Millie Bobby Brown stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday to promote her epic new fantasy film Damsel. Unfortunately for Netflix, everyone’s attention immediately gravitated to one thing and one thing only: Brown’s accent.
While talking to Fallon, fans couldn’t help but notice that Brown’s English accent was either completely missing or dropping in and out. Social media began filling up with comments asking what the heck happened to her voice, and British users were particularly distressed to hear Brown seemingly assimilate into an American accent.
Her accent is such a mix of British and American she like tunes in and out of both
Her accent is going in and out
She sounds so American now
However, Brown had some defenders in the comments, who noted that her accent change is not uncommon.
“I know most people don’t realize this, but oftentimes actors who are using a different language for a film, forget how to speak their natural accent. Gary Oldman is a perfect example. He had to go to language therapy to get it back. She is also currently filming, so the American accent is naturally coming out.”
As for what Brown is filming, just a little show called Stranger Things 5.
“For everyone saying that she doesn’t have her British accent anymore, bear in mind that she is currently filming ST5 so she has been using her American accent more recently.”
Empress Of’s forthcoming studio album, For Your Consideration, is mere weeks ago. So far, fans of the bi-lingual singer have gotten three tastings of the project by way of singles “Kiss Me” featuring Rina Sawayama, “Femenine,” and “What’s Love” by featuring Uproxx cover star Muna.
Today (March 1), Empress Of found herself in a giving mood, offering up another record to the public. Her latest song, “Preciosa,” produced by Nick León, is her most sensual track to date. One language couldn’t encapsulate her feelings, so Empress Of shifts between English and Spanish to get her love letter out.
In the opening verse, Empress Of sings (roughly translated to English), “Got me worked up, if you touch me like that / I’m in your cup, you’ve been thirsty for me / Go carefully if we leave from here / I want to be precious, I want to be your thing / Like a summer in LA without heat / I wear the skirt very short, Dior / Tell me to come, and I’ll be at your door / I want to be precious, I want to be your thing.”
On Instagram, Empress Of promised that there would be more recordings like this to come. “Two years in the making of some of the most beautiful music I have ever made,” she captioned the announcement for “Preciosa.”
Listen to “Preciosa” above.
For Your Consideration is out 3/22 via Major Arcana. Find more information here.
Winter will draw to a close in March, but there’s still no time like now to cozy up with a blanket in front of the TV. After you’re done with the cynically and sincerely romantic shows of February, it’s time to finally see more of Amazon’s domination of the comic book genre. Seriously, who would have thought that Marvel and DC would both stumble while The Boys and Invincible (the latter of which returns this month) continue soaring into the stratosphere? Well, the makers of Compound V aren’t surprised.
Additionally, Kate Winslet is collaborating with HBO, and as a team, they haven’t missed yet. Netflix has rescued another beloved series, the Game of Thrones guys are preparing to release their newest project, and an actor who frequently gets spooky will take a more subtle turn as Abe Lincoln. Here are the must-see shows for March.
BMF: Season 3 (Starz series streaming 3/1)
If you’re unsure of where to start with 50 Cent’s ever-expanding TV empire, we have you covered here. At the moment, however, it’s time to revisit Meech and Terry in the early 1990s. The pair is still working on achieving that illusive American Dream halfway across the country from each other, and you can look forward to most of the ensemble cast staying intact, although Snoop Dogg will also appear as a pastor. C’mon, you cannot resist that lure.
The Regime: Season 1 (HBO series streaming on Max 3/3)
Kate Winslet and HBO hope to make their streak last following Mildred Pierce and Mare of Easttown. Sadly, there will probably not be any canned cheese on this series about a messy authoritarian ruler (of an unspecified European country) who goes even more off the rails under the influence of a new and unlikely confidant, Herbert Zubak (Matthias Schoenaerts), who might send her dying regime into extinction even sooner than it was bound to happen. Co-stars include Martha Plimpton, Hugh Grant, and ice-bath zooming.
Girls5eva (Peacock to Netflix series streaming 3/14)
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt fans, if you didn’t check out this series while it was on Peacock for two seasons, be sure to hit up all three seasons on Netflix, which picked up the series in time for the show’s late ’90s girl group to go on tour. Surely, all will go smoothly despite the ladies having no tour manager or dates or venues or anything but a van and their own enthusiasm to relive their glory days. Netflix’s synopsis wonders, “Or will the road destroy them?” If that’s the case, then it sure will be fun to watch.
3 Body Problem (Netflix series streaming 3/21)
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss hopped on over to Netflix following their run as Game of Thrones creators and showrunners, and hopefully, the audience will grant them a clean slate after, you know, that final season. However, it is 2024, and the pair has moved onto their sci-fi era to adapt Liu Cixin’s bestselling novel trilogy. The show spans time and continents and space and sanity while bending genres and overall following what happens when Earth discovers aliens. The title refers to three stars orbiting each other, and expect things to get existential.
The Gentlemen (Netflix series streaming 3/7)
Remember that Guy Ritchie movie with Matthew McConaughey starring as a weed kingpin? Well, this is Guy Ritchie’s continuation (yes, he really likes the “gentleman” names) starring Theo James, hot off his semi-sociopathic run on The White Lotus. James’ character, Eddie, is lucratively connected to that same weed empire. Don’t expect this show to be a sequel or a remake of the film, but instead, a story that rolls forth from the same world.
Invincible: Season 2 Part 2 (Amazon series streaming 3/14)
Robert Kirkman’s other most popular comic returns to the scene of the Viltrumite empire takeover after Mark received a hint from Omni-Man on where to find the means to stop the madness. Since he cannot hide under the cloaks of anonymity any longer, Mark/Invincible must get crafty, and of course, Debbie is still attempting to sort out the reality of only being Nolan’s “pet,” while he has already create a life on Thraxa with a new family. Those are only a few of the loose ends left dangling during the mid-season hiatus, but never fear because there’s much more of this series while Amazon’s other superhero-skewering franchise, The Boys, is between installments.
Manhunt: Season 1 (Apple TV+ series streaming 3/15)
Hamish Linklater might be the most underappreciated actor on TV these days, especially following his ungodly turn in Mike Flanagan and Netflix’s Midnight Mass. He stars as Abraham Lincoln in an adaptation of James L. Swanson’ non-fiction book, which is adapted into a true crime thriller about the infamous assassination of Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth. The story follows the aftermath of that devastating deed, and Anthony Boyle (Masters of the Air) portrays the fugitive murderer. The limited series also co-stars Tobias Menzies, Patton Oswalt, Lovie Simone, Will Harrison, Brandon Flynn, Damian O’Hare, and Matt Walsh.
[Trailer will appear here when available through official channels.]
A Gentleman in Moscow: Season 1 (Showtime series streaming on Paramount+ 3/29)
Ewan McGregor leads an ensemble cast while starring as a Russian aristocrat, Count Alexander Rostov, in this adaptation of Amor Towles’ same-named novel. Rostov finds himself sequestered in a hotel in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution, which has deemed him an outlaw. However, he is not immediately executed but, instead, imprisoned within the attic of a luxurious hotel. If Rostov leaves, then he will pay the price with his life.
Parish: Season 1 (AMC series streaming on AMC+ 3/31)
If you enjoyed Giancarlo Esposito’s dirty deeds in the Breaking Bad franchise, then you will want to bookmark this series, in which he portrays Gray Perish, a criminal-turned-family man who returns to his old habits after suffering a horrific tragedy. Soon enough, he’s right back in the (driver’s) saddle again, and as the trailer reveals, things get more than bloody.
A few months ago, it seemed like Machine Gun Kelly (real name Colson Baker) was toying with the idea of changing his performing name. Now, he has gone ahead and done it.
As E! News notes, as of February 29, the artist’s profiles on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and YouTube all now say “mgk,” stylized in lower-case letters, and not “Machine Gun Kelly.” His social media handles on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram are still @machinegunkelly at the moment, but his X name has been changed to “mgk,” while his Instagram name is currently “colson xx blonde don.”
Kelly hasn’t publicly explained the reason behind the name change. As aforementioned, though, the seed seems to have been planted a few months ago. In November 2023, MGK gave an interview at an F1 race and asked photographers to refer to him as just “Machine,” saying, “Instead of Machine Gun, can you just hit me with Machine next time?”
This follows comedians Chad & JT attending one of MGK’s concerts wielding a sign asking the performer to change his name, a stunt that caught MGK’s attention. The pair then explained (jokingly) that they felt his name encouraged machine guns.
At this point, though, we don’t know much about the reason behind MGK’s name change. That said, it’s a natural shift, since “MGK” was already a widely used nickname for him.
You can watch that — and Jean Smart in her fashion icon era — in the season three teaser above.
The logline for season three reads: “A year after parting, Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) is riding high off the success of her standup special while Ava (Hannah Einbinder) pursues new opportunities back in Los Angeles.” But don’t worry, there will still be plenty of scenes with the two of them together.
“We try to bring them together in a way that deepens their relationship,” co-creator Lucia Aniello told Vanity Fair. “It’s a truce, you could say. They’ve made up in a way that becomes another yarn in the tapestry of their relationship.” Fellow creator Paul W. Downs (who also plays Jimmy) added, “We’re trying to keep the audience surprised and also give them the thing that they like about the show, which is that back-and-forth between these two women.”
Hacks returns with two episodes on May 2 on Max, followed by two more episodes every week until the season finale on May 30.
The Night Agent had all the ingredients for a Netflix hit. An everyday-sort-of-government agent was doing the most boring FBI job, only to be thrust into adrenaline-tinged, shadowy intrigue that built to a cliffhanger season finale. Attractive spies also do usually turn heads, and leading man Gabriel Basso fit that bill alongside foremost lady Luciane Buchanan. Additionally, the show also landed in the “dad TV” realm that helped to ensure that the show squeezed into the Netflix all-time charts before 2023’s end, and for that reason, Netflix departed from its recent hesitation to grant early renewals.
Yep, The Night Agent proved to be an exception in this newfound age of cautious streaming networks. After only two weeks of audience binging, Netflix made that announcement, and since that time, the show has been in the thick of production when Hollywood wasn’t striking. Despite those works stoppages, filming is humming right along with the streamer providing sneak peeks, and since this show is character driven and not terribly effects heavy, turnaround should prove to be speedier than many streaming series. Here’s what we can expect for a second season.
Plot
Netflix is not messing around when it comes to fast-and-furious production of this show. The streamer and Gabriel Basso took to Instagram to signal the start of the sixth episode’s filming for this season. If they’re moving strictly in chronological order, that’s a promising detail. Additionally, Basso is shown taking flight in a helicopter above towering skyscrapers in a video clip.
Basso also posted some behind-the-scenes looks at Peter in action.
The series began as an adaptation of Matthew Quirk’s bestselling, same-named book, but since Quirk didn’t follow up on the story, the Netflix show is moving past its source material after Peter Sutherland has formally moved on from basement guy to the Night Action Program. As a result, the show will move past its original (mostly) D.C. confines into New York City, where Peter will begin to learn the ropes of truly being part of the off-the-books subagency of the FBI, rather than simply being the phone dude.
Additionally, Deadline reported that the show would partially film in Thailand. At least that suggests some fun (?) admit the new job duties after Peter and Rose found themselves with a host of obstacles, including White House Chief of Staff Farr (Hong Chau) and U.S. Vice President Redfield (Christopher Shyer). Peter had halted an intricate terrorist/assassination scheme and received his new job title by the end of the first season, but do not expect this to be an easy transition for him. Gabriel Basso hinted to Collider that Peter will find himself in an entirely new mission with unfamiliar circumstances throwing up challenges for a second round of episodes:
“[H]is MO would almost shift completely because he’d now be a Night Agent. I’d have to talk to Shawn [Ryan] about what that mission would be. I’m sure it all depends on the context of where you’d see him next, but I’m sure his training would shift from, “I’m an FBI agent,” to killing people. Whatever he’s being asked to do, I’m sure the emphasis would shift and the goal would shift, significantly. He’d probably feel a little out of his depth again.
Netflix is being fairly secretive about what Peter’s second-season mission shall be, but Farr still lurks as a threat, and Rose will be a key part of the second season. Buchanan told Netflix that she hopes her character receives both a renewed focus and therapy (after losing family members and the aftermath) and also refocuses upon her tech dreams:
For her part, Buchanan believed Rose would love to pursue her tech goals again. “I really hope that she continues on her journey,” said Buchanan. “[The ending] leaves it really open-ended… I also want closure for her. I’m like, ‘This girl needs a lot of therapy after everything she’s been through.’”
Cast
Basso and Buchanan will return as Peter and Rose, respectively, and we might see more of Eve Harlow, Phoenix Raei, Enrique Murciano, D. B. Woodside, Hong Chau, Fola Evans-Akingbola, and Sarah Desjardins.
Since the show will head into different venues, expect to see plenty of new faces, too. That includes Brittany Snow as Peter’s new partner in Night Action; Louis Hertham as Jacob Monroe, the ever-powerful boss of Salmon, a fixer portrayed by Power Book II: Ghost‘s Berto Colon. Additionally, Teddy Sears portrays a Night Action investigation subject, Warren, and Arienne Mandi has been cast as Noor, a U.N. aid with top-secret access that comes in handy for more than it should do.
Release Date
2024 will happen, according to Netflix. They are fast-tracking this series to capitalize upon overnight enthusiasm, so between this and Keri Russell’s The Diplomat, more intrigue will be coming this year. That’s not too shabby after several months of actors and crews being on strike.
Trailer
The Night Agent received a very quick blip as part of Netflix’s recently released 2024 sizzle reel.
Relationships can end for a number of reasons. Maybe the two daters don’t agree about the future. Maybe a red flag has emerged and the other person can’t handle it. Or maybe you have a dream about Christian Bale. The latter point applies to one of Billie Eilish’s break-ups, she revealed.
In a chat with Chicken Shop Date host Amelia Dimoldenberg (alongside Finneas) for the Oscars, the conversation found its way to superheroes and their attractiveness, with Eilish saying she doesn’t “really know much about” them. This led to Eilish’s The Dark Knight-related story: “A couple years ago, I had a dream about Christian Bale, and it was in a little cafe in the sunlight, and it made me realize I had to break up with my boyfriend at the time. No, like, genuinely. I woke up and I was like [gasps] and I came to my senses.
Remember when people were mad about the lack of Zendaya in Dune and director Denis Villeneuve was like “just wait for the second movie”? Well, there was a lot more Zendaya in Dune: Part Two; she’s arguably the second lead, after Timothée Chalamet. But does Chani make it out of the sequel alive?
Spoiler alert, but: yes, Chani doesn’t die. But at the end of the film, she’s mighty pissed at Paul. With good reason. Power (and spice) has gone to Paul’s head. He declares himself the Lisan al-Gaib, kickstarts a holy war, threatens to nuke the spice supplies on Arrakis, and takes Princess Irulan (played by Florence Pugh) as his bride, catching everyone, especially Chani, off guard. The last we see of her, she’s riding a sandworm off into in the desert.
“It is by far one of the most challenging scenes I have designed in my life,” Villeneuve told Uproxx about the sandworm sequences. “I mean, first of all, to create the technique of the Fremen? That was not really described in the book. I had to come up with a strategy. How to approach a beast like that. How do you approach a sandworm without being crushed by it? How do you jump on a sandworm? What was the Fremen approach to master the beast? And how will we see Paul? Having some intuitive skills, but still being a bit clumsy because this is the first time? How to see the power, and create something edgy.”
Karol G got on a plane yesterday (February 29) and the flight turned into a scary situation via a mid-air emergency.
As ABC7 Los Angeles reports, Karol’s private jet took off from the Burbank airport last night with 16 people on board. The airplane was heading east, but when it reached Cajon Pass, it turned around after the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit. Fortunately, the plane was able to make a safe emergency landing in Van Nuys at around 9 p.m. PT, and everybody appeared to be OK. A video from ABC7 shows Karol exiting the plane, shaking the pilot’s hand, and giving people hugs, seemingly out of relief.
Karol has yet to publicly say anything about the incident. She has a Mañana Será Bonito tour date in Guatemala scheduled for tonight, and it’s not yet clear if the emergency situation will have an effect on the show’s schedule.

KAROL G’s JET MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING IN VAN NUYS AFTER PILOT REPORTS ISSUE
~On Thursday night, the private jet of international superstar Karol G was forced to make an emergency landing in Van Nuys following the pilot’s report of smoke detected in the cockpit…
Meanwhile, Karol was recently revealed as one of the featured artists on Shakira’s upcoming album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, which also features Cardi B, Rauw Alejandro, Bizarrap, Ozuna, Grupo Frontera, and other recognizable names.
Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
So, if you haven’t seen Dune: Part Two, this is a piece you probably don’t want to read about Dune: Messiah, which, as Denis Villeneuve told us, well, it might be awhile until we see the third movie in his trilogy. But that didn’t stop Villeneuve from casting a future version of Paul Atreides’s unborn sister, Alia Atreides.
And, as Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides’s sister, Villeneuve has cast Anya Taylor-Joy, who Paul sees in a vision. And what’s most interesting about that scene? Villeneuve says it’s the last thing he shot for Dune: Part Two … AND it’s, as he says, one of the most beautiful days of his life making a movie. Considering all the movies Villeneuve has made? Well, this does seem like high praise.
“I showed that with a very small unit,” says Villeneuve. He continues, “People that signed with their blood, that will keep the secret. I absolutely adore her, and she went on board with a big smile. And it was a very playful shoot, one of the most beautiful shooting days of my life.”
I counter with that’s high praise, especially with all the beautiful scenes Villeneuve has filmed. He, surprisingly, kind of agreed with me, “I know. it was because the gods of cinema were with us.” Villeneuve continues, “I wanted something specific. A specific kind of light. A specific kind of cloud. And everything was there. It was like my dream! I’m looking forward … I hope I will have the chance to work with her again. She’s an actress I absolutely adore.
Obviously, Villeneuve saying, “I’m looking forward,” then stopping is he doesn’t want to get ahead of himself before a third Dune movie is approved. But, I think we can all agree we’d love to see a third movie where Villeneuve and Anya Taylor-Joy get to explore this relationship further. If that was the most beautiful shooting day of Villeneuve’s career, well, I personally can’t wait to see what a third movie has in store for all of us.
