The main takeaway from this year’s Super Bowl wasn’t that the Usher is good, or that overtime is confusing, or even that Spongebob and Patrick should commentate every year (though they should). The real lesson we all learned is that you can’t just watch the Super Bowl in anticipation of your favorite movie trailer anymore. You have to watch a trailer for the real trailer that drops online simultaneously. It’s a whole thing! Gone are the days of movie studios buying a full 2-minute slot for a new trailer. They know you’re just looking at your phone the whole time anyway so you might as well use it.
The biggest trailer drop from this year’s broadcast was for Deadpool & Wolverine, even though you had to be redirected to the internet to watch the full thing. It seems like a bit of an annoying task to whip out your computer/phone/tablet while watching the game, but over 300 million people did it, so it worked.
According to Deadline, the trailer for the fourth Deadpool installment was seen by 365 million in the 24 hours since it first aired during the Super Bowl, making it the most-viewed trailer of all time. The record used to belong to Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home which clocked in at 255 million on its first day, but Spider-Man didn’t have the power of sports behind him.
Deadpool & Wolverine is the very highly-anticipated and long-awaited installment in the franchise for fans of no-nonsense superheroes. Ryan Reynolds returns as Deadpool while Hugh Jackman was convinced to return as Wolverine. Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni and Matthew Macfadyen also star. You can watch the trailer below because it would be RUDE to direct you elsewhere!
As a parent of three Gen Zers ages 15, 19 and 23, I spent many years fending off children begging, pleading and cajoling for screens and screen time of one sort or another. From around ages 9 to 14 with each child, I fielded question after question and complaint after complaint about them not having a phone and/or the limits my husband and I placed on their screen usage. It was exhausting to stick to our guns on that front (especially with our one child who would make an excellent lawyer). But we held the line, hoping and praying that someday they all would thank us for it.
Sure enough, each one of them has thanked us for it. Phew.
In fact, they’ve all started talking about how their own kids won’t have any screens at all until they really need to, which is more restriction than we placed on them even.
“Good for you!” I tell my them. “And good luck.” Their convictions are admirable, but little do they know that it’s not as easy as it looks.
As the first full generation to be raised in the internet-enabled, screen-saturated world, Gen Z (approximately ages 11 to 26) has grown up in uncharted waters. Pretty much every adult they’ve ever known has carried and used a smartphone. Their educations have included hand-held screens from their earliest years, as the “edutainment” industry has exploded. Today’s older kids and young adults became tech-savvy very young, they’ve been marketed to with various addictive apps their entire childhoods and have felt the pressures of social media throughout their formative years.
And Gen Z’s parents have had to navigate those uncharted waters, raising kids in an online world we didn’t have ourselves as children and struggling mightily to find a balance for them amid the digital chaos,. In an era where parents often need to work and childcare is prohibitively expensive, devices have become the easiest temporary babysitter, and a moderate amount of screen time (whatever “moderate” means) feels practically inevitable. Even the experts no longer have set screen time limit recommendations, but rather encourage parents to be conscious and engaged with what their children are using screens for. (In my former teacher opinion, there’s a significant difference between setting up a child with an interactive app that teaches kids math or reading or geography and leaving a child with unbridled access to the internet.)
We also live in a world where people in general use our devices for almost everything and where sites like YouTube can be valuable tools. It’s a reality that kids will not just get their own devices eventually, but will actually need to. But when, which one, how much, how often, what to limit and allow at what ages can be overwhelming questions for parents to navigate. Very few of us have managed to strike a balance that feels right. Sometimes I’ve worried we were being too strict and other times I worried we were too lenient. With each kid, especially when we were thrown into pandemic isolation, determining healthy screen time became more complicated.
But now that a good chunk of Gen Z are officially adults and starting to think about how they want to parent their own kids, they’re surprisingly Luddite-like. After years and years of wanting screen time, getting screen time, and seeing how screen time can be filled with pitfalls, and also after observing Gen Alpha’s early screen addictions, they don’t want the same for their kids.
Interestingly, some Gen Zers are even trying to limit their own screen time by switching to 90s-style flip phones—or “dumb phones” as they now say.
Some are also pleading with their fellow Gen Zers to vow not to raise “iPad kids” who can’t behave without having a screen shoved into their hands. Gabe Escobar garnered 25 million views with his “iPad kids” rant, with countless Gen Zers in the comments agreeing with him.
seriously pls we cant let it happen #genz #genalpha #ipadkid
And these Gen Zers aren’t just kneejerk-reflex saying they don’t want their kids to have screens at all. They understand that technology is a tool we all need and kids need to have access to learn how to use it. But they’re watching the struggles of Gen Alpha and seeing how giving kids the excessive amount of screen time that they themselves probably begged their parents for at one point actually impacts them. It’s not that they don’t want their kids on screens at all, but it appears Gen Z is preparing for their parenting approach with foresight and wisdom, which is great to see.
@gabesco I am fully on board with what this creator is saying although kids having ipads is a bit inevitable at this point the real issue is regulation and parenting styles #genz #genalpha #millennial #parenting #ipadkid #greenscreenvideo #greenscreen
I just hope they’re prepared for how exhausting it is to fight that battle with their kids when the time comes. But at the very least, they can speak from experience when they tell their kids that they’ll thank them someday for the limits.
Valentine’s Day is right coming up soon and while many people are out trying to buy last minute gifts, chocolate and flowers, some mom’s are hoping for a different kind of gift. Of course it’s always the thought that counts when it comes to gift giving, but Samantha Sophia is offering up an idea that is practical. The other moms in the comments seem to be agreeing with her sentiments, so take out a pen and paper.
The mom explains that she has nothing against a good dinner for the big day but just doesn’t want to deal with the crowds. Plus booking a good restaurant for Valentine’s Day is nearly impossible.
“I do believe in celebrating love every chance you get. It is currently a week before our Valentine’s Day and what did we have done,” the mom says.
“We had the house deep cleaned because if he wants romantic Sam–romantic Sam needs a clean house. Nothing says romance to me more than a clean house.”
She goes on to explain that now is the time to “listen to your partner and acquire, do, buy the things that they want. That they need. That they like.” Samantha then lists examples of things she prefers over others like a book store over a crowded restaurant or flowers over chocolates. Women are praising her public service announcement.
“Whew! a deep cleaned house that I didn’t have to clean needs to be a love language,” one woman says.
“All of this! 100% I’ll take a deep cleaned house over a crowded restaurant and chocolates any day lol,” another person confesses.
“Love letters are great! Anyone can buy a gift and the effort is a shopping trip or a click online. But a love letter? They gotta think about what they love about you and why and organize thoughts and edit, and find good paper and bonus I if it’s handwritten,” someone else writes.
See, according to the comments on that relatable PSA, practical gifts that show you know your partner will win every time. Check out the entire video below:
Indie music has grown to include so much. It’s not just music that is released on independent labels, but speaks to an aesthetic that deviates from the norm and follows its own weirdo heart. It can come in the form of rock music, pop, or folk. In a sense, it says as much about the people that are drawn to it as it does about the people that make it.

Brittany Howard – What Now
The Alabama Shakes front-woman is back with her sophomore solo record, and it’s an utter marvel. Like 2019’s Jaime before it, Howard’s latest is a thrilling blend of funk, indie rock, blues, and even house, all of which display the Nashville-based songwriter’s penchant for versatility. Now, she has the same amount of solo albums as her full band, so it’s only natural to wonder what the state of the Shakes currently is. But Howard’s solo work is so riveting that you can’t be disappointed. What Now is proof that she’s following the creative spark wherever it may lead her.
Helado Negro – Phasor
Listening to Roberto Carlos Lange’s strain of indie rock is like stumbling upon a gorgeous painting at a museum. You want to stop for a moment and take all of it in: the brush strokes, the textures, the colors. Phasor, Lange’s latest as Helado Negro, recreates that sense of artistic, awestruck wonder. On songs like “Colores Del Mar,” “Es Una Fantasia,” and “Best For You And Me,” Helado Negro crafts a world of his own.
Pouty – Forgot About Me
Rachel Gagliardi used to write one song a day. Alongside Japanese Breakfast’s Michelle Zauner, Gagliardi would keep her creativity consistent by penning a new tune every 24 hours, and that officially marks the beginning of Pouty. Following up a series of EPs dating back to 2016, Pouty’s debut album, Forgot About Me, delivers on the hooky, snotty breed of power-pop and tender-punk associated with groups like Charly Bliss and Illuminati Hotties. As songs like the ’90s alt-rock-infused “Denial Is A Heavy Drug” and the fuzzy opener “Salty” demonstrate, Galigardi’s song-a-day practice paid off. It would be difficult to forget about Pouty anytime soon.
Rosali – “On Tonight”
Next month, singer-songwriter Rosali will release Bite Down, her first album for Merge Records. To bide the time, she has shared another excellent single, the driving yet gentle “On Tonight.” Rosali’s bucolic musings draw inspiration from the classic tale of Adam and Eve, as she sings from Eve’s perspective. This time, though, Eve seduces the serpent, representing a “lust for life,” as Rosali herself describes in a press release. It slowly picks up steam as it goes, adding subtle embellishments and layers along the way, like brushed snare drums and arpeggiated guitars. It’s akin to watching flowers bloom in real time.
Amen Dunes – “Purple Land”
It has been six years since Freedom, the last record from Damon McMahon’s project Amen Dunes. That long waiting period has come to an end; Death Jokes, the forthcoming album from Amen Dunes, is out this May. Newly signed to indie kingpin Sub Pop, McMahon’s latest single, “Purple Land,” is a slow build with a wonderful payoff. It opens with a smattering of delay-soaked synths and his spectral voice. In the second half, it transforms into a laid-back new-wave jam with a punchy drum beat and auxiliary percussion. Throughout it all, though, McMahon weighs it down with his unmistakable voice. “I’ll be holding you every day / But I can’t make it go away for you, dear,” he sings near the song’s final moments, speaking to the comforts our loved ones bring even in times of pure anguish.
The Decemberists – “Burial Ground”
It’s 2024, and The Decemberists have released a new single featuring vocals from The Shins’ James Mercer, and the cover art uses the Band Of Horses font. An early-aughts’ twee resurgence is likely imminent if this is anything to go by. Fortunately, “Burial Ground” is a solid new track from the Portland, Oregon, quintet. Frontman Colin Meloy’s warm vocals mix wonderfully with Mercer’s melodic timbre, and the interspersed horn riffs add a tuneful touch.
Beth Gibbons – “Floating On A Moment”
Portishead was one of the groups at the vanguard of trip-hop, a uniquely British amalgamation of genres like hip-hop, electronic, and dub popularized in the ‘90s. Beth Gibbons’ dulcet voice lent a dreamlike quality to records like 1994’s Dummy and 1997’s Portishead. Until now, she has never made a solo record. Lives Outgrown, out this May, has been in the works for a whole decade, and its lead single showcases an intriguing new direction for the influential songwriter. “Floating On A Moment” is littered with baroque harpsichord, ambling basslines, and otherworldly backing vocals, sauntering along until you notice it evaporate like a ghost in the night. “All we have is here and now,” Gibbons sings in the denouement, signifying the importance of living before we disappear like ghosts ourselves.
I. Jordan – “Real Hot N Naughty”
I. Jordan broke through in 2020 when dancing felt like a bygone relic of better days. Their music, especially their For You EP, is so profoundly euphoric and groovy that it transports you straight to the club. The English producer and DJ has released EPs and one-off singles in the years since, but May 10 marks their full-length debut, the semi-self-titled I Am Jordan. “Real Hot N Naughty,” featuring their friend and actor Felix Mufti, is another excellent addition to an already swelling catalog of catchy house cuts. Mufti’s nonchalant, unbothered talk-cadences fit naturally into the sonic scenery that defines much of Jordan’s work: trance synths, persistent drum machines, and a joyous disregard for others’ judgments.
Restorations – “Cured”
When Jon Loudon’s vocals enter on “Cured,” they ring with the verve of a Bruce Springsteen anthem. “God only answers to say no,” he shout-sings, playing like the cynic’s version of the Boss’ songs of unwavering optimism. The Philly post-hardcore-meets-heartland-rock band doesn’t sound like a group of apathetic nihilists, though. As the guitars and drums come crashing in, they sound uplifting, casting Loudon’s fit of despair into oblivion itself. On “Cured,” the lead single for their forthcoming self-titled record, Restorations find joy in the chaos and catharsis in the unknown.
Faye Webster – “Feeling Good Today”
Ice Cube would argue that the joy of a good day should never be taken for granted. So would Faye Webster, as the Atlanta songwriter makes clear on her latest single, the brief and endearing “Feeling Good Today.” It marks Webster’s first vocoder-heavy track, and her vocals are robotic yet no less delighted: “I might open my doors / I got an exterminator / So it doesn’t matter if bugs come in.”
For the past few years, Warner Sports has given fans two options for watching the NBA All-Star Game, as TNT has had the traditional broadcast while TBS has offered a version with the Inside The NBA crew calling the game.
This year, rather than having Ernie, Kenny, Shaq, and Chuck on a broadcast with Draymond Green roaming the sidelines, truTV will pair Barkley and Green on a broadcast for Sunday’s game, with Adam Lefkoe hosting and Jamal Crawford handling sideline duties. Barkley and Green have traditionally gone back-and-forth on the All-Star broadcast with Green on the sideline and Barkley at the desk, but this year they’ll get to spar face-to-face on truTV.
Chuck delights in riling up Green, prodding him in the past by comparing him to Rudy Gobert and saying the Warriors are cooked, and this year he’s going to have four quarters at. desk with Draymond to try and make him mad. As TNT Sports’ VP Craig Barry noted to The Athletic’s Richard Deitsch, they couldn’t pass up a chance to put the two together for a broadcast this year.
“Over the last couple of years when Draymond has come to the studio or with interactions at All-Star Games, it was really evident the chemistry between him and Charles,” Barry said. “There was a lot of dialog and fun and provocative debate. It’s something that we think fans potentially want to see more of so we thought this was an opportunity to sit them down next to each other and essentially watch the game together. We thought what could we put together that would be an interesting conversation —and all things led to Draymond and Charles.”
Having Lefkoe, not Ernie Johnson, as the host figures to ensure things go off the rails because, with all due respect, there is no way Lefkoe is going to be able to rein in Chuck the way Ernie knows how. For this particular scenario, that’s probably for the best as the entire point of this broadcast on truTV is for Barkley and Green to go back-and-forth. Jamal Crawford serving as liaison between the booth and the players should be fun too, as he’s a beloved figure in the game and should get some good stuff out of the players on the bench.
A lot is riding on this year’s Oscars. 2023 was a significant year for movies, thanks to those big two blockbusters (The Eras Tour and Renaissance: A Film By Beyonce, of course) so the award ceremony will be a big night no matter who wins. Host Jimmy Kimmel is returning for the gig, and he called upon Weird Barbie to help him prepare for the highly-anticipated awards show because that’s what you do when you are going through a cellulite crisis.
Kimmel appeared in a new promo for the award show, which follows him and Weird Barbie (Kate McKinnon) as they try to make it back to Hollywood for the big night. In order to do that, the two must go through a series of movie-themed lands like Anatomy of a Fall Falls and Los Alamos, NM.
Finally, they are joined by America Ferrera, who gives Kimmel a hosting pep talk that mimicked her Barbie monologue. “It’s literally impossible to host the Oscars. You have to be extraordinary, but somehow you’re always doing it wrong. You have to make fun of people, but you can’t make too much fun of people. You have to give everybody enough time, but you can’t go long. And you are the center of attention, but no one cares you’re there. You can never show off, never fail, never show fear… no one says thank but everyone has something critical to say online. If it goes well, nobody says anything. If it doesn’t, it’s all your fault.” Kimmel, like a lot of Barbie viewers, misunderstood, responding: “What you’re saying is, hosting the Oscars is even harder than being a woman!”
It wouldn’t be a proper Oscars tribute without Ryan Gosling, who shows up as Ken (donning a Kenough hoodie) with a fresh order of In-N-Out. Kimmel tells Gosling he can only have In-N-Out after he wins an award. His reply, “Well that’s not going to happen. Good thing Greta has got [best] director in the bag!” Unfortunately, that opens up a whole new can of worms, as Gerwig isn’t even nominated. The group then lets out a series of disorienting screams. It’s fun for the whole family.
Check out the full preview above. The Oscars air on Sunday, March 10th at 7 pm. Hopefully, we will see Gosling perform his nominated song before he gets his In-N-Out.
Do you want to see Millie Bobby Brown take down a dragon with a badass sword? Sure, we all do. Netflix is about to give us just that in the fantasy epic Damsel.
The streaming giant just released a new trailer, and it’s the best look yet at the film that adds a dark twist to a seemingly fairy tale story. We knew the film involved Brown’s Elodie meeting her true love only to learn she was tricked into fighting a dragon, but it’s an entirely different thing to see it in action.
Elodie clearly goes through some things in the trailer, starting with her “beloved” literally tossing her into a pit at the behest of his mother played by Robin Wright. From there, Elodie soon learns the terrifying foe that she’s up against. However, this princess isn’t one to sit around wait to be rescued. Elodie goes to work as Brown unleashes her action chops in a fiery showdown that’s more Alien than Snow White.
Here’s the official synopsis:
A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive.

If you’re looking for last-minute Valentine’s Day plans and the Cheesecake Factory at the mall isn’t taking reservations, you could do a lot worse than watch Anyone But You.
The romantic-comedy starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell is still in theaters and still very charming. It’s also still making money. Anyone But You earned an additional $2.6 million over the weekend, bringing its domestic sum to $80 million. It’s earned another $90 million internationally, for a total of $170 million worldwide. Not bad for a movie with a $25 million budget. It’s almost as if people enjoy mid-budget rom-coms starring hot people, hmm.
Sweeney was asked about the success of Anyone But You at the premiere of Madame Web, which is getting savaged by critics (and shaded by one of the film’s stars). “I just want to say thank everybody for loving it as much as we enjoyed making it. People want to have something that brings everyone together, and they can laugh and they can cry and they can sing and dance and just have that community shared feeling of enjoyment,” she said during a red carpet interview with Variety. “It’s been overwhelmingly incredible.”
If the big-budget superhero movie makes less money than Anyone But You (Morbius only got to $167.5 million, and it’s hard to imagine Madame Web doing much better), nature will finally start healing.
