Nicolas Cage Doesn’t Like Talking About Comic Book Movies Anymore: ‘C’mon, I’ve Grown Up’

Nicolas Cage did not seem to enjoy a question about his comic book collection. While promoting his new movie Arcadian at SXSW, Cage participated in a Q&A where he got a little testy when asked if he’d ever return to the realm of comic book films after previously starring in Ghost Rider and Kick-Ass.

“Would I return to the comic book genre? I guess never say never, right?” Cage said before venting his frustration with the topic. “But, you know, much has been made about that. My comic book collection just goes viral so quickly and exponentially and I feel like it’s in some ways eclipsed by what I’m really reading. You know, like The Overcoat or Herman Hesse. It’s like I’m still stuck in 12 years old with the NyQuil and the lemon cookies reading The Incredible Hulk #72. I mean, c’mon, I’ve grown up.”

You can watch Cage’s full response below:

However, despite his seeming annoyance at the question, Cage switched to a more diplomatic gear and admitted he could still pop up in a comic book movie down the road.

“That’s not who I am anymore, which isn’t to say I don’t appreciate it. I do,” Cage said in conclusion. “And I’ll probably still be open to playing something, but it’s not really on my mind.”

More recently, the actor had a very brief cameo in The Flash where his version of Superman was finally brought to life, but he has openly spoken out about the overly-CGI’d final product.

“When I went to the picture, it was me fighting a giant spider. I did not do that. That was not what I did,” Cage told Yahoo! back in November. “I literally went to shoot a scene for maybe an hour in the suit, looking at the destruction of a universe and trying to convey the feelings of loss and sadness and terror in my eyes. That’s all I did.”

Arcadian opens in theaters on April 12.

Yung Lean And Bladee Combine Their Sad Boy And Drain Gang Forces On Their First-Ever Collab Album, ‘Psykos’

yung lean bladee
Guz Reichwald

Yung Lean has teamed up with his longtime friend and frequent collaborator Bladee for Psykos — their first-ever full-length collaborative album.

On Psykos, the Swedish stars combine the elements of Lean‘s post-punk side project from his alter ego JonatanLeandoer12, with the emotional rawness of songs like “Agony” from Lean’s 2017 album, Stranger.

“Across the album, the two visionaries showcase their own masterful way of blending timeless melodies and poppy hooks with sound beds of ethereal physical instrumentation that feel like a disassociated symphony,” reads a statement accompanying the album release. “An honest and clear-headed album of longing and love lost, Psykos is two artists at the peak of their powers, full of self-assurance.”

While both Bladee and Lean have become household names — especially in Sweden — Lean takes inspiration from various parts of the world. He spoke more about his love of music worldwide back in a 2022 interview with Office.

Hip-hop is very regional, and it’s the same in Sweden. There are rappers from the south that have a special accent. There are rappers from the north, and the same in the States. For me, it was just music, it was way wider than that. Since I traveled around with my mom and dad when I was a kid before my sister was born, and then when I’m 16 — I’m everywhere, so I think I just had to figure out what’s coming from in here, instead of repping your own town, or trying to get the sound from your city, or whatever.

You can see the Psykos cover art and tracklist below.

Why Was YesJulz Fired And ‘Fined’ $7.7 Million By Kanye West’s Yeezy?

yesjulz
Getty Image

Late yesterday afternoon, Kanye West publicly cut ties with party promoter and influencer Julieanna Marie Goddard, better known as YesJulz, saying she owes over $7 million to the Yeezy group for violating a non-disclosure agreement. On his Instagram Story, Kanye reportedly wrote, “We have decided to no longer have YesJulz involved in the roll out of Vultures. All the activity on her page and with our fans in the past few days has been unauthorized.”

Several Yeezy fan accounts also posted screenshots of an email purported to be from Yeezy “chief of staff” Milo Yiannopolous to Goddard. “Dear Ms. Goddard, enclosed please find a letter and statement of account from your time with Yeezy,” it reads. “Fines incurred to date as a result of your NDA violations come to $7.7m. While you were a contractor, I suspended enforcement of this debt. It now falls due. Hassan from the compliance team will reach out with information about payment. Please not that any further violations will accrue more fine. Because you are being terminated for cause but also because you forgot to sign your contract your termination is effective immediately.”

Uproxx generally doesn’t engage in schadenfreude as a rule, and we won’t do so now. But this is so messy. None of this is how a professional organization should behave and even writing this give me, as the kids would say, “the ick.” One of my very first pieces for this site was a critique of Julz for her weird cultural voyeurism and not only was she never held to account for it, the grasping, clout chasing, social climbing she did paid off in a job working for one of the biggest artists in hip-hop, who should have known better, but has been printing t-shirts that read “White Lives Matter” and putting white supremacists in charge of his hiring.

Oh, did I forget to mention Yiannopolous is a virulent, right-wing troll who has been ripped by multiple outlets for pushing hate speech? Yeah. Kanye hired him last year to replace another racist outrage peddler, Nick Fuentes, as his “campaign manager” — after previously firing him in 2022. You gotta give the sourpuss credit, though; usually, when white folks do the “my best friend is Black” thing, their Black best friend isn’t the guy who made “Jesus Walks.”

There is no real “win” here for anyone. It’s sad that Kanye has become this, it’s sad that people are still dealing with Kanye after everything he’s done to destroy his reputation, it’s sad people in hip-hop are still working with YesJulz in 2024, it’s sad that nobody at Yeezy has any concept of professionalism (and that they think this supposed “NDA” is remotely enforceable), and it’s sad that we haven’t agreed as a society to completely ostracize creeps like Yiannopoulos and Fuentes because they only pick on people who’ve historically been oppressed all along. I’m hitting “publish” and taking a very long, very hot shower. Yuck.

‘Silo’ Season 2: Everything To Know So Far Including The Release Date, Trailer, And More

Silo
Apple TV+

The Dune: Part 2 tour has finished, and now, it’s time to think about another Rebecca Ferguson project, and I’m not talking about her revelation of a mystery film in which a co-star screamed at her. Surely, she’s not having to deal with that nonsense in our current topic of discussion, Apple TV+’s Silo.

As viewers likely know, the TV show adapts Hugh Howey’s most popular book series — Wool, Shift, and Dust — and the first season fairly closely adhered to the original book’s subject matter. Sure, we received more of a love life for Juliette, and for some reason, Common’s character, Sims, managed to find a godforsaken (and pristine) leather jacket after humanity has presumably been living underground for centuries. Still, the show has been overall faithful to the architecture and spirit of Howey’s trilogy thus far, and Ferguson’s Juliette might be the only member of Silo 18 who heads into the outside world and survives, which was more than suggested in the first season finale.

A second season has been shooting in London. Let’s get serious about what could happen next on the Apple TV+ series.

Plot

As viewers recall, Juliette was exiled from Silo 18 in the final moments of the season finale. Her visor revealed to her that the projected image was fabricated, which suggests more revelations for the future. However, the real game changer with her exit was that she survived the hike up the hill and then disappeared from view. Nobody in Silo 18 is aware of whether she survives beyond this point, at least, not yet. Certainly, Bernard freaks out because she’s about to discover a bunch of silos over the hill. And she does.

Those who have read Hugh Howey’s Wool omnibus know what will likely happen next, although the TV show has made notable changes during adaptation, so nothing can be entirely predicted. Still, Ferguson dropped a hint while promoting Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One late last year on a break from shooting the Apple TV+ sci-fi series. As she revealed to Variety, “It gets incredibly intense… wet.” That’s a clue, alright.

Here’s where we’re dropping a mild SPOILER ALERT about the books….

In the source material, Juliette’s mechanical prowess leads her to explore how to solve flooding in another structure, Silo 17, that she discovers. The mammoth building is abandoned, mostly, although “Solo” surfaces and provides as much assistance to possible as she attempts to make this other silo semi-operational again. We’ve already seen Ferguson battling through an intense water scene in the engine compartments of Silo 18, and that episode turned out to be the best of the first season. So, that does bode well on the adrenaline factor for Season 2, despite, Juliette and Solo spending a hefty amount of time in solitude. As well, the Shift book introduces a whole other ensemble of off-site characters with flashbacks into the past, so there’s no shortage of material to draw from, including the third novel, Dust.

Cast

The only real certainty here is that Rebecca Ferguson will be on the scene as Juliette again. At some point, we’ll see Tim Robbins’ controlling, self-appointed mayor again as well as Common’s Leather Jacket again. However, much of the next season will focus on new characters in Silo 1 (including Donald and Anna) as well as Juliette meeting up with Solo (oh, and that will be a possible awards role) in Silo 17. Casting on those roles, in addition to the rest of the impending introductions, remains under wraps.

Release Date

As of now, Apple TV+ hasn’t revealed a window for the second season, but 2025 is a safe bet.

Trailer

C’mon, we want more, but no footage has surfaced yet. However, here is the gregarious Rebecca Ferguson gamely describing to Variety how damp things get for her in the next round of episodes.

Isiah Thomas Told Draymond Green He Thought Kevin Durant ‘Saved The Warriors Basketball Legacy’

Kevin Durant choosing to sign with the Golden State Warriors in free agency in the summer of 2016 was a moment that sparked endless arguments about ring chasing, Durant’s personal legacy, and the Warriors’ place among the all-time great teams in NBA history.

Few outside the Bay area think of that move fondly, as evidenced by the replies to pretty much any social media post by KD where someone inevitably responds that he ruined basketball by joining the Warriors. Isiah Thomas is not one of those people, however, as he has a different perspective from the outside looking in on what Durant did for the Warriors. The Hall of Famer joined The Draymond Green Show this week and offered up a “bold statement” in which he explained to Green why he felt Durant “saved the Warriors basketball legacy.”

As Thomas explained, the Warriors had a chance to simply be known as the team that went 73-9 and blew a 3-1 lead in the Finals. That is now only considered their legacy by those in the greater Cleveland area thanks to Durant coming in and helping lift them to two more titles.

Had the Warriors never gotten back over the hump to win another ring that loss to the Cavs would undoubtedly be what they were remembered for. At the same time, they were still an extremely good team and did win one in 2022 without Durant, so it stands to reason that they could very well have righted that wrong of 2016 on their own (which, for many was the frustration with them signing KD in the first place).

They never gave themselves that chance though, and Thomas is right that Durant played a considerable role in salvaging a dynasty-type run for those two years (and then almost a third before injuries derailed them in the Finals). I’m sure the Warriors don’t particularly like this theory from Thomas that Durant “saved” them, but that’s the trade-off to signing another MVP caliber player coming off of the way they lost the 2016 Finals.

Will Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ Album Have A ‘Jolene’ Cover?

beyonce
Getty Image

Beyoncé obsessives have been frantically searching for any information they can find on the star’s new album Cowboy Carter. From fan theories about the title to demands for country radio to put her single “Texas Hold ‘Em” into rotation, the BeyHive has gone into overdrive to support the queen in recent weeks. All that searching has led many of them to a tracklist that appears to have come from her website which seems to confirm that Beyoncé really did cover Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” for the album.

Unfortunately for those fans, that tracklist is a phony. For reference, you can check it out below, and compare it to Beyoncé’s actual website:

So, does this mean Beyoncé’s album won’t have a “Jolene” cover as rumored? Well, it’s hard to say. According to Dolly herself, Beyoncé apparently did record a cover of her biggest hit, and if such a cover were to be released anywhere, Beyoncé’s upcoming country album would be as good a place as any. However, Dolly also acknowledged a reality of the recording industry: not every song recorded makes the album. Just look at Prince’s expansive vault of unreleased tracks.

Besides, Beyoncé’s whole thing with this current run of albums is reclaiming the history of Black influence on country music. Not to demean the illustrious Ms. Parton but well… she’s not exactly a Dahomey warrior, y’know? Anyway, we’ll find out at some point whether the rumor is true or not. Cowboy Carter is due on March 29 via Parkwood and Columbia.

‘Venom 3’ Is Coming Out Sooner Than Expected And Has A Swinging New Title

venom-carnage-hardy-caro.jpg
Sony

The new and potentially final Venom movie just got bumped up. Now titled, Venom: The Last Dance, the trilogy capper starring and directed by Tom Hardy will arrive in theaters on October 25 instead of its previously announced release date on November 8.

The release date change is a bit of surprising news given production on the third Venom film was halted during the dual actors’ and writers’ strike. However, like Deadpool & Wolverine, it was one of the first projects to immediately jump back in front of the cameras once the SAG-AFTRA strike was resolved. According to Variety, Venom: The Last Dance resumed filming in November, mere weeks after the strike ended.

As for plot details, your guess is as good as ours. The routine Marvel secrecy is in place, but there have been uncorroborated reports that the final film would explore the multiverse and build off of Hardy’s mid-credits scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Although, that rumor started all the way back in late 2021, and comic book films can change right up until their release date.

Venom: The Last Dance will also be under intense scrutiny from Sony thanks to the recent flop of Madame Web. That film’s failure has already led Sony to start canceling projects in its dubious universe of Spider-Man films that don’t actually feature Spider-Man. That said, Venom has been the strongest performer in that endeavor, so hopefully, the studio will let Tom Hardy cook.

Venom: The Last Dance swings into theaters on October 25.

Kevin Costner Responded To John Mulaney’s Oscars-Highlight Bit About ‘Field Of Dreams’

costner-mulaney.jpg
Universal Pictures/Getty Images

The highlight of the 2024 Oscars (other than Messi, of course) wasn’t Robert Downey Jr. winning Best Actor, or “I’m Just Ken,” or Oppenheimer‘s dominance. It was John Mulaney’s bit about ghosts playing baseball.

While presenting the award for Best Sound, the comedian said, “For years, movies didn’t have sound, and then they figured it out. Some people say that the silent era was the golden era of film. These people are difficult and insane.” Mulaney then went on a lengthy spiel about every dad’s favorite film, Field of Dreams, involving corn, hot dogs being stuck in throats, and the scene where “Timothy Busfield pushes little Gabby Hoffman off the bleachers and she falls down and she’s unconscious.”

It’s very good. Even Kevin Costner, who starred in Field of Dreams, thinks so.

“Not a bad summary,” Costner’s band, Kevin Costner & Modern West, wrote on X, along with the cry-laughing emoji. It’s nice to see that Costner still has a sense of humor when he’s not feuding with Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan or starring in expensive and long Westerns. Maybe the two-time Oscar winner (Best Picture and Best Director for Dances with Wolves) has enough juice to get Mulaney to host next year’s ceremony? It’s overdue.
