobeats record from the likes of Wizkid, Davido, or Burna Boy blares from the speakers. Carribeans and Africans in the audience are left equally confused by the miscategorization and the DJ does a quick two- or three-song rotation before getting back to their regularly scheduled programming.

As ludicrous as it sounds, this scenario happens more often than you’d think. Look no further than comments in this Lipstick Alley forum from 2022 for proof. While regions heavily populated with Africans or Carribeans like southern New England, New York City, Philadelphia, or Houston probably haven’t had this experience to the extent of other areas, it is an issue. It’s just one example of the miscategorization of these genres that we’ve seen happen time and time again.

By the 2010s, Afrobeats and dancehall were undeniably popular in the global mainstream. Viral dances like those attached to Fuse ODG’s “Azonto” and Iyana’s “Kukere,” as well as success from Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, P-Sqaure, D’banj, and others played a big role in afrobeats’ rising popularity. In contrast, the success of Sean Paul, Popcaan, Vybz Kartel, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, and others helped boost the appeal of dancehall. Though dancehall stands alone as its own unique sound, afrobeats is more of a culmination of various genres that include any mixture of house, hip-hop, dancehall, highlife, R&B, afrobeat (yes, without the s), and more.

Afrobeat is different from afrobeats as it pulls from traditional Nigerian music with additional influences from funk, jazz, and soul, and sees its origins go back to the 1960s, while the origin of dancehall is between the 1960s and 1970s. With afrobeats and afrobeat often getting confused and afrobeats containing numerous influences — including dancehall — it’s not all that surprising that the genres are mixed up, leading to DJs shouting out “Carribeans” and playing afrobeats. However, a history mix-up would be a generous explanation for all of this.

With afrobeats and dancehall making their presence felt in the mainstream world by the mid-2010s, artists in the respective genres continued a tradition of collaboration dating back to their origins. Some of the records we’ve received over the years include Kranium & Wizkid’s “Can’t Believe It,” Popcaan and Davido’s “Risky” and “Dun Rich,” Burna Boy’s “Toni-Ann Singh” with Popcaan, Byron Messia’s “Talibans II” with Burna Boy, Teejay’s “Drift (Remix)” with Davido, Vybz Kartel & Burna Boy’s “Personally (Remix),” and Wizkid’s “Slip N Slide” with Shenseea and Skillibeng. In these cases, the blend between afrobeats and dancehall can be effortless with each artist performing just as well in the other’s genre as they do their own. For those without knowledge of the artists and sounds within afrobeats and dancehall, this is where the distinction between the genres gets lost, and suddenly, you’re shouting out the Carribeans in the crowd, only to play a set full of afrobeats staples.

While some ignorance is understandable, fans’ and DJs’ reluctance to correct said ignorance is not. Both afrobeats and dancehall are becoming more and more globally popular and respected by the month. For example, a fall 2023 report from Spotify noted that afrobeats tallied more than 15 billion streams on the platform. In just the last few years, both genres have provided records that served as anthems for the year’s hottest months, including Burna Boy’s “Last Last,” Byron Messia’s “Talibans,” and Wizkid’s “Essence.”

These artists are Grammy nominees and winners. Artists in both genres collaborate with some of the biggest names in the industry. The genres’ successes aren’t a fluke, but the result of years of work from their pioneers and contemporary hitmakers to push the beautiful sounds of their culture to the masses. Afrobeats and dancehall deserve the respect and recognition to stand and be known on their own terms.

Alan Ritchson Has A List Of Roles That Got Away After He Assumed, ‘Nobody Really Cares About The Acting’

Reacher Alan Ritchson
Getty Image

Reacher is the role that Alan Ritchson was meant to embody. There’s no doubt about that, but it’s wild to consider that the Fast X actor had been kicking around in Hollywood for over a decade before landing what would ultimately be his household-name-making role. Perhaps he’s even so fitting as Jack Reacher — managing to even infuse a layer or two within a brick sh*thouse — because Ritchson knows what it’s like to fail and forget that “details matter.” For that reason and more, he is making it known that he has blown auditions in the past.

In his recent Men’s Health interview, Ritchson describes how his life before apprehending every goon and irritating stunt coordinators included a series of small gigs punctuated by failed bids for larger roles. These included losing out on Thor, for which “the casting cabal told his team the role had been his to lose but he hadn’t shown that he had “the craft’” because he assumed, “They’ll throw me the part if I look like the guy; nobody really cares about acting.” Additionally, he was deemed “too old” to portray Finnick in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, but that’s neither of these stories feel as brutal as that time when he went and bought an expensive car after deciding that he nailed an audition and then nope:

[H]e auditioned for the lead on the show Titans. “I was so confident. I was like, ‘This is the best damn audition I’ve ever had in my life. There’s no way they can do this show without me,’” he says with mock bluster. He was so sure he’d gotten the gig that he bought a Tesla. The role went to Brenton Thwaites instead. Ritchson was told he was too old again.

Well, everything did eventually work out for the best. Reacher keeps soaring higher in streaming popularity, and viewers eat that show up like the yummiest vending machine junk food that ever existed. If Ritchson had been cast in Titans, there likely would have been too much overlap for him to take on the Big Man for Amazon. Speaking of which, the third season is filming now, and we await further word for a release window.

The Best Vinyl Releases Of February 2024

vinyl
Uproxx

Anybody who thought the vinyl resurgence was just a fad was mistaken: The industry has experienced a legitimate revival. As a result, music fans are interested in physical media in ways they may not have if the decades-old medium hasn’t made a comeback. That doesn’t mean everybody is listening to just their parents’ old music, though. That’s part of it, sure, thanks to rereleases that present classic albums in new ways. A vital part of the renewed vinyl wave, though, is new projects being released as records, of which there are plenty.

Whatever you might be into, each month brings a new slew of vinyl releases that has something for everybody. Some stand out above the rest, naturally, so check out some of our favorite vinyl releases of February below.

Paul McCartney & Wings — Band On The Run (50th Anniversary Edition)

Band On The Run vinyl
UMe

The end of The Beatles was a sad moment for music, but the silver lining was that it led to Paul McCartney forming Wings, a band that enjoyed a beloved run of its own. The group’s defining third album, 1973’s Band On The Run, turned 50 recently, so now we have a new vinyl reissue of the album. The 2LP edition includes a treat for fans: an “Underdubbed” Mixes Edition of the album, of which McCartney himself explains, “This is Band On The Run in a way you’ve never heard before. When you are making a song and putting on additional parts, like an extra guitar, that’s an overdub. Well, this version of the album is the opposite, underdubbed.”

Amy Winehouse — Frank (Reissue)

Amy Winhouse Frank vinyl
UMe

We lost Amy Winehouse far too soon, but the pair of albums she left behind is special. It all started with Frank in 2003 and the album turned 20 years old recently. To celebrate, we now have the coolest-looking version of the album, a lovely new picture disc vinyl pressing.

The Who — Quadrophenia (Reissue) and The Who By Numbers (Reissue)

Who Quadrophenia
UMe

The Who were masters when it came to making music that rewards close listening. Now, the sonic details of two of the group’s finest albums, Quadrophenia and The Who By Numbers, can be enjoyed better than ever with these new vinyl reissues, which got a half-speed mastering for the occasion.

Get Quadrophenia here. Get The Who By Numbers here.

Issac Hayes — Hot Buttered Soul (Reissue)

isaac hayes vinyl
Craft Recordings

As part of their Small Batch vinyl series, Craft Recordings has come through with an audiophile-friendly version of an Isaac Hayes classic, which features lacquers cut from the original tapes. Ultimately, Craft proclaims this release to be “as close as the listener can get to the original recording.” As the name of the reissue series suggests, this isn’t one to take your time with, as it’s limited to only 3,000 copies. The overall packaging of the reissue is also stunning.

Idles — Tangk

Idles Tangk vinyl
Partisan

Uproxx’s Grant Sharples wrote of the latest album from UK rockers Idles, “The Bristol post-punk band Idles used to operate in one mode: loud, abrasive, and often furious. Their sheer volume was their main signifier, but now they’ve partially softened up, adding more subtlety to their anthemic tunes. On Tangk, their fifth record, the intensity remains, but rather than going in a purely punk direction, they make their noisy guitars and unrelenting drums a bit more rhythmic.”

If that sounds good to you, the band is selling the LP in a number of neat-colored vinyl editions.

Get it here.

John Coltrane — A Love Supreme (VMP Edition)

Coltrane Love Supreme vinyl
Vinyl Me, Please

Reissue kings Vinyl Me, Please have an impressive new edition of the John Coltrane classic A Love Supreme. It’s one for completionists: The 8LP box set features the album itself, as well as “every live and alternate take.” If you wanted the ultimate experience of one of jazz’s most iconic recordings, this is it.

Grandaddy — Blu Wav

Dangerbird Records

After some time away, Grandaddy has been back at it over the past few years. February yielded the indie favorites’ sixth album, Blu Wav, and the blue marble vinyl pressing is a gorgeous way to enjoy it.

MGMT — Loss Of Life

MGMT Loss Of Life vinyl
Mom + Pop

Similarly, MGMT also pressed their latest LP on some vibrant vinyl colors, like the tangerine version seen above. In her review of the project, Uproxx’s Carolyn Droke wrote, “As a whole, Loss Of Life shows MGMT have gone full circle and come back to their foundations as an indie band, both sonically by shedding the dark melodies of 2018’s Little Dark Age in favor of a more buoyant sound, and literally by signing to an independent record label.”

Get it here.

Usher — Coming Home

Usher Coming Home vinyl
gamma

Usher had a bigger February than anybody with his Super Bowl Halftime Show and his new album, Coming Home. The performance was the headline news, but if you’re not sleeping on the new LP, Usher has it available on slick clear vinyl.

Helado Negro — Phasor

Helado Negro Phasor
4AD

Helado Negro has been consistently rock-solid for over a decade now, busting out a new album usually at least every couple years since 2009. His eighth LP, Phasor, arrived earlier this month, and you have options in terms of vinyl aesthetics. There’s the “coke bottle translucent green” pressing pictured above, or a standard black if you’re more of a tried-and-true traditionalist.

Adam Sandler Admits He Is ‘Jumpy’ Around Taylor Swift: ‘I Don’t Want To Blow It’

Adam Sandler has worked with numerous A-list stars over the years, like Jennifer Aniston in Murder Mystery or Paul Blart in Paul Blart: Mall Cop but nobody has caught him off guard quite as much as Taylor Swift. To be fair, she is worth far more than our minds can even comprehend. So being in that presence has got to trigger something in the brain.

Sandler joined Conan O’Brien for an episode of his podcast Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend when he was asked who leaves him star-struck. “You know what — Taylor Swift,” he said, though it isn’t because of her world-famous songwriting or her stance on demons. It’s because he is a dad who doesn’t want to embarrass his kids. “Because what she means to my kids, I get it a little f–kin’ jumpy. Just ’cause I don’t wanna blow it for my kids. So I’m a little like ‘Taylor, Taylor,’ like I talk a little too loud or something. I don’t stay as cool as I can,” he admitted while wearing matching a powder blue tracksuit and Hawaiian t-shirt. Why does he think he’s not cool?

Sandler attended both Swift’s concert and film premiere last year, and he proudly wears the covered blue Eras Tour crew neck, the mark of a true fan. But he admitted that he’s fascinated with her stardom.

“People talk about The Beatles of it all and her. I mean, man, so many smash hits,” he said, probably referring to “Cruel Summer” but we’ll never know. He added, “There’s not a word my kids don’t know.” Perhaps one day Sandler and Swift will unite for a fun cover.

Elizabeth Hurley Gets Steamy With Another Woman In The Trailer For A Movie Directed By Her Son

Since her five-year run where she starred in two comedies I have seen approximately 800 times each, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and Bedazzled actress Elizabeth Hurley hasn’t appeared in a ton of movies. Her filmography of late is a lot of holiday stuff, including Father Christmas Is Back and Christmas in Paradise where she plays a character named… Joanna Christmas. You can’t see it, but I’m giving that name a standing ovation.

Is it time for an Elizabeth Hurley renaissance, like the one her Bedazzled co-star Brendan Fraser got? I’m here for it, although she probably isn’t winning an Oscar for Strictly Confidential, a fun-looking campy mystery directed by her son, Damian. You can watch the trailer for the “sensual thriller with a devilish twist” above, including a scene where Hurley makes out with another woman. That must’ve been a very normal day on set for the Hurleys.

Here’s more:

Mia is haunted by the suicide of her best friend, Rebecca. Reluctantly, she accepts an invitation from Rebecca’s family to their home in the Caribbean, where her college friends are assembling to commemorate Rebecca on the anniversary of her death. Once on the island, Mia is plagued by suspicions that there’s more to Rebecca’s death than meets the eye; gradually, she learns that both Rebecca’s family and each of the guests are harboring a deadly secret, all with direct ties to Rebecca. Mia delves into Rebecca’s past, desperate to uncover what really happened that fateful day last summer. As more deceptions come to light, Mia finds herself drawn into a world of sex, duplicity and betrayal. Despite the dangers that lurk at every corner, Mia is relentless, determined to uncover the truth… but at what cost?

Strictly Confidential is in theaters and on digital on April 5.
