Airbnb host has world riveted over stolen painting that was replaced inside her own home

It should go without saying that it’s not cool to steal from your Airbnb. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t still happen.

However, when one Airbnb host recently discovered a guest had—for some strange reason—stolen one of her paintings, then replaced it with a completely different painting, she decided to make the best out of a very uncool situation by sharing the story on TikTok.

As a result, viewers got to witness an continuously unraveling, truly bizarre modern-day art heist.

Okay, let’s get into it.

“OK the weirdest thing just happened,” host Amy Corbett says at the beginning of her video.

She then shows what the living room in the listing normally looks like—with a painting of a map hanging on a wall over a couch.

But when Corbett shows up to the unit, we see that it is definitely not a painting of a map hanging on a wall over a couch. Instead, there’s a painting of an orange airplane.

“I have never seen the picture before in my life!” Corbett exclaims in the video.

@allbelongco The weirdest thing a guest has ever done. #airbnb #airbnbstory #airbnbguest #airbnbthief #crazystory #story #fyp ♬ original sound – allbelong.co

Creeped out, she looks around the apartment to see if the oil painting is anywhere to be found. Nada. Zilch.

Needless to say, commenters had their theories. Several mentioned hearing similar stories involving the same painting, leading them to believe this was all part of some long and involved paint-swapping prank. Others went the more traditional route of assuming this guest was trying to cover up some damage inflicted to avoid fees. Others still thought this person was an artist trying to do some sort of clandestine self-promotion.

In a follow-up video, Corbett debunked those theories, saying that not only could that airplane image be found “all over the web,” but the wall it was hanging on was “pristine,” not to mention the fact that the original artwork was next to impossible to accidentally damage.

@allbelongco Replying to @exploration_of_love Let’s debunk some theories while we wait to hear from Airbnb… #airbnb #airbnbguest #fyp ♬ original sound – allbelong.co

As for whether or not this person had swapped out other paintings, Corbett has reached out to one of the guest’s previous hosts, who confirmed that it had not taken place there.

Corbett kept audiences in the loop with several follow-ups, including actual security footage of the guest caught in the act.

The video shows a man (now dubbed the Airbnb Bandit) walking from his car carrying the airplane painting. Next, he’s seen in a different-colored hoodie carrying out the map painting, which is bundled up in a blanket.

@allbelongco Camera footage doesn’t lie…🤷🏻‍♀️ #airbnbstory #airbnbguest #fyp #airbnb #airbnbthief #allbelongco #story ♬ original sound – allbelong.co

As if things couldn’t get any stranger, when Corbett sent an official claim through Airbnb about the artwork, the Airbnb Bandit did pay, but only a portion of what was asked. Then when she asked when he could pay the rest of it…he asked for a 5-star review.

Wow. Just…wow.

While the actual identity of this unusual art thief remains a mystery, Corbett is being reimbursed by Airbnb. Plus, she has decidedly made her “negative story into a positive one” by hiring a local artist to create a new painting to hang above her couch, one that features a waterfall view and the Jamestown River visible just outside the listing. Plus, she’s raffling off the airplane painting to raise funds for affordable housing in her area.

This might be one of the weirder Airbnb stories out there, but at least it has a pretty happy ending.

Mom has the perfect response to teen son who refuses to do ‘girl’ chores

A 41-year-old mom with 3 boys, 12-year-old twins, and a 10-year-old, pays them $10 daily to do their chores. However, their pay is deducted $10 if they miss a day. The boys have to do their tasks 5 days a week, although it doesn’t matter which days they choose to work.

“This system has worked swimmingly for us since it started, the boys have always complied with completing their chores,” the mom wrote on Reddit.

Her 12-year-old son was getting ready to play Fortnite with a friend and told him he’d be ready in 15 minutes once he finished his chores. When the boys started playing the game, he told the friend he was in charge of dusting and sweeping the stairs, to which the friend responded, “It’s a good thing my parents don’t make me do girl chores.”

After learning what the friend said, the mom told her son that chores are genderless.

“I spoke with my son and explained to him that knowing how to clean was not specific to any gender, that it was a life skill everyone needed to know. I also told him that I understood that other families functioned differently; however, in our family, everyone did an equal share,” she wrote.

Over the next 3 days, the boy refused to do his “girl” chores. So, when allowance day came, the two brothers who did theirs received $50, but the 12-year-old who refused only got $20. The mom and the boy’s father are divorced, so the 12-year-old called his dad to complain that he got $30 less, and the dad took his side.

“My ex-husband then proceeded to call me and tell me that I’m in the wrong for only giving him $20 and to imagine how it makes him feel that his brothers got more than he did. I explained to him that our other sons actually did their chores for all 5 days, so they were rewarded accordingly,” the mother wrote. “And assured him that if he had decided to start giving the boys an allowance, then he can run allowance however he wanted, but this was ultimately the system I had come up with.”

She added that her husband said she is being “insensitive” and “humiliating” their son.

The mom asked Reddit’s AITA subforum if she was in the wrong, and the commenters unanimously agreed that she was right. Other commenters noted that she made a smart decision leaving her ex-husband because he took the side of his child, who refused to do work for sexist reasons.

The only problem the commenters had was that the mom was being a little too generous by giving them $50 a week. That’s $600 a month for 3 kids.

“It’s the real world, you don’t do your job, you don’t get paid, and I actually think $10 a day is pretty generous for allowance,” Longjumping-Gur-6581 wrote. “$10/day is insane for that age,” fIumpf added.

“You’re not taking money out of your son’s allowance, you’re not paying him for services not rendered,” Excitedorca wrote. “The sexist, misogynistic reasons behind not completing the chores need to be corrected and that won’t happen by rewarding it.”

One Of The ‘Harry Potter’ Professors Doesn’t Get Why Adults Are Still Into The Movies: ‘They Should Be Over That By Now’

sprout
WB

The Harry Potter movies started hitting theaters a quarter century ago. The books are even older. They’re meant for kids; those who were the same age as Daniel Radcliffe and gang at the time got to age along with them. The actors have all moved on; Radcliffe has no interest in going back to Hogwarts. But for many who watched them as kids got hooked. They may be adults and yet they’re still obsessed with movies and books they watched and read as kids. To one of the adult actors from the series, that’s kind of weird.

Per HuffPost, Miriam Margolyes, who played Professor Stout starting with Chamber of Secrets, had a recent chat with New Zealand’s 1News, during which she reflected on those who are still Harry Potter stans into adulthood.

“I worry about Harry Potter fans, because they should be over that by now,” Margolyes said. “You know, I mean, it was 25 years ago, and it’s for children. I think it’s for children. But they get stuck in it.”

She added, “People say, ‘We’re having a Harry Potter-themed wedding.’ And I think, gosh, what’s their first night of fun going to be? I can’t even think about.”

Margolyes made sure she wasn’t slamming the series. “No, ‘Harry Potter’ is wonderful. I’m very grateful to it,” she said. But she added, “It’s over.”

As it happens, a whole new generation of kids can get hooked on the series, thanks to the reboot being done over at (HBO) Max.

Is Drake Dating Latto’s Sister Brooklyn Nikole?

When Drake crowned himself a “certified lover boy,” it wasn’t a reach. The “One Dance” rapper has been romantically linked to dozens of women across the industry. From Rihanna to SZA, Drake’s Canadian charm seems to pull in entertainment’s biggest names. Although he’s currently traveling the world with J. Cole for the It’s All A Blur Tour — Big As The What? Drake isn’t going to let his love life take a backseat.

According to fanfare online, Drake might’ve found his next romantic muse in Uproxx cover star Latto’s sister. Continue below for more information.

Is Drake Dating Latto’s Sister Brooklyn Nikole?

Yesterday (March 8), footage began to circulate online of Drake making a grand exit from a quiet dinner. Usually, the footage would not cause a huge stir. However, upon closer examination, fans pointed out that one of the guests exiting the restaurant with Drake was, in fact, Latto’s younger sister, Brooklyn Nikole. Although the clip doesn’t show the two showing any public displays of affection, users believe the two are, in fact, dating.

Fans’ first piece of supporting evidence is none other than Drake’s latest verse on OVO Records’ latest signee 4Batz’s song “Act II: Date @ 8 (Remix).” In the track, Drake raps, “How you get all of that body and face, though?/What kinda water they servin’ in ClayCo,” which listeners claim refers to Brooklyn Nikole’s stomping grounds.

The pair also follow each other on Instagram, and fans pointed out Drake often hearts Brooklyn’s uploads.

Users online had a mixed response to the claims, calling out the age difference between the two.

“Brooklyn is only 22 years old, and Drake is 37. When will he date someone his age???? I don’t see why he talks about marriage, but he keeps going after young girls,” wrote one user.

While others stick to the previously denied rumors that Latto and 21 Savage are a secret couple, therefore, her sister dating Drake is the perfect fit.

The public initially thought Drake started to date Camila Cabello after the pair were spotted on vacation. However, Cabello offered a work-related explanation for those images. But what about Drake’s last rumored girlfriend, Lilah Pi? Reports say the two called it quits late last year.

Bad Bunny Is Reportedly Suing A Fan For Sharing Footage Of His ‘Most Wanted Tour’ To YouTube

Bad Bunny has had enough of his naughty fans. As the “Baticano” rapper travels the globe for his Most Wanted Tour, he’s pulling out all his showman tricks (including taking to the stage on horseback). However, nothing stays a secret long, with concertgoers armed with smartphones ready to capture every moment.

While he’s okay with shared aspects of his concerts, such as the setlist, Bad Bunny wants everything else under wraps for ticketholders to enjoy. According to TMZ, Bad Bunny is willing to ride his beliefs all the way to the courthouse. On March 8, the outlet revealed that Bad Bunny has reportedly sued one fan for posting footage of his Most Wanted Tour on YouTube.

In the documents, defendant Eric Guillermo Madronal Garrone is accused of sharing entire song performance clips on his channel, MADforliveMUSIC (which has over 30,000+ subscribers). Bad Bunny’s legal team alleges that after Garrone attended the show on February 21 in Salt Lake City, Utah, several full-length videos were posted onto the channel, which, in their eyes, could discourage viewers from purchasing tickets to the show.

Referring to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), Bad Bunny’s team contacted YouTube to have the videos takedown using their standard strike-down system, where users alert the platform of copyright infringement. Bad Bunny’s team alleges Garrone filed a counterclaim, stating his right to the footage as the capturer. Although that could be right, ultimately, the intellectual property rights remain with the artist in these cases. This is often disclosed in the fine print on many ticketing system servers.

However, Garrone’s counterclaims were allegedly successful as the video reappeared on his account. As of today (March 9), only one clip can publicly be viewed. Sources say the videos reappearing on the channel after the DMCA claims were the catalyst for the lawsuit.

Eric Guillermo Madronal Garrone has not issued a public statement regarding the matter.

Woman goes up to strangers on the street and asks how much money they make in their jobs

Asking someone how much money they make is taboo, at least in American culture. Unless someone’s salary is posted publicly, most of us don’t even know how much our own coworkers or bosses make, much less complete strangers.

Google isn’t a whole lot of help on this front, as compensation in specific jobs can vary wildly depending on the market, someone’s education level, years of experience and other factors. So if we’re curious about how much someone around us makes in their job, we’re often just left to wonder and guess. We’re not going to ask out of common courtesy, and most people aren’t likely to volunteer the information unprompted because that’s also seen as uncouth.

None of that awkwardness around money questions has stopped Hannah Williams, creator of Salary Transparent Street, though. The company’s popular social media videos have garnered millions of views and likes with a simple premise: asking people on the street what they do for a living and how much they make.

And interestingly enough, people seem perfectly happy to share.

Some jobs, such as software engineer, have expectedly high wages, though even those varied quite a bit (which could be based on location, but apparently not based on experience, according to this video):

But other high paying jobs may not be as well known. For instance, a certified anesthesiology assistant shared that she makes over $200,000 a year.

Williams interviewed people in trades jobs, and that was quite eye-opening. (Did you know tattoo artists and hairdressers can make well over six figures? Perhaps they are outliers, but even if they are, holy moly.)

Again, these are specific people’s situations, and people in the same job can make a wide range of wages, but one thing Salary Transparent Street does is help people know what’s possible with real-life examples.

How about something like a teacher? There’s a wide range there, too. But considering the above, it’s mostly not amazing. Watch:

Springer Spaniel accidentally exposes where the husband’s been when wife takes him for a walk

Jinky, the Springer Spaniel, has his own social media page, where his doggie parents document his beautiful life in Yorkshire, England. As the photos suggest, he loves playing in the mud. Springers are active, love the great outdoors, and are known for having a lot of energy.

Recently, Jinky’s mom took him on a walk during a loose-leash training session when he took an unexpected turn that revealed where his doggie daddy had secretly been taking him. Loose-leash training is a method trainers use to teach dogs to walk on a leash with some slack without pulling or going after other dogs.

Here’s the big reveal that got daddy in the dog house.

After Jinky turned to walk into the village pub as if he had done it a million times before, the wife thought it was hilarious and asked her husband to let her know she was on to him. “It was really funny,” she told Newsweek. “I sent the clip straight to him.”

The clip was quite a hit on Instagram, where it has been seen over 4 million times and has over 200,000 likes. Many of the commenters suspected that there were many great friends and treats inside the pub, and that’s why Jinky wanted to go back. Others thought the wife should have let Jinky into the pub for a pint or two.

“Let the lad have a pint,” Jack Messerli joked in the comments. “My friend’s dog does this, drags me to all the pubs, even if they’re closed,” Milo added.

Inspiring update on man who was recognized by sentencing judge as a childhood friend

There isn’t a single person past the age of infancy who has never made a mistake, and the majority of people do something that they’re not proud of at least once in their lives. While some mistakes are bigger than others, they’re all moments we’d rather keep to ourselves most of the time. For some people those mistakes are poor decisions or lapses in judgment that land them behind bars.

One man found himself facing a judge for sentencing after making poor choices. Arthur Booth had the entire internet weeping after a video of him went viral when the sentencing judge in court recognized him as one of her childhood friends. When Booth recognized the judge, he began to openly sob with embarrassment. He was ultimately sentenced to 10 months in prison and ordered to a drug rehabilitation center.

People wondered what happened after that fateful day in court, and a couple of years later a short update came, showing him reuniting with the judge after finishing his sentence and rehab. But that was years ago, where is he now?

Turns out, Booth is doing quite well. Rebel HQ uploaded a video showing what the once struggling man was up to, and the update couldn’t be any sweeter. On the day the judge reunited with her former classmate outside of the courtroom, she reminded him, “You’ve got to take care of your family, try to get a job, stay clean. You’re going to do something good for somebody else, that’s what you’ve got to do.”

Booth took her words to heart, making good on his promise and exceeding the expectation to succeed. The once embattled man has stayed away from the things that had cost him his freedom–drugs and gambling. In fact, he travels the country as a manager of a successful pharmaceutical company based in Florida, according to Rebel HQ. The man owns his own home and continues to keep in contact with the childhood friend and judge who gave him the words he needed to hear at the right time.

Beyoncé’s Hair Care Brand Cécred Has Been Accused Of Stealing Its Packaging Designs

If you ever wanted luscious locks like “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer Beyoncé, your chance is here. With the launch of her hair care brand, Cécred, consumers are promised to have tresses fit for the main stage. As buyers’ reviews begin to pour in about the products, there seems growing online chatter about something other than the luxury items.

Shortly after the company launched on February 20, beauty brand consultant Fiona Glen took to LinkedIn to call out Cécred’s packaging. Glen accused the company of stealing its designs from the New Zealand-based skincare brand TWYG (which launched in June 2023).

“There’s a good chance that the packaging similarity is a coincidence,” she wrote. “However, it’s proof that it’s harder than ever to launch a truly different product, and IP is increasingly difficult to defend.”

In screenshots captured by HipHopDX (a fellow subsidiary of Warner Music Group), Amanda Gaskin, the designer reportedly responsible for the looks, echoed Glen’s take and expressed her disappointment in their similarities.

“It’s hard to believe that Beyoncé’s brand and packaging team hadn’t stumbled across our work,” she wrote. “Especially considering the recognition TWYG received last year. To say I’m gutted would be an understatement, but thank you for acknowledging the similarity and validating my feelings on this.”

Neither Beyoncé nor Cécred has issued a public statement regarding the claims.

Warner Bros. Discovery Still Seems Hell-Bent On Making ‘Barbie 2,’ Even Though Nether Its Star Nor Director Are Into It

Barbie Margot Robbie
Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. Discovery ran into a bit of a problem after Barbie made a billion-and-a-half dollars: Neither its star nor its director/co-writer want to make Barbie 2. The corporation still has a Mattel cinematic universe in the offing, but will that capture the magic that was one half of “Barbenheimer”? Possibly not. But despite the unwillingness of the people who made Barbie to do a sequel, Warners isn’t giving up on their dream just yet.

Per Deadline, WBD chief Pam Abdy said she’d still “love” to make Barbie 2, a movie she said “ignited audiences around the world.” Heck, they’re still “always talking” about making it. With whom, exactly? She didn’t say. Are Warners execs constantly calling up Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig (and maybe her cowriter/husband Noah Baumbach), begging them over texts to come back to the well instead of moving on to other projects?

Barbie didn’t just make the most amount of money for any movie in 2023. A movie based on a line of long-controversial dolls, which have been criticized for decades for promoting unrealistic beauty images for women, racked up a whopping eight Oscar nominations, even if none of them were for Best Director or Best Actress. Maybe that’s okay, though, because Gerwig and Robbie are still up for other trophies this Sunday.

(Via Deadline)
