Pearl Jam Announces Their New Album ‘Dark Matter’ With The Band’s Kick-Ass Title Track

If you were eagerly awaiting Pearl Jam’s return, your patience has finally paid off. The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductees are back with a vengeance. Today (February 13), the legendary rock band dropped their first new and original single since 2020. Before you ask, no, their 2023 live album, Give Way, does not count.

“Dark Matter,” which was produced by Andrew Watt, is the initial taste of their forthcoming album by the same name. Given the forthcoming body of work marks, Pearl Jam’s 12th studio album, they were sure to pack a punch. As most epic rock songs do, “Dark Matter” starts with a solid drum solo (played by Matt Cameron), but when you think you know where the track is going, the bass (played by Jeff Ament) kicks in to add some flair to the sonic story.

“Take the breaths from my chest / Take the pulse and I’m… / We’re losing time, dark matter / Denounce the demagogues / King diamond to discard / Deploy the dialogue / Your word against the law,” sings frontman Eddie Vedder.

Over the years, Pearl Jam has dug deep into their discography, celebrating many note-worthy anniversaries (Yield and Vs.). Based on their new single, fans will do the same for the Dark Matter album long after Pearl Jam is gone.

Bryson Tiller Returns With The Detroit-Influenced ‘Whatever She Wants’ From His Mixtape ‘Slum Tiller’

Well over a year since his last single release (2022’s “Outside“), Bryson Tiller has returned with not only a new song but also the promise of more new music to come. His new song, “Whatever She Wants,” is an upbeat, spend-it anthem that finds the Louisville native detailing all the things he’ll do for a potential paramour. The song comes from a mixtape he quietly released several months ago called Slum Tiller, which is primarily inspired by Detroit music scenes like techno and the music of J Dilla, a founding member of Slum Village. Check it out below:

“This direction of this song and video was inspired by late nights at strip clubs in Miami,” Tiller told Complex. ” was never a fan of strip clubs but after getting to know a few dancers I really wanted to create something that they could either get ready to, or dance to. This song is actually the complete opposite of the music you will find on my next album. It’s from my new mixtape series: Slum Tiller, where Detroit music is the primary inspiration.” You can watch a preview of the video below:

Tiller made his return to the spotlight in hilariously cheeky fashion, reactivating his Twitter account before realizing that the platform has undergone a (dumb) name change and proudly vowing to hold off updating it on his phone as long as possible. He also spent some time engaging with fans in an endearing, nostalgic way — you know, like how it used to be, before right-wing troll accounts could pay eight bucks to make sure you absolutely HAD to look at their idiotic, hateful spew before anything else. Check out some choice selects below:

All The Best New Pop Music From This Week

This week saw the release of a ton of great new pop music. Lots of iconic performers like Beyoncé, Maggie Rogers, Kacey Musgraves, and more treated fans to the lead singles from albums that we’ll be keeping on rotation this spring. Plus, Noah Kahan did a special remix with Brandi Carlile.

Check out the rest of Uproxx’s Best New Pop Music roundup below.

Beyoncé — “Texas Hold ‘Em”

Beyoncé used the Super Bowl to drop not one but two surprise songs from an upcoming country-themed album, shocking the entire internet. “Texas Hold ‘Em” is perfect for square dancing, as she turns on the yeehaw charm while reminding fans to get to the club. This is for those who loved “Daddy Lessons” from Lemonade, and extra proof that the Texas queen can represent her roots.

Maggie Rogers — “Don’t Forget Me”

Maggie Rogers has a new album arriving this April, and her first single from it, “Don’t Forget Me,” is a vulnerable look about wishing her love life matched her friends. Between one getting married and another just seeming happy, all Rogers wants is someone to remember her after a breakup.

Kacey Musgraves — “Deeper Well”

Kacey Musgraves kickstarted her new album with the title track. “Deeper Well” serves as a taste of what fans can expect in terms of themes, as it finds Musgraves going back to her roots after a Saturn Return and putting herself first when it comes to love.

Zara Larsson — “Venus”

The title track of her newly-released album, Zara Larsson’s “Venus” is themed to the planet of love. “Oh, Venus, like a supernova / I can’t stop this overwhelming feeling / Got me fallin’ in love,” she dedicates to someone who turned her “upside down” in the best way.

Noah Kahan — “You’re Gonna Go Far” (feat. Brandi Carlile)

As the last of Noah Kahan’s Stick Season (Forever) deluxe album, he remixed “You’re Gonna Go Far” with Brandi Carlile. Keeping the original lyrics that emotionally detail someone leaving home, Carlile tackles the third verse. She also adds some sweet harmonies throughout.

Girl In Red — “Too Much”

“All I ever wanted was your love / I toned myself down for you,” Girl In Red points out on “Too Much.” Throughout the track, she remembers exactly how an old relationship made her feel unloved and unwanted. However, she’s not letting it slide, as she delivers some powerful jabs in the bridge.

Maluma, Octavio Cuadras, Grupo Marca Registrada — “Bling Bling”

Maluma enlisted Grupo Marca Registrada and Octavio Cuadras for another regional Mexican hit song in the making. This time, “Bling Bling” is about wanting an extravagant lifestyle with zero regrets.

Conan Gray — “Lonely Dancers”

Conan Gray is finding a connection on the dancefloor with his latest “Lonely Dancers,” which was produced by Max Martin. “Your lover left, broke up tonight / My lover’s busy, kissing other guys / We’re both alone now, tears in our eyes,” he sings over a synth beat.

Sia, Kylie Minogue — “Dance Alone”

Sia and Kylie Minogue want fans to break out their best moves, which is why they teamed up for “Dance Alone.” The duo first worked together over a decade ago for Minogue’s Kiss Me Once album, so it was only fair that this new track will be featured on Sia’s upcoming record, Reasonable Woman.

Lovetta — “Vuja De”

Lovetta is creatively flipping the script on a breakup with her new song, “Vuja De.” As her first song of the new year, she realizes the person she once knew is now feeling like a stranger.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Killer Mike Doesn’t Seem To Mind Getting Handcuffed At The Grammys: ‘All Of My Heroes Have Been In Handcuffs’

The 2024 Grammys turned out to be a big night for rap Killer Mike. In addition to winning all three awards for which he was nominated — to the dismay of Gen Z streamers who missed out on the greatness of “A.D.I.D.A.S.” in 2003 — he was unfortunately handcuffed and detained for several hours on a misdemeanor battery charge before being released to finally celebrate his wins.

Appearing on The View on Monday (February 12), Mike explained what happened that led to his arrest and how he felt about it. According to Mike, ““Backstage was overcrowded, the winners were exuberant, and I think security got a little overzealous.” This is what led to his confrontation with a security guard, who was knocked over in the confusion.

Comparing himself to some of his Civil Rights Movement inspirations, he said, “All of my heroes have been in handcuffs: Malcolm [X], Martin [Luther King Jr.], [Nelson] Mandela, Medgar [Evers, an activist who was the NAACP’s first field secretary in Mississippi and was assassinated by white supremacists for his liberation work]. I walked out with the same dignity and respect that I walked in with, and I would implore people to just take that from it.”

However, he did feel there was one “dope” aspect to the situation. “I walked out to my wife in the rain,” he said. “It was like a romance movie. It was dope.”

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame announced its class of 2024 nominees a few days ago, and included are Mariah Carey, Ozzy Osbourne, Cher, Sinéad O’Connor, Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Eric B & Rakim, Foreigner, Lenny Kravitz, Sade, A Tribe Called Quest, Peter Frampton, Jane’s Addiction, Kool & The Gang, and Oasis.

Oasis’ Liam Gallagher, though, doesn’t seem too thrilled: On February 12, he tweeted, “F*ck the Rock n Roll hall of fame its full of BUMBACLARTS LG x.”

He expanded on this in response to tweets from fans. One person wrote, “do you really not want oasis to win? like truly? i fully understand why you aren’t interested but we really really want this for you and noel, oasis deserves it like no other band,” and Gallagher responded, “I appreciate that you do but I honestly feel there’s something very fishy about those awards.” He wrote in a different tweet, “I don’t need some wank award by some geriatric in a cowboy hat.”

Another fan implored Oasis lovers to vote and Gallagher replied, “Don’t waste your time Rkid as much as it’s appreciated it’s all a load of bollox.” He also wrote in response to a different fan’s post about voting, “I appreciate it but it’s not what it’s about it’s a joke.”

Of course, he found an opportunity to diss Noel Gallagher. One fan asked if any of the band members would attend the induction ceremony if Oasis was voted in, and Gallagher said, “The little fella loves hanging out with celebrities so he’d prob go as for me I’m washing my hair and having a pedicure and a manicure.”
